Comments:The expression "No atheists in the foxholes" implies that there is great fear when a person is under fire, therefor an individual seeks comfort in god. But if you are a believer, why the fear? It seems to me that the expression should be changed to read "There's a little atheist in everyone in a foxhole."

You! don't get me wrong, all dogma, and religious hypocracy is entertaining, but i never thought i'd find a self confessesd aethiest whining about how everyone hates him cos he's not a christian. please tell me it's not like that really. i, as an aetheist myself, thought that the big deal with aetheism was about not having to think about God every day all the time? you seem to be making a living out of it, and it seems that your letting the lambs of god piss you off enough to want to make ONE BIG KEBAB. i say, let them all go about their small lives, grovelling on their knees; an aetheist has a duty, in accepting that there is no god, to rise above the arguing, and make somthing of their life.

Comments:Just wanted to say that I'm glad you're doing what you're doing. I haven't had time to see much of your thoughts but I basically agree with you. I think it must be very hard to put yourself in a position where you are exposed to the hatred of all the religious peoples. You have more courage than I. I once put a bumpersticker on my car that said, "Faith is immoral". It took about 2 hours of driving before the first person yelled insults at me. I took off the bumpersticker. Well, partly my wife made me.
Anyway, have you considered that reasoning with these people is utterly hopeless? I would suggest that you might try focusing on all the people who only believe the parts of the bible that they feel like believing. I think if all these supposed "Christians" either had to believe it all or not at all, instead of paying lip service to it because they're afraid of being considered immoral, very few christians would be left.
In other words, focus on the hypocrites who say they're christian's, yet don't believe that witches, "effeminate men", and people who work on Sundays should be killed. (As I believe it says in the bible. I might be wrong about killing Sunday workers. Maybe just whip them, ha ha.)

Anyway best of luck. You've put yourself in a tough position, but you're standing up for what you believe in and I believe it's the most worthwhile cause there is.

Why? Because these faith-based religions at the least, obstruct the development of superior philosophies based on reason. And usually, as can be seen throughout history and right now, do much worse.

Like Hitler he wants to lead a master race of people that measure up to his standards of perfection.

Like Stalin he strikes fear into the hearts of his followers instantly punishing anyone who gets out of line or who doesn't agree with him.

His mercy and compassion only extends to those who will ultimately conform to his way of thinking and he has an indestructable army that will crush anyone who tries to get in his way.

The most frightening aspect about this is his followers worship his every word and praise his every action even though that action may include the torturing and killing of their own friends and loved ones.

What kind of individual would sacrifice their humanity and want to follow such an angry, jealous, egotistical leader as this?

I love the shows.

I hate to sound like I'm subscribing to a stereotype, but it makes me happy to see a black atheist who isn't afraid to speak his mind.

Growing up, my best friend was a black atheist who lived in total fear from his family, as they were hardcore christians and would have probably disowned him. We went our own ways eventually (I'm in the military, he's working in a law firm) but he still lives in the closet from his family today and honestly, it really sucks...

Not only that, it's great to see any atheist devoted to bringing the truth to everyone who will listen.

Keep on being the infidel you are. :)

Like the idea of the Atheist business cards. Think I'll get some card stock from the local craft store and print up some cards. Think I'll put some slogans on them like. "Do you really think some one walked on water? Are you willing to spend your whole life worshiping him just in case he did?
What are the chances?" Atheists for human rights etc. Than I might put a list of helpfull url's.

I got on the local radio call in show when they were talking about "in god we trust" on money. I condemed it saying I'm an Atheist and don't believe in god. 5 fundys got on after me just to rant about what I said. One pissed off old lady got on and said she would like to know "who that guy is" I take it she remembered the last time I called up the station ha ha

Monday, December 10th 2001 - 09:53:05 PM
Name: Atheist Propagandist
Comments:Okay. Are you an atheist? If so, now is the time to take your atheism to another level. How? By speading the propaganda of unbelief.

Hell, Christians do it all the time. They use every sneaky way to thrust their belief in your face. Why should they get away with it without a little rebuttal of our own?

