Comments:I own a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Club Sedan with the 292 in it. I also have a 1957 Ranchero with the 312 and 3 speed. I really enjoy the feeling of bringing the life back to a classic car. I'm hoping to start up a local 57' Ford club here in Fresno when both my projects are complete.

Comments:I am the owner of a Raven Black 70B Custom “300” Tudor with a Thunderbird V8 Special. I am the third generation owner, my grandfather bought the car new in 1957, my father drove the car as our family car then it became mine. It will be my 19 year old son’s car next when he ages enough to appreciate what he’s got. I see so few of these cars around I was really glad to find this website and all the other cars out there.

Comments:My Father bought a 1957 Ford Country Sedan in 1959 from a Ford dealership on Hawthorne blvd in Torrance, we lived in Manhattan Beach Ca. I have just finished a total frame off restoration of the wagon and had a blast doing it.It took me about 2 years. My parents are really ecstatic at how perfect it looks just like the day they bought it. I bought the wagon from my parents my senior year (1975) in high school and it has always driven like a dream. Thank you for putting together such a great collection of cars on your site.

Comments:My late father bought a brand-new FORD every year from 1946-73. He passed away in 1974. Dad'd 1957 was a Fairlane 500 Club Victoria hardtop in solid Coral Sand with an all-Black interior. The car had a 312-CID Y-Block V-8 making 245 HP and Ford-O-Matic. For Christmas that year mu Uncle gave my Dad a set of Thunderbird valve covers, the chrome oil-filler cap and Thunderbird aircleaner. That engine made the most beautiful sound when you stepped on it and that big Holley four-barrel carb opened wide. I was only 10 at the time but I remember that sweet sound very well.

The 1957 FORD- The TRUE car of that year!

Comments:Thanks for all of the great pictures and descriptions of the 1957 Fords on this website. I used to own both a 1957 Ranchero and a 1957 two-door Ranch Wagon that was a U.S. Forest Service car at one time. I don't know to this day why I let those cars go but I still remember and love them very much. My Ranchero actually had a 312 G engine with a three speed automatic transmission that I could push start at about 15 mph! Someday I hope to get my hands on another Ranchero but until then I will visit here and dream.

Comments:I do not currently have a '57 but am looking for a Custom two door sedan. Had one in '66-'68. Ran 292 4 barrel and 3 speed for a while. Installed 300 HP 390 that was in the car when I sold it in '68 when I got married. That was two big mistakes! Had a Fairlaine 500 2 door hardtop for a while. Had a 2 door Custom 500 Ranch Wagon for a while with a 312 4 barrel and blower cam. Still have the motor. Did one thing right by keeping the '57 T-Bird that I bought in '65. Been running the factory dual quads since '66. Gathering parts to install a big input close ratio 4 speed in it. Have trans and shifter. Need clutch, throwouth bearing, front drive shaft yolk and some custom fitting to make it work. One of the best Fords I ever had was a '58 Custom 4 door from '63 to '65. Had 312 AFB, dual exausts, '63 Galaxie all syncro 3 speed with Hurst syncrolock, and 3.89 rear end. Had a lot of fun messing with the minds of Chevy fans with that one. Most people thought I had a 312 but it was a basicly stock 292. '57 &'58 292's had ECZ-G 312 heads and this helped a lot. Would like to find a '57 Custom or Custom 300 that was originaly a 312 but will consider any decent body.

Comments:I've been hooked on '57s practically my whole life...I have had many over the last 35 years, most recently, selling a sweet dresden blue/white 500 2dr sedan to a fantastic gentleman in Minn in 2007. I actually saw an Inca/white sunliner in your gallery that I owned a number of years ago, the pic is in my driveway!!
Anyway, been going thru withdrawl....looking for an affordable/solid 57 to get back into. Possibly, a clean 4 door. $20K plus cars are not practical for me at present. If you know of anything, my e-mail is above....thanks. This is a great website !!! (Also, I used to have a VHS tape "57 Fords Live"..it was made by a 57 Ford enthusiast in Az, I recall, bought it out of Hemmings. I loaned it to a collector and never got it back. If anyone knows of this tape, I'd love to buy a copy....thanks....Jim Norris

Comments:I just bought a 57 Ford 2dr. Custom. It needs a lot of help in the trunk and floor pan areas. It is a 6Cyl. stick with heater and radio delete. I got the old girl running and it runs sweet. It needed a new fuel tank badly so I ordered one from Mac's and it arrived today but I don't want to install it until I can locate a trunk floor and spare tire well. Any suggestions?

