Comments:" I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year, 'Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown.' And he replied, 'Go out into the darkness and put your hand in the hand of God. That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way!' So I went forth and finding the Hand of God, trod gladly into the night. And He led me towards the hills and the breaking of day in the lone East. " (M L Haskins, quoted by His late Majesty King George VI in his Christmas broadcast in 1939). I cannot think of a better way of wishing my friends in Glenmavis a Happy New Year, 2006.

I was brought up in Mount Ellen and regularly attended the local Church at Gartcosh with my family. We left to live in Stockton on Tees in 1970, and I am trying to contact my best friend from Gartcosh Audrey Forrest. The last I heard was she was still living there. If anyone knows here I would be grateful if you could let her know I am looking for her.

Comments:I just came upon a document whitch is my grandfathers birth certificate. This certificate says he was baptised at your church on April 11, 1897. He was baptised by Robert C. Anderson, minister at Greengairs parish. My grandfathers name was William Harrison. My greatgrandfathers name was George Harrison, the same as my fathers name. My greatgrand mothers maiden name was Mary Hunter Caldwell. I am not asking you for any research, I just thought you'd be interested to know the Harrison family has been living in Canada since the 1920's. The only thing I wonder is, could I say prayers with you on sunday over the internet. To think I could pray with you like my great grand parents did. If not I understand, and may you tell everyone this sunday that someone in British Columbia, Canada is praying for them. God bless, and bye for now. Glenn Harrison

Comments:While searching for a website for the Airdrie & Coatbridge Advertiser, I found this site for the church which I was a member of during Mr McConnell's time, before I left Glenmavis on the well-trodden path down south in 1972. What a nice surprise. I don't imagine too many of the current members remember me, but my best wishes to any who do. And of course, my best wishes to everybody associated with the auld kirk on the hill. Cameron Bradshaw (Hockley, Essex)

Name: Elizabeth Ellsworth (Spence)
E-mail address: ellsworth@forterie.com
Comments:I was looking for an obituary in the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser and I came acroos your website. It gives me goose bumps to bring the church right into my home. My favourite window is "The Good Samaritan". I have also found Airdrie Academy on my computer and to my surprise when I punched in photos up came a picture of my Dad. The picture was sent in by James Bell. It is great what this new age can do to distance. It brings you so close, but this week when my sister was so ill in the hospital nothing could breech the distance. Thank you for letting into the church. Betty Ellsworth

Comments:As a native of Airdrie living in Canada, I still enjoy a walk around the church grounds visiting the graves of most of my family when I am "home" for a visit. It brings back many happy memories when I stand in front of the graves and think back on good times and funny stories. The grounds still look well cared for. Keep up the good work.
