Title: Summer of 99
Comments:Last summer, my parents and I were looking forward to
seeing my sister (Natalie) and my brother in law (Lee) for
the first time in a while. They had just moved out to Gran
Canaria a couple of months before that. We were all looking
forward to it a lot.
We got there, and it was nice to be in a different
country at last. It was quite late at night though, so we
couldn't see that much because it was very dark, but it was
quite hot. We walked through the airport and looked for
Natalie and Lee, but there was no sign of them. So my mum
had to stop a local who luckily spoke a bit of English and
ask them how to use the payphones while my dad went off to
sort out the car rental. We opened up one of the bags and
pulled out Lee's mobile number, rang them and told them
where we were. A few minutes later Natalie came through a
door and we all had a big hug!
About an hour later we were driving through the island
towards our apartment, in Mogan. We got there, found a
hotel which also hosted the reception which also took care
of our apartments. It was right by a marina, and there were
boats everywhere, and restaurants and apartments. It was
very pretty.
We asked at the reception for the key to our apartment,
and they gave us it and lead us through the small alleyways
towards our apartment. It took us about 10 minutes to walk
there, and we had about 3 suitcases and 2 heavy bottles of
water to carry. We finally got there, and we planted our
belongings on the floor and discussed what we were going to
do for the next 2 weeks. I was quite tired and so decided
to sit down on an armchair and read one of my books. Then
Natalie and Lee left and we sorted out our beds. I got the
sofa!
I woke up the next morning quite early because I was
very excited about the fact that this would be the first
day in a year that I could go snorkelling. Dad loves
snorkelling to, and just before we went away to Gran
Canaria we brought our own proper snorkelling gear.
I stayed in bed for ages just looking out of the window at
all the other apartments surrounding us. I could hear
locals talking, dogs barking and many other pleasant
noises. I got quite bored after a while, and thought about
putting the television on, but decided not to as the
previous night I switched on almost as soon as I got there
and found that the last person to stay there did not turn
the volume down, and I didn't have a clue how to adjust the
volume. So I decided not to touch it, as many people were
still sleeping. So instead I made my breakfast, as quitely
as possible, and thought about the snorkelling.
About 2 hours later, we were in the top room of the
hotel having a meeting with 2 or 3 reps, and 2 other
couples of tourists. I kept on looking up at the huge glass
dome which was the ceiling, and I could see 2 hornets
flying about. I was a little scared of these and made my
fears known, and the reps said "Well they will not be
interested in us because it is there mating season," or
something like that. And they were right I guess, because a
little later I looked up and saw both of them fly into a
hole, not to be seen for quite a while.
The families that were there were quite nice. We all
talked about the island, and how we got there and how many
times we had been there before. And soon we were all quite
friendly. Also we talked about how the Germans kept on
pinching all the sunbeds at midnight. We all found this
quite annoying.
Later on we finally found our way to the beach after 10
minutes searching. It was quite near the car park. There
was a stream, or a small river that ran past it, and there
were rocks on each of the banks. And the water was crystal
clear. We could see some of the local children who
immediatly went down in my good books. They were jumping
off the bridge and into the water. They were running up and
down the bridge aswell, being very ignorant towards the
tourists. When we were walking along the bridge, we got a
bit wet when a few of them ran past us. And then a boy
sitting on the rocks noticed that we were English and stood
up and shouted at us "Money?" Because he wanted something
to throw in the river, and pick up again. We all got a bit
annoyed with this, and politely said NO. Then we got up to
the beach. It was like a semi-circle shape. In front of us
was a whole patch of sunbeds. And if you followed the beach
around it would take you to a large group of rocks that
would go out about 10 meters to the sea. We found our place
quite near the rocks and put our stuff down. I immediatly
ran to the sea to see how warm it was, and it turned out to
be quite a nice temperature. So then I went back to the
stuff and got my snorkelling gear, and got ready to go into
the water. Begging dad to go at the same time because I
wanted a companion to snorkel with. He agreed to go, and a
few minutes later we were both walking into the water. The
part of the beach that we were on did not have sand leading
into the water, but steps of rocks instead. So we had to be
very careful when getting into the water, as the rocks were
quite slippery.
When we got in, it was all rather murky. So we kept on
swimming out further and further to find a clear patch, and
we finally did, about 10 meters out where the rocks ended
and seemed to start underwater. It was very pretty on this
area, we could see loads of brightly coloured fish, and big
fish and small fish all swimming around the rocks, going
into holes and hiding underneath the rocks. I was not a
very experienced snorkeller at the time, and I did not know
how to clear my snorkel. So each time I went under, I had
to come up and take my whole mask off and hold it upside
down to let all the water drain from my snrokel. This got
very annyoing because I kept on getting all the salt water
in my eyes. And this stung a lot, so I swam back to our
stuff with one eye closed. It was a very strange and
annoying thing to do.
Later on in the day we went to the swimming pool. Mum
and dad decided to sunbathe on the beds, while I went
swimming in the pool. I also went snorkelling in the pool
trying to brush up on my skills but found this to be very
hard as there were loads of children crowding it not caring
that I was there and bumping into me. So instead I decided
to go back into the sea, and I found an ideal spot. Right
by the pool were some steps leading into the sea. These
steps were very slippery, and quite crowded aswell, so I
had to be quite careful walking down them. I got down to
the bottom and sat on the edge dangling my feet in the
water and putting on my flippers at the same time. Then I
put my mask on and braved the much cooler temperature and
jumped staright in. It was freezing, but it was much
clearer here. I must have been able to see down about 3
meters deep. And I could see loads of rocks, and fishes,
and massive sea urchins about the size of footballs, or
soccer balls to all you americans. During my snorkelling
time in here, I was joined by my mum who went swimming and
my dad who also went snorkelling, but strayed far off from
me. Also from where I was, I was about 20 meters away from
the rocks that lead into the sea. And they stopped about 15
meters away from a wall which seperated the sea from the
town. I decided that it would be quite an adventure to
snorkel from the beach, to the steps by the swimming pool.
But I never did quite manage it, because I never tried,
because that was the only chance that I had to try.
In the evening we went to have tea at an Irish
restaurant, and found out we were sitting next to one of
the couples that we met in the meeting with the reps. I
also had the privelage of being able to see a TV which was
showing a football match. Arsenal verses someone, and one
amazing goal was scored. Then we got home and went to bed,
and looked forward to the next day when we would go to
Natalie and Lee's house for the first time.

