Simple good clean, innocent music. It is saddening to see all these Icon's of Music, who have passed recently, slowly leaving us. Makes you wonder when it's your turn. Rest In Peace Phil You will be remembered and treasured for centuries to come, of that I am sure.

Comments:I got attracted to the sound of the Everly Brothers when
they started out in 1957. An odd thing for a 3 year old
boy to get interested in. I pestered my folks to buy me
their first album, THEY'RE OFF AND ROLLING which featured

I have followed them the whole time since then. When The Beatles came along in 1964, I split my affection between the two acts. A dream came true for me in 1984 when Paul McCartney gave the Everly's a new song for their comeback album. To this day it is one of my favorite songs by anybody. A great rocker called ON THE WINGS OF A NIGHTINGALE. Surprising it only rose to no. 50 on Billboard. It is stunning.

The topper to my story is that during the year of the comeback I had a son born and at 3 years old he learned to read by looking at the back of Everly Brothers albums and trying to pick out the names of songs.

My son also mastered the guitar in later years because of Don and Phil.

All we have now are great memories and a few autographs
we gathered at concerts. The Everly Brothers were a major
thing in my life.

No more Bird Dog
But it is The price of love
For me Always it's you
If i hear him sing That will be the day
No I醡 not angry
His sound is Like Strangers
I am Crying in the rain, but Don't blame me
It's The love of my life, Oh what a feeling
Bye Bye Philand Bye Bye love
His Ebony eyes is like a Wings on a Nightingale

Love is strange but When will i be loved

Comments:I had the pleasure of meeting Phil in Jan. of 1998 at the NAMM show in Los Angeles. Had met his son Jason the year before. I sent him some songs for an Everly Bros. project. Phil told me that he, and his brother could not decide what format the album would be, so they decided not to do it. I mentioned that I was writing songs with James Burton, who had played on a number of their albums. Phil thought I was a country guy. I said yes, and no. I'm like you I do a little of everything. He went on to give me an impromptu class on songwriting, using Irving Berlin as an example. He told me to keep writing all the time, you never know what will take off. We took a picture together and I told him that I could honestly say that he and his brother were among my influences. He thanked me and said , that if your working with James, I'm sure you'll do well. I've always included their songs old, and new, in my shows. My black jumbo Taylor is modeled after the Everly's guitar. I've got a new album coming out this year "A Song For All Seasons". There's a song I wrote " Hey Little Lindsay" it's got the Everly feel to it. I saw them 4 times after the reunion. I will always remember Phil's kindness, and sincerity towards me. I wish that all entertainers had Phil's class, and humility. I've always joked that if I ever had a little girl, I would name her Everly Marie. God bless you Phil, I'm sure you went straight to heaven, on the Wings Of A Nightingale!

The world, not just the world of music, but the whole world lost a beautiful man when you died. Your wonderful voice and outlook on life always brightened my day. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. At least we have so much of your music to console us.

It is my habit to memorialize someone of such great influence through a poem. I can't think of a better place to share it than here.

Pure was the voice of the man who sang
High was the register at which it rang
Impish was the grin, crooked on the star
Left-handed was the man who strummed the guitar

Endearing, and with his heart on his sleeve
Vainly, we had hoped he would never leave
Eternalized by his part in rock 'n' roll
Reflected by artists reflecting his soul
Living through music as long as it plays
Yes, he'll outlive his life by infinite days

I remember so well buying my first 45 record with my babysitting money. I always bought my records at the same place and when I bought "Wake Up Little Susie" the cashier who was older asked me what the song was about and when I told her she said "if that was my daughter, oh would she be in trouble." Such an innocent time and such fun and wonderful music. I remember we would have dance days during phys ed class when we could bring our records and the teacher would let us dance "for exercise". I always took my Everly albums and was teased unmercifully by the boys in my school because the Everly's had "long hair" (they all had flat tops or crew cuts) Jealousy reared it's ugly head! Never stopped me from loving you Phil and nothing ever will. I'm so sorry to all the family members, especially Don. What you did for all of us can't be expressed in words. Just know, when we hear your music, we stop and listen gratefully and say thanks to you!!

Comments:Thank you, Phil Everly.

