My father, Francesco Morizzi spent much time in Tripoli as an Italian soldier based there. He spoke very fondly of his time in the region. He was also very fortunate to be based in Tripoli as he had his aunt Rosina Lupino Cordoma and his uncle Francesco Cordoma from Bivioghera, Tripoli looking after him. | Comments: | Ho letto a distanza di tempo molti commenti che appaiono su questo sito, e devo dire che non posso essere d'accordo con quanti sono morbidi con i libici (ovviamente non tutti)
molti si salvano perchè capiscono che gli accadimenti dei tristi anni 1911 (governo giolitti) e seguito governo Fascista etc....sono solo la conseguenza della sporca guerra che è uguale per tutti colore che le praticano e le subiscono Vi invito a riflettere su quanto vado a dire: Siamo forse l'unica nazione al mondo che paga danni di guerra nel 2009.... e poi con quali umiliazioni (vedete l'ultimo viaggio di gheddafi a Roma.... Ma noi italiani cosa dovremmo oggi chiedere al governo tedesco che ci ha deportato migliaia di italiani nei campi di concentramento e li sono morti, e poi cosa hanno fatto gli inglesi in egitto, per 70 anni (molti di più di quelli italiani in libia) gli egizani hanno chiesto strade autostrade etc... oppure il presidente Egiziano ha umiliato la regina inglese, e poi i francesi in algeria tunisia etc... purtroppo la sporca guerra è così qualcuno lo faccia capire a gheddafi le guerre sono così del resto anche lui ha fatto le sue sporcizie come gli italiani , che però a differenza degli altri colonizzatori, hanno costruito strade centrali aquedotti, forse avrebbero fatto meglio a non fare nulla di tutto ciò.... |

| Comments: | Man, I feel sorry for you if you think Fascists were good for Italy! You must then be very sad to see that Italy is a democratic country now and part of the EU with France, Germany, etc.!
In fact one big reason for the starvation of Libyans was the systematic policy of denying them justice - how would you like it if the Germans or the British attacked Rome, Genoa, Milan and then killed Italians, and disenfranchised them - of course Italy would also face starvation because the economic and political system in place has been undermined and attacked by foreign invaders. So if an Italian family then tried to "co-operate" would you say give the invaders credit for it?? By the way, most North African Arabs and Berber people were against Fascism and Nazism - that is why there are so many graves of Muslims in Morrocco, Tunisia etc. who died in World War 2 fighting with the Allies who CRUSHED Germany's Nazis, and Italy's fascits. Do you know that your "Duce" was executed by his own Italian people! . He was shot by Italian people because the Italians said that he had brought great troubles to Italy. You should stop only listening to one side of the story. As long as we have people who believe that everything others do is wrong and everything they do is right - the world will be in trouble! All I said was that the website is biased because it was completely silent on the unprovoked Italian aggression fuelled by colonial designs. So if someone who is not familiar with Libyan people's history, will come to the website and think that Libyans are bad people who were hurting the "kind" Italians! This is not true because you should also see what the Italians did with the Libyans in history!! How would you like it if Libyans now came to Italy, raped the women, made concentration camps, and force Italy to become part of Libya??? I cannot believe it that there are Italians today also who support Mussolini and who think that Italy has any ability to control anyother country!. |

