Comments:Hello S/C fans,
I have a 39F McCullough supercharger - had it since the late '80s.
At that time, there was almost zero info available. The Mr. Kopel's web page was up and running.
My question: how many 39F models might there be out there?
I'm overseas and out of touch.
Thanks
Pat Hewitt

Comments:Jim, You have done a fantastic job of documenting the history of the VS-57 and VR-57 blowers. As you know I purchased what was left of the McCulloch-Paxton Supercharger Co. in 2000 and you have been able to find more info then I did. I will look over the complete site and try to fill in the blanks. Great job!!

Comments:Great site - never knew it existed until now .

My old boat (1955) which has a 331 Chrysler Hemi engine in it , originally was equipped with two McCullogh Superchargers . The Superchargers have long since disappeared and , I would now like to re-equip the engine with them .I assume they were VS57's.
Can anyone advise me whether this is correct ?
Does anyone have any for sale ? Must be complete .

Comments:Memories. My wife and I had a '55 Ford 2-door coupe that had been built by a fellow named Hotten who was linked in some way to Ford Racing. We bought it in '55 from the brother of the builder and drove it for two years. It had some suspension items reworked and Blue Streak tires. It's limitation was the Ford-0-matic transmission slippage at max power. The engine was the small V8 of around 272 inches, I don't remember the exact size. It was a going machine. 5400 in top gear resulted in unbelievable numbers due to the slippage in the tranny, but it sure took care of anything around.
The carb was enclosed in a pressure box, and the fuel pump also was pressurized. A Mallory centrifugal distributor was another part involved. Odd, though this had to be a VS57 the variable pulley was on the supercharger end of the drive and it used a tensioning pulley on a spring mount to compensate for the variance in the pulley.

Comments:Fantastic site.I recently came across VS57C12663 complete set up for Y-block Ford. Was purchased by the fellow I purchased from ,in 1956 or 1957. Looks new, besides the 4barrel bonnet and plumbing also received the 3-2 Edelbrock and air box you had a picture of in your collection. I may possibly set up one of our T- birds with the unit. Right now I am still amazed at what I found. Thanks for this wonderful reference. michael Picone.

I'm looking forward to playing with this new "toy" & will be installing it on a "HOT" flathead I'm building . I'm very happy to have found this site . The info here will really help! DAN

Comments:Thank you for the great website. I am true fan of the McCulloch supercharger specifically because my grandfather (Frank Bash, Sr.) had them all over his garage and basement when I was growing up. The picture you have of my grandfather on your home page is something I had never seen before now, and it is great! Thank you for a blast from the past. Keep up the great work.

Comments:Very nice web site. In 1957, the MA state police were issued cruisers with McCulloch superchargers. I purchased a complete engine out of a wrecked cruiser and put it in my 1954 Ford Skyliner. The car was to fast for it's own good. However, it kept burning #1 piston, which I had to replace several times. Finally, I contacted the McCulloch factory. They were aware of the problem and pointed out that when Ford designed the intake manifold, it was with unequal runner lengths so that the cylinders furthest away from the single quad, ran leaner than those close to it. It was (according to them) a Ford design flaw. I removed the supercharger, lost a lot of power, but no more pistons.

Your site is the ABSOLUTE BEST !!! thank you so much. Question: do you do carb modifications as listed for the wcfb.

I am looking for a complete set-up for my 1957 Continental
Mark II with the factory 368 engine (300 HP) from the factory
with 10 to 1 compression. Do you think I'll have a problem
with supercharger use. thank you very much..Terry

Comments:I have been beating my '53 Stude truck with its original 170 inch flat head for almost 10 years. Out of respect of its unwillngness to die I have been planning to see just how far can one of these 170/185 inche engines be pushed in the performance department. Until recently I had not considered supercharging, but it seems that a 'blower' may be the key to getting the gasses through the sidevalve system. The old beast needs a basic rebuild now, but I am hoping improve on the little monster while I am at it. I have amassed a couple of engines to try out variations. Great information on this site.

Please share with me ANY information you might have on the technical application (or parts) for blowing:
(1) 1956 Dodge D500-1 (dual-quad)Hemi in a Dual Ghia. This engine is now about 350 ci and breathing deeply. If you know hemi's, you know that nearly nothing interchanges from the blocks of Chrysler, Desoto or even Plymouth.
(2) 1954 Hudson 308 (soon to be 340)ci flathead six. Likely to be a sporting a single-quad on a hotrod manifold.

Performance and "Vintage-look" are of EQUAL importance. Email or calls to (316) 250-6026 are welcome at any hour. Thank you, Jim Moody... thank you.
