We also need to lengthen the waiting period and double their opportunites for appeal. It's imperitive that we give them much bigger cells and stop torturing them with video game consoles that are 5+ years old!! What I've heard and read about your situation has caused me enough concern that there is not enough confirmed truth that is strong enough to back up a sentence of death. We know many people are being released due to DNA evidece and other forensic evdience. There are aslo significant numbers of death row inmates being exonerated. These errors cannot be reversed! I would rather not execute someone who truly is too dangerous to live on the outside be allowed to survive--albeit kept confined--than to learn after the fact than an innocent man or woman whose life, famiy, reputation has been destroyed, forever stained with the mark of felon, murderer, sex offender, child abuser and all the other things no one wants to be known as in this society will have these labels following them because someone always remembers and you have to tell employers at least the basics.
Stay strong, Miss Linda. If your hands are squeaky clean, then I hope you are soon free of that lie hanging over your head and chaining your limbs. If your hands are not spotless, then I am sure you are suffering within your own internal prison in addition to the one in which you live. I will continue to follow the handling of your case. My wish is that one day your daughter will be able to receive the comforting hug from her mother that she seems to long for. Wishing you all good things, Linda, and hoping an attack of conscience promts one of the men who know the truth to find their way to tell this truth and offer honesty. A long distance hug to you. I am 48 year old male and clearly remember the Cowboy movies that I was watching when I was a kid. Sherriff had the final say even though it could be wrong. How could they be allowed to play with human lives like this.

I just seen the documentary tonight and i certiaqnly know with all ive heard that this woman Linda Carty did not get a fair hearing at all. The Lawyer was terrible and did not go out of his way to help this womans case all the way leading up to the court case .. Also the programme makers contacted both the Proscurator Fiscal and the Solicitor in Question in Texas but were given the deaf-ear WHY ? I reckon they are hiding something and also the Prosecutor never had a shred of evidence against this woman, apart from a couple of witnesses whom only were i feel sticking together so as they would get of without the death penalty .. This should be a retrial with your now Solicitor and all these so-called witnesses should be recalled and same goes for the Police recalled.. and this is a case which certainly should be a retrial in a fairer way for sure .. I think this woman is innocent of this dreadful crime but the British Government should get more so involved i feel on this case and David Cameron should not hide inside of Parliament in London but get the mge across big time to Mr Obama that this case needs re-opened and the right thing done and thats a new fairer retrial and i feel this woman should be released deservedly as their wasnt any Scientific evidence to find this person Guilty and all the Prosecution had was a couple of Liars whom wanted to save their own skin from such a barbaric end .. meantime this woman Linda Carty has my vote for sure as this case has been a shambles. |

I pray you were not involved in that hideous crime which must have caused life long terrible grief to her family. In the same breath, if you are not guilty, or even if you had some involvement you were entitled to justice in the eyes of men and under the law. You certainly appear to have been criminally under-represented in court and the full truth has not been arrived at, you have been rail-roaded onto Death Row under a prejudiced system which is a disgrace to the USA. To rent the car, Carty identified herself as an FBI agent, so the FBI also investigated her for impersonating an officer. Carty pleaded guilty and was placed on a ten-year term of probation (she was still on probation when arrested for murdering Rodriguez). I fled and their plan failed.

| Comments: | A fair trial is the least of rights that should be accorded a person by society. I am in favour of serious punishment for serious crimes but, society when meting out a punishment should be able to undo it if it has been found to be unfairly apportioned: any person should be able to have confidence that if they themselves were wrongly convicted, that the opportunity for justice to prevail, however far in the future, exists and is not diminished. We cannot in every case say that there is never a miscarriage of justice, that every witness is found (or indeed truthful) or that every piece of evidence is presented and properly understood. There are, inevitably, a proportion of people in prison for things that they did not do and some face the death penalty. The death penalty is an obscenity which punishes in the most cruel manner - just think of those videos on Al-Jazheera of captives, who have been told, that unless certain demands are met, they will be killed in a certain number of days, and who when the demands are unmet, are murdered. The reason for that person being there is different, but how else does this differ from the process of capital punishment? How exactly does the state differ from the terrorist? Nor is it just the convicted person who is punished, but every member of that person's family who must live their life in a state of perpetual grief over their loss - and what is their crime that they should be so punished by the state?

I am from London. I saw an article about your case in The Guardian Newspaper yesterday. I can not believe you have been convicted on the evidence put forward! Oh yes I can!!! I do hope the British Government will try and do something very quickly for you. To have die when not guilty is apalling,and even if someone has committed murder...how can one give out punishment of death....when the state is therefor committing the same crime! Ever since a young child when the last woman was hung in Britain I could not understand the logic and felt ashamed to be of a country that gave out this punishment. I am deeply disturped over the planned execution of this Black British Grandmother who has maintained her plea of innocence in this bizzarre crime. She has been handed this sentace soley on the testomonal of two convicted murderuers who saved there own skins by blaming this women. She has not by any way proved guilty beyond resonable doubt. Linda's court-appointed lawyer was Jerry Guerinot, whose incompetence has already led to twenty of his clients ending up on death row, more than any other defence lawyer in the US. His approach to her case was at best, slapdash, at worst, wilfully inept. Guerinot's catalogue of serious failings in Linda's case includes: failure to meet Linda until immediately before the trial, failure to inform Linda or her husband of their rights; failure to spot obvious flaws and inconsistencies in the prosecution case; failure to interview witnesses; and failure to investigate key mitigating evidence. The prosecution's rather implausible theory was that Linda was afraid of losing her common-law husband and thought that if she had another baby he would stay. Unable to get pregnant, they allege she had hired three men to kidnap Rodriguez and that she planned to steal the child - a baby of a different race to Linda. The US is bound under international treaties to inform foreign countries when their citizens are arrested. But this may not always happen in Texas, leaving foreign prisoners cut off from the consular aid to which they are entitled. The oversight should have been picked up by her defence lawyer, but never was. Failed to interview witnesses Any amateur Miss Marple would have out-sleuthed Jerry Guerinot. The case against Linda was a fantastical tale and holier than a Swiss cheese, yet Jerry never investigated many of its inconsistencies. Even worse, jurors were kept in the dark about mitigating factors that could easily have saved Linda's life. Linda had an exemplary teaching career, followed by a series of highly traumatic events including spousal abuse, rape and miscarriage. Guerinot was awarded the funding to investigate all this, but never did. Was he too busy taking his suit to the cleaners? The wedding may have gone swimmingly, but Jerry and Linda were clearly a match made in hell. The lesson? If you’re accused of a terrible crime, pray hard that Jerry Guerinot never darkens your cell door Linda if you read this London has heard your story I think I speak for everyone we are all deeply disturped.
