having bought an ancient hollow, 2.5m "no-name" barge (complete with wooden shaft paddle!) a couple of years ago, which leaked so much that it required emptying every 20 min. Thankfully (!), I bent it in half at Tallows (Byron) and have since updated to a S/H Kyll 2.4m solid ski last year. Now I'm having a ball, but would love some tips, and there's no-one around to compare notes with! By the way, what do board riders have against goaties? Is it a jealousy thing?!! |

Have had 4 ski's 1st must have been about 10-11 ft long 2nd was a heavy single find 3rd was a 75kg tri fin Kola Ski 4th was a 115kg Mac Ski - to carry the extra weight around my middle etc !!! too many Castles I think. Have just ordered a new ski from Willy Graser of Tokai Cape Town. He has been making ski's for about 15 years for the pro's, he makes 6-8 ski's a year, up to his 100th ski now. Shapes from polystyrene. Quality and ride is unbelievable. He believes in a banana shaped planing bottom which gives endless acceleration. Should have the ski by the time the cold frons come through in June July August. best place locally is Betty's Bay, about 35 minuts from home. J Bay is about a 7 hr drive but it is worth it. J bay cant be beaten for quality surf and size. Cheers Bruce |

Hi, I just found out while looking for waveskiing information on the netthat you exist and that there still are waveskiers around. Fantastic! I have been waveskiing for over 10 years now and have surfed throughout Australia. Waveskiing virtually ceased in Tasmania about 3 years ago and now there are now less than 4 real waveskiers in southern Tasmania. You can't even buy or order waveskis here any more. Over the last four years on my annual drive up to Noosa I have been amazed at the number of waveskiing shops that have closed along the Australian eastcoast. Top manufacturers such as DeSlash have gone and you never see waveskiers at any of theregular breaks. My mate and I surfed many great breaks in northern NSW and along the Sunshine Coast and never saw one other waveskier. I understand that even Christo has now closed his business. I use to compete about 7 years ago when competions in Tasmania existed but that folded shortly afterwards. I introduced a friend to waveskiing about 5 years ago and, except for a guy called Damien Jones who was the Tas waveskiing champ for a number of years, we are the only keen active waveskiers around now. The only good thing about that is the fact that we don't cop flak from board riders anymore. We also have great crowdless surf. Best wishes Ron Rainbow |

with other "goat-boaters" (except a friend of mine). So has anyone got any good sources for surf/wave ski publications and videos that can be acquired (other than this excellent website. Also where can you get Chirsto Quad belts,, and a decent length leash so the board doesnt spring back at your eyeballs when you come off.. Yeah I know don't fall off in the fist place!! |