So many of us are in your debt (and many of us don't even know it). Aside from the joy of listening to your music, the artists that you influenced and helped to develop are many and are among our planet's greatest.

Whether music fans enjoy Metallica, Justin Bieber or Foo Fighters, those (virtually all pop music) lineages will trace directly back through the Everlys. My simple point is this: "No Everlys = no Beatles. No Beatles = no us."

I, (and I am merely one of many), have had hit records and have built a privileged life by trying my own hand at creating simple melodies, harmonies and catchy pop songs - skills I learned from the Everlys and others they influenced.

For my 2nd CD on PolyGram, I covered an Everly Bros tune (that my rec company declined to put onto the line up). It was a great version and I so wish they'd heard it.

On January 26, 2014, on CBS, the Grammys will honor The Beatles with the Lifetime Achievement Award. This would never have been without Phil Everly and if you are tuned in, Don, this is your award, too.

Thanks, again.

Just to say that I was so saddened and shocked by Phil's death just two weeks ago. I am sure we will all miss him.

I have pleasure in watching the Everly Brothers perform on three occasions, all at the Royal Albert Hall. The first was at the Reunion Concert on September 22 1983, again in 1991 with guest star Duane Eddy, and once again in 1995. Since Phil's death I sang Everly Brothers songs at my local karaoke.

All I would say is that if we never had the Everly Brothers,
we would surely have never had the Beatles. Their influence in popular music was phenomenal.

Rest in Peace, Phil.

I became enamored with their marvelous harmony as a young teenager in 1983 at the time of their reunion concert and the subsequent albums. I spent the rest of my life searching for and listening to every recording of them I could. I lived in Germany 3 years and was amazed to find albums there that they sung in German and Italian! One of the most exciting moments of my life was getting to meet both Phil and Don after a concert in Tampa, Florida in the 1990s. Phil graciously took the time for a photo to be taken of me and him. Oh how I treasure that photo! I wish love mad peace to Phil's family and friends! Take great care of yourself, Don. So many people love and care about you!

Comments:The news about Phil's passing hit me hard, despite not speaking with him since the summer of '81 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds when he jubilantly predicted "Twins!" for the upcoming birth of our son. I'm not that far behind either brother in age, so I never believed I'd see one of them depart this old world before me.
He, Don and I spent a lot of time together during their reunion tours in NYC in 1969-1970. One evening while everyone was upstairs relaxing between shows at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, a gal asked me if I knew the opening chords to "Wake Up, Little Susie." Told her I could show her and asked Phil if I could borrow his Gibson. He said, "Sure, Jim." I played the chords for her in the adjoining room when one of them, probably Don, yelled, "Hey, get that down on tape. Sounds like it could be a hit!"
I'll miss Phil's humor, harmony and gentle spirit, and I take pride in 2 things: All three of us served in the USMC, and that I was able to give them several mentions in my current novel, "RERUN."

Big Band, Swing,Pop,Country, there was always music, but it was the Everly Brothers that introduced me to harmony in the way that only they could do it. It was the key to unlock the soul of a young boy born into that wonderful time of music. Their music said things I could feel but not speak; they were my feelings put to music. They were, in fact, the musical score of my early life. I will always think of Phil and Don whenever I play the wonderful music of that time. The passing of Phil Everly has left a void in my musical life that is unreplaceable. You are so very missed but never forgotten. In fact, I'm 20 years old and I was totally devasted when I heard the news via Brian Wilson's facebook page. The loss of Phil really saddens me because the Everly Brothers really influenced the rock we have today. Beach Boys and Beatles were largely inspired by this band.

I am in a punk band in Montreal and use the vocal lines and techniques the Everly did in the fifties.

Phil, we love you all and surely will be missed worldwide. You will never be forgotten and your music will be immortal.

Lucky enough to go backstage after the show I found Phil to be a humble, soft-spoken, funny man. I went back to Central City for several more years & was lucky enough to be able to work on stage as part of the crew & Phil was always gracious to everyone. I was heartbroken to hear of his death. The world is missing one of the most beautiful voices to ever grace the stage. He will be missed.

to say that I was an obsessed fan is putting it mildly - I was in touch with the nat'l fan club president and sent a scrapbook that I had put together to her and she had the boys sign it - also had some old pics of them and when they appeared in Buffalo in the 1970's I had Don sign these and he said ""those are really old". They were such a huge part of my (and my schoolmate, Barbara) teenage years, I just want to remember them as young and healthy. Condolences go out to his Mom, his wife and 2 sons and especially to his "other half, Don, and to th the rest of us who lost more of our youth than we admit.

