I thought you might be interested in this video I found during a Google search...not sure if this is fan produced or something pro, but it looks like a teaser for G3D, hopefully it will stay up for a bit:

Comments:Hi. I enjoyed your detailed breakdown of the various episodes of the Godzilla animated series. I have seen several web sites with great details (not as much as here, though) on this series. I am a huge Godzilla fan and was wondering if you had these on tape or if you knew someone who had these on tape. I would LOVE to purchase a copy of the episodes so I can enjoy them as well. Let me know if you can help me with this. I greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Comments:Hey Chris. Love the site. I was looking through your glossary-particularly those of "daidako" (Giant Octupus)and "daikondura" (Giant Condor). Other sites refer to them as Ooodako and Ookandru, respectivly. But who is accurate?

[Most likely, both..."daidako" is a literal translation of "giant octopus" and "daikondura" a more or less literal translation of "giant condor." I'm far from fluent in the Japanese language, but I would guess that the other terms are close etymological equivalents]

And why is the giant sea louse called Shockilas instead of "Giant Sea Louse"? Just curious.

["Shockilas" is the official name that Toho gave to these parasites.]

Thanks for clearing things up.

[No problem, M.K.C...thank you for visiting The Godzilla Saga :-) --CN]

Comments:Before I begin, I should probably mention that I love your site. It has to be the most informative and comprehensive Godzilla-based site I've ever come across - and I've seen quite a few, believe you me. ;)

[Hey, Andrew...thank you for your compliments, and I'm glad you enjoyed the site!]

I just have a couple questions, if I may. First of all, I've noticed there are occasional inconsistencies in some of the reviews of the films, mostly where they're covered in the timelines. Nothing really big, but enough for me to wonder if it was done deliberately - perhaps as meant to convey what actually happened, as opposed to how the press related it? Or maybe the other way around? Either way, it doesn't detract from my enjoying the site, I'm just curious.

[Those inconsistancies are indeed deliberate...it was my purpose in the timelines to depict, in a Tohoverse context, how these events "actually" occurred, as opposed to the press releases in those alternate universes, which I posit are responsible for some of the inconsistancies between the Japanese and American versions of the films.]

Secondly: Is it Saligna, or Saladia, that the Martian escapees founded? I ask because you've used both, and I had always thought it was Saligna, myself. I could be wrong, though. (Saladia also makes me think of Saradia (sp?) from Godzilla vs. Biollante, somewhat, but that's likely just me.)

[You were correct...it's Saligna. Some of the sources confuse Saligna and Saladia, and as a result, so did I when I compiled the entries! I have since corrected it, and I thank you for bringing it to my attention.]

And would I be terribly incorrect to theorize that the moon destroyed in Gorath - which I seem to recall reading somewhere was a captured Saturnian satellite - might have been the home of the Simeons? They were also guessed to have been from such a moon, after all, and their attempts to invade Earth stopped right around the time Gorath would have been approaching, approx. Something to think about, no?

[It's definitely something to think about, and I believe your theory is likely to be highly accurate. Den Valdron has speculated that the Gorath incident was directly responsible for the Simeons' 'planetary' catastrophe, as it may be the "black hole" event they described in "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla" --CN]

Comments:Hi Chris. I love your site. Been here before and I've left messages and I'm glad that you responded to them. But after reading your review for "Destroy All Monsters" a question has been mulling around in my head: why did Varan have such a cameo in the movie if he wasn't in the script. I know Baragon had a bigger role but was trimmed back 'cause the suit wasn't ready. But why was Varan cut back? If you trimmed those two scenes he's in, nobody could tell he was even in the movie. Anyway I wanted your opinion on the matter. Keep up the good work.

[Hey, Matt...thank you for your regular visits to The Godzilla Saga, and for your compliments.
As for the situation with Varan in "Destroy All Monsters," it was basically the same as the situation with Baragon...the plans were to include him, but it was too late to complete work on the new suit. As a result, he got shorted even more than Baragon did...since no suit was constructed for Varan at all, the sfx crew decided to make do with the small dilapidated model used to depict the kaiju's flying scene in his original film. This is why the only two brief times we see him in the film, it's from a distance, and he's flying in both of those scenes.
This may also be why all mention of Varan's name was cut from the script --CN]

