First saw TH at Central Park in 1980, then at the Calderone in Hempstead, NY. In 1982. Tina was very pregnant then. I worried about the baby getting brained in utero by her bass guitar. They I saw them at Forrest Hill for the Stop Making Sense Tour. To this day the best musical performance ever.

Unusual and cool idea. Saw Talking Heads in Dec 79 at The hemel Hempstead Pavillion, Hertfordshire, UK and it both changed my life and set me on a musical road of discovery and exploration that continues today. I work in radio as DJ, currently in South-East Asia and still buy the music. They have cost me a fortune over the last 30 years - money well spent!

Surely I remember the release of 77 vividly. I was in the (then vinyl only)shop the moment they brought the first copies in. Been a fan since then, saw them many in times in Belgium, and even in Santa Barbara, CA when we were on honeymoon then.

I was living in Boston when this album came out. My roommate brought it home, and we popped it onto the trusty turntable. Haven't been the same since! One of the most interesting American bands ever! Too bad I never had the opportunity to see them live!

Congratulations on 30 years!!!! I've been a TALKING HEADS FAN forever. I've followed the band through it's ups & down. Tina is the greatest bass player. David is the main head. I'm sorry to say I never had the privledge to actually see the whole band together, but it's still early. I'm not that familiar with the drummer Chris that originally started with Tina at the TomTom club. And lets see; who else, duh Jerry Harrison. Wow, I am dating my age as it shows, I'm 55 years old in real life. 77 years old physically. And emotionally 7 years old. I am the 7th child of 9. 7 is my lucky number so we do have a lot in common. Maybe this will be lucky year coming up. I might get to see you all together for the first time in my life!
So keep on talking you heads, thank you for all your great music that changed our lives forever!!!!!!! xxxoooxox

One of the truly great bands. If you never saw them in concert, then you have no idea. '77 was the year my folks moved us from the Bay Area to the Chicago area, and that fall I started High School. Change was everywhere for me, and this album really struck a cord with where I was at the time. It was unconventional, thought-provoking, and totally new. I consider myself blessed to have been around to know this band for the entire arc of their time together. Every album was a foray into new sounds, new rhythms, new thoughts and ideas. Just sublime. Thanks for all the incredible music and memories.

Having hosted several 18 Hour TH Marathons, I can't tell you in a few words how important and influential this group of musicians were and continue to be. It was one of my favorite moments in radio (ever!) when I got to talk to Mr. Frantz about his time in TH, Tom Tom Club, and the (then forthcoming) BRICK box-set. Remastering thier entire catalog in surround. How Talking-Heads of them. In 7/7 tradition, the last show we did for the band in 2005 was held on Thursday, July 7th. :) Continued best to the band, and all those who love thier music.

Talking Heads defined my adolescence. After purchasing the Stop Making Sense cassette (with the super-nifty booklet!) in February '85, I persuaded my father to take me to see the movie when it premiered the following weekend. I still consider it my "aesthetic" passage into adulthood (I was 14 at the time) and one of the few truly life-altering musical experiences I've known.
By the end of the year, I owned every TH album released to that point (including the newborn Little Creatures, which I took to heart immediately). All were cassettes (plus a beat-up Remain In Light 8-track a neighbor found for me), with one vinyl exception...Talking Heads:77. It was the last day of summer vacation before my sophomore year. Cactus Records (RIP) in Sharpstown Center (as good as RIP these days) was having a $3.99 WEA midline sale and rather than wait for the tape to restock (and running the risk of paying full price by the time it did), I opted for the wax. A smart move in retrospect...how could anyone short-change themselves on that cover? (I've wondered about the similarities to the Never Mind The Bollocks artwork myself...what's the deal, Warners?) There are a few Heads albums I like better, but you gotta tip your cap to Square One. So I was pleased to learn of this site and I'll be sure to tip its existence off to my listeners this Tuesday when I salute :77 by my own design. Cheers to you, Bucks!

I bought TH’77 the week it was released, after hearing Psycho Killer & other tracks on WQBK-FM, in Albany NY. I liked this music so much but wasn’t even sure WHY – since it didn’t sound like anything else I was into at the time. Talking Heads came up to Albany to play on 11/17/77
(as the opening act for The Good Rats @ Page Hall, SUNY). Alas, I couldn’t go to see my NEW favorite band play that night, because I already had a ticket to see my OLD favorite band play that same night: RUSH (!!) Just goes to show you where I was at: 16 years old & everything was changing…even the music. I did finally get to see Talking Heads live in the spring of ’78, across the river at Hullabaloo Club in Rensselaer, NY. A show I'll never forget. By this time they were already performing tunes from their forthcoming 2nd album. Saw them 5 more times after that. Progressivley bigger venues. (Progressively bigger band, too, for that matter!) When my last turntable died, I repurchased 77 on cassette. Years later, I bought it again on CD. Probably in a few years I'll have the Talking Heads 77 microchip implanted in my skull, if that's what's next. Irony is that this album had already been implanted in my skull now for 30 years. I yi yi yi yi

While the Heads reached enlightenment with Brian Eno, 77 is bursting with twitchy, paranoid power. Seems like every day I mention one of its classic lines, my favorites being: "talk to your analyst, isn't that what he's paid for," "realisant mon espoir, je me lance vers la gloire, OK" and "my building has every convenience, it's going to make life easy for me." The alchemy of Byrne/Frantz/Harrison/Weymouth made for something undeniably original.

It wasn't just music. Rather, it was dizzying neuro-music that rock and rolled right down to the telencephalonic circuits themselves. An alchemy of rhythm, art, autism and synaptic transmission. Talking Heads '77 was the first in a line of albums that to this day has yet to be surpassed in terms of brilliance and trippy sonic gestalt.