I woke up the next morning quite early again and
listened to the sounds of the surrounding apartments again.
I got bored of this after a while and decided that I should
pack some things because we would be gone for quite a while
on this day. When I was packing I had a thought which told
me that maybe I should pack some spare clothes. And then
after that I was reading the phrase book, and I was looking
at the section for when you have injured yourself. I do not
know why I was doing this.
It was also August the 11th on this day, the day of the
eclipse. And after much warnings from teachers, and doctors
on the TV about how you shouldn't look at it because it
will damage your eyes, I told everyone that I would be
snorkelling when the eclipse was going on. But instead I
ended up watching it on the TV at my sisters house.
We got to the area where my sister lived and we knocked
on the door we had been given directions to. We had arrived
early when we found that natalie was standing there with
rubber gloves on and some polish in her hand. She also told
us that we were early. She let us in and showed us her
house. We went into the small kitchen and found the 2 cats
that she had adopted a while a go, cuddling up to each
other and giving us funny looks on top of one of the
shelves. After she had shown us her house, we went into the
lounge and sat down on her sofas and she turned the TV on
to some spanish channel which had amazing coverage of the
eclipse. Lee was not in the house then because he was at
work, he worked for a local newspaper.
After we had watched the eclipse, we all got in the car
and drove towards our destination, which was a big beach
with some massive waves. We got there, parked quite a way
up and carried our few bags down towards the beach. We saw
it was quite crowded, and there was a yellow flag up. Also
we noticed that the waves were huge, and mum loved big
waves and decided that later on she would go swimming in
them. Which turned out to be the biggest mistake of the
summer. But first though we went to a cafe and had some
lunch because we were all quite hungry. Natalie showed off
her ability to speak spanish which did come in handy an
awful lot on this holiday. And so she ordered our food.
While we were waiting for the food we watched the sea and
we could see one person snorkelling, but slightly
struggling because of the huge waves bobbing him up and
down. Also we noticed that he was quite close to a small
concrete pier. I told mum dad and Natalie that I wanted to
go snorkelling there and they said no. Because it was too
rough, and by that wall I would probably get hurt. I was
quite annoyed about this, and then they got annoyed that I
was annoyed. So after a while I decided to shut up.
After lunch, we went to the beach and I saw my first
Lizard on the walk there. We put our stuff on the ground
and Natalie went off to get changed, and this would be her
first swim in the sea on this island, despite the fact that
she had been there about 3 months already. Dad kept guard
of the stuff, while me and mum went into the sea. It was
quite fun but very rough. I could feel bits of seaweed
floating around in the water and entangling themselves on
my legs. And yet once again I got salt water in my eyes on
a number of occaisions. But the third time I said "I'm just
gonna get a towel mum" and off I went. I turned around
after rubbing my eyes with the towel and saw my mum
struggling in the water. Then she went under and I watched
in horror. But I was the only one watching. Everyone else
was just playing about completely ignoring the fact that my
mum was struggling in the water. So I ran towards her. To
be continued!