This is not a visible propaganda mission, boys and girls, but a secret mission filled with stealth and cunning, and it requires vigilance, mostly to avoid getting caught. (Some states have laws against this sort of thing, so just be careful.)

First you need some propaganda materials. I will focus on atheist flyers and atheist business-sized cards. If you can find other creative ways to spread "unbelief," by all means, DO IT!

FLYERS

You can find some nice examples of flyers you can print by going to:

http://www.unamerican.com/propgnda/index.htm

1. Print out some of the flyers on that site (they are free,) or come up with some on your own. You can be short and sweet by printing up, "GOD SUCKS" flyers, or be more creative with "JESUS IS DEAD. GET OVER IT!"
2. In a stealth-like manner, post your artistic efforts wherever you feel people will congregate. Attach them to school benches, to telephone poles near intersections, drop them in coffee shops, bookstores, or music shops, place them under magazines in your dentist's office or the grocery store, or anywhere you feel people would stumble upon them.
3. This is important: LEAVE! I know it's tempting to see the looks on people's faces when they see something that offends their superstitions, but it's like the arsonist who stands in the crowd watching his/her artwork go up in smoke. It's the fastest way of getting caught. This is drive-by propaganda, people, and the satisfaction is in the placement. You already know how some people will respond.

BUSINESS CARDS

Next, try business cards with the same types of phrases.
1. Get some Avery business cards for printers. (Any brand will do, though.)
2. Print up as many as you can afford.
3. Take these cards EVERYWHERE YOU GO. To the grocery store, the bank, the Doctor's office, the Church (Yes, the Church, for all of you closeted atheists.) Now, anywhere you see a good opportunity to slip them in a place where some unsuspecting believer will see them, PUT IT THERE. Put them in religious books in libraries and bookstores. Put them in the Left Behind books, that series of masturbatory X-tian Rapture fantasies. That would be a perfect spot to stick a hidden atheist card. Leave the cards in toilet stalls, hidden in a dollar bill dropped in a Salvation Army bucket at Xmas time, put it in those restaurant contest boxes where people put business cards to win a free dinner. Anywhere is fair game, as long as you know that it will be seen by someone, and that you will not be caught placing the card.
3. Once again, after placing the card, LEAVE. Or, at least, move to another area, like the children's section in a bookstore.

Another good tip is using Business Reply Envelopes from mass market mailers. Say you get one of those sweepstakes letters with a Business Reply Envelope (BRE.) That BRE means free postage, and at least ONE person will be opening that letter.

Place a card or flyer in the envelope, seal it, preferably with a wet sponge (you don't want your DNA on the envelope, do you?), and put it in the mail. The person opening the mail will see your propaganda and either throw it away or keep it. One thing is for certain, IT WILL BE READ, and it cost you $0.00 in postage.

Now, this next idea is illegal, and I DO NOT recommend that you do this. Some ruffians have taken to writing messages on US currency and passing them, which is a Federal offense. Some have written web site addresses, phone numbers or simple messages. It's easy as pie to do, and almost impossible to get caught as the perpetrator.

The advantage is that it remains in circulation for a long time before it is taken out. The disadvantage is doing it to too many bills. It's best to do it on bills used in vending machines where you would not hand it to a human being. But, of course, you wouldn't be doing anything illegally, now would you?

Be creative. The more people that do this, the more people can be shaken into doubting their faith. And as we all know, the best way to kill a superstition is by doing research into their brand of faith. If more people were encouraged to think instead of parroting their Pastors, this would be a better world, indeed. But if we do this on a personal level, we may just launch the end of this superstitious God belief right now.

Do your duty. Spread the word of unbelief using the tried and true techniques of various X-tian sects. If it works for them, it can't miss with us. Go to it, soldiers!

