I had live in California for over 9 years.I just moved to Canada almost 2 years ago, and what I see is that the Latino Community is struggling to stand up for been reconized as positive part of this country.Instead, most of the Canadadia citizens ,and of course the Canadian goverment, keep putting us down,understimting our culture and insulting our intelligency. The first time a canadian call me "spanish" I didn't like it, and I told him "I'm not spanish!, I'm Mexican, I'm Latino!!" He showed no interest, he said , "aah..ok!" that showed me that they(canadian) do not care about of culture. I also found that there are some many "spanish" .This people do not stand up for their origen,they criticized the other Latinos specially if they aren't from the same country as them. If we want to growth strong as a community, we first should start by educating ourselves about our many positive sides of our origen ,We are "LATINOS", and you "spanish" are Latinos too like it or not, we are going to emerged, when? that depends in our pride and our dignity. Gracias for been there for us!

I am writing this message to say that I have read articles on the web that support Michael's comments (on this site) that mention how corporations are looking at a means of cheap labour and are getting access to this labour force through increased population levels and hence increased competition for jobs. Any people, of any race in this climate will work for less money and this is what corporate executives want. I am sorry to hear of all the stories of people who have encountered acts of discrimination against them. I think that for the most part, Canadians try their best to do the right thing but often how people were educated and exposure to a multicultural environment is a key factor and eliminating racism completely will take time. I also want to point out that everyone has preferences and bias towards certain behaviors. Such preferences are in part due to an inate tendency to gravitate towards people who emulate ourselves. This can be seen in how groups of people of similar backgrounds and socioeconomic status tend to live together and this familiarity promotes friendships. There was a newspaper article earlier this year (unfortunately do not remember which one) that stated that in Toronto only 3% of marriages took place between people who were from visibly different colors. This stands as strong evidence that racism or intolerance exists. Personally, I am concerned that using the term "racist" against someone can be used as a unjust protest when someone finds something about a person as an individual to their distaste that has nothing to do with their color. I think it is okay to be biased against behaviors eg. I despise spitting in public locations, loud voices, pushing and aggressive behavior. Finally, I want to state that I think that as a society we should aim for equality which means non-preferential treatment of all groups. This means that there should be no more groups catering to specific groups only eg. women only, minorities only etc..It also means that we eliminate the word "reverse discrimination" because there are alot of assumptions about who can and cannot be racist in that statement...and we should intermarry, live in the same communities and be more open with each other in general. |