Title: Summer of 99 Continued
Comments:Mum was struggling in the water and I ran towards her to
see what was wrong. Luckily she came up out of the water,
but she was crawling out of it for some reason. So I tried
to help her up but this just made things worse. And then
another wave came over and I warned mum, but she was
couldn't move enough to avoid it and it took her under
again. She came up almost immediatly though, and after we
got her out of the water and on to the beach we managed to
get her to finally stand up. My dad took over the
situation, and I had nothing left to do so I just sat down
on the beach completely shocked by what had happened. Then
Natalie came back from getting changed and noticed that
there was something wrong. She asked what was wrong, but
all we could say was "She's hurt her back," because that
was all we knew. After many attempts to get her to sit down
on the beach we finally gave up and walked over to a rock
where she was able to sit down without many problems. When
we got to the rock and friendly spanish couple noticed that
there was something wrong and helped us out. They were very
comforting because they held her hand, and gradually helped
her sit down. Then they ran off to get a lifeguard. I still
sat on the beach completely shocked by what had happened,
and watched all of this going on. I couldn't leave this
spot because I had been left in charge of looking after the
bags. Then a lifeguard ran down the beach towards mum with
a radio in hand, and Natalie told him what had been going
on. Luckily she spoke Spanish. We got our stuff together
and walked up to a small ambulance. The spanish couple were
still with us helping her on. And when we were all on the
couple stood there and waved us goodbye. And off we went to
the doctors sugery. We got there and we had to wait a while
in the waiting room, until finally the doctor told us to
come in. Natalie went in with her, and me and dad just
stayed and waited to see what had happened. Then Natalie
came out and said we needed the holiday insurance and went
off with dad in a taxi to find our car. After about half an
hour they returned with the insurance in hand, and the
doctor told us that there was nothing he could do and that
she was OK, but might need a check up in the hospital. So
after much driving around the island, 1 stop at natalie's
house, and a trip to a hospital which had que's so large
that it inspired dad to say "They're queing before the
become ill just so they can get a place" we found the
hospital we needed. It was the best one in Canary Islands
according to Lee. Plus it was private, and I could not see
any que's anywhere. We let a nurse take mum off in a
wheelchair to get exhamined while Natalie Dad and I waited
in the waiting room for Lee. We disscussed what was wrong,
one of the things that we thought could be wrong was that
she had fractured a verterbrae in her back. But we decided
that that was not possible as she could move quite well.
But then that was proved wrong when a English speaking
spanish nurse came through and sat down with us and told us
that she had Fractured a verterbrae in her back. Exactly
what we thought could not have happened. Yet once again we
were all completely shocked. And when Lee came we told him
and he got shocked. Over the next few days, dad was to sort
out all the holiday insurance, cut the holiday short by a
week, take us around the island to all the places that we
have gone to, but instead we only looked at them. I made
friends with Natlie and Lee's 2 cats Hana and Bobby, and I
explored every inch of the local swimming pool. We visited
mum in her private hospital room everyday at lunch time.
She would be so glad to see us, and she would tell us how
badly the staff had treated her. One time, at midnight, she
was in pain and called out for the nurse. But the nurse was
too busy watching television and ignored her. We also found
out that one of the nurses was gay, and Lee named him Senor
Wierdy Beardy. Finally the day arrived when we would go
home. A private nurse called Andrea had been sent over to
help us. She came with us all the way back to our house in
England. She went with us on a 35 minute abulance journey
to the airport, where we went through a way that not many
people go through. Then we were loaded on to a spanish
plane and flown to Barcelona. We waited about an hour in
Barcelona airport and then we were put back on to another
plane. And flown over to Heathrow airport. All the time mum
was on a stretcher, which meant that on the planes 9 seats
had to be laid down for the stretcher to fit on. All the
time this was happening people stared at us. Oh and Natalie
and Lee did not come with us, they had to stay back home.
We finally got back home, and we were taken through
Heathrow airport, and we were so glad to be surrounded by
English speaking people. We were put on an ambulance, an
English ambulance and taken down the M25 to sussex. We
drove through our village and recognised all the village
shops. Then we went down our lane, and we were greeted by
our friendly neighbours who helped us out so much. I went
into the lounge and turned on the TV, finally glad to watch
something English. And then I went to bed, our dreaful
holiday over, and our hard 2nd half of the summer just
beggining. Well that's about it. Sorry I went into huge
detail, and this probably isn't the most interesting story
ever, it's just one event in my life that I doubt I will
forget.

