You have a very good site being you started in 1990. I have come to a standstill on my research on the Hanson/Henson (my grandmother was Annie Belle Henson/Hanson) connection. She was born in LA but I know they did not orginally come from there but moved there to get work back in the late 1800's. Samuel Wilson Henson was my ggrandfather and his father's name was John and on Samuel's death certificate, it listed John as coming from the UK. Can't prove or disprove this since LA was not exactly good about keeping records back then. Congratulations on your new grandbaby and enjoy it and your genealogical research. J. W. Henson has done extensive research on John Tilman Monroe Henson, our grandfather. He came up blank on the details surrounding the death of our great grandfather Wiley Henson. Pearl Ina Harkins Henson's gravesite at Tails Creek Baptist Church Cemetery is lost. She was buried in an unmarked grave and the clerk's notes concerning location of gravesites was lost in a fire. My father who at one time knew the location of the gravesite, could not locate it on his last trip to the cemetery. |

| Comments: | I am a direct descendant of Alfred M. Chance and Hannah Allen. David Chance married Frances LYON (Not SIMPSON), per marriage bond dated June 24, 1853. David and Frances had 2 other children in addition to Annie; Frances b. 1866 (my grandmother) and Nancy b. 1868. David and Frances left NC in 1870 for Mo. where they lived until David's death in 1904. Frances Lyon Chance, went on to Colorado with Nancy's family, and where the families of the other 2 daughters had also moved. Frances died in 1910 and is buried in the Eaton Colorado cemetery, as are her 3 daughters and most of their children.
I have looked at Thomas as the possible father of Alfred M. Chance, but have not been able to find sources or documentation to prove it for certain. Living a long way from NC and not having access to records makes it somewhat difficult to get info. What sources or documentation have you found which proves this? It will be great to be able to get my Chance line back to MD. I knew the line started there, but just haven't been able to bridge that gap. |

When we find those who make up the past, we are confronted with the need to justify how we deal with that which has been contributed to the present, our present. Thus, we are compelled to reflect on how we live, how we love and how we present the essence of what we were given to those yet to come. Lost in the dust of time are the motives and relationships of imperfect people in imperfect times. Yet we celebrate our ancestors because they gave us life, and we have passed it on. Documents and dates are merely the sterile pegs upon which we hang our existance. But our very existance is as alive and rich as theirs must have been. We pay tribute to our family past, and trust our offspring to live their heritage wisely. |