Let me share my memory of The Everly Brothers! I'm only 38 years old, and this is one of the extreme rare acts that my parents and I love. I remember having the pleasure of seeing the Everly Brothers in concert at the Michigan State Fair sometime in the 1990's (I wish I had taken photos). I was so excited to tell my parents they were playing, and it was a free show included with admission to the fair. Reluctantly, (because at the time, the fair was held in Detroit) they took us. We had such a great time and the only disappointment is that the concert wasn't long enough. I will never forget seeing these 2 in concert. What a pleasure and happy memory. I cried the first time I heard "Ebony Eyes" and when my heart got broken, "Crying in the Rain" was my song. I sure do miss you Phil Everly. I can't believe you're gone. I'll never let you see how my broken heart is hurting me. I've got my pride and I know how to hide, all my sorrow and pain. I'll do my crying in the rain.

My older brother and myself were ten years apart from Don and Phil and we always anticipated and bought each new album and only wished they had continued to record in later years. We were so pleased when the brothers had reunited in 1983 and attended each concert when they came to our town. Their legacy is in their timeless music. When I was in Vietnam in 1970 and cassette tapes were relatively new, The Very Best Of The Everly Brothers was the only tape I wrote home to have my parents send me. Their music was like a connection to "home"....and it always will continue to be.

The first album I ever bought, and still have along with all the others, was The Everly Brothers Best in 1957, when I was 7 years old. I grew up listening, loving and singing Everly Brothers songs.
When the boys got back together in 1983 and started touring, they came to Baltimore and I was finally able to meet my music idols in person, get their autographs, and hugs and kisses (Don even kissed me on the lips!). I was in heaven.
NOBODY has, does or ever will, harmonize like Don and Phil. Thank God they came along in an era when we are able to keep their music alive through their recordings.
Now, Phil harmonizes in the heavenly choir, which is the better for his presence.
Rest in Peace, Phil. I'll always love you.

You might say he was like a big brother to me...my 2 older brothers were big Everly Brothers fans and of course as their little sister I did my best to imitate everything they did or liked. So I grew up listening to and loving Don and Phil. First Generation Rock'n'Rollers, the Everly Brothers together with Buddy Holly & The Crickets, Bill Haley & The Comets, Chuck Berry, Little Richard,Fats Domino,Jerry Lee Lewis and of course,Elvis Presley changed the musical road map,a whole new world of music had arrived and that music still excites, entertains and influences the modern day musicians!!! Phil Everly, the Greatest harmoniser of alltime, acknowledged songwriter, superb guitarist, innovator, supporter of new and up and coming talent,Loving father, husband, son and loyal friend, a true gentleman!!! The outpouring of Love & Respect for Phil does not come as a surprise, his wonderful nature & personality endeared him to everyone he met or was involved with,so as we all try to overcome the sadness of Phil's passing, always remember that his memory still lives on everytime we hear his voice on radio, CD or even spinning an old 45 on a turn table!!! Comments:I remember my Grandparents and Great Aunts talking about how Genealogists hired by the Everly Brothers had come to Maryland to ask them questions about our side of the family. I was just a "Sweet Child" back then--pun intended because Erin Everly and I are about the same age. We/I am indeed a distant Cousin of The Everly Brothers. So, my heart really goes out to all their family. My Great-Aunt's son was a naturally gifted musical genius who could pick up any instrument and play with no lessons and he also wrote music, with no musical education. He met our Cousins when he moved to Nashville, got side-tracked in life and never made it in the Music Industry, such a loss. I was a Semi-Pro singer, toured Europe and sung with Rock bands, so it must be in the genes!

May God bless you, Phil. I wish I could have met them and been into Genealogy sooner. Their contribution of pure, sweet harmonies will live forever in the world of music. Music lives on and hopefully inspires the next generation to be their best.