HOW THE LEGAL SYSTEM TREATS INJURED WORKERS IN THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO Ms. Steward was employed at 3M Canada in London, Ontario for 31 years and was represented by CAW Canada. She began her employment in 1964. Ms. Steward was initially terminated from her employment on October 26,1994 due to her work related injuries. Her final termination occurred on June 6, 1995. Ms. Steward in her quest to obtain a remedy has been to the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Ontario Human Rights Commission, the General Divisional Court for the judicial review of the Commission's decision, Workers' Compensation Board as it was so named at the time, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (suit filed in 1999), and the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Ms. Steward recently commenced another suit against 3M Canada in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on January 7, 2004, alleging fraud, deceit, fraudulent misrepresentation and defamation of character. This suit too was dismissed. 3M Canada recently brought an application in the court requesting that Ms. Steward be declared a vexatious litigant pursuant to section 140 of the Courts of Justice Act. The application was heard on August 16, 2004. Based on the fact that Ms. Steward has been unsuccessful in every forum, one would reasonably conclude that Ms. Steward's case must not have had any merit. However, once you have read Ms. Steward's response to 3M Canada's application you will see that Ms. Steward's case did in fact have merit. | Comments: | One little coloured boy that I know first hand , well what was his crime , Perhaps being coloured and being a juvenile diabetic , htis little boy came down with diabetic because I feel he was given too many antibiotics as a child , his immediate problem was having to come to terms being a diabetic, his single mom takes him to his Dr, she feels that he should visit a psychiatrist ,I happen to know a very good one ,in fact three so if one can help surely the others could , well J... and Mom wnt to first appiontment Psychaitrist advises Mom he need s Ridelin plus intensiove help, , J,,, was so upset about meeting such a Dr that he was threatening to run away , on one of those occasions j,,, was upset ,mom following so called family Dr instructions called police , they upon consultation took wee J... away to youth jail, to meet thwe thrick cyclists [3] again , this time via police , J,, told me he was terrefied , he only being eight , the three psychiatrists [trick cyclists] immediately needled him sort of knocking the daylights out off him , mom surrendered J... to the care of so called Doctors operating this youth Jail Down Town Toronto Ontario Canada , According to law children must have legal representaion, to sort of protect them from criminals operating in the very vulnerable medical field covering children who are supposed to be our nations future????, J... legal representavis was very concerned while interviewing J... , this boy is smart articulate ,sound mind what gives here ,,, interview completed ,, legal representative drafted a legal letter stating that she was concerned ,why is this boy here,??? the trick cyclists retorted back stating that J... is no longer here gone to Hospital no longer here or coming back ,,, lies absolutel liars , they did this because I believe to get this Lady Lawyer off their back ,,,,
The trick cyclists went to work on J... giving him a cocktail that bewilders the brightest Psychiatrists in the United States ,even the makers of this huge cocktail claims ,,look this stuff is not for children ,who is giving this to children dont they know health canada sent out health warnings stating the hazars even to healthy people , even the F,d,a, in Washington sent out warnings to all Dear Health Care Workers Providers , but somehow nothing filtered down to J.. single mom . do you suppose they did not relly care simply because J... was black , many Dr new what he was being subjected to , even hospitals new because he landed up in one suffering s seizure from the drugs ,, J//.. was lucky to escape alive from the clutches of the so called trick cyclists opering in ontario screwing O,p,i,p each and every day , but most terrible are perhaps ruining the children they come in contact with.. I have pass't trough injustice because of the judges, police, and lawyers. All of them are roten. And the experience that i had made go very deep to find prouves of what is happening here in Canada. Montreal , quebec is the worst and lets not talk about the other provinces because they are going the same way too. The corruption is more powerful then the constitutional of Canada. All the immigrants are loosing there money because of this country, they took everything from them! And most of all we are working with insults , blackmail, harrasing, verbal abusing etc...and the goverment dont do nothing! I tried to talk to them explianing my situation but they put the silent code on me. But now all the prouves is going to the high commissioner in Genova! My brothers have pass't the same thing what i pass't and we are very disapointed of what is happening! AND EVEN THE HUMAN RIGHT COMMISSION DIDN'T HELP US. But at least the high commissioner in Genova knows what's happening to me and they respond, they are in the right department all my letters. | Comments: | I am a 37 year old man presently being targeted by the R.C.M.P. I have been investigated since 1999 for unknown reasons. I have had a troubled relationship with a neice of an R.C.M.P Chief in Alberta. I have been forewarned of imminent death unless I went along with a plan to sooth the desires of this neice because of feighned intents on my part. Not crimes, but intents. One of the forewarnings was about the use of "brain frying" drugs to be used on myself if I did not comply to the family's wishes. This family' connection within both the R.C.M.P and the C.P.Railway is costing my career and perhaps what is left of my sanity. The R.C.M.P have been entering my places of residence since 2000 and have been administering drugs into my food, clothing, everything I come in contact with. I have been threatened with death so many times by these people of the R.C.M.P. These drugs are at the very least mind numbing and may have caused me irreversible damage. I have had a torn colon as a result of contaminated food. I have been told by the emergency physician at the hospital that the next time I will have to have surgery to repair the damage. The R.C.M.P are killing me slowly and trying to make me go insane. This is not being done for what they may allege I have done, but rather what I didn't do, which was honour the agreement that John Foyle detailed out for me. This was the agent that came to me in September 2000 in Calgary, Alberta. We had discussions at a cafe over the course of three weeks which came to the ending result of me getting my career back and no longer having to endure police harassment if I honoured the Chief's wishes. Well, I couldn't take this woman into my life and I have been getting terrorized ever since. My interest in your informative site and others is to learn more about excepted policies within the Canadian Police, and what the people of this country are willing to except. I also want to learn more about these drugs that John Foyle spoke of and what lasting effects these will have on myself. I'm not sure if this posting will get to you because I am under round the clock surveillance and my computer has re-routers connected that may stop this from getting to you as other E-Mail of mine has been lost'. | Comments: | on wednesday the 4th at 3 to 4 pm, I had 4 police officers barge without permission into my apartment. They did not have any documentation with them. Two were municipal cops, two were OPP in suits. They were instructed to state their business on 3 occasions and they failed to respond, when they eventually did respond, after asking some questions such as:
1)Is there anybody else in the apartment? 2)Who is in the apartment? 3)Where are they? It was their intent to tear my apartment to pieces, there was no other reason for those exact questions and their method. Cops in this country are supposed to stay out unless invited. They are supposed to state their business when asked. If these were the only things I probably wouldn't do anything, but there is more. They stated their business and afterwards, I asked told them to either arrest me or leave now. I repeated my demands for them to leave, in not such a nice way (get the f*** out of my apartment, now). My father was in a room down the hall, he clearly heard me instruct the officers to leave, then he turned around a few seconds later and saw one barging right into his room. My rights have been violated, I have the right to kick these officers out of my apartment, which I pay rent to live in. They made the choice to stay, and for that I would like a full investigation into the incident, I will be contacting regulatory agencies regarding this investigation process to ensure that it goes in an unbiased fashion. Some further specifics: 1)A female OPP officer, obviously the one in charge, was used to distract me, while the other officers cased my apartment out, after barging into my living room uninvited. Just because I open the door to talk does not mean that they are allowed to just walk in. After they walked in, and were walking into my living room, I said sarcasticaly, "have a seat". Which they did not want to do. She was short and slightly heavy set, somewhat butch, had blond hair and wore a brown suit. 2)A male OPP officer, obviously not the one in charge, perhaps someone from a branch that has exposure to computers, in order to provide expertise as needed. He was nothing more than a quiet observer. He was tall, had brown hair, clean shaven. He resembled british actor rowin atkinson a little (mr. bean). He wore a brown suit as well (both suited officers looked to be wearing suits made of nice thick material, they were not cheap suits). 3)A burlington detachment, halton officer, the one who ventured into a room in the back after having been instructed 3 times to leave my premesis. He was short with brown hair, not as stocky as the other halton officer. He was clean shaven, and in normal uniform. His firearm was a good deal more noticeable than the other officer's, he plays with it alot even when it's secured in it's holster. 4)The final officer, again municiple from burlington detachment, tall, clean shaven face and head, one whom I recognized and had some interaction with in the past. He appeared to be the more controlling officer (amongst the two halton ones) in the situation. Furthermore, to fully address concerns with regards of my occupancy at 1305 unit PH5 ontario st. in burlington, I have attached a sub-let agreement made between my father and myself, which demonstrates that not only do I pay rent, that I also do in fact have been assigned a keycard and keys to all locked doors and mailboxes as an occupant. I can produce the document that entails whom these keys and access cards were issued to, this also demonstrates that rights to control access to that premesis were officially transferred to me, and is clearly documented. The officers had mentioned that since I was not listed on the lease that I had no rights to kick them out of my apartment, I told them that it doesn't matter, as an occupant and as someone that has been given access to the secured premesis, and as someone who pays rent and has an agreement for such. This moot point is merely an attempt to subvert the complaint process, and make things more difficult for me, as I've figured, I do not wholly trust people to review themselves, and as such my actions will be conducted accordingly to ensure that things are done in appropriate and timely fashion. I would also like to ask, since there was a reason for the officers to attend my location, what the department's policies are in regards to: 1)In person protests. 2)Mail protests. 3)Electronic protests. Also, I would like to know what the departments policies are in regards to: 1)Protestors who clearly spell out the end results of a protest, in that not only do the protestors lose their time, but the business (I will use the example of a boycott) responsible loses alot of clientel as a result. Would you arrest these people for "mischief" simply by stating their own personal belief in that protests do have negative consequences for all parties involved (is it really mischief informing people of the blunt reality of a situation)? 2)Since businesses can publish and re-publish email addresses and mailing addresses, as they see fit (even sell them to other businesses for the purposes of spamming), why is it that I cannot do the same? All this information is public domain, I believe I have the rights to give these addresses out even if it is for the purposes of spamming, which any network engineer will tell you can bring down entire networks. Ask the engineers who run hotmail what they think, they will confirm what I say. Not only were my rights to control who has access to my premesis violated, my rights to free speech and free distribution of public domain information has been violated as well. i was so overwhelming the way how cops are treating us. literally, they didn't do much search after we reported that she was missing...and they found the body of my stepmother not by investigation but by someone who saw the body... now, they were totally grilling us as if we are the suspect. i am so shocked and stunned the way how rcmp is treating us. i was thinking of the movie " hurricane" when a black person is wrong accused of murder and lived in a prison for a long time. i am really scared. they asked me and tried to trick me to answer their questions. but i wouldn't say all the cops are bad. cuz... that sounds like all minority people are bad. |

