Comments: Have just discovered my husband^s GGGrandmother was born in
Guernsey Island, she was Martha Bichard born 1838, somehow went to Australia, married John Young (born U.K.) in Geelong Victoria, Australia in 1853. Had five children in Australia, then came to New Zealand about 1867 and had six more children, lived eventually in Napier , Hawkes Bay, North Island N.Z.
Have searched your most wonderful 1841 Census, amazing site, Martha Young(Bichard^s fatther was John Bichard, mother ?
Found only one census at The Passe, Thomas Bichard 49, no wife,on Census, only Martha found, date no quite but? Martha , I think had a sister Rachel who , was supposed to have married a Joseph Langlois(Isee he is an"Islander" as well). married in Victoria in March 1825, 1856, in the presence of one Nicholas Marquis Bichard, it sort of all fits. (work in progress)There is a John. James Daniel amd Rachel 4 years old. These family names continued through to the children of these two.,in Aust>@ N.Z.
My best wishes for the New Year, and well done, Dale N.Z.

Comments:Just read a delightful and informative novel by Mary Ann Shaffer, The Guernsey literary & Potato Peel Pie Society, given to me by my sister. She thought it would interest me as we have heritage from the Channel Islands. We have not done much searching for Dad's maternal grandparents, but we do still have a timber dresser built by Edmond Henry Collas and brought out by ship to Australia with them in the 1850s. We believe they came from Guernsey. Can you enlighten me as to where to look. You have an amazing production, lists compiled. You must love genalogy and history - I hope so! Congratulations. Thanking you, Merci

After his retirement, he went back to his original trade has a Sawmaker, I am searching for the maiden name of Mary but no luck so far. Thank you anyway.

Comments:I have recently been given an old Bible with some social history written in it and would like to try and return it to the original family, but the words 'needle' and 'haystack' come to mind. The Bible was given to Emma Priaulx Armstrong by her father in 1895, when she was 13. It was originally owned by her mother Mary Armstrong - but because her daughter had Priaulx in her name, it may have been her mother's maiden name. Mary died in childbirth in 1885. Mary's husband's name was Edmund Ireland Armstrong. I think that Priaulx is a channel island name - can anyone help me please?