Title: if u see a gate that is locked, dont jump over it.....
Comments:k.
a few years ago, i was walking through the country, on one
of those trail things, with my sister, parents, and
grandparents.
We were walking along happily, i was carrying a big stick
that i had picked up (as u do lol), and we had been
walking for ages, so it was nearly lunch time.
so, we decided to look for a short cut back to the pub
where we had left the car
we crossed the road, and there was a big metal gate with a
padlock on, through which we could see the pub we were
trying to get to, just at the end of the field. then we
thought, instead of going alllll the way round this field,
we should just go through it. so, we all climbed over the
gate, ignoring the lock and the suspiciously large looking
cows at the other side of the field. so we started walking
along the edge of the field, and then one of the cows
started walking towards us....and then another one followed
it...and then they all joined in, and started running! i
was absolutely terrified! so we thought it might b a good
idea to get out of their way, and we all started running.
but that wouldnt have worked, because the cows (which we
had by now realised were bulls) were running too quickly!
so i gave my dad the stick that i had been carrying, and we
all carried on running while he attacked the leading bull
with my stick, and shouted at it! (meanwhile my grandma had
taken off her shoes, lol, so that she could run faster!) so
finally we got to the end of the field, and my dad ran over
after us. so that was the end. so if u ever see a gate that
is locked, dont jump over it.....and always carry a stick
when u r walking through a field of bulls. or suspiciously
large cows.

Title: PIZZA?? YES PIZZA! HUH??
Comments:Okay, the pizza is part of the story,so let me get on with
it,on how i could have been killed by a pizza! No joke. It
was late one saturday night be and my girl wanted
pizza, mostly me though. When we got to the pizza place this
young guy was beating on this girl outside. They had to be
in their 20's I think. The first thing my g/f said to me
was don't get involved. I said ok evan though I wanted to
do something. It seemed like she was in there forever
getting the pizza. All this time the guy kept wailing on
this girl, and she she kept backing away, but he would not
let up,he finaly cornered her in a old phone booth as was
punching her in the FACE!! She started to bleed,at
the, face, I couldnt take it out any more. I was in the
passanger side(the door sticks)I climbed out of the
window, but did NOT approch him I yelled at him to leave her
alone,he came charging at me and started yelling at me and
asking if i wanted a pice of him! Not being much of a
fighter,I tried to talk to him,hah big mistake! He poped
me in the face a couple of times, before I turned away, and
almost that sec I turdned so not to get punched in the
face, the cops were there. Of course this guy said I stared
it,but there were to many witness that saw him hitting this
girl, and him attacking me. I know that wasnt the smartest
thing to do BUT it was the right thing to do. He could have
had a knife or a gun, would I do it again? I would like
to think I would, but have my guard up better this time. She
did press charges on him!! Good for her!!!