I was a specail needs school bus driver for over five years with the same school bus company Attridge transportation Inc,. Now any parnet who passagner who belives or trusts the school bus company to follow mandtory safety regualtion 35 federal and provincal laws and greatly mistaken. All l did was ask for help from my employeer Glenn Attridge for unsafe voilence on my school bus. the children were special needs never wear the seat belts opened the exit door fithing with each other in front of my when driving. thrownig running shoes at my head screaming crying jumping on the seat throwing objects at each other,but Attridge refused to give me some help to let me drive the school bus safety. this matter went on for months,until a boy 11 years old tried to throw a child out the exit door while driving home from schol.I began afraid what if something happened that l did not see this while driving. I called Attridge five times a day and called the Hamilton Board of education and they told me that they have no right to ask Attridge to give me help. No right there are hundreds of laws and reguklations with the school bus safety ministry of transportation the educatio depeartments. They all turned there backs to me. I had to call the Ontario safety board to do a safety check on Attridge. the safety officer found 39 safety voilation with Attridge and my compalint was voilence towards a school bus driver. Sure the safety board promised l would not be fired but quess what l was . So even the government allowed a school bus company to run each day with no health and safety committee for over 300 drivers. That is breaking the law Of course Attridge transporttion still has not a safety committee in full use as of yet but l was harased and discrimated against by the employeer the givernment and the minstry of education for protecting my stundents from harm. I am still unemployed because Attridge told all school bus companys about the safety board. Human rights What about the childrens rights on a Attridge school bus. please if any kind person is willing to help the safest school bus driver from the Stoney Creek Hamilton area let me know. |

The way to figure this out is to ask and answer these questions: Why are there slums in third world countries? Are there poverty and social problems in Canada? Why are you still stuck on racism when there are far bigger problems now? Problems that concern everyone who is not super-rich and powerful? We have to get past the racist thing. It is something which was provoked by the rich and powerful to hide what was really going on. That is, what THEY were doing to the ordinary people It is not the fault of ordinary people who comes to Canada and who does not. Slaves were brought here, as they were everywhere. And they still are. It just *looks* different now from how it looked in the earlier days. Almost everyone who works nowadays is a "slave." Most jobs are non-productive, and damaging to the society and to the environment. A slave is someone paid with either room, food, and board, OR with money, to do a job that his boss doesn't want to do himself. A slave is also someone who puts aside his better judgement to do an unethical or dishonest or exploitive job so that he can "support his family." All races are caught up in this. We have to stop biting each other. |

It is already understood bu us here that the judicial system has a different standard for the police. It is also understood that the same office that is responsible for the oversight of the police is also the very same office that is responsible for issuing letters to potential jurers. Obviously you are a cop! Obviously you have taken the same arrogant and ignorant line that your union boss tows. Unless you all recognize the problems and start to deal with them, you will find many sites that show the profound lack of trust and respect for police. It is YOU and the likes of people like YOU and Bromell and Fantino that have brought this upon yoursleves. It is not all criminals who feel this way, but mainstream and intelligent people. Stay in your arrogant denials and do nothing, but don't be surprised when you all find yourselves being prosecuted and sued for evils you believed you had gotten away with. Eventually JUSTICE will prevail, it always does. |

The police are getting away with too much brutality, and the govt. is letting them because it is easier that way. What we have is a frightened society. We are too scared to open our mouths anymore to say, or comment on, anything. The best way to fight it is to stop buying things we don't really need. We should pay off our debts and watch our money. Our impulse spending is what makes rich and powerful people just that... rich and powerful. If we can't protest anymore, then we can cut down on spending, and never, ever commit any crimes. I would love to see the cops with nothing to do. |

Constable Michael Pratt has been fined $2,000 and placed on 18 months probation. Constable Michael Pratt, a 10-year member of the RCMP, pressed the barrel of his gun against the temple of Dr. Kary Taylor, a black Vancouver dentist, during an ostensibly routine traffic check for a parking violation in February, 1999. The RCMP has allowed Const. Pratt to return to police duties.

Did you know... That Sacajawea’s people were exiled to the Fort Hall Indian Reservaiton after an executive order established the 100 square mile Lemhi Valley Indian Reservation by an executive order from President Ulysses S. Grant on February 12, 1875. The executive order established the reserve for the exclusive use of the tribes of the Agaidikas (salmon-eaters) and the Tukudikas (sheep-eaters) later known as the Lemhi-Shoshone Sacajawea’s People. Almost from the outset, however, the government and local residents began efforts to abolish the executive order reservation. They ultimately succeeded in 1905 and in 1907 the Lemhi began what many have called the "Lemhi Trail of Tears," when we were forced removed from our ancestral homelands to the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Banished from our homelands in 1907 and seeking to return ever since, the Lemhi-Shoshone people create a dilemma for the nation. As it commemorates the Bicentennial of the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery, the United States needs to reassess its commitment to the Lemhi people, to Sacajawea's people. The obligation the nation acknowledges toward wolf and salmon recovery efforts is dwarfed by the responsibility it faces in treating fairly the people who played such a crucial role in advancing the success of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. | Comments: | Discrimination isn't only happening in the Toronto School Board. It is definitely happening the Durham. The children are treated differently for the same incidents or the white children just get away with it all together.
I am a parent of children who presently feel that they are being treated different than the white children and at the elementary level, they just don't come up with this. They were either involved in a situation or heared things in the school. The have made comments like, "the teachers don't listen to anything the black kids say and only take the white kids work." Why do they do that? They are prejudice. In our home, we don't discuss race at all. I tell my children that we are in a world that has many cultures and that we are to all get along. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. I don't think that children in elementary should go through this and teachers need to address this issue. But all they do is sweep it under the carpet. I am a strong black woman who will fight for my children when it comes to issues of this kind and in which I have already done so. I will not tolerate it and far more sweep it under the carpet. It needs to be addressed and I will continue to be on the principal's back until this issue is dealt with. |

