Comments:Bobby Kent and I graduated from Beckville High School together with the Class of 1959 and followed that up with a senior trip to Kansas City to see the Athletics play the Chicago White Sox. I went off to college and lost track of him and was shocked to learn that he had been shot down. One report we heard, which appears to be in error, was that another pilot saw Capt. Kent drop his bombs then didn't see him again. He was a little guy to my 6'5", but we were good friends. He was quarterback on the Beckville Bearcats for a year or two. He has sixteen classmates left from the 26 who graduated to mourn his loss. Thanks for the page.

Comments:Back in the 70s, we had POW/MIA bracelets. Captain Robert Kent's name was on mine. I am now nearly 54 and I still have my bracelet. It has a star on it to show he was "MIA." We recently took our 16-year-old son to Washington, D.C. We went and visited "The Wall." We looked up Captain Kent's name and found it on the wall. We took a picture. I wanted to leave the bracelet but I couldn't. I have had it for so long and keep it in my jewelry box. Just so you know, he isn't forgotten and there are still people who pray for him even though they have never met him. We thank him for serving our Country. God Bless you, Captain Kent and all your family, friends and loved ones. May you all know God's peace.

Comments:I remember Captain Kent and Lieutenant Morin very vividly from my days in VMFA-314. I will go to my grave believing that our politicians left people behind in Southeast Asia, regardless of what they try to tell us. I loaned my "cruise book" to one of Captain Kent's relatives (cousin?) in the early 90's so the family could get some idea of what life was like for us in Chu Lai. Oh, Captain Kent's wingman on that last flight was a Lieutenant who stayed in the Corps and rose to at least full colonel. His name was Fredereich (Fred) Reitsch. He commanded an Air Group during the first Gulf war and I damned near swallowed my gum when I saw and heard him interviewed on TV! I hope the family has been able to contact Freddy for whatever input he could give them about that night! If they family wants they can contact me and I'd be happy to fill them in on anything I can! Comments:Hello, I would like an address where I can write the family of Robert D. Kent. You see, tonight I visited the traveling wall that is here by the Colorado River in Bullhead City, AZ and I looked up Robert D. Kent and also made an imprint of his name. I wore the bracelet with his name up until July 7, 1977 when my daughter turned 10 yeas old. She asked if she could wear it. She wore it faithfully and we prayed for Robert. One day she came home quite upset because the bracelet broke, shortly there after, two weeks before her 11th birthday she was fatally injured in a boating accident and I buried half of the bracelet with her. I like to send the family the slip that has the name Robert D. Kent on it and tell them I visited the wall and his name now twice. I was a student nurse when the vietnam soldiers returned from the war, many were injured badly. I was a student nurse at the V.A. Hopsital and just recently I wrote the manuscript of a novelette - sortof romantic stuff - as I can never forget the brave soldiers at the V.A. hospital. Somehow, by wearng the bracelet and the many prayers I said for him has made me connected to the family of Robert D. Kent. May God bless them for allowing their son to defend our country. He did not live nor die in vain. The Bible teaches : No greater love is this than a man lay down his life for another. God bless, Anna Rich

Through my years of growing up during the Vietnam War I have never given up hope for the return of such brave men, if not in body at least in spirit. It seems like such a long time ago and yet with the current politcal climate in the USA it seems like it has been brought back to life. My heart felt wishes for the loved one's of Capt. Kent. Comments:Captain Kent and First Lieutenant Morin were VMFA-314 squadron mates. I was a young Sergeant at the time, and was VMFA-314's Operations Chief from January 1967 to February 1968. As I recall Kent and Morin joined the Squadron late in my tour (but my memory might be a little fuzzy after so many years). We also lost other members of our Squadron, in particular our Flight Surgeon Stanley Lewis, Lieutenant USN(MC). Lewis was killed by a 122mm rocket January 31, 1968 at 0430 hours during the start of the Tet Offensive. Brave young men killed in a stupid war. And here I sit almost 40 years later, a bank Vice President in a pinstripe suit--it's a strange world.

Comments:I am so grateful to have found this site! I am a 44 year old woman, now living in Colorado. I am from Escanaba, Michigan, a little town in the Upper Pennisula of Michigan. When I was 11 years old, I saved up my allowance to buy a POW bracelet. It bears the name of Captain Robert Kent, and the date December 20, 1968. I keep it in my fireproof lockbox to this day. I just pulled it out to show a friend, because she told me she had bought one when she was a kid too. I have kept my promise to always keep it! I have wondered about him for years, but until now, had never found anything about him. I can't believe I have finally found some information! This is so cool! I will keep it in honor of him until he is found. You know, I have moved many times, gotten rid of many things, including love letters that I thought I would never part with,(well, I got married to someone who was not the author!)and even my old diaries. But I still have that bracelet. Interesting how strong that feeling is for me. I can't wear it because I break out in a rash! There are layers and layers of old clear fingernail polish on the inside of it, so that I could wear it back then. Thanks for the site and my most sincere, reverent prayers go to Captain Kent and all POW/MIAs. Kelly Cox