Comments:Welcome to my new guest book, people :-) I think the DreamBook format, which I have always used with all of my other web sites, has a better aesthetic appeal to it, and it's easier for me to navigate and manage. It also allows more space for entries than the Guest Gear version, and is fully HTML-friendly. It took me a week to set this thing up, but it's worth it in the end, IMO. I will incorporate all of the original guest book entries here. Thank you again to everyone who has visited and supported The Godzilla Saga over the past year :-) --CN

[A reminder to my visitors regarding the schmuck who made the charming, self-revelatory post you see above you... please keep in mind, people, that the IP address of everyone who posts here is captured by the HTML gear of this guest book, and that not only enables me to ban certain abusive people like the mentally disturbed idiot up above (yes, I believe that I know who this troll is, and I am now in the process of confirming it) but it also enables either the administration or law enforcement to track harrassing individuals to the computer they used to make said harrassing post, if need be...also keep in mind that using *public* or rented computers to make harrassing posts is against the law in all jurisdictions...

To all of my visitors who choose to leave their e-mail addresses on their guest book entries...if any of you ever receive harrassing e-mails from anyone who acquired your addy from this guest book, please inform the administration here ASAP, including sending a copy of the *entire* letter you were sent as an attachment (since it will include a copy of the person's IP address that can be matched to any that our guest gear or law enforcement databases may have on file in case legal measures need to be taken) and I will see to it that this person is legally dealt with, and it will be my abject pleasure to deal with any such fools in this manner...The Godzilla Saga administration does not want to see any legitimate visitor to this site, whether he/she agrees or disagrees with the content that he/she happens to read on it, who chooses to post an entry in the guest book to be subject to harrassment by any mentally defective idiot who happened to get their e-mail addy off of this site...also, please use discretion when revealing personal info about yourself on *any* guest book that you ever happen to make a post on, for this very same reason...this is why the GS admin. will never take it personally if someone does not want to share their e-mail addy or any other personal info here...

Yup, it's your new acquaintance from the MONSTAAH group...hehehe. I gotta tell you, I *LOVE* this site! It's given me lots of info about the big green guy. I most enjoy your effort to link all of the Tohonian films in the Showa timeline (I love timelines). Among my projects, I'm currently putting together a couple of very brief articles (based on your excellent Showa timeline) that I'd like to submit to you, to see if you'd like them for your guest section. The first article deals with the city count (think body count for this term to work), and the second article is about the 'Toho Space Program' as I call it. (Astronaut Glenn, from G vs Monster Zero, I believe is the Showa version of the historical John Glenn...) BTW, I love Den's work; it's thought provoking, and it works really well to come up with a 'comprehensive' explanation for the aliens, or Gabara, etc. I've even come to suspect that there are probably a few kaiju or daikaiju creatures we've never even seen...either underground or underwater--the mates or parents or offspring off those we do see. Just a bit of conjecture...

Anyway, I've rambled enough now and gotta get off to work! Have an excellent day!

[Hey, there, Gordon, and welcome to The Godzilla Saga! I'm glad that my articles, and those written by Den, were helpful to your own research...please do feel free to submit your own articles, as I'm sure they could find an important place in the Guest Section...it was nice to hear from you, and thank you for taking the time to post an entry here!
And to my knowledge, Gord, you're the first G-fan to ever use the term "Tohonian!" I think we now have a new adjective ;-)

very informative i have also loved godzilla since i was a kid. it's nice to know there are more people out there who can enjoy a very bad campy movie

