| Comments: | The story is unbelievable to see Cleo has had 14 male dogs...It makes me laugh ... I have 2 Berners , 1 born on Oct. 24th also , but in 2004 ... Nikko is 2.5 yrs old and Goliath (my giant) is born December 10th, 2002 (4.5yrs) ..
They are the sunshine of my life , and I bring myself to read veteran dogs and the ones that passed on to doggie heaven... My heart goes out to these loving dogs ..they are so special . I can't imagine the day I will lose one of them ... it scares me so much already. I hope they get to live the longest of BMD lives which is about 12-13 yrs old ... We have a Bordernese (at least we are fairly sure) At first sight we thought he was a Border Collie, but on closer examination we saw a kind,soft face and considered the possibility of a mix with a Spaniel of some kind, but he has the look of a Bernese about him. Photo's on the Internet have confirmed this for us. We got Ollie (previously known as Max) from a rescue centre in Herfordshire. He had been locked up in a shed in filth, won't go into further details. At first he was a dominant serious dog. We made him know we were the Alpha members of the 'pack' and he eats when we have finished eating, goes through doorways after us and is thanked for barking (once or twice only) for letting us know if there is a stranger around or a knock at the door. He sleeps in the kitchen in a mesh crate (door open) at night and with the door locked when we go out for a couple of hours. He did not play at first but now he is quite mad. We have a special toy which he can only have when we are ready to play, he has others of course but we need to make him know we are in charge. He loves to run and will go off on his own if allowed (and no, he is not allowed!) His main hobby is--------being with us. Ollie is between 3 and 5 years old at best guess. | Comments: | 1 and a half months ago we lost our bernese mountain dog, he had a tumour in his heart and lasted longer than any vet expected he died peacefully in his sleep with a smile on his face as always and his sister by his side. up until the evening he died he was hs usual self no signs of anything. it seems to be a trademark of them never wanting to give up. im 16 and after 9 and a half years it has affected me more than ever as he got me through the las two years when 3 of my friends died and one of my horses and now he isnt here its like a huge part missing in the famly. however we will not have another as he was one ina million and it wouldnt be fair to compare another to him. so i understand how you feel. |

He weighed in at a wopping 19.3 pounds!Born on March 26,2006. Purchased from ampaws.com Larry and Mary Schnell, Mexico, Missouri. His name is DUKE. An extremely affectionate, intelligent, quick lerner! His father is Lincoln and Mom Lexi. Just a little question- he loves to bite your hands.. ankles....I am sure it is his teething.. right? Any suggestions? First timers for this type if puppy. Our other dog was a Shepherd/Lab mix and he lived just shy of 16. I realize that this breed doesn't have that kind of life expectancy- Thanks again..

Thanks for your message on my Longlease Guest Book. With all my dogs I just give them a good brush every few days, when they are shedding I use a comb to strip out the old undercoat. I rarely bathe them but we do lots of walks in the rain which keeps their coats wonderfully soft. I feed sardines and other oily fish regularly for a healthy sheen. But my dogs are country dogs and running around outside most of the days, during the winter when it is very muddy their white bits tend to get a pink tinge, we have very heavy red clay soil here and they get very muddy a lot! If I wanted them to look immaculately groomed then would be another matter. I would take them to a professional groomers then for the full works! There is a group on Yahoo for owners of Bernese Mountain Dogs, it is an International Group of some 2000+ owners of Berners Worldwide. I know discussions come up a lot on Berner L re. grooming and you will get the best advice here as to which grooming tools to buy. I am in the UK so no use telling you what I use, the brand names US are different. | Comments: | About 2 years ago I read your website, having done a search for the horrible cancer Samson had. My beloved Golden Retriever 'Bandit'(15 years 6mths) had just been diagnosed with it, and I wanted to know more about it. Sadly it was little more than a week before I could bare to see him suffering anymore. It was the hardest decision I've ever made, but I knew he could never get better and his quality of life was fast becoming very poor. Baring in mind his age and that he was declining so rapidly, Chemo just simply wasn't an option.This was nearly 2 years ago now but I think about him ever day.
Your website made quite a differnce to our lives, as we got to find out about Bernese. We took our time, considering if they were the right breed for us. We visited discover dogs, several small bernese shows, and asked lots of people advice. Finally we got to choose "Bruin." He's the most delightful and wonderful Bernese puppy! I write this 4 days after his first birthday. It was probably not in the happiest circumstances that I originally read your website, but i thank you for sharing Samsons story, as we found out just how wonderful Bernese are! |

He is my best friend and he is at my side 24 hours a day, no joke!!! For those of you who are interested in a BMD or are getting one, you will be very happy with your little investment!!!! I have a 3 year old rottie I rescued from a shelter that ended up with Kidney disease and she has stopped eating her Hills KD. Dogs & other breeds for decades, but to help in the research of illness as well. There is no bigotry when it comes to exploiting and abusing dogs and puppies by people with no values,or morals,when their goal worldwide is to make money by exploiting and abusing our four legged friends and albeit,kids !! We hope that one at a time, folks will write to the above e.mail address, and express their thoughts and experiences, so that our attempt to bring this information to the Oprah Winfrey Show, hoping that she will do a show on these atrocities will be indeed succesful !! Willem Wijnberg,who came up with this idea,is doing and has done so much for so long to help our '4 legged kids', can be honored for all he gives if people just go their computers and express what they know is the Truth about the mills,and other venues of atrocities.. Nice to find these web-sites.I just found out that my 6yr old rott has Lymphosarcoma.My girls name is Mally and has been my pride & joy since I brought her home at 6wks.She goes for a biopsy on thursday so I can know how long I'll have left with her.I tried really hard 10yrs ago to save my cocker who had gotten a blood disese.Don't think I want to put her thru the chemo,which after reading all these sites is the only way to buy here some extra time.But still do not know what to do.Just wanted to thank you for the site..