I need help on what to do about a case with my son, similar to that of Ryan Scullion, in that excessive police force was used. In short: Police called to party and told that offenders were causing damage to cars in the area and breaking bottles on road. My son, 17, and several of his friends had attended the party, but had left to repair a flat tire to a friend's car outside on the street. They were "not" the ones causing any damage to cars or throwing bottles on the street. Police pulled up, and my son ran into nearby woods as he had a beer in his hand. Police pursued him, asked what he was doing, he said he was just on his way home. Police handcuffed him, took out his wallet and rifled through it - to which my son stated they could not do that with several expletives. While my son was handcuffed (also - he was in a great deal of pain, as he had dislocated his shoulder only a few weeks ago, and told this to officers and that he would not resist arrest), because my son was swearing that his shoulder was in great pain, that he did not do anything wrong (other than have alcohol), and that they should not go through his wallet - the officers, of which my son says were 5 to 7, all threw him on the ground and kicked him about his face and body. The officers then arrested my son and took him to their cruiser, to which several of my son's friends witnessed his face damaged and bleeding, and that an officer slammed his face down onto the cruiser. I was called to be informed of my son's arrest and that I could go to get him. Upon arriving, one of the arresting officers told me that my son was acting violent, and had tried to push two officers down the stairs, and that they had to push him into a wall, which they showed me, and which was badly damaged. By-the-way, the damaged wall was about 12 - 15 feet away from the stairwell, and according to my son, when they were passing by the wall, he remarked to the officer that he hoped he would lose his job over kicking my son in his face - that's when the officer slammed my son's head into the wall, and my son said he almost passed out from the force. When I saw my son, I was completely shocked at his injuries - both his lips were severly swollen, and black and blue, cut and bleeding. His right ear was twice as big as his left, several obvious swollen and bruised lumps on his head, arms, and chest - he said they kicked him with their boots. My son also stated that he banged on the door of his holding room to ask police to get a hold of me, and and officer entered the room and immediatley slammed my son's head into the corner of the desk in the room. My son has been charged with disturbing the peace, and breach of probation, as he is on probation for a previous incident where he was involved with a paint-ball-gun that a friend of his fired. My son was released in a couple of hours. All in all, his father and I feel that for a slightly intoxicated 17 year old boy, to have the injuries that he has inflicted on him, just for drinking under age and using profanities, is totally unjust. We feel we have a terrible problem with our police force, and the officer who pointed out the damaged wall was trying to use that as to why my son's face was so badly injured - there is no way a shove into wallboard can inflict all those injuries, in all those areas. We have the "Resolving Complaints" pamplet from the Staff Sargent, and will complete it, but I want to do everything possible to bring this to light. I'm not saying that my son wasn't doing anything wrong, it's just that for what he was doing, verses the beating he took, something is terribly wrong. Can anyone please advise and help. "The Regis Society for the Understanding of PTSD in Canada" is unique in that it recognizes the obstacles which await anyone seeking help for their suffering in this country. PTSD is prevalent among people mistreated by the justice system here but is not recognized as a consequence of wrongful arrest or police brutality. PTSD sufferers in Canada find themselves being repeatedly arrested as police and hospitals are not equipped to recognize that rage, anger, or desperation could be PTSD-related. It is bad enough that rage and anger are not well-understood in our culture without punishing people further when they are in a sense "ill" or "sick" with rage. My employer has since sent me a record of employment stating I quit so I informed them to reinstate my job since that's not the case and they declined to do so. Although I never granted permission for this reference call to be made it was done and cost me my job as a result.

Last time there was a gun amnesty the police collected guns from law abiding, well meaning citizens and then resold them into the criminal market. Did eveyone forget that? Maybe it is like Fantino and his use of racial statistics years ago to persecute blacks, if anyone had dared to bring it up he would have had a temper tantrum and thrown them out of his office. While we are on the topic of remembering , does anyone remeber how Fantino persecuted homosexuals in London creating a paedophilac ring that never existed? Isn't it funny that last week the Toronto police willfully destroyed the investigation of paedophilic pornography. Did everyone miss the fact that it is now impossible for the police to pursue the names left on the list. Gee...was that big positive showing from the Scarborough freemasons repayment for ensuring that none of the "good men" were prosecuted for having pictures of crimes being committed to babies. What is really ironic is that although, clearly the Toronto police felt a need to protect the people on the list given to them by the FBI of people propagating and in posession of porn, they are chargeing a poor, mentally ill homeless woman with child abandonment. Fantino is a liar. The Judicial system in Ontario makes me sick. |

Good posting. The Human Rights Commissions of both Ontario and Quebec are nothing but a joke. It makes a paycheque for the people who work there. THAT IS IT. I had an incident with the Ontario Human Rights Commission where I filed a complaint on the issue of race. Do you know what they did? They asked me what my race was...!!! Is that racist, or what? When I asked why they would ask that of me, they replied by saying that if a person filed a complaint about a disability they would ask "what the disability was." The person who I dealt with was called Nathalie Rioux, the chief intake officer. She said that they had to check whether a person's disability was "genuine," or in other words whether they were actually disabled. I wrote back and told her that that was well and good for disabilities, but that EVERYONE HAD A RACE. I went further to say that everyone's race was genuine...! I also told her that I did not want to deal with an agency that clearly had an agenda. I told her that it was obvious that the OHRC was only there to deal with a certain kind of complaint. One's that the government picks and chooses for its political and international image. Talk about wallpaper...! Asking a person's race is the most racist thing anyone can do. The people who work there are absolutely brainwashed. It is as if they are working for a cult. |

I already expressed my views on these e-pages. I would like to ad here a few comments upon reading some messages. 1. The Ontario Human Rights Commission abuses and mistreats not only members of visible minorities but anyone who is poor and powerless (not backed by a union-paid lawyer, for instance). It is true though that at a certain period, the OHR Commission showed a particularily racist face (under the David Peterson administration as well as under the Bob Rae administration. Both administrations encouraged such racist practices and abuse of the poor and powerless through their refusals to do anything meaningful about the situation. Coverup was the order of the day. 2. The Office of the Ombudsman: It has been historically in an incestous situation with the Ontario Human Rights Commission. Bureaucrats in one agency move to the other etc.. Would you expect a bureaucrat in the Ombudsman's Office to jeopardize his/her own interest to defend you ?? 3. The Office of the Ombudsman itself is not above reproach. It can get into actions to subvert justice whenever it wants, with impunity. A section of the Ombudsman's Act allows the Ombudsman to dismiss a complaint basing such dismissal on "evidence" that a complainant has no will never see. Only the Ombudsman's Office can see... or imagine ! The Ontario Human Rights Commission as well as the Ombudsman's Office have power that even the judiciary does not have. When was the last time a judge has rendered a decision on the basis of evidence that is he/she can keep from the complainant or complainant's representative ? Furthermore, while the OHR Commission and the Ombudsman's Office can do it with impunity, the last time a judge had contact with the government (as defendant in a complaint) without the knowledge of the complainant, that judge was forced to resign. Bureaucrats of the OHR Commission and the Ombudsman's Office do not go to bat against the government on which they depend for their jobs and promotions. What is in it for them ? Integrity ? When was the last time a bureaucrat bought a summer cottage with a currency called Integrity ? |

It is not true that the OHRC treats only people of colour with disdain and discrimination. My own recent experience has led me to rename it the Ontario Homophobic Rights Commission (OHRC) or the Ontario Human Repression Commission (OHRC); in French, the CODP should read: Commission ontarienne des droits du perpétreur|policier (CODP). Please advise revictimised plaintiffs who had their cases thrown out by the OHRC that they can seek remedy through the Office of the Ombudsman. |

