We have a one year old Vallhund "Vahalla's Galant" (Rudy James Rocket) and are extremely happy that he came into our home and family. He is growing to be a great family dog, companion on road trips, hiker extraordinaire, and a great watch dog. He plays an excellent game of baseball (fielding of course). The children place him at shortstop or field when short of players and he certainly does his job. He does like to boss the family (time to get up, time to go to sleep, etc.)and also likes to chase the squirrels and birds; we are "working on" reaching the appropriate levels for these activities. He lives life to its fullest - what an inspiration. Thanks again to our breeder, Diana Downing. |

Snappy, I'm so sorry to learn of your loss. I Had just lost my beautiful australian shepherd "Phred" this Jan. He was 14.5 yr. and is very much missed. After his death, I went to a shelter and picked up an aussie mix that was nearly emmaciated and needed to be spruced up. As it turns out my new pal has a neurological disorder and can only walk a short distance before his legs give out. Of course, I am committed to him but at the same time am considering another dog to be a companion to myself and him. He seems to have a little more zip when around other dogs. My interest has been sparked by the Swedish Vallhund, which I am in the process of learning about. I think your dogs are adorable. They probably behave better then our two dogs Rosie and Maggie. Rosie is going to be a problem. The other day we had someone in to measure our back yard so they could put up a new fence and when the man followed Mal into the house Rosie thought his arm looked like lunch. She grabbed hold of his arm but did not break the skin. We think she was protecting Mal but also it was the first time we had a visitor in the house since the dogs came to be with us. We are going to get them into obediance training quicker then we thought. It looks like you have a winner with Valentenio. To bad the AKC is dragging there feet on accepting the breed into there club. It sounds like the are not up to a little competion or it is a political thing. I will put your web page on my faviorites list. Will send you a longer e-mail on your web sight in a few days. I just viewed some of your photos. They're wonderful! My husband and I currently have two male neutered German Shepherds - litter mates, 6 years old. We hope to have them for a good while yet but know that large breeds don't have the life expectancy or smaller breeds. We LOVE this breed but because we are looking to retire within the next five years and would like to travel considerably in retirement we thought a smaller breed dog with the look, temperment and character of the Shepherd would be an acceptable substitute. Since the SV is also of the herding group I am assuming that they have many of the same characteristics of a Shepherd. I will check out the SV website to see what the standards are but would appreciate any information you could provide regarding this matter. Thank you. By the way, I live in PA. |

We have all safely relocated back to the United States. Halla has developed into a healthy, sturdy, and happy adult. She is still a strong-willed wench, but her brains and eagerness to please help make her a great family member. Though we have certainly learned it is wise to look for her when she is unaccountably not present...she has this thing about slippers and similar sized and textured objects. She is a great running companion, and pretty insistant about going along; even when it's raining and I don't plan on running! We decided we were not going to breed her, not having the expertise to do it right, and because we didn't want to risk her health. She was spayed two weeks ago and the only problem was getting her to take it easy for more than one day. It might be nice to get a pet-grade guy for her to buddy with (and probably boss around). | Comments: | Have enjoyed dropping in and looking at your web and the pictures of your dogs. I am just getting started in SV's and am very interested in getting a puppy. I have been interested in showing in conformation and then working in obedience and agility. Are you planning a litter anytime soon (or not so soon)? If I were to get my wishes I would ask for a show potential bpb-tailed female. Since I am so new to the breed I would appreciate any assistance you could give me in selecting a good prospect.

| Comments: | Would love some more insight into general health & average life-span of vallhunds. Had anrescue corgi that didn't even make eleven--vet said they are not long--lived. How about vallhunds? (two of our mutts got past 18, one past 15, & my pom is now 12 & healthy) so I have high expectations. Do they have eye problems? Do they like to walk? |

| Comments: | Halla loves it back home in Michigan--we live in Spring Lake, finally for good. There are lots of birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, and mice (she has already caught and snouted two to death--we think they had heart attacks). What a good Swedish farm dog she is! But she still can't manage to herd all the cats, although she certainly tries.
We will be in Charlevoix next week, and will call tomorrow. We aren't bringing Halla, unless you know someone she could board with (?) Do you still have her mom, Reba? I see her buddy Mele had quite a litter last year. Love our Halla, Lynn, Thom, Cullen and Shannon McCurdy |