Comments:I'd like to share my feelings of grief and mourning after Phil Everly passed away.

In my youth - and I'm 50+ right now - the music of the Everly Brothers was always there to listen to.
Later when I could understand the language, I did wrote the lyrics from their songs on paper. I did this with a cassetterecorder and so I did replayed the songs over and over again to write down what the brothers were singing.

With my own family in the Netherlands, there was'nt any day or there was the music of those Everly's to listen to.
My mother, sister and myself did sang these songs to.
Later when I was a teenager at the age of 15 years old, we took place in a band and made our own Everly music.

In the 80's I did heared that the Everly Brothers would go on tour and would be comming to the Netherlands for promoting their new single "On the Wings of a Nightingale".
That was in Rotterdan Ahoy for the Records-Gala in 1984.
I'm so very happy that my family and I were there - I'll never forget the great feeling they brought into my heart.

It will be difficult to know that Phil is'nt there anymore in person.... His beautiful voice and music will live on in my heart and soul.

Thanxxx Phil with all my heart - for those great years you were present on this earth.

R.I.P. and never forget that my family and I will love you forever.

Comments:A follower of the great Everly Brothers since they first came out. So deeply sad to hear of Phil's parting. Got everything they ever recorded on vinyl and on CD, even the outtakes and the chat. Still play them. They were the greatest pop artists of all time in my humble view and sounded the same live on stage as they did on record. Saw them a number of times in the early 1960s and again when they reunited in 1983 and every time they came to the UK after that. In fact had booked the concert in Orleans Casino in Vegas in Feb 2006 but it was regrettably cancelled. Sad in some ways that they did not seem to get on that well but all those years on the road took their toll. That was of course a private matter but how much more they could have achieved. Still we have almost 400 songs to remind us. And Phil's solo albums were masterpieces too, as were Don's. Got them all will never part with them. Adios Phil. I am not religious but if there is a place up there somewhere I hope I meet you

Comments:The Kentucky Headhunters and myself got the news of Phil Everly's passing last Friday night after our set in Pikeville, KY, we are are deeply saddened. What a sad time for the music world, and what a sad day for Kentucky. I grew up on the Everly Brother's music through my older brother Gary, who passed away last February. I can still remember living on 6th Street in Louisville, listening to the 45 of "Cathy's Clown" over and over on the family record player. This would have been 1960.

I attended the 2nd Everly Brother's Homecoming Concert in Central City, KY, Labor Day weekend 1989. I had just left Ronnie McDowell's band, The kentucky HeadHunters had recently signed a recording contract with Mercury Nashville, my life was in transition. I remember talking to Ronni Lundy, writer for the Courier Journal at the time. I gave her an advance cassette tape of "Pickin' On Nashville," and expressed interest in playing the show after our CD was released. Little did I know that the guys and I would be asked to play The Everly Brothers Homecoming Show with Don & Phil the next year, and also in 1991 and 1992. It was such a thrill finally getting to meet them, they would even have us come out and jam on some of their classic hits during their set. It was a career highlight for the guys and myself, it's something we'll never forget.

I spent last night listening to The Everly Brothers "Heartaches & Harmonies" Rhino Records box set, in honor of Phil Everly. Sometimes you forget how great an artist was, their scope of influence gets marred by the ensuing years, we simply get too busy in our lives. Don & Phil had the sweetest voices this side of heaven, a huge influence on The Beatles, Beach Boys, Hollies, Bee Gees, Simon & Garfunkle, Gram Parsons, Emmylou Harris and everyone else in-between. They were a HUGE influence on The Kentucky HeadHunters as well.

Don Everly was a great lead vocalist, played amazing rhythm Guitar, Phil had that angelic tenor voice, both were great writers. Another reason I dearly love the Everly Brothers, they were from Kentucky, and never forgot their Muhlenberg County roots. I'm so proud The HeadHunters and myself got to know both Don & Phil, and perform with them in the early 90's. I hope someday the guys and I run into Don Everly again. I want a rhythm guitar lesson from Don, and want to talk about his father Ike Everly, and Muhlenberg county guitarists, Merle Travis & Mose Rager.

RIP Phil Everly, thank you for your God given gift of music. Don Everly and family, we love you guys very much, our hearts go out to you.