Anyway, I am enjoying your site and appreciate your efforts in helping to preserve this great car!! 57 Fords are boss!!

Comments:My husband's first Ford was a '57 then a '58 Ford Custom which was stolen from him.At 40 he found another '58 which he restored with my now 40yr. old son who's first car at 17yrs. old was a '65 Fairlane. They worked on that together too.My son's next car was a '55 Merc.Ford family for sure.Anyway my husband recently had heart surgery. His '58 has sat for some time.He needs the chrome for the taillights even if they need to be rechromed.Anyone know of a source for them. The ones on it were sent away and the person ruined them.He was very upset and I'd like to get them for him. Thanks guys.As Ford guys you know how much his baby means to him and this may get him going again.

Comments: There are many beautifully designed vehicles from the begining of automotive time BUT the 1957 Ford has it all. They talk about the '57 Chev and I give it props but line for line, fin for fin the Five-Seven Henry....need I say more?
Long, lean and low. Fins: not too tall, angled just right, big round tail lights blended to perfection to accent their
presence...superb! Flowing lines sculpted in the mind of a modern day Michaelangelo. Comparatively speaking and as nifty as the Chevy was it comes to mind it's design came more from something out of Ken Keasey's "Electric Kool Aid Acid Test"! Now Now, it's not a put down but it just doesn't flow and move from every angle like the Ford! Come on, does it? Look hard! Sweet but arrow straight.
My father spent 55 years in industry mostly out of Dearborn Design Center (pilot plant and Wixom and many nationwide to boot). From '39 to '54 at GM and the next 40 at FoMoCo. He was chosen to head many projects at both! WWII he headed up a bomb sight project and worked on several prototype fighters for GM.
Some oldtime Lincoln lovers may recall the flaming assembly line of 1955! Dad troubleshot and corrected that memorable situation. (Hacksaws were flying that day including the plant manager.)
He went to the Boyer "Bullet Bird" feasability program to head not long after that. If it bolted on or if the top went up and down he was in charge of getting the design to production! (with one memo from Mr. Iacocca to my dad the "Tonneau Cover" came to be his baby to ready for the public also.)
Although he never had the 1957 Ford project he once told me he studied the '57-'59 retractibles knowing he had to revamp the entire converible mechanics on the '61-'63 Birds and Lincolns. (On into the '70's)
At the tender age of seven I was geeking waiting for pops to tool down Greenview (NW Motown) in our Brand New '57 Willow green four dr. Country Sedan Wagon. Honest to God it's as fresh today as it was that day in 1957! The color, the shine, the split fold down rear seat, that new car smell.....! Never before nor since have I been moved by an automobile like that one. That all new baby was the hit of the neighborhood for months. I was the coolest kid around for a time. Kids I didn't even like wanted to hang so they could get a ride in MY DAD's Henry Wagon.
Mom loved her as much as anyone. I remember her coming home all upset. She was annoyed beyond belief. It would seem Hotrod Hannah (dad's pet name for mom) for the first time was beaten off the line by what she called a moron man in an Oldsmobile 98! He was acting as if he was going to turn right next to her then suddenly nailed it and cut in front of her. You just didn't do that to El Tigra in her Ford with a Thunderbird V-8! I have no doubt this normally easy going Christian lady sought revenge in some form. We will never know. Now no smashed Olds 98's were ever found nor dead moron men driving one. I'd like to think she caught up to him in a retalitory strike, put on her right signal and smoked a hefty left and clipped his bumper but then again! She always taught us to forgive. I can understand how hard that must have been for her. She talked about that Olds when we would bring it up right up until not long before her passing in 2001. With a smile or a laugh but she never forgot, you could tell!
Not long ago I stumbled across an envelope ma had marked "Greenview Memories"! About 80% had that good ol' friend to our family! In one form or another, sitting majesticly waiting to shuttle us off to where ever. A fin, bumper, window or in it's entirety backdropping the four little monsters posing before motoring stately to church!
Throw in a dash of Bob Mitchum honkin' down some darkened country road, moonshine in the trunk, tearing up his 5-7 souped up Club Sedan and I ask but one question: IS IT ANY WONDER WHY ONE MIGHT LATCH ON TO A MEMORY OF OR THE 1957 FORD itself? The car that more then any other represents fifties stying! Via Con Dios', fellow '57 Henry Buffs, Frank PS (GREAT site here, all the info anyone would need for snaggin' onto and redoing a Henry of 5-7 as well as seemingly good folk! Hope I didn't tick off too many Chev owners, I love the '57 Chevies but love da Ford a bunch more!)