The citizens? No! Police perspectives on any citizen today, in present times is guilty until proven innocent. Judges in the court systems hold grudges against certain crimes that may have affected them in the past but may not be all that bad. I'm a youth. And youth today are seen as trouble-makers. Our school system is so afraid of this new generation of youth that they put guns into our schools (police officers). I'm really sick and tired of seeing innocent and generally good people becoming victims of police officers who are bored and have nothng better to do than ruin the lives of Canada's future generation of citizens. |

| Comments: | Aug 16,2002 my husband was beatup by some officers from 41 division. He had done nothing wrong for them too come too our home. We were just siting here talking too some friends when about 10 officers came too our door and started yelling at me whats going on here. I told them nothing just talking too some friends and at the time i was 7 months pregnet. So my husband came too the door too ask them what was going on why there were at our home. they said they got a call from someone. the person that called them has had at least 5 different people put in jail for no reason.The police wanted too all come in our 2 bedroom apt my husband said 2 of u can come in but not all 10 of u the police wouldnt hear of it so my husband went too close the door and the police pushed the door open and knocked my husband too the floor tied his hands and feet and started punching him in the back i told them too stop he is closterphobic they did not lisen too me they took him out of our apt and smashed his head into the wall the next day when i went too the jail too see him he had bruses all over him his eye was swelled up so bad he could barley see he still has no feeling in his thumbs the police say he assaulted them how could he his hands were tied and so was his feet they set his bail at $2000 for doing nothing wrong it just shows that dogs get treated better in the city of toronto then people my husband is in court for this trumped up charges now and this is only part of the story. |

| Comments: | I just wanted to write and urge everyone to start the new year off right with a new vision of democracy. Remember democracy is NOT guaranteed. We have to MAINTAIN it, like changing the oil in our cars, or mowing the grass around our homes. Democracy is not a RIGHT, it is a personal RESPONSIBILITY. It is something which the people give the government, not what the government gives the people.
<p> So speak out when you see something unfair. Post something on the ONHR page or any other page that deals with the growing "dictatorship" in Canada. In a lot of ways this is a dangerous place to live. The main problem is that everyone is brainwashed to think it is a great place. That is only because you can buy lots of stuff here. <p> The police are out of control. There are too many of them, and they have to make work for themselves with wrongful arrests, too many arrests, and an inability to be helpful. The act of being helpful is the main idea behind having a police force, but that is hardly what we have now. People who become police are, in general, arrogant and power hungry. They like drama and glamour. Yes, there is crime out there but it could be better managed, and actually made less, if there wasn't this war going on between the cops and civilians. Especially people who have been "screwed" by the cops. <p> Angry people do not make good citizens. All too often the justice system here just makes people more and more angry and they just can't get going again. They end up losing everything. <p> Speak out please if you have been hurt by injustice. There is far too much of it in Canada. <p> Take care. Always remember, there are people out there making BIG salaries out of your bad luck, mistakes and misery. So be squeaky clean, and smart.... |

| Comments: | Racism towards aboriginal people at all levels is discusting especially when it comes to Child & Family Services. They think their doing what is best for the family, however they are not educated enough about the aboriginal culture and have no understanding of their way of life. They should have aboriginal social workers taking care of the aboriginal clientele. This sickens me to see what their doing to these people.
Social Workers need to have more cross cultural training of the aboriginal culture. Only then, maybe they will see their way of life, their way of thinking and their teachings. I can go on and on, but will end it here. katia |

They showed great temerity in publishing what they know to be the truth, the Toronto police are corrupt and they are guilty of racial profiling. The union goons, in typical style are attempting to bring the newspaper to it's knees with a "frivolous, vexatious and made in bad faith" law suit for $2B. I would urge everyone who comes here to not only demonstrate your support for the Star but to tell two friends and tell them to tell two friends and so on. We know about the "Men in Black" some of us have seen them in action first hand and we know the bully tactics of the police union from Cherry Beach to Jane Doe to Mel Latman's wife...and so on...It was legitimately brave of this Newspaper to fulfill it's obligation to spread the truth at the risk of repercussions. We now owe it to them to demonstrate our support. Those of you who do not usually buy a newspaper...buy one. direct letters to
lettertoed@thestar.ca and tell them what it means to people that they have called it like it is without fear of the notorious Toronto police association's goon squad and war chest. One small thing..less than a dollar and maybe 5 minutes of your time. Counteract their psycho bullying tactics let them know that people are just not going to stand for it anymore. If they feel they have been "painted with a brush" well then they ought to try being a young black man in an expensive car in Toronto. Come on people...do just one small active thing. Here is my short story as a Canadian immigrant and a victim of harassment and discrimination in employment: I am a Canadian & Romanian citizen who immigrated in Canada together with my wife and daughter ten years ago. We lived in the past under Ceausescu’s communist dictatorship, and we came here with a great hope for our daughter’s better life and future, but this is not the life that we expected to have here. That’s because when I was attending an employment placement at the Ministry of Environment and Energy in 1995, it came to power Harris government – crystal clear against immigrants – which discriminated me in employment, and sent me back to an immigration agency to ask for help in getting a job because I was an immigrant on welfare at that time. In order to understand better my frustration, imagine that you are an immigrant on welfare and go to a job placement, and somebody (who is far-right extremist, and saw your resume) tells you exactly this: “it is not your fault that you came here, but you have to leave”. In addition, that person gives you a piece of paper with a name of an immigration agency telling you to go there if you want a job. Also, you see that a group of friends of that person treats you like an intruder immigrant and Romanian virus in their work place, and they harass you and do whatever they want to get rid of you. In other words, they are telling you very clearly that you are not welcome in their work environment because you are an immigrant and not Canadian citizen. Moreover, although you did a very good job, you received a very successful assessment and signed an agreement for one of four available positions, you get in the end a thank letter from the newly appointed Deputy Minister and you are redirected again to an immigration agency to ask for help in getting a job. It is an outrageous and woeful situation to see now that the same government pretends that it has created the Workfare program in order to help welfare recipients get jobs! If you would like to see my Canadian experience under Harris government, my case of human rights discrimination in employment, and other issues as my E-mail transmitted to Members of Federal and Provincial Parliaments, or my Communication to the International Committee for Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, please visit my personal Home Page at: http://home.ica.net/~imoraru/ As you could notice from my home page, I was trying to resolve my case complaining to the Human Rights Commission and Ombudsman office, but without success so far. After many letters of protest followed by a hunger strike, the Commission made finally an investigation, but that investigation has not been resolved through normal procedures of investigation and conciliation, and not in accordance with Commission's enforced procedures and cod of ethics. I complained again to the Ombudsman to investigate the Ontario Human Rights Commission, but the Ombudsman office is still refusing to do so. The Ombudsman is using section 17.-(1) of the Ombudsman Act which allows the Ombudsman to refuse to investigate if it appears to him that under the law or existing administrative practice there is a an adequate remedy for the complainant, whether or not the complainant has availed himself of it. What law or administrative practice appeared to the Ombudsman to be an adequate remedy for my case I do not know yet. What I do know, however, is that: •they (government officials) forced my family to live in poverty by cutting our social assistance by 22% ($300 every month); •deducted National Child Supplement, $50.00 received from federal government, from our family welfare cheque; •cut the funds for many programs including training and job search; •denied proper training and certification; •were trying to force me to perform forced or compulsory labour; •cancelled my social assistance since January 2000 because I refused to perform compulsory labour. So, Instead of resolving my case of harassment and discrimination in employment, they cancelled my assistance too, and I am now an unemployed victim among those 600,000 welfare recipients reported by the government that found jobs through workfare! In addition, my daughter has quitted the high school more than three years ago due to our life in poverty imposed by Harris government. All those undemocratic and draconian cuts made from social assistance did not allow me to assure my daughter a proper environment for developing her creativity and talent through a better education in order to achieve a better and prosperous life for herself and to be useful to Canadian society as well. Consequently, she is struggling now with sever depression. Moreover, my wife lost her job and due to skyrocketing of the rent we have a better chance to be evicted on the street and become homeless very soon. Very nice administrative practice and law seen by Ombudsman office! I would be very grateful if there is somebody there who would be touched by the pain and troubles my family has endured so far under Harris government, and would contact the Ontario Ombudsman in order to investigate the Human Rights Commission's decision which has been contrary to the law, was unjust, oppressive and wrong. Practically, the Ombudsman office is committing an obstruction of justice by refusing to investigate the Human Rights Commission's decision. | Comments: | I have a problem and need someone to help me. I have a son that is a Senior in High School. He is the starting quarterback for his team. He was made one of the captains of the team. He also tried out for a traveling baseball team that also plays in the fall. He only plays on the weekend but not every weekend. He was one of the players that they kept on the team. The football coach removed him as captain after finding out he was playing baseball on weekends. He has continued to play both football and baseball. On Monday 9/23/02, my son was told by the football coach that he had to choose between football and baseball. He was not going to allow him to play both sports. I am wondering what rights as a parent do I have in this matter. Also as a student athelete what rights my son has. If anyone could help me with an answer to this problem I would greatly appreciate it. |

