Comments:Craig -

It's been five years since you passed, and I can honestly say that there has not been a single day when I haven't thought about you.

I struggled with losing you for many reasons, not the least of which was the fact that I miss you like crazy. It has taken me years to come to terms with the fact that I didn't realize that you were really, above all, my best friend in the entire world until you were gone. It pained me that I never got to thank you for that and tell you how much you meant to me - even though I think you probably knew.

You were so much a part of my life when I was becoming an adult. You taught me so many things about how to treat others, how to deal with the difficult things life throws at us, and how to handle it all with grace and a sense of humor. Even in our worst moments, you taught me lessons about being respectful, patient, and committed. You called me on it when I was being pain in the ass (a specialty of mine), and you helped me celebrate the successes in my life. I know I tried to do the same for you, and I hope to this day that I did a good job. The lessons I learned from your life and your loss continue to shape the person I am -and the even better person I hope to be by the time my ride in this life ends.

It's hard for me to understand that you've been gone for 5 years because there are times when I feel like you're still here. I was out last night when one of the firehouses in my neighborhood poured into the bar after commemorating the loss of nearly their entire stationhouse in 9/11. In a room filled with people who were also grieving and simultaneously celebrating the lives of those they loved, I realized that so many people struggle to cope with the sudden loss of loved ones. What's important is to remember them - what they contributed, what they taught you, and what they meant to you. I learned so much in the 14 years I knew you, and I've continued to learn thanks to that relationship even since you've been gone. Sometimes the memories are hard to deal with, sometimes they make me cry, but most of the time they make me smile. I can still hear you laugh, and it makes me happy that I was able to make you laugh so many times in your life.

The other day I caught myself air drumming in my apartment. I smiled, knowing where I picked up that occasional quirk. Even though you're gone, it's moments like that when, to me, you're still here. I feel confident that somehow, some way, I'll see you again, my friend. Until then, I'm stuck wondering if I air drum lefty...

I miss you and love you, as do so many others whose lives you touched.

Alex

Boy do I miss you today and every other day you should be here with us. The good memories get easier to remember these days and I can smile on this date now instead of cry.

Kendall is growing so fast and still calls you her "legend".

Mason loved to listen to your music with me and says when he gets big he will play drums and oh yeah, wear a helmit too. My little lefty makes me smile everyday. Thanks to you he is here and I thank you for him.

I love you Craiger and think of you often. You are my legend too, and "legends never day"!

Your Big Sis,

angie

Comments:Craig,
Five years have passed and I still have your ID card in my wallet from when we went to the Spring Inn the night before you passed away.

I love you and I miss you. I think about you all the time. I still get chills when I hear "Don't Stop Believin'" and remember us all singing it as loudly as possible in the car and being all ridiculous. I heard it today, oddly enough. I also think about you whenever I hear windchimes, eat sushi in Chicago, have a beer at Estelle's, see Matt's tattoo, or pass your exit to the Elmhurst house when I'm home (among hundreds of other things that spark my memory of you/us). I know EVERYONE is really missing you right now. It's not okay that you're not here.

Someday :)
Ash

Erik fancied himself an aspiring rockstar, and I (like many kids my age) dreamed of playing guitar in a rock band too. Anyway, Craig came out to jam with us and it took me all of 30 seconds to realize how awesome he was and how Erik and I had no business playing with someone so friggin good. I regret not being able to see his gigs.

I was commenting to my friend about how fucking AMAZING that snare sounds & how clean and articulate he plays on his cymbals. I am saddened by his death. i was at the skate shop and talking about how there are no real hard core skate rock bands. I said "yeah, all there is really is Monster Trux!" Please know that Craig has inspired me to smash out the drums. EVERY time i hear MTX (Monster Trux) i say hell yeah, that's how you do it! Can you PLEASE tell me what kind of snare he used? Take care and my best wishes to the family who produced an awesome drummer. Don't give up and don't back down. His drums STILL bang in my head!

