| Comments: | Just discovered the site. Will know more about it later and could perhaps comment then. I enjoyed reading the postings, and it is apparent that most do not know about this region (Pommern, Silesia, etc). I am an amateur genealogist and historian. I know a little and would be glad to share it. Suffice it at this time to state that the Prussians were beer-drinking warriors who would rather go to war than accept anything less than what they wanted. I remain almost a full-blooded Prussian today, and my great-great grandfather Carl Penke was killed in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866. I can respond in English or German, but my German ist "nicht sehr gut!" |

| Comments: | I am looking for our family property. I would like to get it back for the entire family. Since there are many of us in the United States, I dont believe we are bound by any of the German Polish laws. Poland was always a very small country. It has increased its size and Germanys expense. In each of the Welt Kreiges. Its that property that Adolf wanted to get returned to Germany, East Prussia, the Polish Corridor was to be open to German Trains running on a diplomatic track. There wouldnt have been a war if that liar churchill hadnt told the Poles we will save you. They could not more save them than fly to the moon at that time. I will have to go to the family home here in the states and get the old letters and postcards to find out were they were. This area seems to have a lot of names that end in KE. Does anyone know what that means on the end like that? |

I have that side all down and can trace that back to the 1500's. I on the other hand know that we came from the outside of Berlin and my grand father was from Prussia and was a cosak and we came over here about 1915-1918'ish. I guess I come from a line of German royal's which has been done away with for about 90 years now. I am going to look about this site more, I like this site thanks...

Don't know the name of the ship they travelled on, the route they took from their homeland, and where they initially landed in the Americas. Any information on the Zadow's would be much appreciated?

| Comments: | Greetings Mr. Fehlberg:
I am attempting to discover the origins of a distant realtive, by marriage, who used the name "Arthur Gorsey" in America. Probably this was an "Americanized" version of his birth name. Perhaps with you knowledge of Eastern European genealogy, you may have some thoughts or suggestions as how best to proceed in this search? Little is known about Arthur Gorsey's birth place and early years, except that he was probably born ca. 1865, and came to America ca. 1885, at the approximate age of 20 years. According to family oral history, he came from a prominent and well established family, but was given only one week's notice to leave his homeland. His U.S. Naturalization papers which he submitted in 1890 and 1896, list his country of origin as Russsia. However, different U.S. Census reports give his place of origin as Prussia, Russia, and Germany. In all cases where his "mother tongue" is recorded, it was listed as German. My knowledge of the history of Eastern Europe (Prussia, Russia, Poland) is not strong. I am aware of the Expulsion Orders signed in 1885 which forced many no-German citizens to vacate Prussia. I am also aware of "Germans from Russia" - German settlers invited to settle in Russia by Catherine the Great. In the late 1800's, the Russian Tzar recinded the agreements by which these German communities had been permitted to speak the German language, educate their children in German schools, and worship in the churches of their choice. At the same time, the long-time exemption from military service for the young men was also recinded. A third possibile reason that Arthur Gorsey may have left when he did could be related to religion. There were pogroms carried in Russia in that time period. There is no indication that Arthur Gorsey was an observant Jew in America - in fact, he married in the German Evangelical Church of Seattle in 1893. However, some of his descendants speculate that Arthur Gorsey may have come from a Jewish community in Eastern Prussia or Western Russia. Thank you for any information or suggestions you may be able to offer in helping to solve this mystery. If it is easier for you to answer auf Deutsch, please feel free to do so. It is difficult for me to write in German. However, I can carry-on simple conversations, although my grammer is weak. I can also read simple German sentences which do not have too many compound words. Very Best Regards, Gary Larsen, Seattle |

| Comments: | I am certainly in awe of your site. I have been trying to find some info on my grandfather Heindrick Fredrick Ernst Ludwick Seebaum who I understood taught riding to the royal family in Berlin around 1890-1905. He met and married my grandmother Mahala Maude Bolter who taught music and studied at the Berlin Conservatory of music. At one point I was able to find my grandmother's name in the archives of the conservatory but now I cannot find that info. I also am unable to substantiate info on my grandfather but I believe he may have been from Hanover. I have spent a lot of time searching your site. Many thanks for such a wonderful place to search. Also SCHWENNENZ in Germany, also the Stettin area. Because I do not have access to church records from these places, prior to 1870 ( eg.Morman-FHC microfilm), understanding they have not yet been filmed, how do I proceed? Are their other search routes to take? Thank you for your wonderful contribution to those of us with Pommern heritage and history. |

My mother is Waltraut (Fehlberg) Tymon, her family left East Germany in the mid 40's. I know very little about the family name as my mother speaks little about the war. (She was about 14 yrs old when they left their farm.) She is from near a town that was called Marienwerder. It is very hard to find any type of East German map here in the USA between 1920 and 1946. Thank you, Best regards, Michelle Tymon P.S. You look very much like my cousins Harold and Roger |
