Comments:My ancestors came from Russian occupied Ukraine in the years 1910 and 1912. Its like I hit a brick wall to get info on either side. My grandfather was Frederick Baun b-1883 and my grandmother Katherine Elizabeth Derr b-21 Sept 1889. My grandmothers mother was a Diener from Warenburg. As near as I can tell the Bauns were from Klingental, letters received from that area, south Russia. The Derrs were from Balzer or Moor. Its a dream to find some information on either family.

Comments:Hi, This site is great!!
My mother is adopted and is in search of her history. She was born 6/27/37 in Kolowert, Ukraine as Frieda BRAUN.
She was adopted into the Gatzke Family in Poland/Germany. She Married my father in Germany and came to New York State.
This would be wonderful if I could find information on her family.
We also think we may be of Jewish decent. Does anyone know of the name Braun from that region.
Thanks for your help!!!

Isenburg, I believe is an area named for the Isenburg family of which there is an Isenburg castle in Buedingen, Germany. Buedingen was one of the gathering places before embarking for Russia. I am trying to locate the actual village the Nuss family orininated. A source of what church records, government archives may help in this search. Would welcome any leads.

I have done some family research but cannot find any immigration records for my family. My Aunt said she believes they entered the U.S. in Alaska. Is that possible? At that time Alaska would be a territory. Would there be records? Did most people from Kolb enter in Canada? Were there people who entered in Alaska?

My Grandfather told me many stories about his life in the "Old Country" as they referred to it. Always talked about how hard it was. He passed away when I was 9 years old and I am now a Grandmother and still remember them. He always said," Be proud to be an American...there is nothing greater on earth to be."

Comments:I am grateful to learn of this preservation foundation. Much of who I am today, the foods I cook, the values I have, I owe to my paternal Grandmother, Johanna (Engel) Trick, a Volga German who was brave enough to venture to America in 1914 from Russia. I was fortunate that she spent most every summer at our home while I was growing up. She taught me how to "make do with very little." I can still see myself sitting at her feet listening to her tales of her life in Russia. I am now finally to the stage of compiling her stories and researching the Engel and Trick side of my family genealogy and would be happy to hear from others with those family surnames. I am proud to be of her heritage and thankful for all the foundations that keep the trials, tribulations and successes of the Volga Germans alive.

Comments:I am pleased to learn that a foundation has been established for the purpose of preserving Volga German and Black Sea German culture and heritage. Over the years I have come to cherish the fact that I grew up in a very important subculture in the United States. Recalling my childhood sometimes appears to be a visit to another country, and spiritually that is what it was. Our culture was a strong blend of cultural elements of Germany in the
16th, 17th, and 18th centuries and of Russia in the late
18th and the whole of the 19th centuries. Our ability to adapt to new areas without losing essence of own early heritage cause Aleksander Solzhenitzyn to remark that the Germans were like willows--wherever they were transplanted, they seemed to thrive. That was certainly demonstrated by the large number of people of Volga German descent who through exile, forced labor, and difficult living conditions under a cruel dictator managed to retain their identity. Mer sein Daitsch, unn bleiwwe Daitsch!

They came from Russia and were named Mueller. My Great-Great Grandfather was Konrad Wilhelm Mueller, Great Grandpa was Uriah Conrad Miller (family names have been anglicized, I think probably due to pressure felt during both world wars). My great-grandfather understood and could write in German very well all his life (as he had to learn it as well as English while growing up). He (Uriah Conrad) was born in 1896 and is buried in Hastings, Oklahoma...not too far from Waurika.

Comments:I appreciate your web site. I maintain a genealogy web site (see above) focused on the Patzer surname. All family files have downloadable GEDCOM files which will share all information I have on these families. Included in the site is a resource page that lists people who are researching all Patzer families (not just the one to which I am connected). I am especially interested in the surnames: Patzer, Klatt, Sass, Ebernik, Rode and Markwart, all or most of which are Germans from Russia and/or Poland.

Comments:I am looking for information concerning the
Wessner family (John born 1879 or his father Christian)
Reichert family (Sara born 1884 or her father John)
Zeller family (Katherina, married to Christian Wessner)
Decker family (Dorothy, maried to John Reichert)
from Beresena, Beserebin

They came to this country around the turn of the century and settled in Mercer Co. (Coleharbor) North Dakota, later moving to Roosevelt Co (Froid) Montana. Family stories say that Katherina came to this country a widow with seven children and married a fellow with the last name of Beglau and settled in the East somewhere. Thankyou for this great opportunity to share!

Comments:Hi! My Great Grandfather, Alexander, came
from Russia in 1913, and settled in Newark
New Jersey, USA. His son was Peter (my grand
father) and Peter's son, James, is my father.
I believe that Alexander had a dozen or so
siblings- several went to Brazil and from what
I know, many went to the midwest, possibly
Colorado. If anybody out there shares a similar
story, feel free to email me to talk about it!
God bless the German people.
