| Comments: | I was the Bad Boy Commander back in Sep '99 - Aug '00. Just seeing those pics bring back old memories up in the Hill. I remember the black road conditions during Jan - Mar. Also the water not working. Climbing up the tower drinking our brew. Hitting golf balls off the bunker by the side of the DFAC. Snowboarding out the front gate to the sandbags. And there's more. But great site, I got to look for my pics and get them posted.
Thanks SSG Lalau (back then) |

| Comments: | Hi to everyone on top of the hill. I just turned 60 years of age, and belive me some of the best times I had were on that mountain. Pocker and DRINKING all night, listening to Pop (The Korean Cook) and looking over the sides hour after hour.
Visiting the hootches on the side of the hill and mostly just bullshiting with some of the greatest guys in the world. Sgt. Wilson was the site cheif, and we even had a Ute Indian from the southwest. If you gave hime wiskey, go hide because he got crazy. If anyone has any pictures of the hill, please send email them to me, I lost everything when I got sent to Nam. If you're on the hill now eat it up, because its the best duty in the world. |

| Comments: | I was stationed on the hill from Nov 97-Sep98 with SFC Jualin and Sgt Rose. I was fortunate enough to build sandbag walls and redo the sand bags in the fox holes, as well as design our "horse shoe" pit. The monsoon of 98 tore the road out and I spent a few nights with my truck waiting for parts as the rest of the site helped clear the road so I could get the truck up the hill and PCS. I still have a ton of pictures of the rat we caught as well as the flood and other site pics. |

| Comments: | I was a mechanic for B 122 SIG at Camp Casey in 1991 and used to go to 754 to do services on the rat rig hummers on top of the hill.
I remember having to use the foot brake and park brake to keep my service truck from rolling back as a cable dog opened the gate for me. After a drive up and down 754 the OB beer at the Lone Star in TDC tasted so much sweeter. 122 SIG! VOICE OF THE WARRIOR, SIR! |

We did lose a 2 1/2 at one time with one of my buddies after a long stop in town, no one hurt! After a while I was transferred to Camp Stanly Dial Central Exchange (DCO) for the rest of my tour 4-months. My nick name was (BJ) during my tour. From the pictures taken of the town (TDC) things sure have changed! After leaving Korea, I ended up with the 101st Airborne Div. and went Air Assault. As you can see by my email address, I work for a city in California as an Officer in the Code Enforcement Division. Again, I want to thank all of you who put this site together, it brought back a lot of memories of when I was young. LOL

It always sucked holding that damn thing on the hill while you waited for the gate to be opened. I have no idea how i ever turned that thing around with a generator in tow to come back down the hill. Always had a ball on top of that hill.
Thanks for posting the info. |

I was stationed at Casey next to the west parade field at B Co 127 Sig Bn from March of '67 to May of '68. I was a 31M20 but was assigned to drive the battalion commanders (Fox and Federhen). I didn't spend any duty time on Hill 754 but drove the battalion commanders up there a few times. I don't remember any road to the top, only the river bed and a washed out trail with huge boulders and ruts big enough swallow my jeep. To all you old 7ID vets: "Go Bayonets!" | Comments: | I was on the Hill in the winter of '62/'63; during my time there we had the Cuban Missle Crisis during which Battalion told us if hostilities started we had fifteen or twenty minutes; we asked, fifteen or twenty minutes for what; Battalion said, "...to kiss yer ass goodbye cause th' gooks'll be swarmin' all over you."
Highest grade on the hill was Sp. 4 and there were only about five of us plus the Korean cook/launderer. Also, a 'newbie' recruit was on guard duty one night and shot a slicky boy in the diesel dump; I had to guard the body til the Korean MPs, US MPs, various bigwigs from both armies/governments made their way up the rutted dirt road from Camp Casey. It took several hours back then, even during daylight. Nice to see there's a site for the old Hill; thanks. Regards to all vets, Duncan |

