I was put onto your website by Martin Watts' Fujian Bai he website, on which he highly recommends you. I really enjoyed it, and learned a great deal about your art, which I greatly respect and appreciate. I have been involved in Okinawan martial arts since 1976, and have gradually been following the roots back to the White Crane systems. Now I train in White Crane forms on my own, since there are no teachers here in Indiana. I do mainly forms ( I learned from a teacher in England some years ago...he had lived in Taiwan as a professor). Dear Lady, Is wonderful what are you doing.This site is excellent!I am a Wing Chun practitioner in the Yip Man manner and also a Tai Chi man in Yang Style. Both of them are my life passions and I am sure that,somehow they are the same ancient origin. The most probably that would be The White Crane from Fujian.Finding your site is hardening my conviction.Anyway, there is a lot of philosophy which can be applied to Wing Chun.Ths style, with all the noise done around it, is practically poor at the chapter of interpretational doctrine. This is my pain in relation with this passion of mine. If I could find some resources which can enlight my knowledge about the origins of Wing Chun, that will make me happy.I am almost sure that the form passed by Ng Mui to Yim Wing Chun were very close to those of White Crane of Fujian.But, because the Wing Chun is a more,more simplified structure,the original form was lost,yet this doesn't means that the entire original theory is lost too or is inadptative to this style. Unfortunately, nobody speaks about that nowadays.That's why this theory must be found or recreated and puted in its belonging place. I was very happy to find your website, it is an outstanding source of information on Dong Mu Yaos system of White Crane. You really have done a great job with the site. My wife and I live in Taiwan where I teach American law and my wife works as a translator. She and I had the good luck to see Dong MuYao several years ago at a demonstration put on by Lion Publishers (the folks who put out Taiwan Wu Lin magazine). And then again more recently we saw some great Taiwanese White Crane at another demonstration (also put on by Lion Publishers). It was interesting to see that you live in South Lake Tahoe. The very last place I vacationed in California before moving here to Taiwan (12 years ago!, time flies!) was South Lake Tahoe. A friend of mine has a vacation cottage up at Tahoe and I thought I ought to see some snow before moving to Taiwan so I spent a week up there before moving here. In any event, I just wanted to drop you a line and complement you on your website. Elizabeth and I write a regular column for a magazine called Classical Fighting Arts and maybe sometime soon we will do a piece on the various forms of White Crane that are here in Taiwan. Nice web page. Looks like you put a lot of work into it. Now that I've seen your web page I feel motivated again! I still practice a little tai chi, mostly the slow form. When I was studying with you I enjoyed doing the White Crane form. It gave me a good feeling. I didn't have a New Year's resoultion but now I have one. I plan to practice a couple of White Crane moves every day. Maybe by the time I see both of you again I will remember the sequence and then you can make correcitons for me. I think your site is one of the most informative and revealing kung fu websites on the net at the moment with its forms mpegs and wealth of background information. Do you plan to add to your video collection in the future? May I ask what grade you hold in your system, and how many students you have at Lake Tahoe? How's the skiing coming along? well cheng man-ching version of it. I was wondering if there is a soft side to your style of white crane? also thanks for sharing the forms videos that was very kind of you. In closing I noticed a lot of arm movement that is independent of the waist and hips, this is quite different than my styles, do you use mainly arm strength? In my styles the waist leads the arms, they are just like bumpers on a car they go up and down and the hands can flip(everything just in the natural range without tensing or restricting the joints especially the shoulders) What are your views on this? Once again thankyou for sharing your forms, i will send you any of mine if you are ever interested. |