I met Craig and the band in a coffee shop in Denver, Colorado. It did not take long to learn the guys and I were from the same home town. And I had to go see the show that evening. It would be an understatment to say I was blown away, not only by the band but the drummers energy off stage. We kept in touch and I was able to get a glimps of the wonderful man he will always be to me in my heart. A true humble gentalman, I will miss him greatly. It was an honer to have him in my life.

My thoughts and prayers are with his band-mates, friends and family!

Comments:Hey guys, I'm a very new fan and I've never been out to see one of your shows and for that I apologize. I'm also very sorry for the loss of your drummer. I was turned on to you guys by my FATHER!!!!!! Please Read On. You guys played a the Ski Convention in Las Vegas a couple years back, or it might have been in Salt Lake, my dad doesn't remember. Anyways, he was the floor manager from the convention and part of his job was making sure that bands maintained the proper volume levels for the convention center. Well, of course you guys didn't and he had to go over and tell somebody in the band to quiet down. In turn he was given a three song demo of the band with the songs "Ruptured Spleen", "Go Skate or Go Home", "Old Ghost". Dad gave it to me and for some reason or another I didn't pop it into the disc player until about 3 months ago. My friend Chris is a really big fan and suggested I do it. Well I instantly fell in love. I'm sorry to hear of the tragic end to your band, and I wish you guys luck in anything you decide to do in the future.

I met Craig over a year ago when Monster Trux played at the Mediterranean in Santa Cruz, California. We talked that night about Chicago since I was going there in a couple of weeks, and he gave me his number to call when I got there. He ended up showing me around one night, and I had such a great time. Since then we kept in contact and I always looked forward to hearing from him. Craig was an amazing person. I could never believe that a person would make such an effort to show someone around their town. I’ve never met anyone so sincere and kind. I could never say enough good things about Craig, he meant a lot to me. I am so thankful and blessed for knowing him. I will miss you Craig!!

I met Craig when Monster Trux were on Local 101. He was such a great guy, one of the most sincere and earnest people I've ever met. It may seem stupid, but the thing that struck me first about Craig was how rough his hands were...between the drumming and the construction, it was like gripping a rock made out of sandpaper. It always made me smile, though.

Craig will be missed. The Halloween show won't be the same without him. My thoughts and sympathy are going out to his family, friends and bandmates.

I lived with Carolyn and Karissa in the City and I met Craig at our first party. It was a big party and I didn’t get to talk to him, so my initial impression of Craig was through our post-party photos~every photo of Craig captured him not with a smile (as most people do in photos) but with a contorted expression. My reaction was: “Who IS this guy?” and Whitney, his former roommate, explained Craig’s character and I started to understand. Then I started to hang out with Whitney more and began to interact with Craig more, too. Craig became a person who I couldn’t wait to see and talk to because we always had great conversations. (And I have to say that my BEST New Year’s was with Craig and Bob). I miss Craig already. Craig is a great guy. He cared about each person he met. He wanted the best to happen to everyone he knew. And he enjoyed people and getting to know them. Craigers will always be in my heart and on my mind. ~Laura Lenski

On more than enough occasions than I or the CRC staff ever deserved, GMC (and his band) was generous with his time for CRC and I appreciated every minute; I was proud to have the band featured in our magazine when we were publishing, proud to have had videotaped their awesome performance, and proud to have had shared a stage with them at one time. Comments:It took me a while to write because honestly I'm still in such a disturbed state, and can't quite find the words to describe how I feel.

I met Craig about 5 years ago when Joe Hiltz recommended him to fill the "drummer" position I needed to for my band JAVA. I had been writing with a guitar player for the past year and it was time to put a full band together. Craig showed up and played, and I was blown away. When my guitar player said that he had a few other drummers he wanted to listen to, I proceeded to tell him that he was free to go, Craig was staying. And over the course of the years, musicians had come and gone, but Craig was my constant. Not even so much a constant as a bandmate, but as my friend.

On the plane ride home from Nashville last week, I was putting together a little picture book for Craig's family. The guy sitting next to me asked what I was doing. As he looked through my pictures he said, "Wow, you two were really close, huh?" That killed me. I realized most of the pictures weren't of JAVA shows, but were of us hanging out on weekends at the bars, at parties, or at someones house.

