Comments:I have a friend at Freedom Ranch and I am oh so grateful for that! Doug Jones, you ROCK! I am praying for you every chance I get!
I thought the next time I would see Doug would be to identify the body; "Mr. Lavell, do you recognize this strung-out dope feind?". That was what I expected. I was so overjoyed to hear my friend's voice on the phone telling me he had found recovery. We have been friends since I was 15. We did EVERYTHING together. Shared dope, girlfriends, hell! we even shared moms! The only person I have known longer than Doug is my brother, and Doug and I are closer than that! However, when I got into recovery I had to leave him behind and just hope and pray for the best. Now I know there is a God and it's not me. Thank you God. Thank you AA. Thank you Doug for the best gift ever! Your brother forever,
Terry

Comments:I wrote this poem for my boyfriend Sean Winder who received his one year token tonight at the Freedom Ranch, I read it to him before I gave him his token, and this is how it goes

It brought us together, yet nearly tore us apart
We loved each other, but it was breaking our heart
We’d have lots of fun doing drink after drink
But then it got to a point where we were on the brink
We’d go from loving, teasing, and laughter
To pushing and hitting not to long after
We’d say mean things that would cut to the bone
And regret it the next day while we sat all alone
Apologies came from left and right
Just to drink some more and have another fight

Then the freedom ranch called, they had a bed
You had to leave, not much more was said
Three months you were gone and you were changing
Thing were getting better our lives were rearranging
Learning to have fun without alcohol
Wow! Last time we did that I could not recall
And look now, you’ve past year number one
And the battles that were, no more have been done
We still have our tiffs from time to time
But at least now there’s no scars left behind

Your head is now clear; your heart is now strong
We fall in love more, the more we move a long
Thanks to the Freedom Ranch for all that they’ve done
Our hearts beat together not as two but as one

Thought up and written by

I love you and I am very proud of you

I thank you all at the Freedom Ranch for all that you have done for Sean, I can definitely say that if it wasn't for all of you, then there would not be a me and Sean, again thank you

I am the owner of Sober Living in Lakeside. After years of trying to figure out how I could help this opportunity has come my way. I lost two brothers to alcoholism and those were the hardest things ever to process. My brother went through the program downtown on Island Avenue. He took his life after 23 days of sobriety. I did not know how to help him when he was so depressed. If you need a place to stay we keep our rates as low as possible to run the house. The rooms are private or two per room. 619/448-5995. Comments:The first time I heard about this program was about 1 1/2 ago when my little brother had just came back to my parents home from living in an unhealthy/unstable/alcoholic/drug enviroment. He had lost a job, friends, family and most of all himself.
Having a father that has been sober for 18 years and an older brother who has been clean/sober for 8 years- I know that the program works only if you work it!!
We have been blessed like many families will continue to be a testimony that there is always room for faith and hope when everything might seem so blurry and unpleasant.
At this present time - now my little brother has continued to use/drink and now has lost another job and friends because of his drinking. I'm hoping he seeks help and decides that his life doesn't have to be lived this way-
of shame, guilt, embarrassement, disappoitment, scared and untreated. He is a wonderful guy- big heart with lots to offer and a tremendous spirit but right now I do believe that he can't see himself being able to socialize without any type of substance. Today, I decide to write in the Dreambook because I just finished speaking with our mother whom is very desperate, hurting, scared and feeling really hopeless of my brother's situation and I needed to come in and vent and confirm that I know there is a God that will be blessing us over and over again as he has throughout so many thunderstorms my family has gone through. I pray that I will be writting back to inform you all that my brother has taken the first step to his recovery. I've never visited or met any of the sponsers from Freedom Ranch besides speaking to Rick over the phone a couple times -but I feel as though in spirit I have a special connection with you all.
I pray that today will be the day and will try very hard to keep my faith that my little brother makes it out to Freedom Ranch. Thank you for allowing me write a few lines and sharing your time.
May God Bless you all and until the next time.