[Hey, Rick...thank you for the compliments and sharing the matter of your long-time interest in the Big G with my visitors and I :-) Granted, some of Godzilla's 1970's movies could be regarded as "bad campy fun," but they definately had their charm to them. The same could be said for late '60's entries like "Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster," "Son Of Godzilla," and *especially* "Godzilla's Revenge." Nevertheless, many folks in North America sometimes forget that the early G-films were neither campy nor "bad," and "Godzilla, King of the Monsters" (the initial G-film) and "Godzilla vs. Mothra," for instance, were quite excellent. And many kaiju-fans and sci-fi fans in general have expressed the opinion that Toho's two early '60's King Ghidorah films ("Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster" and "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero") were superior sci-fi flicks in a general sense, with the first of the two often regarded as one of the best kaiju-films of all time, and the second of the two often considered a decent sci-fi flick in its own right which happened to feature three popular dai kaiju as guest stars, but who weren't really central to the storyline (the campy antics of Godzilla's jumping shay victory dance notwithstanding). The Heisei Era G-films varied in their quality, with their worst example being "Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla" (the coolness of Space Godzilla notwithstanding) and the best examples being "Godzilla and Mothra: Battle For The Earth" and "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla 2." The other films in that particular G-series, IMO, were somewhere in the "inbetween" area of quality. The Millennium Series was similary varied in its overall cinematic quality, with no particular stand-out in this area (IMO) save for the fan fave "GMK" (at this writing, I have yet to see "Godzilla: Final Wars," though the consensus among most Western G-fans who have seen it appear to be that, despite its ambition and wildness, it didn't truly turn out to be the good G-film and grand last hurrah for the Atomic Titan that everyone was hoping for). Once "Godzilla: Final Wars" is released in America (at this time, it sadly appears that it will not be lavished with a big screen release), I will put up a poll on The Godzilla Saga asking for my visitors to vote for the best G-film of the Millennium Series. J.D. Lees, publisher of G-FAN magazine (who, like yourself, is a native of Canada) felt that "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus" was the best G-film of the Millennium Series, and he didn't much care for "GMK"; previous polls on The Godzilla Saga suggest that many G-fans in the West felt that "GMK" was a superior G-film, bar none, and it's my guess that it will prove victorious in the forthcoming poll (let's see if I turn out to be wrong!)
Thanks again for visiting and taking the time to leave a message in the guest book, Rick --CN]

Hello again. I thought that it was my duty to inform the GODZILLA SAGA readership (especially those in the Metro NY area)that from August 27th to September 2 the Film Forum will be showing a whole bunch of Godzilla and other kaiju eiga films, some of which will be in Japanese with subtitles! Also, they will be shown as double features, in other words, two films for one admission price. Further details are to be found in the homepage link I have provided.

Hey, Chris!
Love ths poles. As ever you do a great job making the world of Godzilla something fun and exciting. I certainly can't wait for Godzilla vs. Megaguirus and GMK to come out on dvd. For now, though, I am happy to say that the Godzilla articles I had been working on are now finished. I'd like to e-mail them to you for a personal opinion. So e-mail me when you can. Keep up the great work!

[Thank you for the compliments, Matt, and it was no problem checking out your screenplay :) At this writing, I've seen no indication as to when "Godzilla vs. Megaguirus" or "GMK" will be coming out on DVD in America, but there are definate plans for "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla," the fourth Millennium Series film, to be released on DVD in America, before the summer of '04, and in fact, you can pre-order a copy from Amazon.com, and Video Daikaiju already has a sub-titled Japanese version available. And I will always endeavor to keep up the work on The Godzilla Saga, despite the time constraints I sometimes find myself working against...but the continued support of visitors like yourself will always make those efforts worthwhile. --CN]

With regard to Marc's comments, the mystery of Star Godzilla has already been answered by me. As to where the picture of "Star Godzilla" came from, the creators of Stomp Tokyo told me that it came from the John Cusack film "One Crazy Summer". A viewing of the film confirmed the claim. You are correct about the bug monster being from "Infra-Man", though. Just thought you'd like some more input.

DADA for now....

Thank you for creating such an interesting and informative site. However, I must comment on the you found on the Stomp Tokyo site regarding the review of the Star Godzilla film. The two of the photos which accompany the article, which supposedly are from Star Godzilla, are more than likely not. The picture of Godzilla bears a close resemblence to the Dr. Pepper Godzilla suit, a suit created for a series of Dr. Pepper ads in the 80s, which for me implies that it in fact IS the Dr. Pepper Godzilla suit from those commercials and was probably lifted from one of them. The picture of the giant orange insect at the bottom is from a film called Inframan, a monster martial arts film from the 70s which was released in the states on video from Goodtimes in 1994. The third picture in the middle, which I am guessing is some giant foot about to stomp a mansion, could be from any film since the dark quality of the picture limits the viewer from being able to tell clearly what the picture is of. Since none of the photos are likely from the fabled Star Godzilla, it is interesting to consider whether or not the "review" of the film is real or not. From my knowledge, Star Godzilla was never made.

[Thank you for your supportive words, Marc, and as you will see above, you're not the first visitor here who has realized the conundrum regarding the enigmatic "Star Godzilla" (the G-film that never was!)...Michael R. Cantone, a regular visitor here, also noticed the debacle regarding that movie, did some research, and solved the mystery of that faux film once and for all :-) --CN]

Comments:I've been on your site several times over. I really like reading your movie reviews, and I eagerly await the one for "GMK".

