 In early 1980 my father passed away suddenly at the age of 57 and ten days later I was divorced. It was a sad time, but when the 1980 team won the gold and I got to stand on the Nicollet Mall cheering them as they drove past it was like God was saying that things will be okay. Thanks to the Brooks' family for keeping this spirit alive.

 I think this organisation you have here is a god thing, as an inspired hockey player, i look upp to the 1980 hockey team. This year for history i chose too do herb brook,for his actions and legacys. i think personsonaly he is a legend, he created a bunch of talented young men. And not only a team. a family. I always think of "the name on the back is more important than the one on the back." as something true. we unfortunately have no time for hockey. al though this unfortunate obsticale still doesn't stopp me from playing this sport. i love it with a passion. and play every chance i get. i still think herb is great. i look up too all the great men he made men and true hockey players. to have them play "with their hearts" thank you again for creating making hockey original.

Just a note about the bio. and tribute material on the website.
Why does everyone always omit any reference to Herb Sr.?
I had the honor to spend 6 years of my life in hockey to work alongside Herb Brooks Sr. at the State Fair Coliseum in St. Paul. Herbie was both the grandest gentleman and the humblest man I've ever known. He was also a pillar of the early Phalen Youth Hockey days. Why does Rube always get all the credit? Wuthout Herbie Sr. there would have been no Phalen Youth program.

 I had the pleasure to meet Herb on several occasions while attending Jr. and Sr. High with his son Dan in Greenwich, CT. Dan and I had become friends and I was invited on several occasions to attend the Rangers practices at Rye Playland and the games at MSG. I met players and had a wonderful time.  Miracle is my favorite movie of all time. I love the way Herb stuck with these kids and I love the way the movie portrayed that relationship between coach and team. I got a book from the library recently called the Boys of Winter. I finished that book within 2 days. it is about the 1980 hockey team. i cried. im only 15 years old and i already have the ambition of being the 1st ever goaltender for the Carolina Hurricanes all thanks to him.  While playing hockey at Minneapolis Roosevelt High School, Herb scouted my games and one day invited me to “walk on” and try out for the U of M. As fate would have it, I was injured and did not get the opportunity try out. Because Herb was a strategic thinker, a few years later, while coaching varsity high school hockey at Minnehaha Academy, 1979-81, I sought his assistance for our penalty killing line. Needless to say he solved my issue. Shortly following the “Miracle”, I graduated from seminary and was asked by my younger brother, Mark Hultgren, who ran the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament Banquet, to give an invocation and to pray before the meal. At the head table I was seated next to Herb Brooks. He looked at me and smiled, reached out his hand and shook it. It was from then on that Herb Brooks referred to me as, "The Rev." I loved him and will miss him. I trust he is in heaven and smiling still as the miracle of the game of hockey continues to be a blessing is so many other lives.

 I was 9 years old when the Miracle on Ice occurred. I was "fortunate" enough to have come down with pneumonia right when the games started, and was home sick from school the entire Games. I saw every one of the games that were televised. My family was a "hockey family", even though up that point only two of my older brothers played ice hockey. I played later on. Now, I still play, and my boy is 3, and I hope to teach him why this game of hockey is so special. Just as Herb would have done it, for the love of the game. Herb always has been, and will always be, one of my biggest inspirations, in hockey and in life. "Helmets off" to you Herb - forever The Man!

 In my mind, Herb Brooks is a true hockey legend - one of the greatest sports heros of our time. He is truly missed and I know his legacy lives on.

 Hello, I visited Lake Placid recently and thoroughly enjoyed seeing where the Miracle on Ice occurred. I was wondering if someone could post a picture of the team and a caption with the names so I can see what they look like today? Enjoyed the photos on the site but with the exception of Jim Craig and Mike Eruzione -- not sure who anyone is. Great site.

 i have seen the movie miracle and i am Over extracting 20 times. it is the best. i was around during the early 80s but i love the story of herbie and the 1980 us hoskey team and how they are. i live in florida were hockey is the biggest thing but i love the movie. i recommend the book the boys of winter by wayne coffey it is a really great book. i couldn't put the book down.

 Hi Kelly, Patti, Dan. It's me Michael Finch and I am the boy that wrote the book about your father Herbie. I met Kelly and Patti back in April, 2005. I played hockey for 1 year in 2005/2006. It's now 2007 and I skipped a season cause I just felt like I needed a break. I just wanted to say I'm gtting back into it alittle bit and am watching the Karl Malden movie Miracle n Ice which was made back in '81.

After watching the 1980 Olympics’ I started reading everything I could find about coaching youth hockey. I am now a Level 5 USA Hockey Master Coach and I currently coach a varsity high school team here in Georgia with the Georgia Student Hockey League.