Comments:Hello to my little community. I am glad to recieve my first
2 posts WOOHOO! Wow, 2 posts! Amazing!!! Yeah well thank
you very much for posting on my site you 2, Stephanie and
TW. May I just say that I discovered that when you are
typing up HTML on your story it seems to delete part of the
story. So to all of those people who type up

it seems
to delete the story from the point where that starts. I am
just about to start a huge investigation into how to get
around this, so it will be sorted out, and if it aint then
I will just have to add something to my site saying not to
use HTML. Thank you and keep the posting up!

Title: THE HAUNTED SCHOOL!!!
Comments:OK, when I was about 4 or 5 years old I was obviously at
primary school. Now this school was an acient building, it
was first built in like the 15 hundreds, but anyway. I was
sitting in the class room reading some kiddies book, or
attempting to, with my friends when my friend Tom came in
and said he could hear a funny noise in the toilets. I
said "Your probably just imagining it Tom" trying to sound
as grown up as possible. And out of curiosity I decided to
go in with him and see if I could hear anything. Now I
swear to god I could hear something! It was the creepiest
laugh I had ever heard, kind of like those evil laughs from
horror movies. I checked all the cubicles but I didn't need
to because they were all open and me and Tom and a few
other friends were the only ones there! It was creepy, and
it was also very loud! So we decided to run out and go
back. After much more curiosity grew on me, I decided that
at the end of the day I would go and have a look again. I
went through the cloakroom to get to the toilets and I
couldn't hear the noise. So I went through the cloakroom to
get to my coat and bag and right in front of me, at the end
of the cloakroom was the strangest looking shadow. It was
round and porky, absolutely not like me no kidding! So I
stood there for a few minutes just looking at it. Now yes
it could have been my shadow because being about 4 or 5 my
imagination would have taken over, but I will never know. I
went into school the next day and told everyone, my friends
were impressed but the teachers just laughed at me. Now you
may also think that the laugh was my imagination, but
nooope! In the last year of primary school, when the school
had moved to a more modern building and the previous
building had been turned into an Information Center, me and
my friend Oliver and my mum went to the Information center
to see a friend of hers. Me and Ollie went off exploring
the building and I showed him where all my old classes
were and stuff, because he had joined the school after it
had moved. Then I we were interested by a small table
football/soccer table in a tiny room. Also in this tiny
room was a bookshelf with books galore and a few other
objects which I can't remember. We looked around it for a
few seconds before I heard a noise. And guess what that
noise was. It was exactly the same laughing that I had
heard 5 years before that day. It was still very creepy,
and we looked around and we couldn't see anything, and
without any waiting me and my friend ran out of the room
and downstairs to tell my mum about it. She said it was
probably our imagination, but I swear to God it wasn't. Is
it possible for 2 people to imagine the same noise at the
same time. I don't think so. And also when talking to my
friend about this later on, he said that he could see
something on the football/soccer table. We were 10 year
olds at the time, and I sure couldn't see anything, but he
said he did. But it could have been him just making it up
to make the story more interesting like 10 year olds do!
Now I am 15, and since that last incident I have been to
the school about 3 or 4 times and heard nothing. But what
is even more creepier is that when the building was first
turned into an Information center, they knocked some of the
walls down. And one wall they knocked down revealed an 18th
century bedroom that had been untouched for at least a
century. I can only remember seeing the bed though, but I
think it had a small table next to it and on the bed was
some white sheets, no not in the form of a ghost, but
laying on the bed as if it had just been made. Well that
just goes to show how much history our village has got!

