I am delighted to see how helpful the B/M/D lists are on golton.com - not least because the 1916 March Robert H Golton, who married Clarissa Bigg is my great-grandfather! However, he was one of 9 I think, so I'll keep going! |

| Comments: | My grandmother was Florence May Golton, born 1896, Wistow, daughter of Joseph Golton. She married Harry Thompson and they farmed at Stockbridge Farm, Ryther.
I have traced the Goltons back to the 17thC in Wistow and nearby villages. I am particularly interested in any info around Thomas Golton, 1824-1848, born Ottringham, raised in Wistow (sometimes spelled 'Goulton'), as he was involved in a fascinating court case in 1844. Also his niece, Sarah, born Wistow, 1857, and married to the murdered policeman, Alfred Austwick. If anyone has any Wistow Golton info, or wants to know more from the info I have - do contact me! |

Have only recently started researching the family history, but am hoping to learn more about where we came from. Have photographs going back to Annie Golton wife of Thomas Goulton who was born in Wistow around 1850. |

| Comments: | I've just stumbled upon this website and found my family all listed back to my Great Grandfather, Robert Gustavus Golton. His son (my grandfather) was Cyril Robert Golton. born in Portsmouth 1903 and married Minnie Tiller in Bournemouth Pokesdown around 1930 (I'll have to find out when!) deceased 1984. His son (my father) Bryan Robert Golton was born in 30th April 1932 and still in the land of the livin'. Just for the record I'm Alan Robert G. b 19th June 1955 and have a son Andrew James Robert G. born 10th Oct 1997 and 2 daughters Rachel Louise G. born 8th December 1988 and Andrea Jane G. born 8th August 1991 |

| Comments: | I already have an entry in this fantastic guest book but have changed my email address recently to the one above.
Every time I revisit here I am amazed at how much it has grown,if you simply type Goulton into Google you will find more than eight hundred entries or hits one of which is this guestbook. One of the other sites attempts to show where most of us live (england only) and it seems that there is a link between Goltons and Goultons while Gaultons and Galtons may a separate group, a quick look would say they have a point missed by yours truly ( OH well! I never said I was one of the brighter Goultons). There still appears to be some room for my Dads theory which is based on the Town of Goole or Goolton and one of my ancestors a Goolton had a son listed in the records as Goulton could this be because he had to use a "scribe" who wrote the births entry as Goulton? I may never find out for sure and regret loosing Grandad Goulton when I was very young, OH! I never heard the stories of sailing ships and where he had been, It does seem that the Goultons chose to follow another Yorky Capt James Cook to New Zealand and Australia I'm so glad they did, we live in the two best countries in the world. I only hope that all the New Aussies can be as proud of this country as I am, If they don't Australia will become just like the rest of the world and they will have forgotten the reason they came here in the first place. I would love to go to England to the towns of Goole and Goulton and Goulton Road and Goulton Street, and to see the port of Grimsby where Grandad set out, but it probably wont happen. John Goulton |

My name is Frances Goulton, my dad's name was Micheal Goulton and his father was William Goulton. William's father was Benjamin Goulton who came out to New Zealand in about late 1850's early 1860's, and settled in the Far North in a small town called Kaeo. We believe he came out from England bringing with him his family. While there are not hundreds of us there are nevertheless enough to keep the name going in New Zealand. Like the rest of you we acknowledge that we descend from an awesome lineage. mauri ora ki a tatou! |

My ancestors originated in Dorset and then moved to Lancashire England in the late 1790s and early 1800s. I am particularly interested in finding out any information about my Great Aunt Alice Maud Gaulton, Born 1899 in Chorlton, Lancashire. Her parents were Henry Gaulton & Sarah Ann Marshall. Alice had three siblings Joseph (my grandfather), Harriet and Elise. Her parents died in 1916, and I have not been able to locate anything about her since the 1911 census. Any help would be great. Thanks Emma |

| Comments: | Hi all,
What a great site. Here's something that may help in your research. I don't know if you have all come across www.yorkshirebmd.org.uk - but there are loads of Golton / Goulton's so far that have been transcribed. This differs from the GRO records as it is the original records being transcribed - not the secondary copies that the GRO has. The project is not complete yet - it is being done by volunteers from the family history societies and the Register offices. If you want to know when the site gets updated - just go to www.ukbmd.org.uk and click on the register button (free). The indexes are all free to search. Happy Hunting!! |