Comments:Infidelguy sounded perplexed about why Fundamentalists would be against the magic in the Harry Potter books and movies. I read many fundamentalist websites when I was doing an article about why some fundamentalists are against Halloween. Fundamentalists are not like most other Christians. They do indeed believe in magic, although the "magic" that God does is called "miracles". They believe all other magic comes from Satan. They are not against children watching or reading Harry Potter because they don't believe in magic but because they do! They do indeed believe magic works, that it is of the devil and that children who try to practice magic are in danger of becoming possesssed by demons. Most Christians would laugh at this--it is only the fundamentalists and probably not even all fundamentalits --who believe this, but they honestly believe that books and movies and games involving magic or "the occult" are dangerous and that kids are going to get possessed. Infidelguy is right that they are frightened by Harry Potter. They are seriously terrified. If the reason for their terror weren't so completely ridiculous I would feel sorry for them.

Whenever a Christian tries to hand me a pamphlet, I tell them I will take their literature or listen to their story for $20. Inevitably, they balk. Then I say, “Well, if God sees everything, he just saw that you weren’t willing to give me a measly 20 bucks. He just saw that preaching his gospel isn’t worth a lousy 20 dollars to you. He just saw you value filthy lucre over his word.” They usually get very upset at this point and try to turn it around, but all you have to say is “You came to me with your literature that obviously isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. Good luck explaining to God when you get to heaven that you couldn’t part with 20 dollars to save someone.” I have yet to get the twenty dollars, but I’m hoping it will work one day. The beauty is all you have to do is take the pamphlet in your hand- you can immediatly throw it away, because all you promised was to take it from them. I plan to spend the money on either liquor or banned books.

Whenever a Christian tries to hand me a pamphlet, I tell them I will take their literature or listen to their story for $20. Inevitably, they balk. When I freed myself from religion, it felt like I had thrown away the crutches and was still able to walk...and run. As a Desert Storm Vet, with a husband currently stationed in Kosovo (possibly tentatively), I have concluded that organized religion is the root of all evil. Once again, thank you!

Comments: I became an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church back in the late 60's while attending Penn State, mainly to show my semi-religious parents how easy it was. I am a freethinker now after many years of investigating christian teachings. I feel that it is especially significant to point out that the bible god lied to Adam fom the start, saying that he would die "in the day" that he eats from the tree, then Adam goes on to live 900 plus years. Christian groups that I've consulted on this point claim that "in the day" actually means "as of the day" which implies that Adam was immortal from the start. Then, of what use would have been the "tree of life", which imparts immortality, to Adam; if he were already immortal. It's nearly impossible to twist this Genesis story into anything sensible, no wonder they had to switch to faith!

After Sept. 11th, some of you may have thought to yourself (or out loud) if there was a God, where was it? And you may have gotten some silly assed forwarded email saying "He was giving people on the planes the strength to stay calm and giving the fire fighters courage to rescue all those people." But even Zeus supposedly could control the weather. So why did it have to rain, thus severely hampering rescue efforts? Surely an all powerful God could have arranged for farmers to get all the rain they needed on Sept. 8,9, and 10, then made it sunny the next few days. It would have saved lives.

I used to be an atheist but now I realise that I'm really an agnostic. If you completely reject the idea of any god, without all the facts (which no-one has - or will ever have), you're as ignorant as everyone else. Just think, if you died, and went to hell (or whatever), that would certainly shut you up wouldn't it.

Go out there and tell people what you are about, and prove that Atheists are not the small minority they are thought to be. Lead by example - live a principled and repectful existance - show theists how wrong they are about Atheists. I know it means so much more to me when people show respect for each other because they want to, not cause some deity orders them to. Much respect goes out to Reginald for telling it like it is!

If they would read the whole book(like I have 2 or 3 times), they'll see it is a bunch of concocted fairy tales ,stolen fables and myths from other cultures regurgitated. YOU CANNOT PROVE THAT GOD EXISTS! People are puzzled and confused about the origin of humans, etc. They don't know what happened, so they made up stories. What gets me is when someone tries to prove the inerrancy of the bible by the bible. That's ludacrous, that's like saying the story of cinderella is true because the book of cinderella says so. Perhaps some of you would consider academic balance and argue for the Federal Government to "equally" fund intelligent design theories as it does with your macro-evolution bias; but that would be "objective."