I certainly was a great duty station and was one of the best I had when I was in the Army. I remember the ice storm Sgt. Canada was talking about. That was a pretty wild day! The OE-254's broke in half and only the bottom potion of the cones were still there. We had to take them down in windy, freezing cold temps. However, we did have the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders come up, so it wasn't to bad. I still have those pictures from the time I was on the site, so if anyone would like me to email them, just let me know. |

| Comments: | Rememebr that hill so very well. Most of my time was in the comm center on Casey from August 71 until Septemeber 72. It was the start of my lifer times in the Army. I retired as a 1SG selected for the CSM academy. Of course if all was known about my days in Kores, I would more than likely be serving in Kansas yet today :) Drugs, booze, the vill, race riots, and whores made it a survivial course. I grew up in that country and very thankful to some of the older Soldiers keeping me on the straight ad narrow. The 1SG of A Co, 122 Sig was a huge bastard named Hydell, reject from Infantry. Hated us signal types, so we rattled his cage daily. The marijuana was so bad in the barracks that he requested we smoke it outside. So for all you guys who recall the days, thank God that you are reading this.

I was there in 1964-65. Lot of change ssince then. Thinking of you and how you are spending Christmas this year. Hopefully the doughnut dollies will be there on Christmas day. I left a bottle of coke on the frig in the mess hall. Probably long gone by now. There was a Korean family that lived right outside the compund. The father cleaned the mess hall. I'll never forget the look on momma sons face when we held Christmas for them. In 1965 we collected $125 to buy them gifts. They got food, toiletries and toys. What a day. And then they had lunch with us. Those kids ha deyes as big as saucers. You all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. My nickname was "rink" |

I wonder if the barracks still flood every time it rains? Does anyone remember the "Green Weenie" (122's officers' hooch, when the battalion was housed in quancet huts and plywood boxes)? I'll bet that some local farmer acquired the lumber from the GW for an addition to his home and still paints it sickening lime green. Does the farmer outside the 122 motor pool still burn dog hair on Monday during Command Maintenance? What ever became of "Pancake", that flat little C. Company mascot who was run over by one of the new M1A2s during that alert? Does anyone remember the A Co. staff sergeant who inspired their Company battle cry "WAR EM TAE" by embroidering it onto his commander-mandated, un-funded, but unauthorized PT uniform? Outstanding initiative and creativity, Sergeant! (Even if you're not "cixelsyd", you should get it). | Comments: | Hi Guys I was stationed at CP Casey C Co 127th Signal Bn,7th Inf Div 1975-76 worked the Camp Casey Switchboard as a telephone operator. SFC RAY was NCOIC they got short of personnel up at Camp Kaiser (Un Chon Ni) Spelling. so I went up there for about 6 months. never got the chance to go up on the hill during that tour but I went back to Korea ten years later in 1976-77 and was with C Co. 122nd Signal Bn. and my bunk was in the same hut and spot as where the platoon Sgt desk was at this second trip. Nothing had changed except A Co had new brick barracks. My Second tour I did not have a slot so they made me the unit Reenlistment NCO, so I got to go up to the hill but I rode in stile with the Col when he got a chopper to take him up, he would let me ride along to talk with the guys up there about Reenlisting. On my second tour one certin YoBo from the frist trip who also worked!!! I mean done buissness at Kaiser took me back up there and the compound no longer had US Soldiers. it had been turned over to the ROK Soldiers. Just before I left Casey the second time they were erecting new H Huts Pre-Fab type buildings. not the old gomer Pile type like most of us stayed in.... LOL.
Boy when it comes to Hill 754 talk about isolation, any guy that spent a tour up there and went home with all his faculties I say hats off to them...you guys were special P.S. I have been told that All US Soldiers are South of Soul no soldiers at Casey anymore....guess the Nuke or Nukes that the north clames to have has played a part in the army moveing all the troops down south |