One had signed Mr G Britton, pugilist boxer prize fighter Bournemouth Hants 1868. She married George Henry Thompson, of Stockbridge Farm, Ryther and died in her 40s. My mother was her eldest child, Mary. Mr S Golton age 26 left London on 29th March 1906 onboard the Pomeranian bound for Halifax. N.B. Over many years my cousin Audrey and I have accumulated all B/M/D entries from the London registers from 1837 to ~1930 and will be happy to email the small GO/GOU and GA/GAU text files to anyone interested; they have been well checked. |

| Comments: | Hi- I noticed that you have a birth of one Quarton Houlden Golton to Thomas James Golton and Annie Elizabeth Houlden in your list. I've been researching the Houlden family. My wife is a gg granddaughter of Quarton Houlden of Leyland. Given the recurrence of the first name of Quarton I feel sure there must be a relationship. BTW: Quarton is a family name from Barmby Moor, ER of Yorkshire. There were intermarriages between the Quartons and Houldens (also from Barmby Moor). It would be great if you have any further details to help identify the connection. Cheers. |

| Comments: | Both My Grandfather and father seemed sure that our name was previously Goolton, from the town of Goole which is up the river from Grimsby in Yorkshire.
This was verified when I could not go back very far when doing my family tree. The Mormon records show that a Goolton had a son called Goulton, all subsequent relatives of mine became Goultons, Perhaps a scribe changed the birth certificate. There is some logic to this theory when one researches Grimsby and My grandfather. |

My father's name was Ron Golton and he passed away about 10 years ago at age 85. We do not know anything about his family background. Did anyone reading this know him? Thanks. |

| Comments: | My grandfather was John Arthur Goulton from South Duffield/Cliffe in Yorkshire. He was from a large family but his mother died when he was a youngster and his father remarried and I think had more children. My grandmother was Marjorie White from Yorkshire. My father was John Arthur Goulton, born 1923, Yorkshire. |

| Comments: | My grandmother was Florence May Golton. She married my grandfather George Henry Thompson of Ryther in the 1920s, but we are not sure which of the local farms she came from.
A couple of days ago, we saw a couple of Goltons on the war memorial in Kelfield (In the normally locked Village Institute), so we're wonderin which side of the Ouse our branch of the Goltons came from, as we'd always assumed they were the Cawood/Ryther side but it now looks possible they could have been from the very village where we now live. We have a lot of information on the Thompsons, but as Florence died quite young, know nothing of the Goltons yet except that they were a farming family. If anyone has come across Florence May as a sibling maybe of one of 'their' Goltons, please email us to set us off in the right direction! |

| Comments: | I've recently discovered that my gt-gt-grandmother was Maria Elizabeth Galton, born to Francis Galton (a jeweller) and Maria at St Pancras, London, November 21 1825. She married John George Edwards, a cabinet maker (b. 1816 at Dockhead, Horsleydown, London) at Hoxton, London, on September 25, 1849. There seem to have been very few Galtons in London at that time. More important than her relationship to me is the fact that she was the great-grandmother of Sir George Edwards OM CBE, the aircraft designer, former Chairman of the British Aircraft Corporation and head (on the British side) of the Concorde project. He died in 2003 at the age of 94 and will be remembered, among other things, for the Vickers Viscount, the Valiant (Britain's first V-bomber) and VC10.
If anyone has information about Francis Galton's ancestors, I should be interested to know. Best of luck with this website! |

| Comments: | I would like to get in touch with Angus Martin who left the following message on the "old Goulton board", or anyone else interested in the Goulton family of Grenada. I have some information on William Wells Goulton and others.
Message Number: 5 Name: Angus Martin Location: Alexandria, Virginia Sent: 8-Feb-2003 I stumbled onto your website todat and found it quite interesting. One of my great-grandfathers was William Wells GOULTON who was born on the Caribbean island of Grenada around 1840. He died in 1874. The only other Goulton I've found in Grenada is a W.D. Goulton. It would be great if anyone can shed some light on the Grenadian branch of the Goultons. Thanks. |

| Comments: | Looking to trace my relatives back from Newfoundland to England(?). My grandfather was Peter Gaulton of Brookfield, NF (b. 1900) who was one of ten children (Lewis, Roland, Madeline, Norman, Stewart, Wilhelmina, Sybil, Reginald), his father was Alfred Jesse Gaulton (master watch on 1898 SS Greenland disaster). He was married to Margaret Hounsell. I believe his father was also a Peter Gaulton. Hope to find some relatives! |