Its rather EZ to promote your "scientific leaps," especially at tax payer expense, while supressing opposing scientific views.

Each School of thought has PRE SUPPOSITIONS which IS NOT the issue. The "objective test" is to defend a position with current scientifc data.

Macro evolution constructs dishonestly begin with the "conclusion" rather than with the evidence.

For those of you brave enough to challange your evolution bias, why not publically debate William Dempski, Michael Behe, J.P. Moreland or an array of "qualified" apologists on the secular university of your choice?

I am a 19 year old college student and sometimes I feel like the only critical atheist in the world or at least the only one that care's about things like knowledge, reason, morality and doing what is right. Sites like this give me hope in the ability of my fellow man to do what is right and reasonable. It lets me know that at least one person is not afraid to come out with his beliefs, no matter how unpopular they may be, and this act helps me get through my day without losing my mind...without just giving in to the dogmas of others. So as I am not good enough with words to fully express what I am trying to say I will end this message with two little words that I hope suffice: Thank you.

Great site, great resources, great fun.
I've been an atheist looking for God all my life. Never found one though. I'm looking cause I want to keep an eye on anything that might be anti-democratic, racist, sexist, and just plain weird. I'm looking because my culture wants me to believe. I just can't fathom any proof of anything greater than the laws of physics that would have a personal impact on me, my friends and family, or any other human on this planet, or animals too.
In all that looking, it is really nice to have a webplace to come and interact with others who refuse to believe without evidence.

Get some of your guests (that have websites) to make links to your site. I know that landoverbaptist.org (hilarious site by the way) has the "Brother Harry Hardwick vs. The Infidel Guy" interview up on their website in the Audio section (they supposedly get 800,000 hits per day)

I'm sure Brother Harry would be more than happy to help you out..

Anyways - keep up the good work with the show

Comments:one of my friends was in a religious studies class, and her teacher put into her head something like that you have to be born an atheist, and if you doubt your beliefs for one moment, then you are no longer an atheist.
i used to go to church, and eventually found it and this 'god' a complete waste of my time. i was born into a religion and belived it, but my beliefs have changed. if what this teacher claims is true, then i would go under the category of 'freethinker'. but now im totally confused as to what an atheist means.

Comments:I've been a closet atheist for quite a while. I'm pretty much over the "I hate God for screwing up my life!" and trying to get through the "Wholly Cow! I'm RESPONSIBLE for my actions and God isn't going to bail me out!" Since the episode of telling Nick not to spit on me (a story in itself), I've learned I can walk away from a lot of abuse I used to think was my fate (the old martyrdom syndrome that was drilled into me as a child)I'm just wondering if anyone knows what I can do for a problem with a fanatic relative that I am somewhat dependent on financially (living with my parents is cheap and I'm a miser). Also, someone by the name of George write a message in the guestbook about his terrible life. I'm not even going to try to match that, all I've got is angst and confusion, not real misery. But I have noticed something about religions that promise an afterlife. The afterlife could be true or false -- no one comes back to report on it. If it's true, then it would be wonderful, but...something very suspicious here, if it's a lie, then people in dire straits would be concentrating all thier attention on praying at a very critical moment, after the realization of the danger to life&limb and before they loss the ability to do anything vigorous due to starvation or disease or injury. During this time, they would be VERY desperate and might strike out at someone they feel responsible, like a landlord, employer, or someone else in auuthority. Unless of course they were persauded that there was an afterlife and that this life was inconsequencial in comparison. Thus civil order could be preserved by a very big lie. It's just a thought.

Comments:"Benevolent Universe Premise"

There is a fundamental conviction which some people never acquire, some hold only in their youth, and a few hold to the end of their days - the conviction that ideas matter...That ideas matter means that knowledge matters, that truth matters, that one's mind matters...