Comments:Guess I'm stuck in 57 - I've owned a Bronze 57 Thunderbird for 40years, a Colonial White 1957 Country Squire with red interior that was built right here in Mahwah, NJ and still is apx 85% original. I also own a 1957 Ranchero from Monrovia, CA that I'm trying to finish and when I do, it will be done in its original color paterns of Starmist Blue and Colonial White with an ABC interior. I was even able to obtain the original woven straw headliner from a company in LA. Without a doubt, for me, the 1957 Ford is the best and as far as I'm concerned, you can't have too many of them either! ..... got a Sunliner?

Comments:After five years of putting together a '50 Ford F-1 show truck, I became really tired of attending the shows without a hot rod. One day, out of the blue, I stumbled upon a '57 Fairlane Club Sedan in pretty decent shape. I picked it up from a fellow who was in a hurry to sell, and got a screaming deal. Now I'm having so much fun with the Fairlane that, Ive all but ignored the F-1. These cars are a blast, and with a few modern conveniences (e.g. upgraded p/s, pdb, p/w, and air) are every bit as comfortable to drive as the Lexus...but with way more appeal. It's smiles and thumbs-up everywhere you go!

Comments:Wonderful cars; I have owned 12, sedan deliveries, sedans, parts cars, etc and just purchased a pillared hardtop; very interesting car, sat in a garage for 40 years! Factory air, 312, a lot of it has been unmolested, very late production; July '57, I would like to share some info and get opinions; Ford made running changes on these cars, some are very visible; the front bumper being one change, my question, radiator; Ford changed the top tank, added ribs to strengthen it; was this a late change or did it happen only on the '58s?? Give me your thoughts, thanks!

Comments:as a 3rd generation Ford dealer, I love the 1957's! I just read in a book that the '57 Fairlane led to the demise of the Edsel and the unpopularity of the '57 Mercury since it was really a medium priced car with a Ford name. My grandparents had a '57 Fairlane for several years. Great car!

I see those cars in the "resting place" section of your site and think if I could get those fenders, that body, that hood, etc. I could MAKE a new '57. I'm currently doing a 1955 Ford business coupe street rod. I really love the site and if I do get a '57 Fairlane I'll know where to go for technical info & inspiration.

Comments:What great memories this site brought back. In the late 60's I bought a '57 Fairlane 500 club/312 T-bird engine, in willow/cumberland green with just about every option that was available from the orginal owner for the outragest sum of $90.00. I drove the car until the mid 70's when I traded it for a hi-po 289 engine to replace the one I blew in my 66 mustang GT convertible; that my son drives to this day. Unfortunately the mechanic I traded with son wrapped it around a tree in the early 80's.

In my humble opinion, this was the prettiest Ford to ever come out of Detroit, the lines are classic.

Thanks for the memories.

I carried my parts to the meets in my 58 Ranchero with an Edsel nose and all 57 interior, but I got sick and had to sell most of my stuff off. I did keep my 1st 57, a Fairlane 500 4DR sedan and a few choice parts. Got married late in life and the Ford and my wife are the same model, she says the Ford is a keeper, cant wait for me to restore it - and tow our new vintage 1967 Silver Streak trailer with it, so I have two restorations to be working on.
Great site, I'll be forwarding it to my cousin who I sold my Ranchero to.

Comments:I have the 1949-59 Fords as one of the top 12 photo car groups and about 27% of the 1949-59 Ford group are 1957 Fords, I have found at car shows from 1975 to the present. I also found one Courier built on the day my former supervisior was born, "07H" 1957. I also did the "Supercar" series in the 1960s as the kid with the flying 1953 Ford Victoria Hardtop. I'm also associated with 1952-54 Fords. But the 1957 Fords rule & also make sure you accept the 1957 Meteor series because they were modified Fords built for Canadians from 1949 to 1961 and they were Ford-based cars. The 1957 Ford Custom, 2-Dr. Sedan is also the unsung "Supercar" also. Believe it or not the 1957 Supercharged engines also could be mated to automatic transmissions. For some 1957 Fords were better than 1958 Fords. I have 3,404 photos of 1957 Fords in my collection of 1949-59 Fords and There are 954 '58 Fords found in that year span. See you next time

The car is in great shape, runs & drives great, and is ready to take to the next level of restoration. My friend & I don't have a place to do it, so if anyone is interested in buying it, please let me know. According to the web site, only 6888 were made, with many being wrecked in early NASCAR & dirt track races because they were easy to convert with no back seat. There can't be but a handful left running, and this is one. Thanks for a great site!!