I noticed that you guy now have a pool table, all we had bunk-boxes to play pocker on and we played night after night , even with IOUs, and drank gallons beer and wine. SFC RAY was my first NCOIC, but he retired to go to work for Bell Telephone in Seoul, and SSg Stovle (SMOKE)took his place. Some member names were Bob Blankenship, Jerry Shirley, Cheif, Corky Owens, Jim Wilkenson, and alot of other great guys. The village was fun when we came off the mountain. I was on the mountain when one guard shot another one in the arm, just horse-playing. We built the first shower out of a 55 gal drum. I was slow but it worked. |

| Comments: | I visited Hill 754 several times in 1970-1971. I was its OIC during that time. It was a great place, but had its hardships too. I remember yanking the General's chopper from under him so that we could send up rations. The weather had been terrible that winter and they had not officially been resupplied for over a month. I know that everyone up there had a great time and actually spent the night up there for a Hill 754 party one night. Anyway, it is a great site. Thank you for sharing it. |

I was stationed there in 1991, Charlie Co did 90 day rotations back then, only the most "squared away" soldiers were picked from the company to pull duty up there, it was a reward of sorts like a 90 day vacation from the field as C Co was ALWAYS in the field, 7 days on and 3 days off was nice, I remember you had to score at least 230 on the APFT to get a "warrior pass" which was a card that allowed you to leave Camp Casey to go "downrange" The 1st SGT would to take away your warrior pass if you f*cked up or were late for formation. |

Watch this winter and see if someone goes out on that lake to the northeast and ice scates every day, we never could tell who it was. Do you still have that old pool table? that was our main entertainment. Anyway, glad to see your website, take care, David |

I think my favorite club in Tokori was Rosas Cantina I think was the name. I played base guitar with the Koreans in several of the Clubs both in Tokori and Tongduchon. I remember one night I was playing Proud Mary and right as I finished it up we broke out with some grandfunk railroad tunes. | Comments: | Wow, what a great website representing the equally fantastic soldiers who have manned the simple plot of land we all have become to know and love as Casey 39er!!!
Well, my time on the hill was from about 1989-1990 and it was the best years of my young life. As I read this message board, I have to admit that either my fellow warriors are a bit shy or else they are all in distant lands defending our flag, our freedom, and the American way of life, which means that I'll have the honor of introducing these defenders by myself. From top to bottom, we were lead by the fearless NCOIC SSG Ernest Hubbard, who is as solid as solid leaders come. Next, were the best NCO's on the 39er, who are the legendary Sgt. Michael Hernandez of Texas, Sgt. Ronald Meyer of Tennessee, and myself, Sgt. Bob Babcock of Hawaii. The hardest working E-4s in the division were Spc. Scott Tenyeck of Ohio, Joe Whitehead of Alabama, and Spc. Wayne Amos of Arizona. Of course, our brave PFC's were the honorable Mr. May, Bracey of Chigago, and Brown of Florida. If I have missed anyone, feel free to correct my errors. As I bring this note to a close, it is with upmost urgence that I want to emphasize to my fellow 39er soldiers that you will always have an old friend at AieaBob@msn.com, and that my prayers are with you all defending our flag and way of life. God bless you!!! Sgt. Robert Babcock |

| Comments: | Awesome site. Thank you. I was on the hill in 1971. That's me in the Indianhead newspaper article. I had some of the most precious memories of my life from me time on the hill. Also some great pictures that I'll try to get to the webmaster so he (or she) can put them on the site. I'd put my e-mail address on this but I get enough junk mail as it is. If anyone wishes to get in contact with me, post on this guestbook as I'll be checking in periodically.
By the way, we also had a dog. His name was Wolfty. Great guard dog. Also, I marked Hill 754 (I think it took hold) on Google Earth if anybody else has downloaded that program. Thanks again, Carl |