Comments:Hey...
This seems like a cool site to post some killer stories.
Anyway, a whole truckload of my friends and I were at my
school at around 11:30 pm just chillin and you know talking
and stuff. I stopped talkting to my friend Mags(her real
name's Maggie) wehn we all ehard this guy named Adam running
down the field. He was out of breath, and shouting something
nobody could hear. It was when he got close up to us that we
realized he was shouting "Piggies! Pigges! They be comin!"
(to us, 'piggies' means cops) We all turned to to the end of
the school field towards this hill. Nobody said a word.
Nobody breathed. Suddenly, these two high beams peaked over
the hill followed by two more. At the sight of all the
police cruisers everyone began screaming and running in all
directions. My friends Mags, Adam and Matt and I all ran
down this one street with the cops in hot pursuit. The
cruiser stopped, and out jumped a policeman. He ran after
us and we took twists and turns down streets none of us had
ever seen before, but his damn cop wouldn't give up! Matt,
adam, Mags and I leapt over this fence and hid in some guys
backyard until he walked off. To this day, my friends and I
still hang out there...we're all members of the track team
now, too.

Title: THE TRAIN~UH OH :)
Comments:Hi,it's me again.When i
was around 18,I used to be into making small films,I thought I was gonna be the next Speilberg:) I made all sorts of small films, from a take off of batman, the tv seris. This was in 1975.
I wanted to to a comdey version of the old perils of pauline.I got my freinds,Debi,Jim and Brian. I did the filming, debi was the heroine,Jim the god guy& Brian the bad guy. The little story/script was the bad guy ties the girl to(on)the tracks, leaves her to her fate, and the rain comes, you thinkshe is done for,the train zooms past her,as you see it is a doubble rail road track, and she is on the oppisite, track. Then the hero comes running up,and you think he is going to rescue her. He ask her if the train has come by yet,she nods her head yes(she is tied and gagged like in the old movie serilas) The hero snaps his fingers,ad sais"Darn it!! I missed it!!" and runs away trying to catc the train.SO anyways by pal jim ties debie up and she hopped over to where she was to be layed on the tracks,we started to film, now where we were filming it was a one track.I swear all of a sudden, a train started to come!! We all ran off to the side, but debie was still tied up on the tracks!! My two freinds ran up to her, and picked her up off the tracks and carried her off to the sides, she fraked a litte(who could blame her) and she struggled franticly as they were carrying her off the tracks,by the time they got her off to the sides she had freed her self(her hands were tied in front of her) Amazingly enough she was not mad. Many many years latter, more than one time, Debi recounted that story several times to several people. She must have had a good time,as she did some more films with me:)

Title: DEBIE MY FREIND
Comments:This is just a litte silly story, for a lack of a better word.debie was my friend, evan though I liked he a lot,so one day in school,we were sitting at a lunch table, for some reason(we were goffing around) she grabbed my left wrist and started to dig her nails in,and asked me if that hurt. Being a guy,and a kid I said no
it did a little but I wasnt gonna tell her that! :)After afew minutes she stopped, there was a little bit of blood, like when you get a scratch. A few days latter,it looked like I had a litte scar, and I said something to her,and she said,"good, now you will always have something to rember me by!" TO this day I STILL have that small mark on my wrist, and as you can see, I have never forgotten Debie :)

Comments:This is dreambook right?
the point of html codes here is to make parhgraps and start a new line, just like in canuks site I wont use html's in this post, but give you all the codes. When you want t start a NEW parhgraph uses this
< and then a captiol P and then anotheer > with the P in the middle it will auto start a new paragragh. AS for a new line,or break use the same two but usea capital BR in the middle and POOF, stories will be easier to read :) Hope this helps :) TW

Comments:The events in this true story took place in the latter part
of the 1970s. Gillian and I had recently moved to
Christchurch, our second home since the start of our married
life. We had two young daughters, Penelope, who was 4 or 5
years old at the time, and Jane, still in her first year.

It had been arranged, for a particular Saturday night during
late summer or early autumn, that Gillian and I would meet
Linda (Jamie's mother and Gillian's sister) and some others
at a pub known as 'The High Corner', hidden deep in the New
Forest but a fairly short drive from the market town of
Ringwood. In all, the evening's venue was about 15 miles
from our house, but we had not been there before and, with
only a rough description of its location, we were unsure
about finding it without difficulty.