My first car was a 57 custom 300 in 1965 and I still have the car. I restored it 10 years ago and it is still my best vehicle.
I also have a 58 custom ranchero that won the 2006 world of wheels in its catergory. It is in mint condition and I drive it every now and then.
Found your site while looking for a part. If you can help, I could use a chrome valley pan cover, B6A-6519-A. If not, I enjoyed your site and I'll be back. Thanx!

Comments:My first car was a '57 fairlane 500 2dr hardtop, Dresden Blue and white. I bought it from my brother's best friend who ran a service station. He had bought it from a customer because the engine smoked pretty bad. Charlie put in a 292 and auto trans from '60 station wagon. I bought it in June of '67. Drove it for a year parked it and bought a Volkswagen. Sold the Fairlane back to Charlie, he did some work on it and sold it to someone else. While that person had it the brakes went bad and he ran through a fence. The owner of the fence kept the car to fix the fence. His son worked for Charlie, so he gave the car back to Charlie. I ended up buying the car again for what was owed on it from the guy who bought it. I had it hauled from place to place when I moved. The city kept getting on to me for open storage of an "abandoned vehicle"
I didn't have a garage. I finally sold it to someone else. I found out later that he pulled the engine and sold the body to a scrap yard. I was not happy. But, some day i will have another one.

Comments:I love your sight. It brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. My Dad had a 57 Fairlane, it was baby blue and white. I remember how I loved the front headlights, and the rear tail fins. It was such a sleek car. It was very sad for me when he sold it to the neighbor across the street for $45.00, if I would have been a couple years older I would have bought it, but I did get his car that replaced it, a 1962 Galaxie 500 with a 390. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Restored/modified the car as my college project and drag raced the car during the mid 80's running 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile tracks in Indiana. Been saving the car for my kids who can't wait to drive it. Worked on many of these 57 models over the years including having the pleasure of building a wiring harness for a retractable hardtop that was involved in a fire prior to its' restoration.

Comments:The first car I owned (after I got my driver's license) was a 1957 Ford. Thanks to this web site I now know it was a 70B tudor sedan. V8, 4 barrel 3 speed. My father worked at Cadillac dealership that took it in trade in 1964 and was going to wholesale it. Paid $125. Low mileage, two tone gray, excellent condition except it needed a clutch. Light turned yellow for side traffic. Put in first let clutch out and by the time it turned green you might be rolling. I quit college a few months later returning from Mich to Mass to parents who were not too happy. Going slow, at speed limit (55 mph) across Canada. An older lady and her sister, both in 70s turn left in front of me in VW bug. Said "Oh Sh.." aloud, slammed brakes and headed for ditch on right. Loose sand, slid 250 feet, hit left front of Ford to right front of VW at entrance to side road over gully. I rolled twice ended up on roof. VW spun 180 and shot through ditch across field through fence coming to rest in field. Passenger knocked out of car, driver broke ankle as she slid across to right side breaking off gear shift. I woke up 20 minutes later sitting on passenger side roof. My passenger was still unconcious on driver side roof. Tried to open door and window but didn't work. Heard fluids running out, afraid of fire. A scant 117 pounds, I had to break off rear view mirror to get out windshield that was popped out. My exit knocked car off balance so several men held it up for passenger to squeeze out. Roof on driver side squashed to bottom of window, about 8 inches high on right. Only rear bumper and one tailight lens undamaged. Everyone at scene thought we were dead and didn't bother to try to get us out of car. Both women in hospital, critical so Ont. Prov. Pol. offered me choice of jail or stay in hotel, but don't leave town. Next day, both still alive. They were charging them with illegal left turn said I could leave. Could not abandon car though and could not sell it either because of customs laws. I ended up with a real nice document (now lost) signed by Queen Elizabeth (I think it was a facsimile signature) that said I gave the car to the British Empire. At least one woman was still in hospital 4 months later. Her insurance company tried to weasel out of paying for car but I ended up with $200 in the end. My injuries: one layer of skin from elbow, about 3/8 diameter. My passenger's injuries: none. Being poor, I had not yet installed seat belts. Lesson I learned: don't buy convertibles or hardtops. I did own a 1953 Victoria for a while, but otherwise stuck to that lesson since then. There was an adventure that followed, but has nothing to do with '57 Fords.