The debate over racism is one which we have to get over. There is no debate, there must be no debate. As long as we keep debating this issue the politicians get away with murder. And how they love to hear ordinary people busy debating away! What happens is, is that politicians decide who gets the advantage in society, and in a particular time period. This has been going on forever. Everything revolves around economics. Racism is not a social issue; governments just pretend it is to give us something to debate and blame one another for. Race issues are decided by Corporate America according to who is spending the most, and saving the least, money. Chances are, those doing the most spending are the ones who will get the worst jobs (any job as long as it offers a paycheque). Also, those doing the most spending are generally poorly educated. Keeping these groups racially distinct sweetens the pot even more for those Corporate mindreaders... They spend big dollars on shaping and keeping their markets!!!!!!! So the more we lowly mortals debate the race issue and continue to separate ourselves into groups, the more Corporate America gets to find out and use against us when they market their "garbage" to us. In colonial times, among others, race was emotionalized so that certain rich men could have free or cheap labour. Nowadays, it is economically advantageous for the marketplace to create and purposely emphasize visible minorities, so the rest of us THINK we are all EQUAL. That way, the marketplace is a "happy" place, where we can all buy the same things for our houses, and to put on our skin, and where minorities will want to become "more like" regular Canadians. At least that is the thinking (and hoping) in the corporate boardrooms. Look at the occasions where Blacks, Whites or Chinese are used in TV ads? And in what manner? The way they are portrayed will tell us all we want to know about how alive and well racism is in this country. If we stop debating racism amongst ourselves and settle the issue once and for all, we can instead properly assign the blame on business and politics. This way we will have done more to fight racism than ever before. Ordinary people have to stop bickering at each other. We will only get true equality by identifying who our common enemy is. Soon we will see it is the unscrupulous marketer for whom our differences mean big, big $$$$$$$$$$$$$. We ordinary people all have the same problems. We are all bought and sold. Anyone can get a job. It just depends on what you're willing to do, and how low you're willing to sink to do it. It is amazing what some people do in the name of a job. It is amazing how they sleep at night. Colour doesn't matter to most bosses. They just want you to do what they DO NOT want to do themselves!!! SO.... all you fine people out there of all colours... save your money, be careful what you buy, and don't do crappy, dangerous jobs that exploit other people and the environment!! Slowly but surely everything will come right, and racism, for one thing, will be eradicated. |

But will comment on the notes of three White writers: “Catherine,” the skilled worker who believes that she is loosing out to racial profiling; “Doug Thompson” and “Sandra” who are both disappointed and disillusioned by the racism they see perpetuated by other Whites.
Catherine, like you I am a skilled woman: university educated – seven years to be exact, if you include the all postsecondary studies. Yet, one-year after finishing a post-graduate certificate specializing in Corporate Communications, I am without work and humiliated that I cannot support my family. (I’ve also been published). My dreams of a new and “real” career, despite an honours degree, are on the freeze and I am extremely worried and becoming increasingly depressed. My teens often have more money than I do. If racial profiling would work in my favor, I’d do it in a heartbeat as “a way in” because in my life so many doors have been closed. Yet unlike you, I work hard not to be bitter, because if I’m disadvantaged now, imagine how bitterness would help? You, and others like you, are being misled to believe that tons of jobs are being kept from you. Rarely do I ever disclose my race – Black – during the application process, but in desperation have tried a few times when such guidelines encouraged it. I have yet to get an interview. Believe me, things are not what they seem, the injustice is real, you only have to open up your heart and conscience wide enough to see! For the many writers who are White and disillusioned by racism, I applaud your conscience and honesty. I’m always shocked when others who are not a visible minority cannot see the sometimes blatant hatred and discrimination placed upon minorities, especially Blacks. Sandra, thank you for apologizing for the ignorance of others. If you continue to “let your conscience be your guide,” you don’t necessarily have to march in the streets with signs or do anything truly visible, you will have made an impact regardless because others will see your example. Thank you for counting yourself with the human race! Doug, I’m both sorry and glad that you have experienced the prejudice of the armed forces and society because of your marriage to a Native Canadian. If you did not have the experiences that you did, and more importantly, truly allowed yourself to see them for what they were, our cries would go unnoticed. When a white person experiences racism, indirectly, they can truly relate to what others experience on a regular basis. Sadly, these are rarely the people who need the lesson. You are right that people of many races put themselves on the line for this country daily, but hatred still prevails. As you can see from the many entries, others are just as disturbed by racism as you are. Keep on having a strong moral conscience! God bless. |

