I am wondering if anyone out there is a decendant of Valentine Dort (van) who fought in the American Revolution and ended up in Dort's Cove, NS. He was married to Elspeth Kiesel (?) - not sure of the spelling. I came across a name on the site of someone from Newfoundland - It is possible that we have a connection there as I heard on a geneology radio show from a man who is very keen on geneology whose name is Terry Punch and he seems to think that all the (van)Dorts living in Canada stem from Valenint Dort - but so far I haven't found anyone! I am suprise to hear that there are so many of us around the world. I do not have the last name Dorth, that is my mother's last name and we in most cases do not carry the name of our mother, I only have my father's last name. We know that the Dorth family in Brazil is very small. When my grandparents got married they had problems with the chruch because they at that time had the same last name, they are for sure related by blood but very far from each other beacuse when they got married they were unable to trace down their family to a commum relative. My grandmother remembers that her grandfather would speak constantly in German. Please remember that at time in Brazil people did not know the difference between The Netherlands and Germany. Until today if you have light skin and blue or green eyes people would say consider you a german person. I would like to get more information about the name Dorth in Brazil and try to find out when they immigrate to Brazil. In Brazil there are no documents about it and it is almost impossible to find out any other information, as the only ones left in the family are the imediate family. Van Dort (born 1974 in Dehewela Sri Lanka, collaged at St Peter's), Son of Tyronne Errol Van Dort married Yvette Margreet Pompeus, Dad from Kandy & Mum from Dehiwela, Sri Lanka. I am looking to find out information of the Van Dort & Pompeus tree that would have been directly connected with our's. I know there are a hundred of you closely connected. Toevallig zijn wij op de site "van Dort en Australia" terecht gekomen. Familie van ons (van Dort) woont er ook. Broer Kees is met zijn vrouw Riet in 1954/1955 naar Aus ge-emigreerd. Ik zag dat je op zoek was naar gegevens, dit is wat ik nu voor je heb: Kees van Dort is geboren plm 1924 in Bodegraven. Zijn ouders heetten Wim van Dort en Riek Tonen. Kees is al eventjes overleden (ik meen een jaar of 8 geleden). Riet van Dort (zijn vrouw) woont momenteel in Penrith 2750 NSW. Zij hebben een dochter (Marjan) en zij is getrouwd met Michael Edgerton. Deze familie woont in Drummoyne 2047 NSW. Eén van hun zoons, Joel Edgetron, is (ik meen) filmacteur en speelt in de serie "The secret Life Of Us" en heeft ook een gastrolletje gehad in een Starwars film. | Comments: | It's an excellent web-site and I've been able to learn so much of the van Dort families which hitherto I knew so little about, except that my gran (Christobel Maud de Run nee Foenander) was a very good friend of 'Aunty van Dort' and her treee children, Fred, Lloyd & Joan, in Kuala Lumpur, when I was growning up in the 1950's. I got to know Fred better in later years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Petaling Jaya, where my father (Lloyd Betram de Run) was the Pastor. It's been great that I've made recent contact with Nina van Dort, who introduced me to your web-site.
Of interest, there is the early union of the van Dort & de Run families in 1774, when Elizabeth Cornelia van Dort married Jan de Run. The de Run genealogy compiled by B.R. Blaze and published in The Genealogist - official journal of the Australian Institute of Genealogical Studies, Vol.1 No.11, September 1976, virtually takes off from this union of the two families. Haar vader, anthonius marinus van dort geboren in utrecht op 25-04-1893. Hij is vertrokken naar wat de verhalen zijn omstreeks 1930 naar san diego, heeft daar een nieuw leven opgebouwd.