Even when JAVA decided to retire and all of us went on to pursue other avenues of music, I still felt the connection to Craig. We didn't talk or see eachother as much, but I knew that I could call him any time and pick up where we left off. And that has probably been my biggest regret as of late. I think Craig knew how I felt about him, I just never made a point of verbalizing it. A fellow musician and mutual friend of mine and Craig's said to me, "It's strange, but musicians who create music together seem to connect on a whole other deeper level than people realize." So one of the things I've taken away from this tragedy is this...TELL PEOPLE YOU LOVE THEM WHEN THEY'RE HERE!!! I wish I had.

And the real irony of it all is the JAVA song "Back Again".
I wrote it before I met Craig, I just never knew I wrote it for him:

"An altered vision,
Things aren't always the way they seem
That's when you saved me
You turned my nightmare to a dream
I can't believe the way that it used to be
I can't believe this love you've given me
A simple friendship
The transformation didn't take long
I closed my eyes and I
Met your spirit through a song
I can't believe the way that it used to be
I can't believe this love you've given me
And then you're gone and then I cry
It's just so long it's not goodbye
I'll just hold on, at least I'll try
Till you're back again, back again
You're far away now
I know it's time for me to pretend
I hear your music
And you're here again."

So I'm saying it now and I hope you hear me...
I love you Craig,

Tiff

If there is one lesson to be learned is that the only real suprises are tragedies (Frankly I don't care if I spelled that right) and with determination, conviction, and perseverence we can truly march on and make the people left behind that much happier in rest.

Comments:I met Craig on a local music website when he answered my post as a bass player looking for a band to jam with while my current project Squai was on break. Craig was playing with a band named Java at the time, and they were on the prowl for a bassist; I lucked in. That meeting would prove be the beginning of some of the best times in my life.

In the years to follow, Craig and I spent allot of time together. A couple of months after our meeting, Craig moved in with me and a couple of other peeps to a house in Elmhurst. We lived around there for 3 years, until just recently when Whitney and I moved out, and Matt Bones moved in. We had some kick ass times, some killer jam sessions, and a couple good keggers. He was the absolute best roommate anyone could ever want.

Some of Craig's most powerful influences on me involve music. While living with Craig, he introduced me to a shitload of new stuff. Whether it is was listening to the faint rumble of Slayer or Slipknot coming from his room while he was falling asleep at night or him dropping off a CD on my desk with a note saying "Check this out", he was always turning me on to something new. We would always go to shows together down in the city, and he introduced me to some of the coolest people I have ever met. This was typical of Craig though... He always knew half the people in the room, and was always good at making introductions. He introduced me to some of Chicago's best musicians, a few of which I have had the high honor of playing with at some time or another over the past couple years. In fact, we were just putting the finishing touches on some of Craig's best work in our most recent project together named 24 Frames "http://www.twentyfourframespersecond.com".

What I realize in reflection after his passing is that Craig was responsible in one way or another for some of the best times I have ever had. The unfortunate thing is that they had just begun, and they will be sorely missed. Definitely.

I hope that heaven has wireless internet, because it sure would be great if Craig could have known how impactful his friendship has been on me... I admit that I never took the time to let him know just how influential he was...

I miss you Craig. Keep an amp warmed up and a bass in tune up there, I'll be around for sound check one of these days.

Cheers pal,
Corey

Comments:I met Craig online after seeing Monster Trux play a couple of times in the Chicago area. The impression I got from him was that of a "Real" person. When I was able to catch him online, he was always willing to chat. We'd talk about music, work, and life in general. I am greatly shocked and even more saddend by this news I just came across. I usually would be able to catch Craig online a few times a week, and he was always positive. Never heard him complain about anything. I haven't cried in probably 10 months over something sad, but this was a big shock. My heart goes out to his family, friends, bandmates, and everyone else that knew him more than I did. I'm know that I only saw a little bit of what kind of person he was, but he was a cool dude. He will be greatly missed by many people. Just as I finished that sentence, a Monster Trux song came on my jukebox. Legends Never Die.

