Name: Brenda Jackson E-mail address: bfj1948@yahoo.com Comments: My husband and I read your notes and we feel the same as you. I have made many trips to Poarch. I took a copy of the 1880 census, Escambia co. Al. with my G grandmothers name on it. Mary Boatwright, she was 55 years old. The census taker put down "Mu" as her race. We know she was Indian. Poarch told me Boatwright was not Indian--I was told to fine out her maiden name. I have been told it is Alton and her husband was Benjamin Isacc Boatwright. I am still trying to fine out for sure. My grandfather was Charlie Woods and Mary was his grandmother and he is also from the Weatherford line. But because of an illegitimate birth of his grandmother, Mary Hadley Weatherford, Poarch won't accept him.The goverment did accept him on the land grant payments but Poarch won't. Both of his parents had Indian blood but it didn't help him. My grandmother was Isabell Gibson. Both of her parents were Indains also.William M. Dees - John Semoice - Sam Moniac - Drucilla Gibson - - were her grandparents and G. Grandparents. My mother is on roll but they would not let us, her five children. Said we didn't have enought blood. Poarch used our names and our children names to get recognized.Thank you for your hard work and this site. Brenda

Name: Betty (Morning Dove) E-mail address: BettyKing32578@hotmail.com Comments: Thanks for all of your hard work. I have been searching for family going on 5 years. We have always been told we were Indian on both sides of my famly and I have found cousins on line that have heard the same stories. They can't all be lies. These cousins & I have never met but we have the same stories & same relatives. To prove your heritage is near impossible. Why should we have to prove our RACE??? I went to Cherokee, NC last week and was given so much red tape and a run around, not treated very nice. My Great Great Grandparents were William D. Padgett born 1844 (Creek) and Elizabeth (Sis)Smith born 1848 (Cherokee). William D. Padgets' parents were Elijah Padgett jr(Creek) and Lottie (Johnson) Creek. Lotties' parents were Starling & Sara Johnson (Creek). Elijah Padgett jrs'Father was Elijah Padgett sr also Creek. Elijah Padget 3rd, born 1824, his wife Mary Jane & children are listed in 1860 Baldwin County Al census as Indian. My Fathers' family were Kings they lived in Escambia County from 1822 until they died on what was then Indian Reservation. I have records of this but still not good enough to be accepted in to a Tribe. One thing for sure,"We know what our RACE is and WHO we ARE"! My birth certificate does not say I am white, black or red, or that my parents were white, black or red. So, who are they to tell me I am not Indian?

Because the mothers died young much family information has been lost. Mother was told her g-grandmother was Indian, but we don't know from what nation. We just returned from a trip to Kansas and found the graves of my gg-grandparents, Stephen Bauldwin(Baldwin) and Ginnetta Creek Bauldwin. Some of their children are buried in Indiana and the Bauldwin family is traced to Kentucky and NC. They were married 11 Sept 1842, according to the family Bible, but no location is given. Stephen was born 31 Oct 1821 and Ginnetta was born 20 Sept 1824. We have no location for either of their births and no information about their parents. If anyone has information that could help us, please write. Thank you for your great webpages! Martha

My 7th great grandmother was Ursula Weatherford cousin by marriage to Chief Red Eagle. People say we are Cherokee others say we are Creek. I guess it was really up to whoever was paying the money could decide who you are. Enjoyed reading your history and your thoughts. Sue

Name: Graylin Smith E-mail address: graylinsmith@yahoo.com Comments: Greatly enjoyed the site. I see you folks have done a lot of work on genealogy. I NEED SOME HELP! I'm from Fl. My family came to Fl before 1840 from Ga. This is the Family of Isaac Smith and Nancy Carver. Their two oldest sons are John W. Smith and Isaiah Smith (Isaiah is my line). These two sons seem to be moving back and forth between Fl and Ga in the late 1840's and early 1850's. I know that John W. married Nancy A. Smith (probably a cousin) in Houston county Ga. on 2/1/1835. My records have Isaiah's wife as Amelia Cox; that they married in Ga around 1847; that she was from S.C.; and their oldest son Henry is born 1848. I find in Dooly County Ga. (a county next to Houston), in marriage record books and census the following: Isaiah Smith (jr) married to PERMELIA HATHCOCK on 8/5/1847. The 1850 Dooly Co. Ga. census show them with a son named Henry age 2, Isaiah is 34 and Permelia is 21. Living with them is Ann Hathcock. None can read or write. Isaiah's age is a little old compared to my records, plus I don't have him as a Jr. Then there is the name closeness; Permelia Hathcock = Amelia Cox ? But the rest are matching up with my records. Thank you for reading my story. If you can help please write back. Graylin Smith