Its consequence is the inablility to believe in the power or the triumph of evil. No matter what corruption one observes in one's immediate background, one is unable to accept it as normal, permanent or metaphysically right. One feels: "This injustice (or terror or falshood or frustration or pain or agony) is the exception in life, not the rule." One feels certain that somewhere on earth - even if not anywhere in one's surroundings or within one's reach - a proper, human way of life is possible to human beings, and justice matters.

Comments:Just a little equal time. I'm sure you wouldn't be
threatened by a differing view... right?

1. Thank You Lord that I don't have to be responsible
for my actions.
2. Thank You Lord that everyone around me always does
the right thing, after all, nothing bad happens to
Christians, right?
3. Thank You Lord for the ability to sum up complex
situations into one sentence in order blame You. I'm so
clever.
4. Thank You Lord for allowing me to figure out that You
give disease. I had been confused for a while.
5. Thank You Lord that I understand the purpose for
every event that happens to every single of the billions of
people on this planet. I do, however, need a good filing
system to keep track of it all.
6. Thank You Lord that life on earth just goes on and on
and on and on and nobody ever dies and that we have
invincible bodies.
7. Thank You Lord that every person ever born is Your
puppet and nobody has to make decisions, good or bad.
8. Thank You Lord for eradicating hate from the world.
It makes the love that I give and receive so much more
meaningful since I have no alternative.
9. Thank You Lord for the marvelous perfection that You
placed in each one of us.
10. Thank You Lord that You gave me a voice for the
specific purpose of denying You. I'm sure You appreciate
that greatly.
11. Thank You Lord that sin has no consequences. It
makes the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross unnecessary and
that way I don't have to deal with it. Neat!
12. Thank You Lord that I can find 1 verse in the Bible
to quote and draw fantastic conclusions from. Who needs all
those other pages anyway?
13. Thank You Lord for ignoring me in my time of need. I
guessed that if I just stood here and did nothing, You
would come to me regardless of my attitude toward You. I'm
sure You were kidding in Isaiah 61:1-3 when You said You
would bind up the broken hearted and give gladness for
mourning.
14. Thank You Lord that You never had a plan of
salvation. It was nice of You to leave us without any way
of escape.
15. Thank You Lord for the wonderful talent of seeing
whatever I choose to see. It makes it much easier to be
witty.
16. Thank You Lord that everybody who does something in
Your name is really sent by You. King Richard was
especially nice. I'm glad that once somebody claims to be a
Christian they automatically become flawless, like me.
17. Thank You Lord that I'm immune from anything in the
world around me. This protective bubble that keeps out
disease and mistakes and bad things in general is comfy.
18. Thank You Lord that everything beautiful must be
grabbed and touched. After all, it is mine for the taking,
right?
19. Thank You Lord that the love You pour out on me
every single second of every single day in ways I will
never fully know requires nothing in return from me. I have
a lot of things to do, You know.
20. Thank You Lord that You created me to understand
everything. Wow! It's so great to have this brain with an
infinite capacity. The best part is that I'm just like You
now.
21. Thank You Lord that I don't have to forgive anyone
who has ever hurt me or intentionally done me wrong. This
bitterness I'm carrying around is great.
22. Thank You Lord that my body is mine and that I will
never have any kind of dependence on You... EVER! I would
really enjoy a red cape with the big "S" on it, too.
23. Thank You Lord that You created everything
perfectly. You knew we would never become prideful with
this utopia and our need for a savior has only increased
with our indestructible bodies and picture perfect lives.
24. Thank You Lord that for all the starving people in
India who deny You and refuse to eat cows because it may be
a reincarnated relative. It gives us great material with
which to blame You.
25. Thank You Lord that I am the creator of the
universe. I don't actually remember creating it, but I'm
sure I did.
26. Thank You Lord that the history of the world is Your
fault. It takes such a load off of me. Fhew!

Thank You Lord that even when we mock You, Your love for us
is endless and Your mercy endures forever.

This isn't sent with anger or hatred. I have nothing but
love for you, even though I don't know you, and I know that
God loves you too. And He isn't bothered by you questions.
He welcomes them. I hope you read all of this as I read all
of yours, and I wish you the best.
