As a child in the 1950s and 1960s I remember my parents and grandparents talking about the "Cream Bread" baked on The Hill and favored by the men who had immigrated from Lombardy. From what I understand, Cream Bread was a variation on traditional Italian bread; it was not a sweet breakfast bread.
My wife Mary (also 100% Italian and a Louisiana native) and I have tried to find a recipe for Cream Bread and have found nothing. Are you aware of such a bread, and if so, is it still baked anywhere on The Hill? |
