| Comments: | I am a mother of a 23 weeker born on 2/1/04. Melody was born at 489 grams (1 pound-1ounce) and she was 10 1/4 inches long. She was a real fighter and God performed many miracles in her life. She was born kicking and with her eyes wide open which forced the medical team to recusitate her. She underwent at total of 16 surgeries (major and minor) as well as 5 serious/lifethreatening infections during her life. Her kidneys stopped several times and she required dialysis. She almost went into complete liver failure. She underwent 7 of the above surgeries for her eyes. She was a miracle baby as God brought her through so many crisis situations and keep her in perfect stability throughout all of her surgeries. She was never able to come off of the ventilator due to her frequent setbacks. Her intestines ruptured on her 17th day of life and this lead to her many subsequent problems. Her struggle for life ended here on earth on 8/22/04 when she developed a relapse of staph pneumonia. She is now in heaven in Jesus arms. She is able to frolick in the meadows and see beautiful rainbows. I enjoyed every minute of every day I spent with her in the NICU (204 days) since she never made it home. We spent time praying, singing, talking, holding hands and after she was 2 1/2 months old I got to hold her. I held her on the days she was relatively stable. She was our gift after 11 years of infetility. She is greatly missed but she touched so many lives and she spoke the message of how she CHOOSE LIFE despite the circumstances. She recoginized our voices and every day she opened her eyes for me upon my arrival and we spent time in loving interaction. Melody's message of life is on the website listed above. | Comments: | At first I thought the pictures were so bizarre, of you holding a dead baby. Then I realized little Josiah was alive in the pictures and my heart broke for you. I loved your story-especially the part and the corresponding picture of him holding your finger. It just goes to show you how smart these little babies are, and how much joy they bring, even if you only have them for a second. Your poetry is beautiful too! I too lost my child, Kyla in Oct to a pool drowning, she was 26mos! my dear friend one state away was losing her girl (22wks)@ the same time. This was her third lost baby. She too has photos of her.
