I am a plaintiff in the hep-c class action suit against the Government for it's handling and non disclosure of tainted blood in the 80's. I would first like to thank and acknowledge the Conservative Government for at last taking steps toward compensation for those of us infected by the negligence of the Red Cross, and the provincial and federal governments at the time. I am protesting the Government's plan to compensate victim's based on degree/severity of illness because it's a plan that doesn't take into account the very real possibility of future health deterioration from hep-c. At this point, I'm very fortunate that my symptoms, though at times uncomfortable, are not yet life threatening... and it doesn't mean that my health won't decline further over time, threatening the quality and length of my life. Beside the issue of hep-c symptoms and severity, there are other future considerations/concerns such as medication, as medications that I may need to sustain quality of life and even life itself could well be off limits to me because of their negative effect and impact to my liver. I have already, many times experienced limitations to certain medications because of hep-c which impacts treatment options and quality of life. If I'm not mistaken, the Government will also require liver biopsies to prove degree/severity of illness. It's not bad enough that we were infected and live with the disease, the Government wants to force an invasive and dangerous procedure on us to prove our worthiness of compensation. Isn't my letter from the Canadian Blood Services Society enough proof that I am an infected person due to tainted blood? The degree of my illness does not make the Government less culpable for fair and equal compensation for all. I respectfully request that compensation be equitable and fair for all infected victims of hep-c regardless of current severity of illness. The writing of this letter is encouraged and supported by my family physician. Thank you for your time and consideration Minister. |

| Comments: | I found out in 2000 that i had hepc...have been doing fairly well untill lately....I got this from a blood transfusion back in 79 when i lost a baby and had a transfusion, just found out today that im going on the transplant list, now what?...would like to talk with anyone who has been through the transplant.

Do we tell everyone who we slept with before we got married? Do we tell everyone we know now that it's part of the family? Do I need to let my boss know? What?!

| Comments: | I have had Hep C for 9 years now and have gotten and secondary illness from it. It's been improving though. My liver tests have been normal and I haven't had a drink in 3 1/2 years and have been clean for over 4 years or so. I have a daughter who is 5 and I want to live a good life and be a good mother so I'm working on being healthy as I can. I no of no one here in Penticton that I can talk to about Hep C so I like to connect to others that are going through the same feelings and concerns. Thank you for the group. |

| Comments: | I got it, don't want it, but have learned to live with it. At 49 have had it for 26 years. Am in shape and eat well but am starting to get symptoms that don't feel good. Hope they don't get worse. My next plan of action will be to look into dietary controls, as well as, dietary supplements. I would love to talk to anyone who knows anything helpful. Also, I read that colloidal silver can actually reduce viral count but is very expensive. Who ever heard of colloidal silver. Sounds like snake oil to me especially at what they want to charge for it. |

| Comments: | I've recently been diagnosed with Hep C because of a tainted blood transfusion following delivery of one of my children (in either '82 or '84). The attached is the Canadian petition site for all victims of Hep C infected by Canada's unsafe blood supply. I prefer to confront this with strength and advocacy for all victims instead of boohooing about things that can't be changed. I boohoo in private ;o). It is my hope that you will sign the petition and encourage others too as well. In BC alone, there are approximately 300,000 infected and most of them sadly don't know. I've been feeling the effects of this virus for many years, but ignored the symptoms thinking they were associated with aging and menopause. Don't make the same mistake. | Comments: | Dear People, I found out that I had HC back in the 90 when I was donating blood. I was told that it wasn't active and that I was a carrier of the virus. Ignorance is bliss I never gave it a second thought. I am not real sure where I got the virus or even what it was. I am fifty years old and have not had any health problems as of yet. Recently I became curious about it and have done alot of research about it. The more I found out about it the more concern I became. I recently had some blood work done and everything is fine. I take vitamins and drink milk thistle tea and try not to worry. I believe that what you fear the most will come upon you. So I will continue to live the way I have not worrying. | Comments: | I am a 23yr old mom of 2 and a nursing student. I found out that I had Hep c when my second child was born. I will never forget that day my doc. called and left a message saying that I needed to call her back right away. I was worried that there was something wrong with my baby but when I called her back she gave me the news. I cried for days. my first concern was if my children had Hep C I was told that if they did there was nothing I could do about it untell they where 18 so I never had them checked. I went through the interfron treatment for 9 months after the first 6 months my virous count went form 44000 to 0 this was great news. I thought tomyself now I can see my childrens children and so on. three weeks ago I went back for my 6 month fallow up and got bad news my virous count is back up to 32000. I try not to think about it a whole lot. and hope that there will be a cure one day. It will be five years in aug that I have been sober. I gess we all have to pay for our mistakes. |

Went through the interfron treatment and things improved greatly.For the past 2 months I have had a continous cold that can't get rid of, staying extremely tired all the time,and generally feel like crap. I moved to a different state and have not been to any Drs. in my area. Went to a dr. here and he just wanted to treat me for deppression instead of even checking to make sure I haven't become active again. How do I locate a Dr. that has enough sense to help me? |