We asked our usual baby sitter (June Payne - later to become
the mayor of Christ-church) to look after the two girls, but
the plan was that Gillian and I would drive to the pub
together and I would leave early to take over from June.
Gillian would get a lift to home from one of our friends.

Unfortunately, things did not go smoothly! We couldn't find
'The High Corner'. We knew that we had to leave the main
road for a minor road and then take a gravelled track to the
pub, but the New Forest has countless gravel tracks, most of
which lead to nowhere except denser and denser woods or
those huge open, marshy, plains with nothing but scrub, a
few wild ponies and the occasional deer. It began to get
late. It became dark and the appointed time for our meeting
came and went and still we couldn't find the place. The
time for me to return home was approaching and with no one
about to give us directions, I suggested that we should
'write-off' the evening and go home. I could sense that
Gillian was disappointed by not seeing Linda and her friends
and, furthermore, she thought that Linda would be concerned
about our non-arrival. The tension between us grew to the
point where an argument developed, when suddenly an
illuminated telephone kiosk loomed in the darkness. These
were the days when a directory was supplied in each kiosk -
I found the number for 'The High Corner', rang the number
and obtained directions.

Within a short while we'd located the bumpy track, which led
to an oasis of light and activity concealed from the road by
a dense wood. The tension inside the car was almost
unbearable by this time and on reaching the pub Gillian left
the car - neither of us saying 'goodbye' - and I did a
U-turn and headed for home.

This is where the main part of my story begins.

I was now alone, still angry but regretting the way the
evening had turned out. I knew it would blow over, though,
and expected everything to be back to normal by the
following day. With the pub and the trees behind me, I was
driving slowly along the track towards the minor road when I
became aware of a bright light in the sky. I knew it was
too bright to be a star or even a planet, but I didn't
regard it as being anything unusual. Hurn (now called
Bournemouth International) and Eastleigh (now called
Southampton) are two regional airports equidistant from this
elevated spot and only 40 miles apart. I probably dismissed
the light as being an aeroplane taking off or landing,
besides I had other, more distracting, thoughts in my head.

At the end of the track I turned right on the made-up road
and drove towards the main road that would take me to
Ringwood. I'd driven a short distance when the bright light
came into my mind once again because, on reflection, the
light hadn't appeared to be moving and this suggested that
it was directly in line with my line of sight and heading
straight for me. I glanced to my left and saw that the
light was still there. I went back to my thoughts until I
looked again in the direction of the light to see how it was
progressing, but the single, bright, white, light had
disappeared and had been replaced by a perfect circle of
lights, less bright then the original, glowing steadily,
mostly yellow-white in colour, but with at least one red
light amongst them.

I still did not regard this as anything particularly
unusual. I'd lived close to Hurn for long enough to know
that aeroplanes show lights at night, sometimes they are
coloured and, by necessity, they are always bright. But, by
now this spectacle had captured my attention and I wanted to
keep on eye on it for a while.

It was at this point that the lights disappeared from view,
behind some trees, just as I reached another isolated pub,
on the right hand side, called 'The Red Shoot' . This pub,
however, is visible from the road and I could tell from the
cars and people in the car park, between me and the
building, that there were a lot of customers that evening.
Passing 'The Red Shoot' on towards Ringwood, I came once
again into open country. There, quite bizarrely, on the
right hand verge, was a young man staring into the hedgerow
with the aid of a torch. He took no notice of me
whatsoever, even though mine was the only vehicle on the
road at that time. I wondered what he was doing and where
he came from, but quickly came to the conclusion that he
was, perhaps, an entomologist pursuing his hobby. A few
metres further on I spotted a dormobile parked off the road
to the left. Its road lights were off, but it was
illuminated internally and I supposed that it belonged to
the young man studying the hedgerow.

