Jeff Sambur Thursday, February 2nd 2012 - 09:05:00 PM jeffsambur@gmail.com Hello! My name is Jeff Sambur, and I recently wrote a book that might be of interest to your members. It is entitled "Destroying Demons on the Diagonal" (A Firefighter's San Diego to Maine Bicycle Ride into Retirement). Here is a short description of the book. Don’t let the title or the cover scare you off; the book is a light hearted account of my San Diego to Maine bicycle ride into retirement. Come along with me as we pedal 6,500 miles to: The Salton Sea, the Colorado River, Route 66, the Continental Divide, the Santa Fe Trail, the Lewis and Clark Trail, the headwaters of the Mississippi, the five Great Lakes, the highest points in three states, and fifteen baseball stadiums. Along the way, we’ll meet farmers, felons, friends (new and old ones), vagabonds and heaps of good natured American folks. There’s history, geography and a few of my musings and opinions. Heck! You might even learn a few fun factoids for the next Trivial Pursuit game. The book is now available online at Amazon.com.The reviews have been positive. All you need to do is search my name. It is now on sale even! Thanks! Please be safe out there, Jeff M. Sambur jeffsambur@gmail.com

Tom Schmidt Friday, April 8th 2011 - 09:21:39 AM tom@greaseninja.com http://www.greaseninja.com Dear Heartland: I would like to introduce the GreaseNinjaTM to your Club Members. We are a group of Motorcycle and Bicycle Enthusiasts located in Southeastern Pennsylvania who have started manufacturing a Drive Chain Lubricator for aerosol lubricants. We did this because during a motorcycle trip out to the GREAT Southwest in the summer of 2009 we were lubricating the chains daily. We just knew there had to be a better way to lubricate the chains without the mess of overspray and resulting cleanup of the wheel and frame. We also were experiencing the same problems with our bicycles (and our kid’s bicycles)…which meant we lubricated the chains very, very infrequently (for some of us, it was more like ‘never’). The cleaning of overspray from the cassette and spokes was very time consuming, and we were not very good at it. We developed the GreaseNinjaTM in early 2010…tested it throughout the summer of 2010 at Motorcycle and Bicycle Dealerships and with other Cyclists. We got some help and went into business in the fall of 2010…making and selling (only $15.00) the GreaseNinjaTM. It really works and it takes only a couple of minutes to lubricate the chain…very easy to use – no more overspray mess! We are excited about the success of the GreaseNinjaTM and hope you will find time to visit our website www.GreaseNinja.com Knowing that you are spending as much time riding as possible, we will not be bothering you with more emails. We hope to hear from you and get your comments on the GreaseNinjaTM. Ride Safe Tom Tom@GreaseNinja.com www.GreaseNinja.com

Ron Sweeney Monday, May 24th 2010 - 02:38:39 PM ron.sweeney@suttle-straus.com http://www.bamsride.com Dear Fellow Cyclist… My team, Fraboni’s Porketta Pedalers, is putting on a fundraising ride to benefit the Wisconsin Chapter of the National MS Society. We are in our fourth year of existence and we bike together all year long, training for the Bike MS event in August. So far we’ve raised over $50,000 for our cause and this year we’ve decided to go all out and organize our own ride. It’s called Bikers Against MS or “BAMS!” for short. We’ve got three routes, all starting from the Capital Brewery in Middleton on June 26th. Registration fees include lunch, goodie bag, pre-ride refreshments, rest stops, t-shirts for those who sign up before June 10th and SAG support. We will have mechanical assistance available prior to each route departure. Ride for those that can’t by supporting the MS Society! We would appreciate any support your group could give us and if you could forward this message to your membership, it would help get the word out. Our website is www.bamsride.com and our active.com registration page is: http://www.active.com/cycling/middleton-wi/bikers-against-ms-ride-2010 Thanks! Ron Sweeney

Nancy Wednesday, March 10th 2010 - 06:16:18 AM npeb@gmail.com Love your website. Although I was born and raised in Wisconsin I relocated to extreme Southernmost Illinois due to poor tolerance to the winter, but have always missed my home state. We in Southern Illinois organized a ride last year for the first time and it was a huge success. See it at tourdeshawnee.org We are between the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers with a rest area on both rivers. Our rides are 15-30-62-100 miles and we have southern home cooking at our rest areas. We are not FLAT like the central and northern areas> The Shawnee National forrest has always reminded me of the Kettle Moraine at Dousman Wisconsin. Hope some can come down, we are 400 miles south of Chicago. Visitors can shop in Kentucky, Missouri & Indiana Go Packers!!!!!

Will Andresen Monday, April 13th 2009 - 02:44:41 PM will.andresen@ces.uwex.edu Greetings from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula! Gogebic Community College - located in Ironwood, Michigan - has created a new Nordic Ski Team for the 2009-2010 season! This new program may be a perfect fit for skiers passionate about the sport and wanting to spend more time on snow to meet their skiing goals. Ironwood is usually the first place in the Midwest to have plenty of snow and great early season skiing. And it’s home to some of the best trails in the Midwest, including ABR and Wolverine ski trails (one of the best “perks” for GCC skiers will be season passes to both of these trail systems). Plus, the college is built on a ski hill with its own small Nordic ski trail. I’m very excited about the opportunity to coach this new ski team. After graduating from high school in Eau Claire, I received a scholarship to compete for Northern Michigan University. While at Northern, I qualified for the NCAA National Championships my first three years and was the lead-off skier on the NCSA National Champion relay team in my senior year. For many years, Nordic skiing was my life. I didn’t meet all of my goals, but I came about as close as possible to my potential – and fell in love with the sport. I also fell in love with the snow, trails and weather of the U.P. I’m a wave 1 Birkie skier – equally proficient in skating and striding – and a sub 3 hour marathoner. I’m currently training for my second 100 mile trail run this summer. I hope to share my passion for the sport with today’s collegiate skiers. My coaching philosophy will be to create individual training and racing programs to meet the specific background, talents and goals of each skier. We will compete in Central Collegiate Ski Association races plus a few citizen races. Ironwood will host four high quality ski races in 2009-2010, including the Grandview Ski Challenge (December 12-13), the Stormy Kromer Pursuit (January 2-3), the (new!) Sisu Ski Marathon (January 9) and the ABR Spring Race (March 15th). One of the first races for the year and one of the last - plus skiing by Thanksgiving and into April – can’t beat that! All travel expenses, entry fees and team uniforms – plus season passes at both ABR and Wolverine Ski Trails - will be covered by the college. Starting this fall, GCC will also be offering a cross-country running team which skiers may choose to join if they’d like. Gogebic Community College is an affordable college experience with a very strong academic transfer program plus programs specializing in ski area management, nursing and business. The college offers new on-campus housing and excellent educational and recreational facilities http://www.gogebic.cc.mi.us/AboutGCC/ If you have any questions or would like additional information, please respond to this message or contact me at the below phone numbers. Skiers can also complete and submit this form: http://www.gogebic.cc.mi.us/athletics/recruit.htm Will Andresen, Coach Men’s and Women’s Nordic Ski Team Gogebic Community College 104 E.
