| Comments: | I've become a fan of yours from listening to Ann Downing's recording "Travellin' Light," which is EXCELLENT and TREMENDOUS. I've so enjoyed your tracks and the background vocals. I also noticed that you and she co-wrote at least one of the songs on the project. I'm a gospel music pianist and organist and have been since I was a kid. Recently completed a CD with a men's trio (TMT) on which I was both the keyboard player and the baritone singer. Kind of unusual for somebody my age.
Ann Sanders and I met at a "singing convention" about 1966, and she ("bless her heart") remembered that for some reason here in 2009, so we've reconnected and have reminisced about "singing schools" and mutual acquaintances in North Mississippi. Skip lives very close to me here in Hendersonville, Tenn. and has recording studio where he does a lot of didital editing. I am off the road and semi retired although I sub sometimes on the raod with the Oaks, T. Graham Brown and the Bellamy Brothers. I do enjoy being home most of the time here on the lake and work in my home studio where I write and record projects for other writers and album projects for performers. I also play B3 at the First Assemly of God just up the street for 2 services each Sunday.

It has been many years ago I seen you play with the Oak Ridge Boys. It was at THE ROCK VALLEY COLLEGE in Rockford,IL. I think it was the summer of 1979. THE OAK RIDGE BOYS "HAVE ARRIVED" album had just came out. You all were the original band when they started playing country music. I have seen the group several times since you left. There is nothing that can replace the sound of the piano! That is what made GOSPEL,COUNTRY,AND ROCK music so great. I remember you balancing a cane. I just saw that on one of the videos on You Tube. I am a record collector and have some of The Keystones albums,I have "Once Again" and all The Oak Ridge Boys albums you played on in my collection. I collect a little bit of all kinds of music. I am not into this so called Rock today,Hip Hop or Rap. I have over 5,000 LP in my collection. I was wondering what ever happened to the old band as I could not find any thing about them on The Oaks web-site anymore. So I started looking and found your web-site. I have been trying to walk a mile on my tread mill every night. I was doing good for a while and feeling good too, until I got a stress fracture on my foot. How disappointing! The Dr. said I am healing up very well. I have been wearing "the boot" for 3 weeks. I am happy to say the dr. said I could start wearing my shoe again!! I will wear the boot when I walk on the tread mill. I don't want to fracture my foot again! I know you are looking forward to S****g, Garland. I still love the cold weather. I was as student at Trevecca Nazarene College and like everyone else, looking for a band as a bass player. I was invited to audition for the Downings and you advised me to pass on that one. I have memories of the swimming pool at your apartment and then spending some time at the Oaks studio on Rockland Road. Kathy McClintogh (sp?), the Oaks secretary and I became casueal friends as well. I remember learning the bass line for every song the Oaks were recording in the event Don was going decide to stay off the road with the Oaks.

You have a more vivid memory of the details of certain shows than I do, but I have not forgotten too many people I have crossed paths and shared the road with! I do sorta recall an altercation with you hitching a ride afterwards in protest but I was not privy to what that was about. I know I was sorry that it happened but never have had any idea about what it was about. Nonetheless, it is always good to hear from an old friend and I am glad you haven't forgotten ME!!! Are you still in the Knoxville area? And may I ask are you still in the sound business? You were good so I would imagine you have continued. I am semi-retired and stay home almost all the time and work in my home studio. Can tou believe, I learned how to run a board? Now I record and I use Cubase. I have worked on other systems and they seem to all have avantages over the one another,but I had the most experience with Cubase and was tutored in it, and for my small operation, it serves my needs.

