This is one of the most beautifully designed websites I've ever been to...and very spiritual, ethereal even.
It is a great thing you are doing for those of us who have lost one...it helps to ease the pain in reading others' wonderful tributes.

We lost our Canty boy today at the age of 28. He was a happy senior up until this weekend when things suddenly went very wrong. The Doc was out to see him a couple of times and we ended up deciding together that a dignified, painless rest was the best choice. The agony I feel is overwhelming. Canty helped me through the roughest and happiest times of my life and watching my 3yr old bond with him the way I had filled me with such joy. He was a gentle, very loving Peruvian Paso and he taught me so much about myself. Thank you for creating such a beautiful site that allows us to share our grief and beautiful stories about our Equine family members.

A fantastic site.
I thought I was the only one suffering the bereavment of my beloved horse, too soon,so unexpected. It really does help to know that you're not the only one. Everyone has their own individual story, heartbreaking as most of them are. I came back onto the site tonight as I thought I was "hardy" enough to read all the stories,I don't think you can ever come away without shedding tears. I was particuraly upset tonight, looking at the memorial I did for Ben,tomorrow is his first anniversary but nobody really seems to understand what that means to me. To all of you out there that have suffered the loss,my thoughts are with you. And I lit the candle,in his memory, unfortunately I cannot afford the picture by the horse artist,it is a lovely idea and forever would be a keepsake of the "Loved and Lost." But if we can keep all those memories, forever. Think of all loved and lost (Especially those who were still babies really.) Ilona.

Thank you so very much for your website. It has given me comfort. I adopted "Sonny" and rescued him from neglect and abuse. He was in very bad shape and was age 23. He passed away June 18, 2008 in the pasture he loved. I only was able to know and care for him for about a year and a half. He was truly loved and is so greatly missed. "Sonny's" hoofbeats are now fast and strong in heaven.

I just lost my horse Rosie of 28 years on Saturday, May 31, 2008 due to colic. She never showed any signs of colic until it was pretty much too late. The vet left me with some sedatives to make her as comfortable as possible. I tried in vain to get her to Pioneer Vet Hospital but I lost her in transit. It wasn't until two days later when I spoke to to barn owner, that the vet told her she was in the end stage of colic & there was no return. (The vet couldn't even tell me that when I spoke to her to let her know that Rosie did not make it). Rosie made the decision for me when she passed away. She didn't want me to have to make the difficult decision. I have seen many animals have to be put down as my uncle was a horse trainer & had to put down many animals. But to open a trailer door & find your horse gone, hurts so bad. She picked her day. That was the same day that I was having a "Celebration of Life" for my uncle Bill(the horse trainer that trained Rosie & gave her to me) as I lost him in April of 2008. I just see her & Bill out riding under that shade tree with Rosie relaxing & Bill having a beer. I know she is in Horse Heaven looking down & telling me not to worry, she loves me as much as I loved her. Laura Fenton, Antioch CA

Cindy - what a fantastic site. I lost my big beautiful Irish Draught horse Bosun on 30th Aug 07 and I still miss him every day. I read the site regularly and it brings me to tears every time. How special these beautiful animals are, how priviledged are we to be allowed to have them as our loving companions. I have a new horse a 6 year old British Warmblood called Bailey who will never replace Bosun but who is helping me to carry on. This site is unique, long may it carry on.

Cindy~ you are a wonderful person and I cannot commend you enough for this beautiful site you created. We shared before, and it seems we still walk on common ground. Bless you and I pray that you are well.
I finally bought another horse and would love to add his picture sometime....somewhere. It goes to show one can conquer mountains in small ways. God Bless~

I've lost SO many pets over the years, but the only equine that I owned was a shaggy Shetland, grey with a dorsal stripe! He was rescued, and I loved him like crazy!! When he passed, a part of me went with him! This was back in the 70's, but I never will forget him!! He was called "Ruffian" (rough life!) and I "officially named him "Chico's Ruffian Moreno". I've worked with many horses that have gone to the big meadow in the sky, and I miss them all as well. RIP all of my animal friends...

