My name is Abigail Ramirez, I am recent grad from the University of La Verne,CA I don't know any other means of getting in contact with the ULV chapter, so I am emailing you. I would like to ask for your organizations' help in a much needed community service activity. I am a teacher at Simons Middle School in Pomona,CA and we need a Cheer Coach. Financially, the school is not well off, so we can not offer monetary compensation. But the children are dedicated, and motivated. They have very few opportunities to see positive role models, and I know your organization can make a valuable and impressive impact. They practice once a week from 2:15 to about 3 PM ( this can be changed to fit your needs), you will need to attend school games 1-2 times a month. In total about 1 hour a week is all we are asking. One of our alumna, Bridget (Gardner) Ambriz recently suffered the loss of her husband due to a car accident. http://www.ocregister.com/ocregister/homepage/abox/article_1157206.php Bridget and her 3 year old daughter, Kaitlyn need OUR help. The Orange County Phi Sigma Sigma Alumnae Chapter is currently putting together a gift basket with gift certificates for groceries, etc. for Bridget and her daughter. The OC Alum Chapter is also making a donation as a chapter to Kaitlyn's college fund. If you would like to donate, the OC Alum chapter is accepting gift cards from whichever store you would like (Ralphs, Vons, Target, etc.). If you would like to donate to Kaitlyn's college fund, please send a check payable to Phi Sigma Sigma, with "Kaityln's College Fund" in the memo. The OC Chapter will be writing one large check to the college fund once all the money is collected. If you are not able to donate a gift card or money, please think of what Bridget is going through and send her and her family a sympathy card. Volunteers Needed To Fulfill The Wishes of Children The United We Paint Coalition (UWP) announced that volunteer efforts on Saturday, May 20, 2006 will revitalize San Rafael Elementary School in Pasadena absolutely free of charge. California Credit Union has united its financial and employee resources to make this event a reality throughout Pasadena. Caring citizens are invited to join California Credit Union employees as they embark on revitalizing the exterior of the school. Painting is the primary focus with a secondary emphasis on landscaping and campus cleaning. The United We Paint Coalition is seeking volunteers to help beautify San Rafael Elementary. All volunteers receive a free lunch, official volunteer t-shirt, and the once in a lifetime experience of helping those less fortunate. All paint and supplies are provided. Groups are encouraged to volunteer. Children allowed with parental supervision (please contact for more information) Info: No Special Skills required. Everything is provided! About San Rafael Elementary: San Rafael was established in 1918 with Victorian Architecture. San Rafael has established a unique school-wide special education inclusion program. There are few schools in the county with such a strategy to place all special needs students in regular classrooms and then continuously monitor their progress to ensure their IEP goals are met. This has been a terrific learning experience and model for other programs to interface with all of the regular school programs. San Rafael has a student body of 450 students (13% African-American, 70% Hispanic, 15% Caucasian, and 2% others). San Rafael is a very neglected school with a very small percentage of children attending from the immediate neighborhood. Approximately 3/4 of the students ride the bus to school.