Comments:Today, Feb. 16, 2008, my son Jason M. is celebrating one year clean and sober! He and my husband, Jim D. (who is 13.5 years clean and sober) are both Freedom Ranch alumni. I think it's important for those who come to this page to know that this program has a profound affect on those who are seeking a new way of life.

Addiction/Alcoholism has been recognize as a family disease for many years. Today, I see the recovery from disease has become a family thing too! My own recovery started almost 16 years ago, I have a brother with 14 years, my husband with his 13.5 and now one of my sons with 1 year.

Miracles do happen!I want to thank all that have given their time and their hearts to the program at San Diego Freedom Ranch over the years. A special thanks to Frank, Rick, and George for their parts in my own family's story.

Comments:I was the resident "drunken tweeker" at a fleebag hotel in Escondido when my parole officer called me and said "John, we are gonna get you some help". So after a short stay at lulu Porters detox I was picked up by ranch staff and carted off to my new home. It was then that I surrendered to my situation. I didn't know much but I did Know that I did not wish to return to prison and the Freedom Ranch offered a way out.
Now over two years later I have a good life. I earn an honest living and have a comfortable place to live. I also have gone back to doing many of the things that make life enjoyable to me. Like surfing and playing music. I believe if your ready for a new life there is no better place to start it than the San Diego Freedom Ranch.

John Marshall - 619-756-1537

I am glad that you have made this decision to focus your life in a more positive direction. It's hard, I know, but it is the right step towards a more fruitful life. I am in good company with Bridey, Cozmo, and Petey, and BD is taking real good care of me. Don't worry about me, take care of you.

You are my favorite human, although BD is a pretty good one, too.

Quiet time "ALOT" up at the cross allowed me to get honest, The unselfish of Jim & paul & of course BigBook Rich. Fellow rancher brought through the steps out of the book. There's something very special & spiritual about the ranch that's can't be explained. Comments:DAMMIT I LOVE YOU GUYS......

"The best place to get sober by far, if it did for me, it can for you too!"

I loved my stay there, so education oriented, the 3 hours of classes ad day helped me know alot about myself alot better. I remember my "spiritual awakening" when the bird shit on me.....ahahaah I still laugh about that day.

That is just one of the many types of great experiences I had at the ranch. "Fore" Wanna go golfing??? The best 9 hole golf course in town is at the freedom ranch, dues are only having the "desire" to stay sober! How about that!

Because of the wonderful staff at the freedom ranch, I have now stayed sober for a total of 10 months without a drink or a drug in my system.

All i can say is these guys ROCK! A VERY educated staff, a great enviroment, and a real desire to stop drinking or doing drugs, you too can have what alot of us have, after going through the ranch, SOBRIETY!

Thank you very much Freedom Ranch!

Comments:Well...he finally made it! My son, J. M. made it to the Ranch yesterday! Thank you Jack and Richard (and of course Rick) for being there to help him transition into the beginning of a new way of life.

It was good to see Frank too (some of you never leave do you? LOL) who was there when my husband came through over 12 years ago. Today my husband is a successful business and home owner. When he showed up at the Ranch in Sept. '94 he was a broken man with nothing to offer but a big ego and low self esteem. Thanks to "resentment Wednesdays" he worked through those character defects. Miracles happen at the Ranch!

We'll be up to visit soon. Please pass our love and support on to our "boy" for us. We have looked forward to this time in his life for a lot of years! Being in recovery ourselves we know not to deny any addict or alcoholic their own pain. For it is the pain that eventually brings us to freedom when we get sick and tired of being sick in tired.

For families out there struggling with addicition in their own families, let this story give you hope. If J. M. can do it, anyone can! Anything is possible in GOD's time!