While many things you mention in the website are true, you have chosen to completely ignore the ugly reality of the Italian occupation of Libya for so many decades! The Italians massacared so many Libyan people, humiliated the Libyan people, put them in concentration camps that they made around the country, raped women, wiped out so many villages,......etc. etc. etc. If anyone is interested in reading the horrors of the brutal colonial occupation, you can find lots of information in unbiased books authored by European writers. | Comments: | I just happened to come across your website. I was stationed with the U.S. Air Force outside Tripoli from October 1962 to April 1964. I worked in the Civilian Payroll section of the Accounting & Finance Office and was responsible for the payroll of American Civil Service Workers on the base plus the 400 or so Libyan Civilians working at Wheelus. It was one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. Made several friends while I was there and hope to get back there someday. I worked with three Italian women and have always wondered what happened to them.....especially one named Maria Spadavechhia (last name may be mispelled but close). Caro Giannò. qui di seguito ti riporto il testo di un mio intervento nell'ambito del Forum di Radicali.it sulla visita del Presidente del Consiglio, Silvio Berlusconi, a Tripoli nei giorni scorsi. Ho letto anche l'intervento della Segretaria dell'associazione Profughi Italiani di Libya, trovandola molto ma molto diplomatica. Ora mi chiedo e ti chiedo fino a quando dovremo aspettare per essere indennizzati adeguatamente di quanto abbiamo perso e fino a quando saremo comnsiderati "Nemici della Libya" senza diritto nemmeno di avere il visto turistico per andare se si vuole a rivedere la nostra Tripoli? Fino a quando saremo pecore? Fino a quando? Scusa la mia enfasi, ma resto troppo avvilito dal comportamento ignobile del Governo italiano nei nostri confronti sia jeri e sia oggi. Nulla si sentiva di dire l'ineffabile Presidente, Silvio berlusconi, di fronte allo scempio del Cimitero Cristiano di Tripoli? Proprio nulla? Scusami, ma voglio fermarmi qui, per non andare oltre. Comunque, essendo io impegnato da sempre nel Partito Radicale, intendo portare in questa sede la Questione dei Profughi italiani dalal Libya, però non posso essere solo. ******************************** Cari Amici, con ripugnanza politica ho visionato l'abbraccio che Silvio Berlusconi ha fatto con Muamar Gheddafi, al suo arrivo a Tripoli. Troppa enfasi da parte dei media italiani tutti appiattiti sul valore politico di questa visita. Tutto ciò sulla pelle e sulla vita di una Comunità, quella Italiana, che si sentiva ed era Tripolina a tutti gli effetti, o bengasina, a seconda che fosse inscritta nel comune di Tripoli o in quello di Bengasi. Ma tant'è! I buoni rapporti tra due Paesi passono anche sulla pelle e sulla vita di quei connazionali che hanno avuto il torto di essere cittadini italiani nel Regno di Libya e quindi sacrificati sull'altare delle buone relazioni diplomatiche tra la Repubblica Italiana e la Grande Giamahiria Socialistica Araba Libica. Molto bene, tutto ciò fa un grandissimo onore sia al Presidente della Repubblica Italiana, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi e sia, a maggior ragione, al Presidente del Consiglio dei Ministri, Silvio Berlusconi. Tanto cosa sono ventimila cittadini italiani che formavano quella Comunità italiana di Libya? Un nulla di fronte alle alleanze diplomatiche con un paese, che sembra aver abbandonato la via terroristica. Però quello Stato è uno Stato totalitario, dove non sono (è la stessa Costituzione libica che lo afferma) ammessi i partiti di nessun tipo. Il Presidente Silvio Berlusconi, forse, non sa quanti sono i cittadini italiani di Libya che in seguito all'espulsione hanno oltre ad aver perso tutto, hanno avuto distrutta anche la loro vita futura, hanno visto sequestrato il diritto alla giusta pensione, che solamente dopo molti anni venne riconosciuta la pensione sociale minima anche a chi aveva diritto di avere una pensione secondo le quote trattenute sullo stipendio. Per non parlare dei beni, per non parlare di quanto si lasciò nelle case, per non parlare anche dei libretti bancari di piccolo risparmio. Tutto distrutto in un attimo. Per non parlare della distruzione veramente disumana che è stata fatta del sacrario militare che era a Tripoli all'interno del cimitero cristiano che è stato del tutto distrutto per farvi passare in mezzo una superstrada. No, non è lecito per la cosiddetta "real politik" passare sopra i diritti inalienabili di un'intera Comunità come quella Italiana di Libya, stato che costituiva l'esempio di un concreto cosmopolitismo, dove arabi, europei, asiatici, cattolici, musulmani, ortodossi, protestanti ed ebrei convivevano in una vera e propria Svizzera del Nord Africa. Tutto questo è stato per sempre distrutto dal Colpo di Stato del 1° settembre 1969, evento che nei mesi successivi mise in luce il Colonnello Muamar Gheddafi. Quale cittadino del Comune di Tripoli (la carta d'identià di quel Municipio non mi è stata ufficialmente tolta) non posso che sperare che il Governo Italiano ricordi in concreto i diritti inalienabili di tutta la Comunità Italiana di Libyya. A Tripoli si diceva per una cosa da auspicarsi "Inshallah!", e così anch'io, seppure laicamente, ripeto Inshallah fil Gudwuah! Nicolino Tosoni, Tripolino esule in Patria. |

Come ho gà scritto in un altro sito, quello di Paolo Casson, sono molto interessato alla raccolta di diari, ricordi, racconti, poesie, specialmente dei giorni più vicini al Colpo di Stato, ovvero della domenica 31 agosto 1969, oltre è ovvio ai ricordi del giorno del 1° settembre 1969 e dei giorni immediatamente successivi. Onde ricostruire quei fatti, che hanno cambiato la vita ad un'intera Comunità, che venne distrutta e dispersa. Posso raccoglierli in un unico libro di testimonianze. Per soppravvivere svolgo anche l'attività editoriale. Chissà che non si possano avere ulteriori testimonianze. Sarebbe anche utile raccogliere quanto viene inviato in questo sito. Carissimi, sono Nicolino Tosoni, abitavo a Tripoli con la mia famiglia fino all'ottobre 1970 quando mia madre e mio padre furono espulsi da Tripoli e condotti con la forza al porto di Tripoli per essere imbarcati su una nave verso l'Italia. Io mi trovavo già a Padova perchè studente, allora, presso l'Università degli Studi di Padova. Con il Colpo di Stato del 1° settembre 1969 che pose fine alla Monarchia di Re idriss I, la Libya divenne un paese completamente chiuso ai nonarabi. Il cosmopolitismo che aveva assicurato benessere alla comunità libica costituita da più popoli fu distrutto. In questo modo tantissime amicizie vennero azzerate, anche le mie. Vorrei ritrovare, se possibile, i miei compagni di scuola: il Liceo Italiano "Dante Alighieri" e soprattutto la Classe Quarta che fece l'esame di Stato nell'estate del 1961. Quanta nostalgia della mia città: Tripoli. Abitavo in Sharia Errafei 49, vicino alla Fiera, e vicino alla Chiesa della Madonna della Guardia. Dove saranno quei miei antichi compagni di Liceo? | Comments: | I lived in Tripoli way back in 1967, when my father was in the Air Force staioned at Wheelus. I have great memories of the people of Libya. We had lived in a villa. It was next to a cemetary about 5 miles from Wheelus AFB. Playing soccer, smelling the fresh baked bread in the morning. Going to the ancient Roman ruins of Sabaratha and Leptis Magna. I also remember Tripoli having some kind of Worlds fair about that time.(I was about 8 years old at the time). Like I said I have had great memories of the short time I had lived in Tripoli with my family. With the developments that are occuring in Libya today, I do hope that I will be able to bring my family to Libya, and show them the great memories I once had. |