I recently attended a Functional restoration Program for Chronic Pain Sufferers,after being discharged from the program was notified I was cut-off benefits one month after the decision was made. | Comments: | I want to respond to "Boxer" who wrote about police abuses. Listen, everyone out there, Boxer is absolutely right! Canada is fast becoming a police state. It is also being more and more run by labour unions who use ordinary citizens to get more money and power.
What these labour union "gangs" do is get their members to exploit the ordinary citizen. Take for instance what happened to some guy on a bus in Quebec. This guy got on the bus where he witnessed the driver abusing passengers as they got on. He would make comments about their transfers or their slowness etc. Then he made some guy come all way to the front of the bus to aggressively tell him he was not allowed to have a walkman on even though they are allowed on buses as long as they are not too loud. The passenger who witnessed this turned to a woman who was sitting next to him and said, " Man, what is wrong with this driver?" The driver heard this and shouted out, "who said that?" The passenger said, "yes, I said that." The bus driver then got really mad and called the police. The innocent passenger was arrested and put in jail for 3 days. He was beaten and otherwise mistreated by police. Even though the passenger DID NOTHING wrong, he was charged with "uttering death threats" against the bus driver. The passenger had three witnesses to prove his innocence but the crown prosecutor went ahead with the case anyway. When the passenger went to a lawyer for help, the lawyer said, "this will go to court because the union will force it to go there." The reason is that the union wants it to look like the bus drivers have a hard job. This is how they get more money from the municipalities. The innocent passenger is having a really hard time now. Is there anybody out there with similar stories? We have to get them told. Let's pull together and do something about where this country is going! |

| Comments: | In the process of creating resume's on-line I have discovered that the old antiquated method of entering employment is still being rampantly used. That is mm/dd/yr to mm/dd/yr - guess what! It is illegal to ask/assertain the age of a potential employee!!! Can you say discrimination in a major way here? I can! You can't even by-pass the these field's...they are manditory. It should be by number(#) of mm/dd/or yr's of employment. Reference's are used to verify duration information - not a person's age. A person's age can easily be determined under the current setup. I don't see these career sites supplying job searchers with access to their rights under the law!
How can we change this?! Employer's want that format and just for that reason....to find out how old you are! They can always find a "legal" reason for not hiring you! How has this gone unchecked with the laws that are in place? Does any one know? Can anything be done to change this? |

| Comments: | In December 2000, I was wronfully terminated from my sales position in a Fortune 500 company whose Canadian head office is in Toronto. The reason for termination was because I made a complaint that a manager physically harassed me and put me in a dangerous environment. This was not the first complaint made against this manager. I went through all the proper channels and was told by the Director of HR that if I filed a formal complaint, he guarantees me no reprisal. Once I filed the complaint, my accounts were taken away from me and I was officially demoted without justification or reason. I was told the manager has a severe drinking problem and needs an intervention. The company offered me money to leave and I did not accept it because it entailed signing away my rights on a release form. Since then, I have not been able to get a job in my field. I have been blackballed everywhere. I get the interviews and reach the final stages and then the subject comes up and I am ignored. I moved to this city 3 years ago for better professional opportunities and find I am absolutely bewildered by the lack of ethics, discrimination and treatment of people. This isn't even the first issue that has arisen since I have been in Toronto. I am constantly amazed that these corporations actually function although I should be used to it by now....As we all know, this is a subject that no one likes to discuss. It is amazing what the average person on the street gets arrested for, IE: groping and what is overlooked in offices. Why should it be any different and how can we create an atmosphere where corporate governance is held accountable for the "crimes" committed within the offices as well as being held accountable for their employees actions. |

On wed I was phoned by my boss and told not to come in for my regular thursday shift..no reason was given and I was told that I would be called the next day with further details. The next day A letter of termination was deliverd to my door.
Again, no reasons for my termination were stated.and when I called the office to inquire, I recieved no reply. I did however, hear from a superior / co-worker that the boss had told her directly that she did not like me, still no reason was stated. I congratulate you on being very accurate in what you said. You should go one step further now and tell people in your country not to come to North America. | Comments: | USA (American companies to be more accurate) has welcomed 5 millions of "skilled" professionals (most of them holding H1B visas) in a way to fullfill its own deficit of skills in some areas. But as soon as they become redundant (obviously, american citizens have the preference when deciding who is gonna be fired) they are sent back to their countries (if they are not green card holders). So, I found your comment about USA not being 100% accurate.
The other point is that not all immigrants are in a situation like the one you have mentioned. First of all you have to see if they came here as refugees (and after some time got permanent resident status) or directly as permanent residents. Of course there is racism... in the same way there is racism in our own countries, so, blaming racism is not gonna solve their problem. The fact is that you have to be really *hot* to get attencion as a professional. Doctors,Lawyers, Computer professionals... any professional have to show that he/she is more skilled and knowledgeable than a Canadian citizen in order to get a position (Since there are lots of Canadians applying as well...) We should not blame Canada, we should blame ourselves for coming here. That was our a choice we took freely and nobody put a gun against our head to forces coming here. If something is not like we expected to be.. Who are we gonna blame? |

It is clear David is suffering from "Canada Rage." This condition happens when you are led to believe by every means available that you live in the perfect place. Then, suddenly, you find yourself caught in a bit of a rough spot (life does this from time to time) and you see that you have no rights or freedom in this "perfect place" you live in. You realize that this "perfect place" only works if you are perfect too. | Comments: | While Toronto may enjoy the highest level of racial integration with least amount of racial strife of any city in the world, any amount of discrimination is intolerable. To this end, I support groups which try to lessen this, and can see the positive results of their hard work.
On the other hand, I cannot support "studies" which draw conclusions based on assumptions and manipulations of statistics to further their cause. After reading the article on racism and housing in Toronto, it is clear that there is little direct evidence to support racism as the source. The act of "racism" is not a clearly drawn conclusion of any of the stats, and should not be presented as such. The use of the word "subtle" further indicates opinion, rather then fact, is predominent. Labelling everything that happens as an act of racism is not only innaccurate, but hurts the fight against racism. I am for the cause...just not this way....this article is so full of holes, it could easily be dismissed by most as nothing more than zealous propaganda...people are much smarter than that. Next time, perhaps a more accurate bigger picture, with at least a hint of the positive aspect to Toronto's multi-ethnicity would go much further. Trying to paint Toronto as a hotbed of racial strife just isn't going to be taken serious by many people, and what good is that going to do? |

my sister & her family has been homeless for 3 yrs. nobody will rent to her. she is a single, aboriginal parent with 3 kids. all our family has opened their doors to her during this difficult time. i myself have seen the subtle forces of racism when i am asked to leave 'establishments' because they didn't believe that i could 'afford' their services! i have been ignored (by salespeople & potential employers), put down (i see & hear those looks & remarks!), and treated like a 10th class person. whatever. businesses who don't serve, die. they don't know what my annual income is. they don't know what level of education i have. they don't know who i know. i have been kicked out of homes because i challenge the landlord when he tries to make unannounced visits, when he tells me i can't run my business from my home, when he tells me that i have 2 weeks to move because he wants to sell (the law says i have 3 months!) a note to those parasites who live on the backs of the poor: what comes around goes around. |