I loved his voice. My condolences go out to Phil's family and most especially to his brother Don. He will live forever in my heart.

Comments:Reading some of the lovely comments beforehand, I can't say that I've been a fan for fifty years or something equally as impressive. But that's only because I'm just 17 years old now.

About four years ago, I had the immense pleasure of discovering the Everly Brothers on Youtube, of all places. I'd been listening to other music from the '50's because I'm simply obsessed with the time period, and there, in the suggestions, was "All I Have To Do Is Dream." I thought the title sounded familiar, but that's not what made me click. Embarrassingly enough on my part, I thought the two guys in the picture were cute. So I clicked and I was immediately hooked. I forced my parents to stop what they were doing and come listen. And from then on, I've been digging and digging, trying to find more information about them. I've scrounged up two biographies and a few teen magazines from the fifties that feature the Everly Brothers. And I even got a documentary sent all the way from England about them. All thanks to my sweet dad who has funded my obsession (yes, obsession) for four years now.

I mean, I might have clicked on "All I Have To Do Is Dream" because I thought the Everly Brothers were cute, but I became a massive fan and will remain so until I die because of their immense talent and the effect their music had on me. It has never failed to calm me down and make me truly, deeply happy. It always reminds me of innocence and beauty and those are things that become increasingly important to me as I see the ugliness that sometimes appears in the world around me. Their music has just become, honestly, an integral part of my life.

So when I heard that Phil passed away, I cried so hard that I made my mom even start crying. I still haven't broken the news to my nana and nanny yet (both of whom are the aforementioned sixty-year fans). I know they will be heartbroken, too.

I've just been so upset and saddened by the news that I don't really know what to do. So I decided to get on here and just let someone know how big of an impact the Everly Brothers' music has had on my life. I like to think God lets the angels know these kinds of things. And I pray God let Phil know that I think he's awesome and I hope, one day, I get to meet him like I've always dreamed about. Rest in peace. My prayers go out to his family.

They were nice people and made my wife, daughter, and I feel like family. We then saw each other in Nashville twice. He was such a humble and gentle man who even took my grandson to his house to teach him how to play the guitar. That's how he was. We'll surely miss him dearly.

I just want to say that we lost one of the greatest singers . So talented. I had the pleasure of working with Phil and Don on the Pee Wee King tv. show in 1957. you will see me altogether with them on they're memory page.
I really enjoyed working with them. They are so great.

Those were the good old days now. We rehearsed all day and night until the show came on. It was at WBBM in Chicago, Ill. studios.

I felt so bad when I heard the news. We were all so young and just starting out. You have my sympathy.

Comments:Can't get the sad news out of my head since days. Deepest and warmest heartfelt condolences to Phil's wife and children, family and of course in a special way to Don Everly.

Even though I didn't have the fortune to be born early enough to live in the fabulous 50's myself, I still grew up with the music of the Everly's because my mom played them all the time. I picked that up from her and now, 40 years later, I still play their records and will do so forever. Never ever has the passing of a celebrity affected me as much as these sad, sad news. I feel so blessed to have seen them play in Germany in 1991. Such a memorable night. I was 18 and swooning at Don in the front row... :-) They had a kind of magic about them when they sang. And after the concert it was Phil, who came out to see the fans, who had waited so long, and to write some autographs. Very kind, very quiet. A lovely gesture.

I hope Don knows and Phil knew how incredibly much they gave to us all, so precious, so invaluable, and how deep they touched our hearts. They sure reach mine and will always continue to do so, no matter what.

Rest in peace, Phil. You'll never be forgotten.