As far as the Showa and Heisei Timelines are concerned, I have my own little theory that ties them together (sort of). To make a long story short, it involves THREE Godzillas--the demonic Oni Godzilla from the first film; the bad-tempered Fire Godzilla from the next three films, then the Heisei series; and the heroic Godzilla-san, who first appeared in "Ghidrah, the Three-headed Monster" and last showed up in "Terror of Mechagodzilla". The basic storyline goes like this: Oni Godzilla (or Oni Gojira, as I like to call him) was a mythical creature awakened by atomic bomb tests. The other two Godzillas were dinosaurs mutated by those same tests. The demon showed up in Japan and, as we all know, was killed by the Oxygen Destroyer. Around the time he began terrorizing Odo Island, Fire Godzilla headed toward the island (I forget its name) where he was first seen about a year later, in "Godzilla Raids Again". Godzilla-san, who was the dinosaur that attacked the American soldiers in "Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah", ended up in the Bering Sea because of the Futurians, but managed to make it back to Lagos Island despite his injuries. After being mutated, he headed to an underwater area off the coast of Japan, where he remained asleep until Ghidorah arrived. The rest probably wouldn't fit here, so I'll stop now.

Anyway, I love your site! So, keep up the good work!

Matt Harvey

[Thank you very much for the words of support, Matt, and for visiting the site as often as you have :) I am now planning my review of "GMK," pending a bit more research, so you and the rest of my visitors will not be disappointed once it's completed and posted online :)
Your theories for uniting the elements of disparate Godzilla film series into a single timeline was extremely interesting, and the unification of seemingly irreconcilable film elements is a major part of the often painstaking work done by Wold Newton Universe researchers, several of whom I am honored to be aquainted with, and who have all provided me with much valuable inspiration (Win, Chuck, Matt, Dennis, Pete, Sam, Tom, Kurt, Loki, Chris B, Jay, Art, and anyone whom I may have missed...thanks, guys!). As I have noted often, there are certainly numerous different alternate realities featuring a version of Godzilla, including several timelines where the events of the Showa and Heisei Godzilla film series exist seperately, and others where analogues to events from both film series occur on the same timeline. The ever impressive Chuck Loridans, who heads the MONSTAAH web site (which I encourage all G-fans to check out!), has posited that in the Wold Newton Universe timeline, for example, most of the Showa Era G-films actually take place at some later point in the 21st century than the present time (2003, at this writing), to account for much of the advanced technology seen in those movies, such as maser weaponry and the likes of the advanced space station we saw in the American version of "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and the experimental extrasolar spacecraft used to travel to Planet X in the asteroid belt by Glenn and Fuji in "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero." I explained the presence of these seemingly anachronistic technological elements present in the latter half of the 20th century as being the result of the U.N. studying left-over remnants of advanced alien technology following the invasion of the Mysterians in 1957, as seen in the eponymously titled film, in my Showa Toho Universe Timeline, though in my forthcoming Wold Newton Universe Godzilla Timeline, where I detail Godzilla's history in that universe, I'm going to confer with Chuck to incorporate elements of his ideas about analogues of those Showa Series G-events occurring later in the 21st century of the WNU. Chuck has also opined that following Godzilla's 1954 excursion into Tokyo in the WNU, the Big G's next appearance in the latter timeline occurred in Marc Cerasini's 1998 novel "Godzilla Returns," which Chuck suggests is the WNU analogue of the Heisei Toho Universe events depicted in "Godzilla 1985." All interesting stuff, and it's terrific to see the outline you have made of yet another alternate universe featuring a version of Godzilla that incorporates elements from both the Showa and Heisei timelines.
Thank you for sharing your own brainstorming with me and the rest of this site's visitors, they were much appreciated, and be sure to keep in touch :-) --CN]

Hey, Chris. I've been here several times before and love your movie reviews. Your timelines are a nice addition, too. But I don't like the fact the Toho made a new series with COMPLETELY seperate films. Couldn't Junior from the Heisei Series be the Godzilla of the Millenium Series. Some friends and I like it better that way.
Which leads to a theory about Godzilla and his sons. We think there could have been TWO Godzilla's before the first film. Think about it: a male and a female escape extinction and have an egg. Then they go into hibernation, at which point the nuclear bombs go off and mutate the two reptiles. Then a storm of some kind washes the egg away and the female awakens to look for it. She dies and then the male awakens, which connects the first film to Godzilla Raids Again (for the Sowa Series), and Godzilla 1985 (for the Heisei Series). the egg could be Minya and Junior for their respected series as well. It's a good theory, and it ties in well for the first two series. What do you think?

p.s. We also feel that the female Rodan survived death, what do you think?