My great-Grandfather was Billy Hithe Thorne, also known as "Doc" Thorne, the medicine man. He married an Indian woman, I don't have her name.At any rate my grandfather was given up for adoption to a man named Sherrod Hall. Any information will be greatly appreciated. By the way I have a picture of G.W. Murphy with a whole generation of Murphy's for the people who are interested, just e-mail me and let me know. They are a very good Native family who have done so much for the People, and yet this Leah Sims has chosen to slaughter them over the internet. I am trying to find out who this person really is. Do you know if that is the real name of the person? Do you know of any other Native Peoples this person has attacked? Does this person really live in Stanley NC? Do you have a reason why, (besides just sick cruel kicks) that this person would do this? I am sorry you also have had to experience the slaying words of this evil minded person, if you could share anything you may know, maybe we can stop it. Sincerely, Kara L. Nadal

They both confirm my family's stories and Creek research. I'm descended from William Weatherford and his third wife, Mary Stiggins, through their daughter, Mary Levitia Weatherford. I'm currently joining the Oklahoma Muskogee Nation, since I'm not able to join the Eastern Creeks at Atmore. Fortunately two of Levitia's children eventually made it to Oklahoma and registered with the Dawes Commission (including my great grandmother). Their children married full bloods so we have a high quantum of Creek blood today (but still not accepted by the Eastern Creek?). that Red Eagle's descendants can't join the Eastern tribe,

Her name was Nanct Dees(e)(we are not sure if her last name had the extra e on the end or not). She died 1840- 43, and married George Edmund Wiggins on 9-13- 1820 at Bay Minette, AL (this marriage is the only documentation I have been able to find on her). They had 3 known kids, Joseph, William (Bill), and Edmund (Ed). It is kind of discouraging to know that the Tribe doesn't want other people, be they white or Native Americans from different Tribes to learn anything about their ancestors who might have come from the Poarch Creek Tribe. I for one am proud of all my ancestral connections, even the ones called bad apples! If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here!!! :)

It probably does not have anything to do with a family connection, but my great grandparents Silas Hildred and Jincy Della Gibson are buried in the Wynn Cemetery in Summerdale. I noticed that some of your Gibsons are buried there also. Michael was born in Alabama about 1825 his father was born in South Carolina about 1801 and mother was born in Georgia about 1805. You have a wonderful web site!

On the "new - page 2" picture...Leacy Williams and family; I have a tid-bit of interesting info. It was stated to me that the two Hathcock girls on the front left row were wearing headbands. "Headbands?" I questioned. Yes!!! Indian headbands!!! I was told this by Loyce & Mildred (Phillips) Gregson. Happy Holidays to ALL!!!

I have not been able to trace our line back past my grandfather, John Henry Heathcock and his father, Columbus Heathcock. All from in and around San Antonio, Tx. My dad and his dad could have passed for twins. They both had reddish hair and were nicknamed "Red". Enjoyed you website. Mary

Name: sandi E-mail address: lujah7@hotmail.com Comments: mvto-thank you so much for the above words!I am one of those that you speak of who knows but has little "official" documentation to "prove" my ancestry-it is so sickening to me that we as Native people ever allowed ourselves to get caught up in the "quantum trap" just one more way the gov't has to separate us-anyway-my gg- grandmother was Matilda Savannah Colvin-she was the daughter of Abegale Sizemore/Henry Colvin- born in north Florida around the Appalachicola area 1844/49-left there-went to now Escambia County Ala. she married William Robert Boutwell in Liberty County ,Fl. they lived in Ala. he died in 1918-she in 1936-I have pictures of Matilda- have always known that she was-and therefore I am Creek/Seminole-i keep seeing the Sizemore name in research but haven't made the link to Abegale yet- again-thank you for this page-any info.about my family would be much appreciated-we will stay strong.Sandi
