| Comments: | Just signing in. I've little info on the Figart origins beyond Alexander Figart, and would be delighted to know the origins. I find it interesting that Abraham Figart might be Scots. In truth, being either Scots or German makes more sense to me, since as far back as I've been able to know, the Figarts seem rather staunchly Protestant, and Figart Ireland is in a Catholic county. |

this is melissa figart from Ohio. I just moved to ohio from tennesee. My grandparents are Harold Kermit Figart & Laura Todd. My grandfather's dad is Edwin Earl Figart who's dad was Alexander who married Elizabeth. Anyway, I found the orign of the name Figart it's Irish and the variations you have are not exactly right. My daughter, Joanna Figart, sent to me the link for your web page. Isn't it odd that there are so few Figarts in the United States and yet we have likewise met so few of them? I agree that the name is probably Germanic. I taught German for 21 years and during one stay in Berlin, I found a Gertrude Feigert in the telephone book. The "ei" in Feigert would be pronounced as a long -i so I have often wondered if that might be the original spelling. Do you know Scott Figart who also lives in Texas? I believe he lives near Dallas, but I am not sure. Several years ago we corresponded by e-mail for a while. He also had done a lot of research on the family. By the way, I myself was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania! I was born in 1951 but my parents moved to North Carolina shortly after that. At some point in the near future, I hope to send to you the information that I have about my family. My great grandfather was also named Alexander Figart.