[Hey, Matt...it's good to see you here again, and I'm glad you liked the Showa Timeline...it was pretty @#%$! exhausting to put it together! The Heisei Timeline will be less so, but still a headache nevertheless (but well worth it in the end!). It's nice to see that my effort has been appreciated :)
You and your friends are not the only G-fans who were irked by Toho's decision to leave the fate of the new Godzilla at the end of "Godzilla vs. Destroyah" a mystery, and to begin an entirely new film series for the millennium. Nevertheless, Toho opted for the fresh start approach for a second time, with the usual degree of mixed results. They have their own way of doing things, it appears, and their business decisions certainly reflect this.
As for your theory regarding Minya, Baby Godzilla, and the possible connection between the Showa and Heisei Series on a single timeline...Toho considers them two entirely seperate realities, something that I concur with. Nevertheless, it's an extremely fun intellectual exercise to tweak the established, "official" line on how a particular fictional reality (or realities) are supposed to work, and fan speculation such as your own has contributed much to the growing lore of Godzilla and his fellow kaiju. Skip Peel, a great writer of much fan fiction for G-FAN magazine, has also made efforts to tie the Showa and Heisei series of both Godzilla and Gamera, along with various other kaiju from other film companies, into one cohesive timeline, often with very entertaining results! And as I said in my essay on the Wold Newton Universe/Godzilla connection that preceeds the section on the timelines, since there are innumerable alternate realities with a version of Godzilla living within it, there is room for pretty much every single Godzilla speculation out there for "existing" on one of these myriad timelines. Hence, your speculations can definately be canon on one of these alternate realities, and that may be an interesting thing to follow up on if you and your friends would ever like to indulge in the popular realm of fan fiction writing. I encourage you to do so, and would certainly like to see the results :)
As for the possible survival of Rodan's mate from his eponymous film debut...I do not see any reason why he would survive the immersion in the molten lava but not her, particularly when you consider that they had a comparable level of resistance to injury. What happened to her, however, and even where she came from in the first place, remains one of those kaiju mysteries awaiting some fan fiction scribe to resolve in a speculatory essay or story :)
Thank you once again for visiting, and for sharing all of your input and ideas! --CN]

Comments:I just finished reading your synopsis on the Showa Saga movie Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla, and I am burning to offer my theory on one bit. As you well know, there is a scene where Godzilla reverses his own magnetic polarity, turning himself into a magnet, in an attack on his mechanical doppelganger, and you said this was unable to be explained. I ask that you consider my point here. My opinion on the matter is that the injured Godzilla had absorbed this magnetic energy in his battle with the thunderstorm the previous night. You may notice that he flashed blue several times after being struck by lightning, and flashed that same way just before reversing his polarity. He may have stored the electrical energy inside himself, and thus only demonstrated this ability once. Love your site!!!!

[Hey, Ben...I'm glad you liked the site, and thank you for visiting :) As for your theory, it holds at least as well as any I could have thought of (and as you know, I didn't think of any!). It would be rather interesting if the screenwriter actually intended Godzilla's absorbtion of the electrical energy during the thunderstorm to account for his later inexplicable ability to transform himself into a living magnet during the climactic battle scene in "Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla." As such, I thank you for the insightful theory you shared with us here...it was quite welcome, considering how bemused I was myself regarding this mysterious, heretofore unseen power of the Kaiju King. It would appear that during Godzilla's silly heyday of the 70's, he appeared to have any uncanny ability added to his power roster whenever a certain situation called for it, much like Superman through the years --CN]

[Hi, Rojem...I'm not sure why G-films aren't aired in your native Phillipines, as I'm not in the least bit familiar with the TV networks over there. There are many places online where you can purchase G-films, however, and if you happen to own a VCR or DVD player, you may want to consider doing so. As for sending you a pic of Godzilla...all you have to do is check out the pic of the Big G baring his teeth at the top of my site's front page, and I also have a section of the site containing many Godzilla pics (though it's possible your particular browser may not let them display on your console). Additionally, Godzilla pics are rather common all over the Net, so you should have little difficulty finding them, especially if you use a really powerful search engine like Google (http://www.google.com).