Comments:Mine was a Fairlane 500 Sunliner, raven black with white vinyl top and wire-wheel hub caps. It had a 292 and a 3-speed overdrive transmission. I bought it for $275.00 back in 1967. I yanked the 292 and dropped a 390 into it before I put it up on blocks when I went into the USN. My parents were getting tired of looking at it rust away so, they asked me if I wouldn't mind if they got rid of it. They did. My last rememberance of the car was watching it go by, stacked on a flat-bed trailer, with several other cars that had just gone through the crusher. I recognized it right away by the STP stickers I had put on the front fender. I miss the car terribly. I want it back.

Has seen better days, but now I'm getting up to the challenge of fixing her back up. Interior is original and falling apart, as is the weather stripping, etc. Just took my 83 yr. old Mom for a short cruise today. It was her mother's car. Still a great ride!

Comments:I purchased my first '57 Ford in 1959. It was a Fairlane 500, 2 dr. Hardtop - 'E' Code/2 -4bb Holleys with 3 sp. stick. It would top out at 70 mph in 1st, 105 mph in 2nd and, once buried the speedometer during a race. Traded it in, in 1961 for a VW. Aghhhh! In 1990 bought a '57 Fairlane 500, 4 dr. Hardtop and restored it to original condition. It has a rebuilt 292 cid with A/T. Since then, I have purchased a '57 2 dr. H.T. that I am restoring now and another 2 dr H.T. for parts; a '57 Custom 300, 2 dr. coupe and a '57 Country Squire Wagon.
I like '57 Fords. Great website.

Comments:I have been looking for my first car, a 1957 Failane Club Victoria 2 door hardtop for over 20 years, my dad purchased one new in July 1957, it was Dresden Blue and Colonial White, he gave it to me when I was 17, it had automatic and 312 engine. I have a 1955 Thunderbird and had in the past a 56 and 57 Thunderbirds, but always really wanted that blue and white Fairlane. Well, my wife got transfered to Maryland this past September from California, and on our way I learned of a 57 Fairlane in Oakland, Maryland, since it was on our way, I stopped and looked at it, It was a 292 with automatic, and guess what Dresden blue and colonial white in good condition , I got it finally after 20 years!

( on the way,I stopped for the summer in Memphis for training school)While stationed in California i bought 2 57 Tbirds and a 57 Monterey.Pretty crazy for an E3 sailer to have a fleet of 57 Ford products all at one time, good thing they were cheap!Ive owned many '57 Fords over the years, but that Sunliner was my favorite!Ive been '57 Ford krazy since 1957 when all I wanted were the f&f free toy Fords in Post cerial.I drive a '58 f100 with mech.updates daily as my shop truck and have a '57 Merc 2door Voyager awating restoration. Comments:You all are lucky that you already own these beautiful gems, perhaps someone can aid me in finding one myself. I am specific in what I want, 1957 Custom 300 2dr. The 500s are just as beautiful, but I like how the 300s are shorter.

In this process I would also like to find a 312 and re-create the supercharged version they came out with. I am currently corresponding with a Comp Cams tech consultant to see if they can custom build a valve train for it.

I have only found one for sale but am having a difficult time contacting the seller and I fear it has already been sold. There was one for sale here in Wichita, but lack of money let it slip away. It will not happen again.

Enjoyed reading this guestbook. Feel free to e-mail me with any info or experiences in restoring these TRUE LIFE Hot Rods.

No matter what your friends think, if you enjoy it, live your life in the "far lane".

My brother gave me my first "57" with a blown engine on my 16th birthday, from that day I was hooked. I now have a "57" Tudor straight axle Gaser, one of it's kind that I'm aware of in Michigan. Edward Johnson of Warren, Mi. was the previous owner, he darg raced it in the early/late 60's. It's ready for street rodding in the spring of 08, Woodward Cruising! This is my true dream car forever!

I own a four door stationwagon, 1957. 312 v8, three speed and overdrive. It has a couple of long running cracks in the windshield, so I do not drive it very much. I would like to find an ORIGINAL windshield if possible. Also, I need a heater core. I have done some business with Concourse, I know who they are. By the way...Does any group have free E-Mail for Ford fans??
Thank you.