A few years later I bought my first LP , Both sides of an evening, but we didn't have a pick up. I was going with a tape recorder to my friend who had one. So I could hear the music at home . A friend who I still see once a year.
During the years I always loved their music ,was member of the fanclub , was going to their meetings ,with my wife Marjo , who loved the Blue Diamonds, when she was young, almost the same kind of music. I was very glad to see the Everly Brothers for the first time in Eindhoven ,where they were with their dad ,Ike. It was one of the most beautifull evenings of my life . We went to all their shows in our country. Dear Phil , I thank you for the beautifull music you have made, for the many happy hours in my life .
You will always be in my heart ,

Comments:I almost can't express what the music of the Everly Brothers has meant to me over my lifetime, and my memories go back to "Bye Bye Love" so I've heard it all! There may be some artists who could approach the Everly sound when it came to harmony, but as far as their slow ballads are concerned I can't see that their sound will ever be surpassed. I'm especially talking about songs like "All I Have To Do Is Dream", "Devoted To You", "Love Of My Life", "Take A Message To Mary", "Let It Be Me" (my personal E.B. favorite), "Like Strangers", "Love Hurts","So Sad", "Ebony Eyes", "Don't Blame Me", "Crying In The Rain", and "The First In Line". As far as I'm concerned, nothing today can touch this music for sheer beauty. Condolences to Phil's family and to Don and all the rest of their extended family and fans, we fans who remain feel a sense of loss for sure.

Phil was a wonderful man with so many special qualities, gifts and talents. He was a gentle man - and a kind and generous man with a wonderful sense of humour. And his distinctive, beautiful singing voice has given joy to millions of people around the world. If there are angels in heaven, surely they sing like the Everly Brothers! And to Don and Phil - you are the best brothers anyone could ever wish for! Whenever I hear you sing or watch you play live, all I can hear and see is love. Your greatest gift is your music - and in 50 or 100 years from now, people are still going to want to listen to Wake Up Little Susie, Cathy抯 Clown, All I Have to Do is Dream and Let it be Me. I love you, Phil. You have always been my hero. With love and special prayers for Phil, Patti, Jason and Chris, mother Margaret and especially big brother, Donald. Richard J, Wilmslow UK

Comments:Although I (born in 1943) knew the Everly Brothers from the beginning I became a fervent fan in August 1960 and since then I started buying and playing all their music! My personal record- and cd-collection exists for 95% of Everly music which I very much enjoyed and still enjoy! I played their music whatever I had to do at home - even when I had to make my homework! In 1960 I was invited by Henk Koster (who founded on July 15th., 1959 together with one of his boys next door the Dutch Everly Brothers Fan Club "Our Stars"") at home where he lived together with his parents and younger sister. I showed interest in the fanclub and shortly there-after I became editor of the monthly magazine "Our Stars" for around 2 years because I had to fulfill my militairy duty. The music of Don and Phil always played, still plays and will play a very important role in my and my wife's live! Whether I felt and feel good or bad it always gave and gives me a positive input! I have seen quite a lot of live performances in Holland but I had to miss (very much to my regret of course)) the Reunion Concert in 1983 in Londen. I think it is the best thing they ever did live - for me it is a treasure anyway! I am happy to say that I attended two of their last performances in London in November 2005.
Thank you Don and Phil for the very, very good and fine music (the best close-harmony singing ever heard - will never be improved) you gave to the world - Phil R.I.P. and my sincere condoleances to all of the Everly family, friends and fans!

De pijn en het gevoel van verlies is groot en aanwezig en mijn hart gaat uit naar Phil zijn Broer Don en Phil zijn kinderen en vrouw en de rest van de Everly familieleden..... "LOVE FOR EVER ".

Comments:What a shock to hear that our beloved Phil has died.
The music will never fade. He and Don made the most beautiful music.

Me and my husband will send our condolances to his wife, his children and Don.

Rest in peace, Phil

Comments:I am so deeply saddened that we have lost Phil. He was such a good man and an outstanding singer and performer. However I recieved a blessing from Phil tonight that I would like to share. You see, lately I have been going through a depression stage, pondering mistakes I've made and wondering what i could have done better. it's been a rough road these last couple of months. Tonight I was watching an Everly Brother's documentary I believe it was called A Rock n' Roll Odyssey. Phil made a profound statement while being interviewed in which he said, "Your yesterday is your yesterday. If you take all of your past mistakes and drag them into your present, then all you are doing is confusing your present. Your tomorrow is more important than your yesterday." This hit me like a ton of bricks because it was EXACTLY what I needed to hear. Phil's words helped a fellow musician and I will never forget that statement and will always apply that in my daily life. Thank you Phil your words and your music has blessed me more than you'll ever know. sing with the angels now friend and God Bless you.