Comments:Love the new web site! I have a life greater than I ever imagined today. The Ranch graced me the opportunity to have the single greatest miracle of my life. The Obsession to drink and use was lifted. I was given the solution found in the first 164 pages of The Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. The solution was then read to me and carefully explained many times over. I accepted the answer to my problems and now live my life on a spiritual basis and practice the principles of A.A. to the best of my ability in all my affairs. I don't believe there is any way to repay the Ranch for my life. So I try to help as many suffering alcoholics and addicts as I can, I do this by sharing the solution that was given to me while at the ranch.
To Anyone who is unable to stop drinking or using, and stay stopped, and has the Willingness to go to any lengths to solve their problem. I feel the Freedom Ranch offers the ability to build a Foundation stronger than any other treament option I ever tried or have even known about. The strong alumnus support, and quality sobriety I have found in other alumni of the Freedom Ranch is a powerful testament to the 31 years of Success!
GOD BLESS The Freedom Ranch!

Comments:~*I know quite a few people who have been thru the Ranch. The quality of their sobriety, the sturdiness of their foundation, the brotherhood they hold onto (and honor), is amazing. I believe its all due to the fact that they go up there and they eat, sleep, Meetings, and most importantly...THEY READ THE BOOK AND THEY FIND A HIGHER POWER THAT THEY CAN DO BUSINESS WITH. But there is more to it. Anyone of us can find and have a Higher Power. Its been my experience that unless I talk to, listen, trust, want his Will, and have that blind faith, Faith that He Can & Will... I am screwed...meaning that when shit hits the fan...Im not gonna have that ability to draw on My Higher Power, because i dont know how, and its not something im used to doing...i havent been practicing my reliance. Reliance on things that r not human...is where its at for me. I think about the Ranch...and the Program that is Spoon Fed to the Inmates hehe. THE Program. Not yours, not Mine, but THEE Program...and I get really ummm, encouraged. Actually i get really excited and grateful. There are not a whole lot of programs out there like this...especially with such a strong emphasis on the 12steps and a HP. I truly believe that if a man wants to get Sober, and is WILLING to do the WORK~then this is the Place!!!

I currently have a Friend there right now. Hes my best friend, I care about him and his well being, his happiness, his everything. Its pretty fucked up too. I am sooo powerless. I have to go against everything i believe in...to do whats best for both. Its like anything that i do for him at this point...is detrimental to his sobriety. Any amount of comfort i give to this chronic relapser, will only prolongue the desperation we all need in a bottom. I now that the more desperate i got...the more ass-out i was with everyone i knew...the more Willing I became. Willing to go to any and all lengths to get and stay sober and change my life. It was essentail that i finnaly accepted that my ideas were gonna kill me. My head fuckin lies. My disease tells me that its gonna be different This Time..doncha know! Im totally rambling, venting, gettin my thoughts outta my head here...hope u dont mind..if u do, oh fuckin well, write about it or drink! So, what im sayin is...Im thinkin that if I care as much as i say i do....then ill let him go...so he can Get Sober, work some steps, get his footing, a clear head, and then if we r suppose to be friends again...then God will make sure it happens the way its suppose 2. This is the hardest thing tht ive had to do in some time, cuz it goes against everything that I think and feel. But one thing that has really helped me stay sober is remembering this: "IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT I THINK, OR HOW I FEEL...ITS WHAT I DO!" my thoughts and poor little feelings will take me out. This is real shit. So, here goes that blind faith thing...not that it will work out how i want it to...but that it will work out how its suppose to...and ill accept that. Ive got this Self-Centered fear thing going on...I FEAR THAT IM GONNA LOSE SOMETHING THAT I HAVE...OR NOT GET SOMETHING I WANT! Its soo true. Its soo hard to do the right thing when u dont wanna. So, basically unless i ask God for help, and have faith that he will help me do the right thing, then im screwed. Cuz obviously i dont have the power to do the "right and sober" thing all the time. Its just not my nature. Well im feelin a lil better...i dont normally write out my thoghts unless i have to...i guess i had to...and this is where i picked to do so...I pray to God...i do the stand up thing for myself, and the one I Care about. We shall See.*~