Comments:Imagine all the times in your life when your heart was hit with a fucking ton of bricks. This time it was yesterday afternoon, when I came off a 2 hour drive from DeKalb, IL. I logged on to find a number of my friends had posted "Craig Garber 1971-2004" on the bulletin boards. Wait just a second. No. I read the bulletin and made it through a couple of sentences of the first paragraph. No. Not Craig Garber of Monster Trux and 24FPS (the latter of which I had a brief and meaningful stint as a guitar player.) Not the guy who came to every show I went to and played... He would make time to tell me how much my music and playing had inspired him. He was the most humble gentleman and musician I have ever met. In 24 frames, I showed him the opening riffs I wrote for "2001". While everyone else's heads spun, trying to wrap around the idea... his eyes locked onto my fretboard as he began to beat the shit out of his bass drum and snare in a syncompated kick to the balls. My horribly neurotic way of playing has never been caught onto and understood so quickly. There was a electrical bolt of creativity arcing across the room. The other players fell in place as soon after Craig had, and when it came time to drop the Monolith Riff, his eyes would light up right before he would machine gun the toms in the drum fill.

We Launched The Monolith and it laid to waste all our pre-concieved notions of 'heavy'. Craig's face twisted up as his arms and legs became machinery. As he bludgeoned the china cymbal, he would mouth "Ohhh Yeahhh!" as the other players were busy tossing their axes around like lumberjacks. When all was said and done, he let no secret be kept about how much awe this music had inspired in him. Then it would be time to go. I will never forget his kind smile and his firm handshake. Firm is an understatement for the kind of shake that would be inflicted by a man twice or three times his size. A man at the funeral had spoke that his heart was just as huge. I'm glad someone said it out loud, because I knew it from the beginning.

We will meet again some day, Craig. You take care of yourself.

I learned a lot from him about drumming and life in the all too short a time we spent together. I continued to learn even more from him in death. As we gathered and paid our last respects, I couldn't help but see the way he positively enhanced so many lives and it made me re-think the way I live my own. I could recount innumerable tales of playing shows together, talking shop and helping each other load our kits out. I admired his drumming and his incredible energy behind the kit, plus he just looked cool playing in that skate helmet. Anytime we were playing with Monster Trux, I knew it was going to be a great show and a fun time. I'm gonna miss ya Craig!

Every encounter we had, I left thinking,"damn, what a great guy."-Not only was he in a kick ass band, but he was real. I remember one night at the Metro, I was by myself, looking stupid, when suddenly I got a tap on the shoulder, it was Craig. We made small talk amongst the noise, and continued to watch the band. To this day, Im fairly sure he didn't realize how much I appreciated him being there with me,But it meant everything. I stood in awe, not because of the band we were watching, but because I was standing with someone so amazing and talented: Craig. He is someone I can look up to. Class, with a capital C. I only met Craig and the Trux once, when i booked them to play a skatepark out in Dallas, TX last summer. Craig was the main guy i communicated with and felt that we were friends, more then that... we were bros. We skated together, played together, e-mailed each other periodically, and always sent gear to each other. I don't know what to say.... i'd heard there was turmoil in the ranks supposedly because they cancelled a show out in Dallas in July, but knew nothing of the details. I never heard back from him since then. I only hope that his family friends and the band can take comfort in knowing Craig was a wonderful person, kind and just totally rad all around, and wherever he is, I'm sure he is at peace, and we will all miss him terribly.

Comments:I first met Craig when I was working in the booking office at Double Door. I'd seen the Trux play many times before, but had never spent any time getting to know the band members. Initially, he struck me as quiet and shy. How wrong I was....

Craig used to come talk to me when I was stuck working coatcheck/merch or beertub. And he'd always ask if I needed anything, offering to run for drinks, food, gum, whatever. That's just the kind of guy he was. And honestly, mostly what I needed was something to quell the boredom of my isolation from the crowd. So he'd hang for a bit and we'd chat. About music, about skate shoes, about other drummers' playing styles, about how important it is to be passionate about what you do and do what you're passionate about, about anything really. And he was one of the people who really encouraged me to take the plunge and attempt a career as a "sound guy." Again, because that's just the kind of guy he was.