today i came across a post on your fansite which mentioned a busch gardens appearance by the oak ridge boys and realized that i worked that show ! you may not remember me but, we first met on the road in 1979 while i was on hire to a production company from knoxville and soon thereafter became a hired sound contractor in my own right for numerous (and memorable for me) engagements with the oaks. it was regretably soon that i had to pass on the opportunity to be first called for their engagements due to the quick ascension of their popurlarity and my limited capital resource at the time but, i was flattered to have been called later for several private and personal shows. one of those was a coal company party in west va where they renovated on of their garage buildings right down to refinishing the concrete floor and hanging drapes on the walls and around the stage. i was impressed. another was at busch gardens where i was presented the task of 'amplifying' the show in such a way that that did not offend the early arriving, established and, blue haired following of the oak's who took up seats in the front while arousing the later arriving fans of their recent genre of music who were standing behind (the house mix position) me. my last show with the boys was in a georgia music park on my birthday and, i can't recall the year but, they sang happy birthday to me onstage (of which i have a recording) and after the show in the back of 'chocolate' bill rolled the last of what was on the tray and the boys gave it to as a birthday present. you and i next crossed paths in knoxville at a listener appreciation show in 1989 promoted by radio station wivk for whom i was working and had been retained as production manager for the event. tony brown was on that show and my memory is vague as to how/why i left town after the show that night with y'all headed for johnson city and, points points beyond. i remember going up and down the road with tony working solo appearances, several in tandem with dwight yoakem, once on jimmy rogers day (along with conway twit) in meridian and, the last one i recall was in new orleans after which i hitchhiked back to nashville with a trucker following a falling out with tony's brother. LOL, i don't remember what it was about but, i think it had something to do with stress and for sure, there's no hard feelings. anyhow, what brought about my inspiration to contact you was my reviewing the online video abstracts of this year's cma ceronomy and having recognized many friends and being reminded of the entertainer, performer and, musician acquaintences that i have made over the years who have made such deep impressions on my spiritual purpose and hopefully that of others. i certainly hope to here from you, larry |

Didn't want to hurt the integrity and beauty off this magnificent melosy written in 1755 (I believe) but wanted to give it a contemporary treatment. Thamks to the production ideas of my daughter Amberly, we did just that! I am thrilled with the way it sounds. CAROL OF THE BELLS another one, thought it would be less than dynamic, but Amberly really loves it.

Just stopped by to say hello and let you know I am well and enjoying summer here in middle Tennessee. I have been fortunate to have lived here on the lake near Nashville for most of the 35 years I have been here. I just learned a new CD of classic Oak Ridge Boys music will be released this month with a song of mine called HE NEVER SAID A WORD. It is on New Haven Recordings. I am reminded every day and especially at times like this how fortunate I am that I started writing songs for a group I was with called the Keystones who performed just about verything I wrote which led to groups like the Oaks hearing them and then recording them and giving my writing career a start. Hung out with Jimmy fulbright of the Oaks band Sturday and after church yesterday.Played B-3 at church (organ) and visited with Rusty Golden. He has really had quite some success lately with a big hit song he wrote in gospel music for Ernie Haas and Signature Sound.(JOHN IN THE JORDAN) I co-wrote a song that I think may get recorded in the country field.(THAT'S A GOOD TRY) It's a rodeo song and not what I usually write but after researching the rodeo lingo and coming up with a good beat, it turned out to be a good one. One music row big wig (don't want to jinx it so I'll be sorta vague here) says he believes it's a BIG HIT!! That's all I can think of right now that may be interesting. See you later! |

| Comments: | Well, here we are in the middle of the winter holidays. I celebrated a great Christmas and I am looking forward to a wonderful new year. Thought I'd stop in and see what's happenin' here. Haven't talked to you Jaymie in a few days now. So I'll just say right here, HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and to all the friends and visitors here. Can't believe it will be 2008 in a few days. However, the beginning of the year always suggests to me that we are over the hump and headed toward SPRING and SUMMER!!! (I know that winter just started but my mindset is askew I suppose because it seems like this week is EXACTLY the peak between uphill and now I'm headed downhill toward my favorite time of year!)

Now I had some idea of the progressions on that first song already in my head but just made it up as I began to play an arrangement of those ideas. So glad you like it though! Merry Christmas! |
