On October 11 about 2 pm our stupid neighbor across the alley had been illegally burning, using accelerants and other toxins.... the wind whipped up and started a fire on his fence, etc. The fire could have burned down our whole neighborhood... Neighbors, including my husband Jack, (all Hero's) put out the 16 foot or higher fire of flame and thick black smoke. Jack was up close throwing buckets of water on the base of the fire per his Navy training, to save the ship. It took the firemen 20 min to get here. Jack's face had lots of black smoke on it.... He was scheduled to go to Ft. Miley VA Hospital in San Francisco on the 22nd and instead was sent from our local VA Clinic to St.Joe's ER in Eureka. He was pronounced dead at 11am (31 Oct 08) this morning... His girls were there and all I could do was keep singing "I'll see you in my dreams, hold you in my dreams. Someone took you out of my arms, still I feel the thrill of your charms. Lips that once were mine, tender eyes that shine, they will light my way tonight. I'll see you in my dreams". I am and always was very stricken by those who were killed in Viet Nam. Richard McNabb was a good friend of mine. We played on opposite softball teams at Sparks Park prior to both of us going in the military. He was a true human being. Good luck to all of those who are still fellow travelers. |

Im sorry to say that Im not in the 68-year book; I missed the senior pictures (long story). I believe Im in the 66and 67books. My brother Oliver Brown graduated in 67. Oliver married Margie Tanner in '70', and tragically he died of cancer in 71. My brother S. Ray Brown graduated in 66, and he just retired. We lived at East 6th Avenue and 37th Street. I attended the 10th reunion held in Miami-Springs, but none since. I love to look at the pictures of all of you. I graduated in 1966; our class lost some of our brothers during Viet Nam (John Berrios, Richard Chamian and...?) and some of us came back to carry on with life in the USA! I settled in Tallahassee, went to FSU and afterwards settled down and started a family. Ironically, my daughter just graduated from UF (our baby Gator)! I have a favor to ask anyone still living in Hialeah/Miami area; do you know the whereabouts of Yillian Castro? She attended Hialeah High and also graduated in 1966 (see yearbook.