| Comments: | Was nice to see a web site about 754. Stationed there twice as a Sgt. in 1976, on second enlistment. (out for 3 years) Would be nice if they had a site like this for the old Army Stratcom that i was with in 1972 on top of New Richmond down by Taejon. I think First Signal brigade took over for Statcom after I left the first time. Army took a stripe a way for every year iI was out., so went back in as an E-2 in "75".
Used to walk down 754 every 4 days, but only walked up it twice. We lost a water truck, damaged a jeep and a bulldozer within 3 months while I was there. No one killed thank God. Road was not Paved then. Used to make paper air planes out of comic book pages, and throw them off the side of the mountain. Sometimes they would catch updrafts and we would end up watching them through binoculars for tens of minutes off of the northeast side. Played a lot of ping-pong up there also. |

| Comments: | Hi all,
I was on the hill from October 1970 until May 1971. We were a part of "Post Signal det. 127th. Signal Bn. I was there when the 7th Div deactivated and 122nd. took over. Boy did they try to mess the hill up. But never fear the Badboyz soon regained control. Back the we had 26 FM nets 2 retrans and 18 wideband relays running We also had on shot directly to the Switch building at Casey. We were using the old Trc-24 and Tcc-7's but were slowly converting to Grc 103's and Tcc 660's i remember the first shift I was on and the commo checks all went off at the same time.I was scared to death. but the other guy was a pro and I think that he answered every call both FM and the VHF in less that 10 seconds. A week later I was just as good. We'd party pretty hard on that hill. one time while we were off oading 55 gal fuel drums off the chopper one of the guys roled a full drum off the pad and through the houch that pappasan had below us. This guy didn't get upset at all but kept the full drum! Ha! Ha! He took our trash and sold up booze, drinks poggy bait, and other stuff as you guys all know. I've also walked the road to and from To-ko-ri many times. We would even go straight up the side of the hill rather that walk 10 times as fer following the road. We lost a mans hand on one snowy night he was putting a cable around a winching post and the duce and a half slipped it wouldn't have happened if he had not drank too many bottles of Slo-ju. Every one knew to keep your hands on the outside of the winch cable. Well, we got a chopper for him, but never heard from him again. Guess that they sent him back to the States? We had a lot of Koreans up on the hill then. They were civilian Guards and a KP and 2 Houseboys. The hut you call the NCO hut was where the Koreans stayed. The NCO's stay'd on one end of the long huche on top of the commo bunker. I won't talk to much about the other things that happened there except to say that there were times that there were more Females there on that hill than there were male. Every bunk was greatly over loaded I'll tell you. I Loved every minute of it, we took care of each other! |

| Comments: | I was on the hill from 1967 to June 68. I was there when they were pouring cement to make the radio room. We moved the radio equipment into a tent in the middle of the summer. I don't know how the radio equipment lasted but we had a lot of failures due the the heat. The flying bugs it the tent were the size of small birds.
I did not appreciate the Army (Nam)but I have been working in telecommunications since the Army, so it gave me a career. I meet some good friends on the hill, and the Korean people changed my way of thinking about what is important in life. My son has now been in the Army with the 82 ABN for 18 years and he will go to Afganistan in June. |

Well once again I find myself back in the land of the Morning Calm. Well it’s been a long time since I’ve been here last but those days on the hill are still fresh in my mind. My goal as soon ad I found out I was coming back was to get back on that hill. So who ever is there now I'll be contacting you soon? I served there in 94-95 with many of the guys that have posted messages on this site. One thing I haven’t seen or read about on this site was the winter sports? I know the crew I served with are not the only ones to take dinner trays from the Mess Hall and use them for sleds out the front gate. Just be sure and have some sort of plane for that first turn. Oh and one more thing for the current crew. If you guys have a dog up there, watch out for what ever reason they like to chew the Antenna cables. Trust me |