So Craig, thank you for the encouragement, for the friendship, for the pizza. I will miss you sorely.

Comments:Matt Montalto introduced me to Craig at a Monster Trux show in early July. I was lucky enough to spend the rest of the summer with him, learning about him, his music, his life. I have already talked about my personal feelings for Craig to his family and friends, but for this, I have to talk about his music.

His music, obviously, was the most important thing to him. We talked about music a lot, and he found a way to respect any music that was brought up. He was not a music snob; he could appreciate it all for what it was. Maybe he just didn't want to make fun of me for my music, I don't know. I'm really happy that I have those conversations about music to hang on to. He was so informed on all of it.

He showed me the unfinished tracks for 24 frames and he was so excited and proud of the idea/concept of the band, and of his work on drums. As a student, I thought it was so cool that his 'homework' was to watch "A Clockwork Orange" and take notes for research. I was looking forward to seeing him play with his new band, and lucky I got to see him with Monster Trux.

I think everyone feels lucky right now to have had him in one way or another for even a second in time. Whether you were a friend, a roommate, a bandmate, family or someone who was a fan of all his music he's left behind, we all are better for knowing him and can only hope we can try to become the kind of person he was to all of us.

I miss you a lot, Craig. I hope I can see you again someday. Thanks for everything.

He was right. I did like them, and I tried my hardest not to miss a show since. I always made sure to be right up front with my camera. Trux always put on a great show, and they'll always hold the spot of being my favorite band to photograph. I knew that I would never be disappointed ... even if I didn't get any good photos, at least I had a fun time trying.

I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Craig that night; it was a while before we were introduced. But once we met ... well, Craig was that rare kind of person that made you feel that, just after meeting him, he would be your friend for life.

There were a lot of shows -- both those that Trux played and those they didn't -- where I saw Craig. I always had a better time when he was there. Being the girlfriend of someone in a band (and a quiet, new-to-the-group girlfriend at that), I spend a lot of the time on the sidelines while the guys talked shop. But Craig ... he seemed to know that I was shy and felt a bit out-of-place, and he always made a point to come up to me and say hello, to make me feel welcome and included. And then after the show he would ask me if I got any good photos. And I always complained ... I could never get any good shots of the drummer.

I believe that I am a better person, just for knowing Craig for the short amount of time that I did. I just wish I had taken more photos ... and tried harder for some good shots of the drummer.

Comments:I only spoke to craig for a few seconds on a couple of occasions but I admired the incredible job he did playing drums for Monster Trux. Being a longtime friend of Matt's, I always figured there would come a day when I'd know him better. Considering all the great things I have heard about him, it's hard to accept that I will never get that chance. He will be sorely missed.

Comments:i know everyone's already said this a million times, but craig really was one of the kindest people i've met. ever. i swear, he knew i was shy and would go out of his way to come talk to me at shows and make me feel comfortable. he was incredibly genuine. awhile back, i used to bug him online aaaaall the time...whenever i'd see "monstertruxrule" pop up on my buddylist, i'd have some stupid question or comment for him. no matter what, he'd take the time to write me back. he was always so humble, he'd flip any compliment i gave back onto the rest of his band. i even remember joking with him that i was going to marry monster trux one day--not an individual in the band, just the band itself. he just laughed and said "go ahead". i used to see the trux every chance i got...they're one of the reasons i met sean...this is all just too sad. take care everyone.
good-bye craig, i'll really miss you...

Comments:Hey there, rock star. I couldn't quite bring myself to visit this site before the visitation yesterday. After I saw the outpouring of love and support there, I figured I'd suck it up (for lack of a more graceful way to put it) and check out the Trux site. No surprises here outside of the sheer number of people whose lives you touched so intensely that they've chosen to share their love, heartbreak, and amazing memories. I hate that I'm never going to get a call from you again to talk about friends, family, music, work, or just to shoot the breeze, but I look forward to the day when we'll meet again. You'd better have some new stuff to play for me by then, because what you left behind will probably only hold me for the next 40 or 50 years. I love you, and you'll be sorely missed.