I think that he was right to lay charges and that the judge in this case must have been some kind of a moron to let Foster off. This is injustice at its finest.
We could use more officers out there like Watkins. Cops that target those who are breaking the law, instead of just taking the easy way and hassling teens. |

RE:Winter Driving to work- rule of thumb....In the future, the rule is as follows; if I can make a 70 mile trip in snow conditions, everyone locally can also get to work. If you cannot get out first thing then wait for the snow plows to clear the road and then drive in. I am not keen on someone using this situation as a day off. The exception of course is if the city is closed. I have no problem as well, with staff leaving a little early to avoid a major incoming storm. Thanks for your cooperation. |

| Comments: | The time has come to stop police abuse. It sickens me to learn just how bad the situation is in this country. Most people are unaware of how systemic the problem really is. There should be higher levels of qualifications required for police officers,psychological screening that weeds out the psycho-pathic bullies and a greater level of objective accountability.
Our courts seem reluctant to prosecute the police.Why is this? Why does there appear to be a different standard for the police? Every time a police officer is killed or harmed in the line of duty we are inunindated with melodramatic cries of how dangerous their job is. I am pretty sure that Hydro workers and firemen and even garbage men are in more danger on a daily basis. The police, however, are paid humungous premiums for being 'at risk'. The Police Services Act states the qualification to be a police officer in Ontario is 4 years of highschool and a three month training program. A starting police officer earns almost $60k. How many highschool drop outs earn that kind of money? Police are not what they used to be. They can no longer expect the respect of the public. When you have ignoramouses like Bromell setting the ethical standards. When you have people being killed, beaten, falsly arrested on a daily basis. When the police abuse their position and the law for their own personal benefits and vindications. It is time for a very serious reform. The United States is on the verge of such a reform after haven received the report from Amnesty International. We would be tremendously niave to believe for one second that we do not have the same problems here in Canada. In fact I think quite possible the situation is likely worse as we only have an illusion of free speach in this country. This right has been eroded through case law. How much is out there that we do not even know about? It is time for some serious intervention. Why do the powers that be not see this? What has to happen? |

| Comments: | I work with the Tenant Protection Act of Ontario within the framework of a University and I house student families from all over the world. This work is extremely rewarding but it can sometimes be trying. I witness racism/discrimination first hand when our tenants move out and their new landlords call for references: it is extrordinary the number of landlords who ask questions that are illegal: "what country is he/she from," "are they clean," "do they have dogs," "do they have an insect problem," "do they have any substance abuse problems"--to name a few. And, every time it happens I make sure that particular landlord never calls and asks illegal questions again by delivering a very severe, educative, legal lesson. The anger that ensues at the other end of the receiver is unbelievable.
We are also one of the few landlord in Guelph that actually go by the law and allow dogs. I've often wondered why more is not done by the Tenant Protection Act of Ontario to arrest this illegal type of discrimination especially since it is such an overt travesty--just look in the rental section of classified ads. One more comment--to the Tenant Protection Act of Ontario about next year's 3.9%--that is too, too much. You will be hurting the segment of society that can least afford to pay high rent. I would really like to know the reasoning behind such a large increase for the coming year; your increases are usually not so draconian. How unfair. Does the Human Rights Commission think that the 3.9% rent increase will affect dominant,white, priviliged culture. I challenge the powers that be to be forward enough in their thinking to consider which group will be most affected... |

Although my case is not race related, it does clearly demonstrate the willingness of OHRC staff and Commissioner Norton to blatantly circumvent long established policies and procedures in favour of a Global corporate Respondent. An OHRC investigation found that there was a failure to accommodate my job acquired handicap by my employer of 18 years Mary Kay Cosmetics. However decided not to send the matter to a Board of Inquiry because the $2500 settlement offer was reasonable. This offer was in fact never disclosed to my Lawyer. We were only informed of an initial $1000 offer. The case analysis contained references of my opinion regarding this undisclosed second offer. My Lawyer Ms.Allison Taylor of Stringer Brisbin Humphrey addressed this obvious procedural breakdown and the Commissioners ignored her concerns and rendered thier decision. This matter has been under reconsideration since April 2001, it's only issue is my entitlement to an expression of regret. Should anyone committed to OHRC reform

However, I was born and raised in Toronto, which the United Nations calls the most multi-cultural city in the world, and most of my friends were Jamaican, Trini, Indian, African, etc. I am a white female who's only dated outside my race and I've NEVER gotten any funny looks, none of my friends had experienced racism in Canada but always talked about how racist other countries were esp. the USA. I'm 18 now living in New Orleans the past two years. When i came here, i was out of my mind thinking i was in the 18th century; white is with white, black is with black. It's terrible! Keep fighting racism in Canada until it disappears, but, remember, damn it will never be close to how bad the States is!!! It's a fact that the most educated group of people in Canada is black men, and it is a fact that Black people live better in Canada than in the US. I am very grateful that I was raised in such a tolerant place. I think sometimes, maybe it's just the older generations that experience this and whom are racist??? what do u think? |

tell me what ever happened to the cops indicted for the Otto Vass killing??? seems as if the whole thing has just "gone away" as do so many investigations of police killings Editor's Note: The Otto Vass case is currently before the courts facing charges of manslaughter. A trial date should be set in August 2002. According to the Globe and Mail [July 5, 2002 Internet Edition] Ontario Court Judge Paul Taylor ruled that sufficient evidence exists to commit Constables Robert LeMaitre, Phillip Duncan, Nam-Nham Le and Filippo Bevilacqua to trial, but stressed that his decision had no relevance to whether the officers are guilty or innocent of the charges. |

| Comments: | Saskatoon made Amnesty International's list this spring (2001) regarding the dumping of drunks at the edge of town in sub-freezing temperatures. This spring there was also a rash of crazy shootings in Saskatchewan, some by Saskatoon Police, others by RCMP.
As far as we can tell, none of them were "justified." As far as the social climate, there would seem to be more sympathy for a police dog which was shot in one ot the instances than the person the police shot in cold blood. Our website has been directed towards bringing one corrupt cop to justice, Superintendent Brian Dueck of the Saskatoon Police who has built his career on manufacturing cases against innocent people through a range of techniques from torture to threats and getting disturbed children to lie under oath. |

because of temporary medical restrictions. After having waited for my union to resolve the matter, I filed a Human Rights Complaint but it was after the six-month time limit and now the Company is using the Section 34 clause to escape from having to answer for their discrimination against me on my disability. Does it make sense that the Company can be allowed to continue this kind of behaviour because of a time-frame imposed by the Ontario Human Rights Commission? I thought the Commission was on the side of the infringed worker? |
