Comments:What a brilliant site! I am descended from a Robert Murphy and Isabel(la) Knox (1778) who both came to Scotland from Ireland. Their son, William Knox Murphy (my gggrandfather)worked as a potter and pipemaker in Paisley, Lanarkshire. This is what makes me think there might be a connection to your Knoxes/ Murphys. There are numerous Williams, James' and Johns in the family! I have not been quite sure up until now how to start looking in Ireland! My grandmother always said we were descended from John Knox. If this is the case, the family must have come to Ireland from Scotland originally, as yours did. All the best, Rachel

I have a very worn newspaper clipping of a Neil Boyce who was supposedly a cousin of my g. grandfather Connell Boyce. Neil at that time was 114 years old and came from Aughavoy, Welshtown, near Ballybofey, Co. Donegal. Connell Boyce's father Patrick Boyce has been listed as a farmer and a shoemaker. Connell's mother was Bridget Brown. Interestingly the family always said Connell but his son put Cornelius on the death cert and I have noticed that in Irish obits Con can mean Cornelius. Connell was born 25 Jan 1863 in Glenfinn, Donegal and died 28 Mar 1935 Helensburgh, Scotland.

Comments:Dear Heather, Are you interested in correcting typos and other minor errors? If it is easy, and as an incentive, I am willing to give you an excellent rating when the job is completed. It is a job well done in its present form. I am not in a realistic position to pass constructive comment since I have only scratched the surface of your genealogical researches. I have a unique service to offer to you. Having disabilities, I am in an unusual position. Presently, I am able to pass comment from the perspective of visitors with visual impairments - not an uncommon weakness in many genealogical researchers. If you believe that speech recognition technology has a part to play in certain circumstances as the digital revolution advances, I am able to offer you feedback now from a position of some knowledge. For instance, I know precisely what happens if a speech recognition user makes a mistake and tries to remedy it.

Comments:Hi - I was in touch with you some years ago (provided you with the photographs of William Donaldson and wife Rose (nee Burns) re the Donaldson siblings who emigrated to Australia - William (bn ca 1818-1819), Mary (bn ca 1821) and Ann (bn ca 1825). Their parents were Samuel Donaldson and Ann/Nancy. By my estimate Samuel was born ca 1790. Is it possible that Samuel and Hannah (nee Campbell) mentioned on your web site are the parents of the three above. Do you know when/where Samuel and Hannah married? All of the children mentioned on your site were born 1826 onwards which also made me wonder if there were earlier children to the marriage.

Comments:Heather

I enjoyed your site.

I am descended from a John James Hood who married my great-grandmother and raised a large family in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire - although we always knew he came from Ireland. I have just recently found his parent's marriage entry which leads me to Ardstraw. The entry lists Robert Hood, son of James, both weavers in Lisnafin, marrying Eliza Jane Pollock, daughter of the weaver William Pollock from Camus.

I don't know much more than that except that John James had a brother Samuel who can to America to live in Philadelphia where he was a lamplighter. He visited his niece (my grandmother) in Canada sometims in the 1920s.

I will be digging into these Hoods a bit more now that I have the link to Ardstraw and Tyrone.

Near where I live there in canada there is a small community called Strabane where a number of Hoods are buried. The oldest stones are for a John Hood, who died in 1878 at the age of 84, and his son James who died in 1881 at the age of 65. The stone indicates that they are natives of Co. Tyrone. No known link at this point but who knows.

Comments:Hi Heather.
I've just self-published a book covering the history of Ireland's first school for the deaf, the Claremont Institution (1816-1978) titled "The Avenue". One of its pupils was Robert Stewart Lyons, Riversdale, Newtownstewart, member of Badoney Presbyterian Church. Interesting to note that Anne Susan Steward was a 'strong Methodist, reading the Bible daily'. Don't know if she was R.S.Lyon's mother, as his father was Robert Lyons? R.S.Lyons wanted to enter the ministry for the deaf and was appointed by the Archbishop of Cork in 1881 for that job. In the same year he went to Washington DC, USA, to attend the 'National Deaf-Mute College' (now Gallaudet University). Unfortunately, he took ill and was taken back to ireland and died at home on 5 June 1885. According to his father's letter, his son's funeral was one of the biggest for many years.
If you have any info on the children of Robert Lyons and Anne S.Stewart to see if R.S.Lyon is listed or not, that would be very much appreciated.
Well done on your site!