That was what we did for fun in the winter months. Go all the way to Casey grab a O.B. Beer and humped back to the top. |

| Comments: | It is so nice to a web page for Hill 754. I was stationed up there back 1985-1986. I have very found memiors of being there.
I was a PFC back then and was a 31M, bu I loved every second I was till Charlie Rock needed me back at company level. Back then we had a mascot too, his was "Casey" and was part of the K-9 corp. And Mr. G was one of our cooks, I guess he is no longer there. But it is really cool to see that the hill people are still going strong an keeping the re-trans running smooth for the DMZ. I have allot of pictures of there too. And it looks like like allot of things on the hill has changed. When I was there the road was not paved except for about 12 feet or so out the front gate. God bless you and stay strong |

| Comments: | Captain Eskola, Are all the soldiers on "The Hill" still from C Co? In 1993-1995, we were all in C Co and our commander at that time requested support from other units to help man the Hill (Which I thought was a mistake) And I'll tell you why. The camaraderie of "The Hill People" was unmatched when everyone was in C Co. With the exception of the cook of course. Also, the 93-95 crew did ruck marches on a weekly basis up and down the hill. Hang a right at the base of the hill, it follows a nice little stream then you hit a small ville.
A few more questions for anyone currently on the hill, Are those crappy 60k generators still up there? The ones that looked like they took out of a Deuce and leak really bad? How are you guys handling garbage these days? Still have the trash trailer? We used to have a covered trailer that we would connect to KC-39er Mobile (Our HMMWV) and make a trash run. It was much easier back when C Co was on Camp Casey, we could just dump all the trash there, after they moved to Red Cloud, we actually had to look for a place to dump it. Usually ended up being a dumpster in the nearest town. Oh, by the way, if you are still taking the garbage down, the first sharp curve going down was named Inmans Curve for a reason, Private First Class Inman tipped our trailer and trash on the corner, that wasn't fun to clean up! I was a Private First Class there, hoping to make it back there as an NCO someday! |

We are doing the Casey 39er Challenge this year in June to ruck to the top of the hill! Also, anyone know how the name Casey 39 came about? Is it K-C-3-9, old radio call sign? Thanks everyone. |

| Comments: | Hi,
I was assigned to the hill as a cook in 69 I think. My thirteen months there is mostly a blur. I was a young kid with a drinking problem. My memories that I can remember is good except for the heat, the cold and the rain. A few of the guys I was there with, Sgt. Wilson NCOIC,Leonard, Ennis, Marino, and a Piute indian who's name I can't remember. We had a Korean KP who did more cooking than I did we called Pops. There also was a guy named Nedvinsky? who married one of the girls on the side if the hill. I don't remember any first names and barely the last of a few. I'm real glad I found this site though. It brings back long forgotton memories. I happened onto it by chance, if there is such a thing. May God Bless Richard |

| Comments: | HOLY CRAP! So glad someone made a site for that wonderfull assignment. I was there 96-97 as a driver, and had a blast. One of my favorite assignments because it was a bit more "real world" than some of the other stuff I did in the army. Did anyone ever take the strip poker game off the computer up there? Do you still get away with smoking inside the bunker? Did anyone fix the hole in the barracks wall that "Remy" made with his head? ahhh the memories, Walker was the cook up there at the time, and he could cook ANYTHING. The only time the food wasn't so good, was when rations were short, and we had to eat "Yaki-Soba" (noodles and ground beef). What a great assignment. Still have my plaque on the wall

Also thanks to your site I found the E-mail address of a buddy I was there with. Wondered what happened to some of those guys. Over there you had to become brothers to survive. |

I just wanted to let you know that we actually started this a few years before the offical challange. The NCO in charge at the time was SFC Whallen (not sure about the spelling) and he challenged us to march up and down the hill with full battle rattle and a 45lb. ruck. SGT Armstrong, PFC Morrison and myself SPC McMichael was the first three to march down and up the hill. PFC Morrison and myself marched down the hill and back up in 80 minutes. At one time SFC Whallen had said that he was going to buy and plaque with our names on it. Does anybody know if it ever made it on the bunker wall? "Voice of the Warrior" "Go Gators" SPC McMichael |

| Comments: | I stumbled on this site when I wondered if there were any other 754 guys around. What a surprise to discover there were. I don't exactly fit in with you guys though. I was there 8/69 to 9/70 when the Hill was manned by the 127th Signal battalion of the 7th Infantry Division. Believe me, it was much, much better than Vietnam! When I was there, the road wasn't paved, just gravel. We had only one helipad and the M-14 hadn't been replaced yet by the M-16. There was no fencing around the compound and the normal means of getting back and forth from Casey was by foot. Like everyone else who has seen the mountain tops rising from the fog while on the hill, I am proud of my time there and will always have memories of 754 that only get better with time. |