Your site is the greatest! I'm a dedicated cartoonist, and the info you've given allows me to make quality Godzilla comics!!

[Glad to hear that my site has helpful to you, Kevin...thank you very much for visiting, and be sure to keep checking the glossary for the frequent updates, as I often add to and/or ammend previously written entries when new and better information becomes available. I've recently revamped the entries pertaining to the giant insects, arachnids, and crustaceans in the Godzilla Universes, as well as new information regarding the likely distant origins of the many ultra-large dinsosaurs found upon various islands in the Pacific Ocean in the Toho Universes and elsewhere (let's not forget Skull Island in the original "King Kong," Maple White Land of South America from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's classic novel THE LOST WORLD and its many movie versions, etc.). Most of that new info is derived from the extensive work done by the Wold Newton scholars and their many fine online sites of literary speculation, who postulated the scientists of the lost continent of Mu (a.k.a., Lemuria) as being responsible for the plethora of surviving plus-sized dinosaurs, apes, octopi, etc., that we see in so many interconnected alternate universes (and many of those ultra-dinosaurs remaining into the present on various South Pacific islands mutated into the even LARGER dai kaiju after exposure to atomic radiation in some of those alternate universes). Be sure to also check out my very extensive Godzilla Event Timeline, that will be appearing on the site SOON, as it will expand on many of the ideas seen in the updated glossary entries I mentioned above. And finally, good luck on your career in making Godzilla comics, it will be wonderful to see them online and/or in print in the future, and I'm honored that my site could be of assistance to you in that endeavor:)-- CN]

Hey. Great Godzilla page, and even when I disagree with some of what you say, I still can see why you think it. I sure hope they add Rodan in a future "Alternate Reality Series" film, and I look forward to your video game section. BTW, I recommend buying the US DVD of Godzilla 2000; it contains a commentary by the three men who 'Americanized' the film, and it's a fascinating look behind the scenes. It offers reasons as to why they trimmed some scenes and changed some of the music, etc. (According to them, "Godzilla is inside each one of us" was what the original line was in Japanese). Definitely worth the purchase.

[Thank you for visiting the site, and for the info regarding the American DVD release of Godzilla 2000, Thanos6 :) As for Shinoda's closing line, according to the English sub-titled edition of this film issued by Video Daikaiju, the line reads, "Godzilla is in ourselves, in everybody's mind." The altered line in the American version was very similar, of course, but it was Yuki's previous words that affected the logic of the former's line as perceived by the audience; Tri-Star altered Yuki's aforementioned line to imply that Godzilla battled and destroyed Orga to save the people of Tokyo (something he clearly DIDN'T do), which effectively rendered Shinoda's subsequent line in the American version non-sensical to those who heard it. Thus, it was Yuki's original line from the Japanese version that should have been left intact by Tri-Star. Of course, the reason various parties disagree, either in a minor or major fashion, over what a particular line from a foreign language should translate into is something that any bilingual person, translator, or linguistic expert will tell us: there is no such thing as a literal translation of words from one language into another. One of my former college professors, who had translated an entire book from Latin to English, once told my Latin class that in regards to the sub-titling or dubbing of foreign films, the best you are going to get is the GENERAL IDEA of what the people are talking about, rather than an EXACT translation (he also told me that sub-titling in general tends to do a better job with this than dubbing, on the average). Hence, he stated that the most precise way to understand the various spoken words of a particular language on film is to actually know the language yourself (sometimes not always possible, of course). As a result, translations via sub-titles and dubbing in various films vary in their degree of competancy as to how accurately the translated words seen or heard onscreen successfully convey what the people are saying in their native tongue. Many people adept at different languages have criticized certain sub-titled and dubbed films as ad-libbing frequently, or presenting words onscreen in the sub-titles that do not accurately reflect the idea or notions that the spoken words were intended to convey to the viewers. It took my college professor practically an entire year to accurately translate that book from Latin into English, and I remember clearly how he told the class, "When I see a sentence written in Latin, I know what the words mean...the problem lies in getting them from one language to another."

