| Comments: | I never really know what to do about feeding my two boys on dry food only. They are 3yrs old and th evet recommended I keep them on persian 30 dry food. I have tried to introduce little pouches of wet food but they are not really interested they lick the jelly and thats that. They so get prawns now and again butthey are not big meat lovers. Shall I leave them as they are or shal I persevere with a bit of wet food. Your comments but be appreciated. Thank you Paulen, Gucci and Coco x |

| Comments: | I have a rescued black persian male, approx 7 yrs old now, who suffered bouts of diarrhea and occasional vomiting. I tho't he was not chewing his food sufficiently because whole round pcs were evident in the vomit. But then I realized that he was sensitive to wheat and corn ingredients and switched to a wellness food. Some improvement. Then, I also added a feline probiotic, thinking his digestion may be aging much like my OWN. This has helped also, but not completely cured. I will try eliminating the dry food. |

| Comments: | I have a 5 yr old persian. He's had problems with diarea before due to stress but rectently it's happened w/o any other affects and I'm wondering if its due to the dry cat food we feed him. He cant eat wet though, it's too rich for his stomach. Maybe it's just him but with all of the recalls im worried! |

| Comments: | I was just reading your site on Blue Persians and read this on thd soaking and loose bowls. I just lost my Blue persian kitty of 18.5 years. He lived to be a good age but I had no idea that the food I was feeding him was making him sick. He did the soaking of his chin and chest - but I thought that he was just drooling b/c of a bad tooth the vet said they couldn't take care of b/c of his age. If I had only known it was the food. |

| Comments: | I have read your artical and comments with sadness and geat interest. My 13 year old black persian, Lucy, was fed on a well known brand of dried food all her life (she would not eat wet). Although she always drank alot I was not too concerned as she was healthy, but for the last few months she started hanging over the water bowl and ended up dripping wet. In the last month she became obsested with the water bowl and was very poorly, all tests for kidneys and blood came back negative. She developed a lump and fluid filled tummy and sadly passed away 6 weeks ago. I am now wondering if I could have prevented this. I will be getting a new persian kitten in December (chocolate point) Coco Muffin, and will certainly re think my feeding habits for her and will now know what to look out for. I will alway remember Lucy, she was a special cat. |

| Comments: | I have a 1 year old persian that has the "soaking trait". He has been to 3 vets, no one can figure it out. After reading your text, I just put him on gluton and rice free dry cat food. (he'll only eat dry, no wet). If you have any other suggestions they would be welcome. Thank you, Chris |

| Comments: | My 7 year-old Calico -Tortoise-shell, with perhaps some Siamese ( as she is a talker) who was a 12-week old stray has cronic mouth inflamamtion which makes her sick all over when it gets bad. We have treated it with Predinisone shots and pills and now are on an elmination diet with Hills Prescription diet z/d low allergen (dry). Now I am considering changing altogether with learning the ingredients of dry. Yours and some other articles on dry food problems alert me Until recently we used all dry food of Purina Cat Chow. |

| Comments: | I have also had this problem with a well known special dry diet specifically for persians. My problems have also extended to my queens absorbing kittens and passing small placentas after 5-6 weeks gestation. The loose stools and wet faces have been unbelievable. My problems all started when a new version of this food became available in June this year.Matings prior to the change all produced kittens, matings since have all failed.Have spent alot of money on tests thinking i had a problem in my cattery which all returned negative. My investigations have turned up alot of breeders with the same problems i have had.I have now changed to TECHNIC-CAL,not even bothering to introduce new brand slowly, after three days stools are normal and wet faces through constant drinking nearly gone.Have also noticed water intake far less and NO SEDIMENT in bottom of bowl. |

| Comments: | Hello, I have been reading your correspondance regarding soaking with slight dread - I have a young persian at 10mths and just recently he had started to get very wet on his chin and bib area and this would also become odourous this has happened on two occassions within 1 week - initially I thought he had found something in the house that he decided to chew etc..because in the morning the cat would be fine, later in the day it would be noticed that he was giving off an odour from around his chin area and would be soaking wet. I was even thinking of getting a specialised drinking station similar to rats / mice water bottles, but after reading your article I am beginning to wonder if the dry food I feed him on is the effect ?? I do not know what to do the food that I feed the cat is Royal Canin Persian 30 - Is this the same food ather people have had problems with - I am at a loss as what to do, this food was recommended by the people I got the cat from, they have four Persians that have no problems. Are there any recommendations to change the diet and to what ?? |

| Comments: | i have a 15 year old blue persian.she has been having the occasional fit. she dribbles during the fits and howls.. she is on dried and wet food.. she has never had any illnesses... her half brother was a orange colourpoint.he was 1 week younger than misty... he had the same symtoms that went on for over 4 months.. we took him to the vets and was told he was healthy and done various tests.. this was more distressing for the cat.. all i was told was he had a sore throat. he became very weak and slept 22 hours a day.. we decided that he should be put to sleep as his quality of life was not good. this was very sad and i would prefer not to do this to misty... any ideas |

| Comments: | thank you so much for this information - I was at my wits end. I thought I was the only owner with this problem. My cat was soaking and turning dark brown - my vet was completely stumped - cleaned sollys teeth with no change. Stopped feeding {XX brand name removed XX) and the problem stopped. |

| Comments: | I too have had a similar problem with dried food. One of my cats started having diarrhea and was soaking from his chin to toes whenever he drank and had terrible staining. I took him to the vet who prescribed a veterinary biscuit diet, things got worse. I spoke to the supplier of the dried food I was feeding who suggested trying some of their other products. I think I have tried every dried food available, each time I changed product the symptoms would ease for a while only to return. I have switched him to a wet diet of whiskas, felix, hi life and fresh meat and fish. Within 2 days the diarrhea stopped and the soaking too. He is a different cat. It is amazing to think a food can do this. My other cats still have biscuit as they are able to cope with them, however, they are not fed totally on dried food. |

| Comments: | If you have had a similar experience with feeding complete dry food please add your comment. while it appears that a good percentage of cats have no problem the purpose of this page is to provide information for owners whose pets may be having a similar reaction. |