This is a lovely web site,i cry when i read other horse lovers stories of ther loved ones, i to recently had to put my best friend to sleep( LAD),he was 29years old and was a part of my life for 22 years inwhich i enjoyed everyday with him, he was injured at the age of 14 with a shoulder injury so he became a pet, i fed him twice a day and he was always there waiting for me and always let me know if i was late with an impatient whinny, 15 years later, his shoulder was getting arthritus and from his knee down had started to twist from what we think was a bone chip in the knee that had calcified, the hardest thing was he looked great he was not like an old horse as he was in a special padock with five other old horses which he stood out in as he was in great condition, very alert and very much full of life but when winter hit he was finding the cold hard and he was tierd as in a way he had lived in a certain amount of pain since his shoulder injury which never healed(nerve damadge sweeny)so i reluctantly made the decision to have him put to sleep (june 18th 2006), i would of kept him going forever but i had to think of him not me,so the vet came she was lovely, she sedated him first , he stayed standing until she had finished giving him the last needle, then she and my partner held his head and he slowly went to sleep, very peacefully, i stayed with him for an hour or so saying goodbye as i knew it would be the last time i would see him, my friends husband buried him were he would lie in the sun for his snooze during the day,i made sure my partner covered him up with a huge blanket that i had from head to hoof as he hated to be dirty and i could not stand to think that he would be dirty at his final resting place ,he had three white socks and a spanner or question mark for a blaze ,and he was always spotless, he was chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail, 15 hh ,arab quater horse type, there is not a day that goes by that i dont think of him, and i hope that he forgives me for having to do what i did as he loved life and was always a happy boy, but it dose come down to the quality of life i know that. Hope you dont mind how long this is once i started to write it down i could not stop.

This site has helped me so much. I had to say goodbye to my baby boy on september 13, 2005. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. Gilley was very sick and I had to make the decision to have him put to rest. Ever since that day I have felt terribly guilty about my decision eventhough it was the best thing that I could do for him. Your site has helped me come to terms with my decision and it has given me even more faith that i will one day be reunited with the other half of my heart. My horse was amazing and he is greatly missed by all who knew him. In loving memory of my little boy who was also known as Andiamo.

On Thursday November 24th at 5:08am I had to set my beloved baby girl free. After 21 years of being together I am now lost without her. I feel such pain and half of my heart is now missing. Everyday is a struggle to face without my JB. I take some comfort in knowing that I was with her and holding her until the very end. I hope that one day the pain will be replaced with only happy memories.
Wonderful site. I don't feel so alone. God bless you and our beloved horses

It's been 3 1/2 years since I said goodbye to Nikki, and 1 1/2 years since I said goodbye to Annie, her full sister. Both died too soon, Nikki at age 4 to a trainer's stupidity, Annie at age 7 to a medical condition. I still hurt and wish I'd found your site sooner - I think it will help. Thank you. Lani

I had to euthanize my beloved 30 year old gelding, Thunder, due to colic and laminitis. He was my friend for 23 years and it was the hardest thing I had to do in my entire life. I still am grieving and my heart is broken.

The hoof beats of our friend Gifford Perceival McNasty are silent today. He left us yesterday to run free in the clouds the result of a brain aneursym. He was with us for 14 years, a hero to the end, he did tricks for kids and for non believer adults. He bowed, he gave kisses, he retreived buckets and passed them around the crowd for a collection of treats. He grinned for a gummy worm or a carrot or a Payday candy bar. He was my dearest friend, shared my saddness with a nuzzle on the cheek , shared my joy with a grin and a kick, head butted me from behind when i stood too long and talked about horse things. He was the artful dodger, always looking for a deal and a way to get what he wanted. He did western pleasure, English pleasure, jumped was passable at trainging level dressage and he was above all my partner. We had a contract, if i didn't violate the terms of his contract, he didn't dump me in the mud. I know that he is telling the others whereever he is today that he had a better wardrobe than most people, always pleantly of food, a clean bed in a warm barn, a big pasture to share with his 6 buddies. He was black, 16 hands and an elegant gentleman. When he could no longer stand at dawn on Memorial Day he put his head in my lap, grinned for one last carrot, ate it and told the vet it was ok he was tired and needed to go. We will miss him until we see him again and we know we better show up with gummy worms.

I am looking through tears thinking about my beloved Lily, who left earth january 21 ,2005.she was my compaion of 23 years and my greatest loss in my 60 years. Thank you so much for this site. I lost my horse yesterday and I am lost in my grief. I have found comfort here with others who also understand the strong bond that ties us to our equine companions and the pain of breaking that earthly bond. I will miss him everyday.

Thank you for such an inspirational site. We are blessed to have a wide variety of animals to love but sometimes this also adds to the number of beloved animals that we lose. Your site helps to ease some of that pain. Many blessings from the miniature horses, donkeys, deer, lamas, emu, cats, dogs, and the goose at T Bar T Miniature Horse Farm, Home of 4 National Champions.
