Comments:I'd have to agree with you. I'm hoping that the next 2 episodes will change my mind, but I'm a little dissapointed with the show. It was billed as "what would you say to your classmates at your reunion," and ended up generally as a sleezefest, and not in a good way. They essentially could have had any bunch of people there with the way they structured this show. Best moment so far: Ben catching the fish.

Comments:Ick, I consider myself lucky to have not hooked the producers with enough salivatory bits about lovelorn rivalries and angsty vendettas to get on this "show". It was juryrigged, truly. They were not interested in who '92 classmates were today nor how we had developed beyond our high school personas. They wanted to know more crass tidbits like who did you lust for (who do you still pine for)...you're single, right? you wouldn't mind getting frisky with the other finalists, right? Would nudity be OK with you? And so on. I got the full-blown gist at the finalist interview in LA. Nice producers, thanks for sparing some of us '92ers the embarassment and pulling upon sensationalists in other classes instead!

Comments:Ouch! This review is from the New York Post and is by "Adam Buckman."

January 4, 2003 -- IF "High School Reunion" were a high school yearbook, Nicole Redmond would be voted Most Pathetic.
Ten years after graduating from Oak Park and River Forest High School in the Chicago suburbs, she's still pining after a guy she practically stalked in high school.

On WB's new "reality" show (to apply the term loosely) premiering tomorrow night, Nicole and the guy, smooth operator Dan Barbato, are thrown together in a big, rambling, knockout of a house on a Maui beach with 15 other OPRF grads from the class of '92 for a reunion not at all like any you've attended.

The big difference between this reunion and yours? This one is two weeks in length, which turns this reunion into a combination of "Survivor," "The Real World" and "Temptation Island."

The absurd length of this get-together is just one way in which this reality show diverges from reality.

Another one is the way in which the various participants try to pair off. In the two episodes provided for preview, none of the reunionees seemed the least bit interested in catching up with what their classmates have been up to for the last 10 years.

They're a lot more interested in gossiping about who likes who - which is more like actual high school than a reunion of people who are allegedly 10 years more mature than they used to be.

This is especially true of poor Nicole, who has deluded herself into believing that she and this Barbato guy will be engaged by the time they leave Maui. When it becomes crystal clear that she and he are not on the same page vis-à-vis marriage (hell, they're not even in the same book), she's so crushed you would have thought someone had dropped a house on her head.

See what I mean by Most Pathetic?

And she's not the only one suffering from a bad case of acute arrested development. With few exceptions, all the participants are still more or less how they were in high school.

TV executives seem to believe there's a widespread yearning among the viewing public to revisit their high school years, a sentiment that spawned two shows on the subject last fall - "Do Over" on the WB and "That Was Then" on ABC.

Both shows were cancelled - which should have clued in someone at the WB that viewer interest in revisiting high school wasn't nearly as robust as some in the industry insisted it was.

"High School Reunion," which is scheduled to last just six episodes, could also benefit from a reality check. As the show stands now, you can't help but feel that the participants were coached to play roles which may or may not reflect their true selves.

Comments:"HIGH SCHOOL REUNION" ACES ITS FIRST TEST

NEW REALITY SHOW IS A HIT IN ITS DEBUT, SCORING THE BEST EVER PREMIERE RATINGS FOR THE WB IN ITS TIME PERIOD IN PERSONS 12-34, WOMEN 12-34, ADULTS 18-34, WOMEN 18-34 AND WITH 5.2 MILLION VIEWERS

"HIGH SCHOOL REUNION" BUILDS THROUGHOUT ITS HOUR IN ALL KEY DEMOS, INCLUDING PICKING UP A HALF-MILLION VIEWERS IN ITS SECOND HALF-HOUR

BURBANK, CA (January 7, 2003) - The WB's HIGH SCHOOL REUNION is the network's latest hit as it set time period records for a premiere in total viewers (5.2 million), persons 12-34 (2.9/8), women 12-34 (3.4/9), adults 18-34 (2.8/7), and women 18-34 (3.3/8).

The reality show that brings together classmates, who graduated Illinois' Oak Park and River Forest High School in 1992, for a lavish reunion in Maui, Hawaii also equaled the highest premiere performance in the time period among men 18-34 (2.2/6), adults 18-49 (2.4/5), women 18-49 (2.7/6), and men 18-49 (2.0/5).

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION also achieved the second highest delivery ever in the time period among persons 12-34 and men 18-49, and scored the third highest in total viewers, adults 18-34, men 18-34, and adults 18-49.

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION's strong rating performance was also the best in the time period so far this season across numerous demos. Additionally, the program built from half-hour to half-hour across all key demos.

In persons 12-34, HIGH SCHOOL REUNION grew from a 2.7/7 to a 3.1/8; in adults 18-34 from a 2.5/6 to a 3.0/8; in women 18-34, from a 3.0/8 to a 3.5/9; in men 18-34, from a 2.0/5 to a 2.5/6; in adults 18-49, from a 2.2/5 to a 2.5/6. Teens grew from a 3.0/9 to a 3.4/10. In persons 2+, HIGH SCHOOL REUNION gained a whopping half million viewers (4.9 million to 5.5 million).

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION defeated CBS in the hour in all 12-34 and 18-34 demos, tied NBC for #1 in female teens (3.9/12).

The show grabbed double and triple-digit gains over the equivalent Sunday's time period a year ago across all key demos, including a +89% jump in women 12-34, a +106% improvement in women 18-34, and a +108% leap in women 18-49.

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION will run in a twice-a-week pattern, with the same episode airing Sundays at 9 p.m. and again Thursdays at 8 p.m.. Starting this Thursday January 9, it will be joined on the schedule by The WB's other new reality show, THE SURREAL LIFE, having its one-hour premiere at 9:00 p.m. THE SURREAL LIFE will subsequently air on Thursdays at 9:30.

I will say, good job to them for keepin on the DL. I talked to quite a few of 'em at the reunion and even elsewhere, and I had no idea they were gonna be on till I saw the website. Comments:Hey everybody!!! Here's what I know about the whole '91 & '93 thing... The producers had a hard time getting enough people from our class so they had to go and get people from the surrounding classes. Not many of us '92ers wanted to be on TV I guess. That's the scoop. Happy watching!!

Comments:OK, here's my two cents worth:

1) This particular reality show is too predictable. Think about it: if you were sent to Maui for a two-week high school reunion, what do you think the show's producers would want to have happen? The silly "hall passes" are unnecessary and simply prove that the producers are encouraging the cast members to hook up, but it seems many of them came with a plan anyway.

2) In the opening five minutes of the show, when the host was explaining what the show is about, what the heck building was he in? That wasn't OPRF. In fact, I saw very few pictures of OPRF, if any, inside or outside.

3) About some of the Class of '91 and '93 members who are on the show: some of them probably wanted to hook up some of us from '92, so they've been given a chance as well.

4) Why does Nicole think she has to work so fast to try to get Dan B.? If they both still live in the Chicago area, what's the hurry? They can reunite and go out in Maui, then continue a relationship back in Chicago.

5) Isn't it ironic that none of the cast members were at our actual reunion at Harry Caray's? At least I don't believe they were. And the black guy who was shooting video - he wasn't from the show, was he? (It's probably a good thing the cast members weren't there, as they would have taken advantage of the two-hour open bar, too.)
