I guess I must have signed the old guest book. Just made contact with a Heather Bancroft in Winnipeg. Frederick Bancroft emigrated there in 1906 from Ilkley and took his nine children. Heather says she has a photo of one of the children Harry on a horse in World war 1. He joined up 5 July 1915 in the Canadian forces but not sure what happened to him. Does anybody have information on other Bancrofts in Winnipeg, apart from William b 1903. When I last contacted you in Nov. 2009 I made the mistake of thinking my 3x Grandfather was Abraham Bancroft I have since found out it was Philomen Bancroft born c.18O8 in the Halifax area of Yorkshire. I know where he was upto his death in Bradford round about 1873 but I don't know where he is buried. I am related to William Bancroft (1818-1900) and Mary Ann (Willows) Bancroft (1825-1915)and Williams Brother David and his wife Charlotte originally of Lincolnshire England who sailed to USA on the packet ship Blackhawk in 1854 ,William and Mary finally settled in Caradoc township ,Ontario Canada, as for David and Charlette we are are stumped and have not been able to follow them after they were all rescued from the sinking of the Blackhawk, I started tracing the family tree in Feb.2010 as my Grandmother is going to be 84 in Sept. didn't know much about the Bancroft Lineage but we have beeen able to make great strides and would love to share info with any others searching the Bancroft tree's.It is a delight to bring her small tidbits of family history when I visit her at her home , and I am so proud of my family history when ever I discover new info . Looking Forward to sharing with all the Bancrofts. |

My GGG Grandfather & Grandmother were Anthony & Hannah (nee Howarth), both of Warley, Halifax. My descent is via James, Arthur, Lionel (grandfather, born in Halifax, died in Hull) & father Arthur Clifford (born in Blackburn, died in Hull). I was born in Hull 1936 but now live in Wiltshire. Until recently I have concentrated on my mother's family but am now starting on the Bancrofts, so do not have a wealth of information yet. I live near Bradford-on-Avon where I note there is an enclave of Bancrofts. Any connection between them and the Yorkshire Bancrofts? |
