| I've been a fan of The Connells since a friend of mine introduced me to Darker Days in Junior High. They quickly became one of my favorites. Boylan Heights is by far my favorite album. Beautiful stuff. I'm listening to it right now. Very topical today, since it's kind of an anti war album. I was lucky to seem them on their Boylan Heights tour at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC. I was under age, so I had my older sister take me. I talked to Peele briefly, but was nervous and intimidated, because they felt like gods to me. But we was nice, and appreciative, like a regular guy. I had the album on LP, but just a couple years later I started to listen to just CDs, and sort of forgot how great the album is for about ten years. Fantastic album. I like a lot of their other stuff too, but none of it has the same impact on me as Boylan Heights. I listened to "Just Like Us" about ten times right before I wrote this. Listening to "Over There" now. I love how it's got this sort of happy "Go Army" sound, but it says, "Lead the sheep in their sleep to slaughter." The official website says that they are working on a new album. | |

| The Connells played New Years Eve to a festive, inebriated, but appreciative audience. The venerable Cat's Cradle here in Chapel hill NC was host of the event and the band layed many favorites, Slackjawed, Disapointed, Dull Brown and Grey, 74-75 kick ass performance of Darker Days with Potak adding some awesome keys, rolled out one new song, plus a timely cover of U2's New Years Day. As a long time fan it's great to be able to see them in stride. I can say with all truthfullness that they are one of my all time favorites, and that all of the guys are down to earth, and some of the nicest folks you'd ever hope to meet. I went to high school and started college in Virginia and was able to see the Connells at many Virginia hotspots including Traxx in Charlottesville (where I had a beer and conversation with Mike) and dozens of shows at the Boathouse in Norfolk (I was at the concert where Slackjawed was shot in '93).

great. Seen them live 6 times: 3 times in Salt Lake City, once in Richmond, VA, and twice at the Boathouse in Norfolk, VA. Met all the band members at the Boathouse. They are great guys. Best albums are Boylan Heights and Fun & Games, but all of them are classics. |