Playing with Craig and the guys was a dream for Matt, and seeing him like this made me happy too. Matt and Craig ended up becoming roomates and very good friends, I would hear about their "White Trash Thursdays" and all of the fun they would have together, they were closer than friends they were like brothers. Craig will be greatly missed by all, and I am happy to know that he had made someone I love so happy, and for that I will remember and love him always

Comments:I never new Craig personally, but I have been and will always be a fan of the Monster Trux. I thought Craig to be an amazing drummer. From the first time I saw them play to the last, Craig's drumming always stuck out to me as some of the best in skate rock. He knew what he was doing, and he did it well. I may not have a personal connection to him, but from a fan perspective his drumming will be missed and I pray for the best for his soul and for his family. Rest In Peace, Craig you made your mark and no one can ever take that away!!!!

He was always good for a cool conversation and laughs. Whenever I ran into him, my spirits were naturally lifted.
Craig, we played Saturday night and dedicated the show to your honor, I hope that you (as many times before) were able to stop by and rock.
When I one day run into you again, hook me up with a bass rig and lets jam.

When I think of Chicago and its music, Monster Trux will always remind me that there are still cats out there that are cool and brought something really fresh to the scene. You played some great music, laid down some heavy grooves and made everyone smile. I can say about you the highest thing I can say about anybody; that you made the world a better place then you found it. Your drums may be silent here, but your presence will always be felt by those who knew you. I'll miss seeing you at shows, I'll miss talking shop, music and everything else. Rest in peace, Chris.

Comments:Craig was easily one of the best drummers I've ever heard, which means a lot because, like Christian Danger, I too play drums and I'm very picky when it comes to music. But every single time I got to see Monster Trux, I was very impressed. My band, VBS, also got the honor of playing numerous shows with the Monster Trux, and through this I got a taste of how genuine and nice Craig was.
I could go through numerous stories of me coming to a show without a cymbal, or snare, or whatever, and Craig being more than happy to loan me anything I needed. Or when my bass pedal broke during a song, and as I looked around to figure out what to do, worried I was done for the night, Craig walked up and handed me his. Or when Monster Trux was playing the Double Door, I had written him to see if he had any more of the "cheap" tickets left, cuz I really wanted to come out and see them play. He responded by telling me that myself and Jenn, my girlfriend, were on the guest list and could get in free. All this just proves again what everyone else already said, Craig was a very generous and caring guy, always looking out for you.
I wasn't ever in a band with Craig, but below I still put "bandmate/friend" because every show we played with Monster Trux, it was like a big family, like we were all there together. Craig was a great guy, and I know I'll never forget him.

Comments:I first met Craig back in 2002. I was told to check out this crazy rock band that dressed up like skaters/monsters playing at the Metro. I was going into the show with the assumption that the band was all about the gimmick (like my band). Boy was I wrong! Monster Trux rocked. From that moment on, I have been a fan. I always pay close attention to the drummer, being that I am one myself. Craig was amazing. Powerful, fast, creative. He played so hard that night, he broke the chain on his kick pedal. I have been playing drums for 15 years and never once have I snapped the chain on any kick pedal. Once I saw that, I looked at Craig as one hell of a drummer. After the show, I introduced myself to the entire band and asked Craig "how the heck do you break a kick pedal?" He responded by saying "Because I rock man." After a few seconds of a blank stare from him, he burst out with laughter. He was funny too! The years that followed, my band played many a show with Monster Trux. I always looked forward to playing with Monster Trux because Craig and I would always talk shop before and after the show. He was a pleasure to work with because he had no attitude or ego. It was never a contest with him. Craig was Craig.

The Rosedales will miss you Craig. True to what you told me when we first met, you do, and will always, rock.

Christian

Comments:Many people say that if your lucky, you will get that once in a lifetime opportunity that you never thought was even a possibility. Craig knew how much the Monster Trux meant to me, and did everything he could to get me into the band. From the minute I joined the band he made it a point to make me feel as if I fit in, and from the minute I became his room mate he treated me as if I was part of his family.
Craig sincerely looked out for me and tought me more about life than I could ever imagine. I am so greatful to have become such good friends with all of the members of the band and am deeply saddened to know that one of my best friends is gone. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me. I will always remember you Craig.

