| Comments: | My father Rabbi Israel Levin was the rabbi and Hebrew teacher in Glace Bay back in 1966. I still remember the Gothic windows of the shul, the salty aroma of fish emanating from the fish factory, the coal dust that coated the outside of the houses, the amazing sight of icebergs floating by in the early spring and going to the train station to 'meet our kosher meat' sent from Montreal!
It's sad to know that this Jewish community no longer has any children for a school or much of a future. But those of us who lived there still have fond memories of a small, isolated but friendly community. If any of you still remember my late father, please email me. |