Comments:Thank you for this site. I just visited for the first time, and stopped immediately and said a prayer for Capt. Kent, and his co-pilot. I am a Marine Corporal Veteran of the Vietnam WAR, and I can understand how the family feels, even being this long, they have the promise of the Lord that they will meet again. My prayers are also with them.Capt. Kent whereever you are, Semper Fidelis. Cpl.of Marines Ken Beck

Comments:Thank you so much for putting together this site on Captain Kent. Tonight, on the television show 60 Minutes II there was a story about a woman who was able to learn about her dad, KIA in Vietnam, just by typing his name in her search engine........I had tried to do this re:Captain Kent before, to learn about him, but had been unsuccessful. After seeing the TV show tonight, I tried again and found this webpage, just like the woman in the story found information on her father. In the early 70s, when I was 11 or 12 years old and living in my home state of Oklahoma, the older sister of my best friend facilitated our getting POW bracelets to wear. The name on the bracelet I received was Captain Kent's. I always wore it very carefully, never allowing it to come to harm or break, as did some of the bracelets worn by my young friends. Our POW bracelets were the only pieces of jewelry we were allowed to wear in gym class. We had to cover them with tennis sweat bands or the cut off cuffs of socks. It was understood that we were to never take them off, so it was not expected that we would. I'm not sure how I learned the information...maybe it came with the bracelet....but I have always known Captain Kent's date of birth and that he was MIA rather than a POW. I knew he was a pilot, but have always thought he was Air Force rather than Marine. I finally took off the bracelet at some point, but have never forgotten Captain Kent himself...always wondering what happened to him and remembering his birthday and loss date every year. I still have Captain Kent's bracelet, bent and scratched but intact. I have traveled to the Wall and have etched his name from it. Recently I finally found a framer who I feel I can entrust with the irreplaceable bracelet and the etching and plan to have them placed together in a shadow box to display in my home. I would love to have this shadow box come to Captain Kent's family in time as I have no one to leave it to in my own family, certainly no one who would understand how special it has been to me through the years. I am very pleased that this might now actually be possible due to the website's connection with his family. I am also grateful that Captain Kent's family may now know how important their loved one was to a skinny little girl in living in rural Oklahoma and how important he still is to the woman that little girl became. They are, and always have been, in my thoughts and prayers.

Comments:When I was 12yrs old I was trying to understand what was going on with the war. I wanted to "do something" to help but did not know how.. I decided to wear a POW braclet and was sent one with the name Captain Robert D. Kent. I wore that bracelt everyday and said prayers for his safe return. I may have even written to the family too, (I don't remember). However, I do remember how sad I was the day I finally took off the braclet. Today, February 16th, 2004, I am visting Washington DC for the first time. When walking up to the Vietnam Memorial, I quickly remembered that time in my life when wearing a braclet with Captain Robert D. Kent's name on it was the most important thing I could do. (Something I had not thought of for more than 20 years) I found his name, I touched it and wept for those who knew him. Although I never knew him, I believe there was a connection there for me as a young girl trying to understand the war going on, watching the news showing all the young boys dying and wearing Captain Robert D. Kent's POW braclet. As I sit in my hotel room tonight I felt driven to look up Captain Robert D. Kent (something I had not thought about for many many years)on the internet. I am glad I did .. and found such a wonderful website. My thoughts and prayers to all who knew him personally.. family and friends!

Comments:Don't know why I stopped on this page, on this day, but..... In Dec. 1968, I was stationed in CHU LAI with the 176th AHC flying Army C-model gun ships. We had a small "O" Club, and on this particular night we had a USO show. Some of the Marine pilots from "MAG" 13 came by to see the show. I struck up a conversation with this Marine Captain, just small talk. After the show, we had a drink in the bar, and as he was leaving, he invited me to stop by "MAG" 13 and he would give me a tour of the F-4's. He also said that Sunday nights was "Steak Night", and for me to come by and have one. I remember that it was almost Christmas, and I stopped by the "MAG" 13 ramp. I don't remember this Captains name as it's been 35 years, but I am pretty sure it was Kent. When I asked where I could find him, I was told that he was MIA and presumed dead as a result of flying a night mission as few days before. Not wanting to dig too much, I asked what they knew about the mission. They said that the F-4 was on a target run in Laos, and that they thought the pilot might have had target fixation on this night mission and that he had flown the F-4 into the ground. I remember this Captain as being a nice, friendly guy who made my moment in Viet Nam that day we met as feeling like I had met a friend from "Home".