I was at Camp Hovey (2/503rd Infantry) and we were pretty much at the base of 39er. We walked over the cut too many times...man what a hump. We could see it from the DMZ which was cool. We would think...gee our barracks is just beyond that "hill". Well thats about all, thought I'd put my two centsin. Huah to my fellow brothers that served in the ROK! |

| Comments: | I was in C Co 122nd Sig BN "Charlie Rock" in 91-92. I was in the BlueNode Platoon and spent many days on Casey 39er and had some incredible experiences. I remember the time we airlifted to the alternate helipad. The birds dropped the personnel off first and then came later with the equipment. We set up a tent prior to the birds arriving with our commo shelters and when the birds arrived, the rotor wash blew our tent up like a hot air balloon and we lost almost all of our personal gear. My buddy PFC McBratney made a video of it. It was one of the funniest things I ever saw. I also remember the time I was driving SSG Demus up the road to the top on a chow run when our vehicle's transmission went out and we ended up rolling down the hill about 50 feet until we were stopped by a deep ditch. It is great that you have this website. Keep it going. |

| Comments: | Man, what memories this page has brought back. I was at Camp Casey 122nd Signal C Co. or as we called it back then
"Charlie Rock" in 1983-84. Iwas in 4th platoon the relay squad. By the way, I now understand that Charlie Co. is in Red Cloud now, did they take the "Rock" with them. Do any of you remember the "rock?" In 1984 in April or May our 1SG had a huge boulder brought in and painted orange and black with the 122nd logo on it and then had a sort of veil around it that could be pulled back. It was opened up in the morning and the "rock" covered up at night. We even had a ceremony to dedicate the rock. The 2ndID Commander a Lt. Gen came and spoke at the event and even christened the rock with a bottle of the bubbly stuff. Best food that could be found was up there on that hill. Remember the stamp you had to have on your Military D.L. to drive up there. Man it got cold up there. To all of you who served in Charlie Co. God bless you all and has our 1SG use to say "You can't stop the Charlie Rock." Pray for our troops! |

| Comments: | Reading the emails brings back good and bad memories of Camp Casey--the place where I grew up as an individual and a man. I was stationed there in 1987-88 in the Med Unit (lab). However, most of the time I spent as a unit police down with the MPs. Most of my days were spent at the gate checking bags and IDs. What along time ago.
I used to dj at the Thunderbird. I brought alot of records and all my djaying equipment to the ROK and found time to set up shop at the Thunderbird Club in the ville. Mamasan gave me a free room for my troubles. Hence I missed a couple of alerts and gave up some rank on each occasion. I made some good friends in Korea and pissed off alot of people. I arrived in the ROK as an E-3 promotable and left an E-1. My CO said I was not going to ammount to shit especially after I cussed him out for his lack of balls and common sense. Well I did do well after leaving Casey--I ETSd straight from the ROK. What a way to leave. I went to school. I got my BS, MS, and Ph.D. I have been a psychologist for a number of years now. I manage several international projects on HIV/AIDS. Korea helped me actualize the strength that laid dormant within me. After Korea, I knew I had one option--that was to succeed. I look back at my time there and wonder what was it that really made me change. I asked the question out loud recently to a senior Member of Congress while we were having dinner. With a slight grin that communicated his empathy he said coming back home. He was right. To all who served in the ROK. Happy New Year and God Bless. |

I see old CPL Marlow in his post up top made SFC ... imagine that. I remember some wild drives up Hill 754 with Marlow as my driver. WTF Marlow, not remembering me!!!! I remember a monsoon wiping out that "freeway" .... nothing but helo's for quite a while ... during that time. Brings back some memories ... the bad boyz were certainly some of the best soldiers we had in the Company! |