Comments:without the ranch, I would not be able to type this. The RANCH really saved my life and helped me to learn how to "live life on lifes terms". I was told for the 1st 30 days to "suit up,show up,sit down and shut up, get a book ,get a sponser, get busy, get god and get it on" Everything I need to know in the big book is underlined in white, read the first 164 pages, then read em again.
The ranch is A very special place for people who are looking to climb out of the world called addiction, for those that want it, being sober is a wonderful thing. My life has changed in so many ways. I can now walk with pride again. The staff at the ranch is a great bunch of guys, not as great as the dogs nor cats but still a great bunch of people. the food is good and ALWAYS more then enough. Visiting is wonderful for family. A place that will always be remembered in my family as giving my parents back their son, and giving back a father to my teenage girl. Besides all that i know that if I were to drink or use again, I would see george at the bottom of my glass telling me what a looser i am. Seeing that whould keep anyone sober. Pg 417 second paragraph down has said it all for me. Remember, if you dont like being sober after the ranch, misery is 100% refunded, say hi to her when you see her. Glenn, Mike,George,Richard, Frank and Harold ( Master and grasshopper in the chow hall)dawn till sunset Ray, and all the Guys in the program, along with the freedom ranch GOD BLESS YOU ALL,(CHESTER,SMOKEY,SNICKER,LADDIE,and BIGHEAD LIL BUDDY>

Comments:I would like to thank Mike and everybody up at the ranch for trying to help my husband Jesus, (and yes I did say husband, as of September 8, 2005). It was a much safer world for him up there at the ranch, than back out here in National City, where unfortunately, once again he got caught slippin' and now he is back in system, after being finally off parole for only two weeks also discharging his state number. And now unfortunately he's got a new one. He regrets everything he's done that's gotten him to where he is now, back in prison. And he hope's that once he is back home that he will be able to better follow the program he had learned while he was staying up at the ranch, and not have to miss out on seeing his baby boy grow up. But thanks to all you guys for being there when he wanted the help, and thanks for being there for me when he didn't. But I'll keep intouch to let you know whats going on with him. And you can contact Jesus by my e-mail at NcCAMELSwife@aol.com and I'll just copy and send it to him.

October 8 1990 is my anniversary date and I truly owe it all to the Freedom Ranch. I will never be able to pay back what this home gave me. It gave me back my life! J.T.
I would sure like to hear from my old pals. Miss you all!

Comments:My boyfriend has been talking about this place. He is an alumni. I wanted to see what it was all about. I'm a little worried because he recently said that he thinks that he needs to go back for a week. I am proud of him for knowing where to go for help but at the same time I feel helpless to the fact that I cannot be of any help. I've had my fair share of hospital stays, I've always come out the better, I know that he would too if he were to go back. I think what makes it more difficult for me is that I am strongly in love with him and I don't want anything bad to happen. Is it love that holds us strong or is it our will to love that keeps us sane?

There are things that I learned there that will stick with me forever and that I use on a daily basis. When I got to the Ranch, I was on the edge of death (not a figure of speech, I was physically "shot out", and emotionally and spiritually bankrupt. Today I am continuing on my path of sobriety that the Ranch has started me on, and once again I am eternally grateful.

Comments:I honestly hope that Jesus can finally get the help he needs to kick his drug habits so that he will be around to help raise our soon to arrive baby. Because he doesn't realize how much he will be missing out on, if he choose's to continue down the road he was going on before he arrived at the ranch in late Sept. 2004. He needs to not only do this for his child but he especially needs to do this for his self, and let his star shine brightly like it should have been doing long ago....So, Jesus don't give up, I know you can do this....I've always told you that.....and I will always have your back.

Comments:The Freedom Ranch is a miracle! So many other rehabs and programs out there, but the ranch is the best. The ranch gives you 120 days to heal physically and mentally, but most importantly - - spiritually. For 120 days there is little to nothing to be concerned about except personal recovery. Through the experience of long recovering alcoholics, the tools, and program are presented so that any alcoholic/addict could hardly miss that there is A WAY OUT. It all revolves around WILLINGNESS. Those willing to invest in themselves to the ranch are sure to experience the miracle. That Miracle is best described as FREEDOM!