Hence, sub-titles and dubbing are a mixed bag, at any rate, as are any type of effort to translate one language into another, regardless of the given medium.

Also, I agree that Rodan would indeed be a welcome sight in a future G-film in the Millennium (i.e., "Alternate Reality") Series, and I would likewise enjoy seeing the likes of Anguirus, Gigan, Varan, and Spiega finally get the update treatment (luckily, we finally got to see a new version of Baragon, another fan favorite among the "second stringers" in the Toho kaiju roster). Further, I would also like to see Godzilla actually face off against Orochi, the eight-headed dragon of Japanese legends. Of course, like many G-fans, I would be near-ecstatic to FINALLY see a rematch between Godzilla and King Kong, a long-awaited event that Toho has unfortunately considered to be too cost ineffective due to the high asking price of Kong's current copyright holders, Turner Network. Of course, since "King Kong vs. Godzilla" still holds the record as the highest grossing G-film of all time, it would be a very good idea for Tri-Star to lend financial assistance to Toho in acquiring the rights to utilize Kong in such a cinematic rematch bout in a three-way deal with TNT, and to then release the finished product to American as well as Japanese theaters, since I believe that a King Kong/Godzilla rematch would be an excellent prospect for a hit on BOTH sides of the Pacific. Let's see if one of the exec's at Toho or Tri-Star happens upon this site, reads this guest book entry, and finds this suggestion to be commercially viable ;) --CN]

I've been here before, but I wanted to get a message accross. I love this sight and I can't wait for the new movie reviews. But I should let you know that Toho is making a new G-movie: Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (3). This new robot is made from the skeletal remains of the Godzilla that died in 1954. Godzilla looks like he does in 2000, but Mecha-G is sweet! The film will be released in a week and I hope we'll soon get to hear a review from it.

[Thank you for the info, Matthew...it was much appreciated, and the reviews for "Godzilla vs. Megaguiras" and "GMK" are now in progress, and a review for "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla" should likewise follow soon sometime in the early months of 2003 :) Thank you also for your generous compliments, and for visiting the site...it's nice to see that my meager contribution to the long history of Godzilla in cyberspace, beginning with such excellent sites as Barry's Temple of Godzilla, is of benefit to some of my fellow G-fans...thank you again. --CN]

Scott at the Stomp Tokyo website told me that the photos of Godzilla were from the John Cusack movie "One Crazy Summer" and the bug photo was from "Infra-Man" (with Infra-man removed). Also, if you look at the date of the review at the end it says: "4/01/98" and below it: "(Hint!)" . Don't be upset, I fell for it too.

DADA for now....

[Thank you once again for shedding more light on the ongoing mystery of the "G-film that never was," Michael! This shows exactly how important the contributions of the visitors are to this site...but let's hope that Scott is being truthful this time around, and doesn't actually have the world's only copy of 'Star Godzilla' hiding out in his personal video library! LOL! The applicable text in the section on the In between Years of Godzilla has been amended yet again to accommodate the new information you have provided here...thank you once again for your invaluable part in solving this mystery once and for all (for now, that is!).
And please stay tuned...reviews for the first two films in the third Alternate Reality G-series will be coming to this site very soon, with the review for the third film tentatively due sometime in the Fall of '02...and I can guarantee you that these three G-films actually exist! :-)

Re: Star Godzilla, I e-mailed Scott at the Stomp Tokyo website to ask how he got his hands on the film. Here is what he told me:

" Here's the info you need: Star Godzilla was an April Fools Joke. The ad in VARIETY was real, but the film was never made."

I think that answers a few queries.

[Thank you for providing me and all of my visitors with this information, Michael...it may indeed answer a few questions. However, if what Scott said was true, and if it's indeed true that Stomp Tokyo's entire review of Star Godzilla was an "April Fool's joke," then he would have to explain where he acquired the stills from that film which appeared on the site. I personally have no idea whether or not that film was ever actually made, or if Scott's comments, let alone the review, should be taken seriously, but I will indeed ammend the text in my section on The In-Between Years Of Godzilla to make it clear that this whole thing may indeed have been a hoax, and yet another indication that we fans should take at least some of the information we find on those review sites with a grain of salt (though I must admit that Ken Begg's fictitious 'review' of the Charlie Brown slasher cartoon that allegedly aired one Halloween evening at midnight during the 1970's was rather funny, though I strongly doubt that many people actually took it seriously)--CN]