Looking at the dormobile, my attention returned to the left
side of the road and it was then that I witnessed a sight
in the sky that will remain with me for the rest of my life!
Within a short space of time, the circle of lights had come
much closer to the road and revealed themselves to be the
centre of a much larger object, with faint lights around its
perimeter, appearing to be dark grey or brown when
silhouetted against what light was available in the night
sky. It was circular in shape and it had all the appearance
of a classic flying saucer. I pulled off the road to
concentrate on what I was seeing, although still not
believing my eyes. I was too afraid to get out off the car,
but watched this object for a while. It was stationary, it
had no visible means of propulsion, but it was suspended in
mid-air. Without knowing its size it was difficult to gauge
its height - if pushed I would say that it had a diameter
equivalent to the wing span of a large airliner and ten
times that distance above ground.

I'm unable to recall very much more detail. To be honest,
at this point my interest was overtaken by fear of the
unknown and I was convinced that I was seeing a UFO. Also,
I suddenly thought about Gillian and our sour parting - I'd
heard stories about the alien abduction of motorists from
isolated places (admittedly they'd all come from America,
but I wasn't thinking analytically) and I was fearful that
this might happen to me - if I went missing without trace,
Gillian might have thought that it had been the result of
our quarrel. I had to get back to safety, I thought.

I turned the car around, with the intention of driving to
'The Red Shoot' where I knew I would find other people. The
thing in the sky was now on my right and realising that I
was witnessing something incredible, I decided I should,
after all, note as many details as possible. I stopped the
engine again and wound down the window, still not brave
enough to leave the car. The thing hadn't moved, it was
still there, circular, defying gravity, exactly as before,
but I realised for the first time that it was not making the
slightest sound. This latest realisation brought back the
fear - this was something completely outside my experience
and understanding.

Perhaps I should knock on the door of the dormobile, I
thought, and ask any occupant that I might find there if I
was dreaming. I decided that a knock on the door, in an
out-of-the-way place at night-time might cause unnecessary
anxiety and I returned to my original plan to head for 'The
Red Shoot'. The entomologist had disappeared by this time.
I was hoping that he would be standing, open-mouthed, in
the road staring skywards - but with his back to the thing
and the absence of any sound meant that he had probably not
been aware of it. Sensing that the object was looming high
on my right, I reached the entrance to the car park of 'The
Red Shoot', I drove up to the building and jump out of the
car expecting the thing in the sky to be hovering above the
trees on the opposite side of the road. Imagine my
disappointment when I discovered it had vanished! A group
of three people were casually chatting outside the pub -
there was no excited talk and animated gestures that would
have suggested that they, too, had seen something strange.

Now I was angry with myself. I wanted to see this thing
again. Back in the car I retraced my route. Perhaps it had
moved away to a place below the tree line, or perhaps to a
lower altitude, or maybe it had landed. All the way back to
Ringwood I scanned the sky without luck. Past Ringwood,
onto the A338 dual carriageway, where, in places, there are
uninterrupted views far into the distance, there was no sign
of my UFO and I never saw it again.

Back home, I told my story to June, the babysitter. She
listened patiently, told me that there would be some
rational explanation, if fact she'd read something recently
that explained such sightings. June left me with my
thoughts. Sleep was impossible and eventually Gillian
returned home. I was eager to repeat my story, but Gillian
just wanted to make up for our argument!

Two or three days later, I was reading the local newspaper,
'The Bournemouth Echo' when I came across an article about a
motorist who had reported the sighting of an object in the
sky whilst driving along the Upton Bypass, about 15 miles to
the west of Christchurch. His description of the object was
exactly as I have described my sighting.

Many times I have seen aeroplanes around Hurn and, depending
on the light and direction of travel, it's easy to see how
people can mistake ordinary aeroplanes for stationary
objects or cigar shaped craft, but what I saw was not any
aircraft that I know of. Ask me if I believe in UFOs and I
would still answer that I'm not certain. In recent years I
have been leaning towards the view that our governments know
more than they are prepared to tell. I believe that it is
more than likely that they have developed craft that
resemble flying saucers, as was revealed in a recent
television documentary (a correspondent for a flight
magazine claims to have seen a number of such craft on a
desert airfield in America).

My experience happened over twenty years ago and, for me, it
has not been repeated. I would dearly love to see such a
sight again. I've always carried a camera in my car since
that date, so next time I hope to get a picture. Most of
all, I would like a true and convincing explanation for
these UFOs.