Comments:GMC busted his ass for the Monster Trux. Seems like thats just one of the many great values that he brought into our lives. A hard work ethic driven with total dedication and commitment. And if you know him, it was obvious how humble, honest, and considerate he was to everyone. He could be your best man, build you a house, or blast a beat to a riff in your head. He never asked for the spotlight, and he would give you the shirt off his back. I am so grateful to have shared a stage with him, and shared a frienship with him as well. Craig was a great talent and an even greater human being.

Comments:i was just given the news about craig by an ex-bandmate of mine, who contacted me so i wouldn't hear it from someone down the line, and i truely couldn't be more saddened to hear that craig is gone. throughout all of the bands i've played with, worked with, or known, the monster trux - and all members of the monster trux - have always been a group of guys i've held in astoundingly high regard, for many a good reason.

i could take time to reflect the band hanging at the rolemodels house, or running into craig at shows, but that's for all of us to do, to just keep remembering, but right now i think it's more important to let the band, his family, and other friends know that there are alot of people that legitimately cared and always will.

there are alot of other people who deserve space here alot more than i do, so i'm going to wrap this up quick - craig, just like any amazing musician and amazing person, will always be remembered, and remembered well. much love to all his family, friends, and to all the monster trux.

rip in peace, GMC.

Comments: I think I could write a book about who Craig is to me, but it is hard to say anything given this situation. I just want to be able to hear his laugh in the van or him sound check his drums. He beat the shit out of them.
In Monster Trux Craig was the rock for the entire band. He maintained the web site, took care of the on-line merch stuff and was the contact for all e-mails to the band. His house was the headquarters for Trux. We practiced, fought, talked, kissed and made up, had meetings and took care of business there. He made sure things were taken care of. When we would go on tour I would drive the boogie van,
but he would have map quested the entire tour. He was our rock plain and simple.
Craig is one of the most upright, class act men I know. You know he
is there for you no matter what. I love him and I miss him and I still can't believe I am writing this, it sucks. I am lucky and better for knowing him.

Comments:Craig had a firm handshake. And I mean, FIRM. You'd never expect it by looking at him, but man... the first time we shook hands, I winced in pain. I wouldn't have been too surprised if he'd tossed me over his head, like we were both characters in a Tex Avery cartoon. But Craig wasn't that kind of guy.

Early on, the ELVi and Trux were playing the Fireside Bowl together, and Craig and I both showed up early. After sharing a firm handshake, we discovered that we shared a common trait... we were both the anal-retentive members of our respective bands. I liked him already.

Over time, our friendship grew, and one day I received a phone call. Craig had caught wind that John and I were looking to start a side project with a few other guys, and bashfully asked if he could "audition" as our drummer. I had to hold back from laughing. "Audition? Um... Craig... you're our new drummer," I thought to myself. I'm sure he didn't know it, but I thought of him as one of the best (and certainly the hardest-hitting) drummers I'd ever met. It didn't take long until I was heading down to Elmhurst every Monday to practice with what eventually turned into Twenty Four Frames. The band itself went through a few incarnations, before we settled on the lineup and concept, but I couldn't have been happier with the end result. Monday nights quickly became my favorite night of the week. In addition to the rocking, there was a ritualistic sense of "hanging out with the guys" that I loved. Much of the evenings were spent talking metal, discussing movies, and cracking each other up with South Park quotes. Every time, right before we'd start playing, Craig would bring me a bottle of water, simply because he knew I'd like one. THAT'S the kind of guy he was.

I talked to Craig the evening before he passed away. In brief, we discussed how happy we were with the recordings we had been working on, and how proud we were of the band itself. We both agreed that it was probably the most musically challenging thing either of us had ever attempted... and succeeded with. I (along with my bandmates) am extremely excited to follow through with our plans to finish the recording and distribute cds for anyone and everyone to hear. I know Craig would be too.

Craig will live on in my mind and in my heart forever. For myself and many of you, he is legend. And in the words of the mighty Monster Trux, "legends... they never die."

And to Craig... We will rock again someday, my friend.
