Comments:Since last I signed your dreambook, our 3 month old Jindo has arrived. He is just wonderful, and has been wonderful to the kids. He is a sweetheart, well mannered, and handsome. I'd like to find a local Jindo group to get together with for meetings in San Diego. I don't quite know yet how to contact such a group. Thank you very much for your site. This is the closest I've gotten to meeting and contacting other Jindo lovers. You are doing a wonderful service to the breed and their families. I would love to hear from you via email again. Until later.-Val

Comments:I got a puppy at 8 weeks and the person who gave her to me said that she was a miniature greyhound and lab mix, but I though that was a weird combination since the mini greyhound is so small. Then today I noticed a black spot on her tongue. so I started researching breeds of dogs with spots on tongue and i found this breed she looks like she could but she does not have as thick as fur. If you goto this website she looks almost exactly like the first dog but her ears not pricked up they are still down. http://www.gotpetsonline.com/pictures/gallery/dogs/alphabetically/korean-jindos/korean-jindo-0001/
I think she may be a mix.just please let em know what you think. Kayla from WV

Comments:I am in the process of purchasing a jindo puppy for my family. We are finally ready for a new addition to the family and our lives. But, I am a little scared. The breeder is not in the US. Do you have suggestions as to how I should handle this transaction to assure that the breeder is a good/ honest one; that the puppies are truly pure breed, good temperment, and not have been unsocialized or abused or neglected. Also what kind of papers do I ask for as any proof?

Comments:Hi,

I am glad to see your site back up running again. Since the last time I left a message here, my husband and I have gotten a white Jindo puppy(7 months). Her mother is a pure Jindo from Jindo island itself but I am not sure about her father. She used to look more like a Poongsan but now after her ears popped up, she looks Jindo.

I am so excited to have her, walk her twice a day, exchange affections and give her a better life (as far as I know) than she had in her mother land as she used to be an outside dog that had been chained since she was 1.5 months old. She is responding to us very well and taking it in strides in terms of getting used to the new surroundings as well as the new owners.

The information in your website helped us a lot in our preparations prior to the adoption and will continue to do so in our future with her.

So thank you and cheers to the beautiful breed!
Okhee

Comments:Greetings Ann:

I adopted Mr. Spitz several years ago from a shelter after spending some time with him and falling in love. I was told he was a Finnish Spitz (hence, the name) but, shortly thereafter, my veternarian introduced me to the Korean Jindo Dog and explained that Mr. Spitz is likely of that breed. About a year later, I adopted Ginger from the New Jersey chapter of the Jindo rescue project.
I would like to send pictures to your email address.
THank you for continuing the website. I find it informative.

Comments:It's been a pleasure to read this very good and informative web site. Thanks for continuing the work with it!

I don't own a Jindo but I'm in general interested in the history and evolution of dogs and dog types/breeds and I am a huge fan of primitive dogs. My interest for them was awakened when I adopted a white and ginger rescue from Russia 5 months ago. I first thought my Nana was a mongrel as she was a stray. However, it seems to me now that she is a laika (west siberian most probably) or at least mostly laika. I was further convinced when a woman, a laika owner, stopped me in the street while I was walking my dog and told me my dog seems a west siberian.

Nana is such an amazing dog with traits I've never seen on any other dog. She is almost like a cat. Lately I have been reading a lot about laikas and other primitive dogs slowly turning into a real junkie.

Comments:Hello,

I grew up in Korea hearing incredible tales about Jindos, yet I was never lucky enough to experience one in person. My parents had always mixed dogs of some sorts and kept them outside as guard dogs and I never got to bond with dogs in general.

My parents just got a white Jindo(mix 50%)puppy, which peaked my curiosity about the breed and the more I know about them the more fascinated I get by their temperaments and abilities. I admire them.

Since I have never owned a dog but would like to own a Jindo as my first dog against advices given everywhere in the web, I am trying to learn as much as I can about the breed as much as about dogs in general.

Your site by far gives most comprehensive and objective information about these amazing Jindos and I would like to thank you very much for your effort.

Cheers,
Okhee

Name of Jindos: Chuff
Comments:Chuff came to me from a soldier being set to Iraq on short notice. It is obvious the dog was well loved, but I had intentions of just fostering him until a proper home could be found. Little did I know that as soon as I saw Chuff he would be sleeping in my bed (which is not offered to my chihuahuas-not even my show dogs). Chuff is very quite, very loyal and assured his previous owner before he left that he would be happy here. The soldier will not be back in the states for 15 months, and has asked to see Chuff when he comes home. I think he knew that Chuff was going to permanently stay here and not be adopted out anywhere else. He is extremely intelligent with almost human like qualities. I can't say the same for any of my other 9 dogs. I can safely say Chuff has seen more of the world than I have as he did come from over seas with his owner from Korea. The story goes that Chuff would follow this soldier home every day from work and everyday from home. He would wait until his owner came out to "walk" him home. Chuff was officially adopted by the soldier and his family when the strays were being euthanized on the base. You see, soldiers would buy dogs while on deployment and then leave them, rather than ship them. Being a veteran myself, I had pre arranged for my cats to be shipped where ever we went and even though it was expensive, I would never leave them behind. Chuff's owner was the same way as proven by his Korean Passport.

I had no idea what a Jindo was until I met Chuff and he is obviously a Jindo and Dalmation mix judging from the floppy ears and additional brown spots in his otherwise white fur. He is pictured currently on wkdzradio.com under local happenings, and pet corner. I have featured him at our radio station, where I work, to inform the public that the soldiers families are not the only ones having to go through changes while deployment is underway and to not hesitate to foster or adopt a beloved pet.

We have always had our son around her and a male boxer came into her life about 3 months after we got her. They have played in harmony from Day 1. All of a sudden for the past couple of weeks she has been showing alot of aggression. She has groweld and snapped at my son and her and the boxer and been getting in 10 second fights. At first I thought it was the boxer because he is so much bigger and stockier then her but we were out side when it happend and realized it is all her. Does anyone know why this is going on? All the advice would be so helpful her because I dont want to get rid of her but I also dont want her to bite my son and cause injuries.

The boy is certainly dominant and bigger than the girl. Powee is white and Ginger is a white ginger. There is never a dull moment in my house anymore. I am not married and no children. They do sleep in a large pen that I bought them that is getting kind of cramped. I previously owned Huskies from 4 1/2 weeks until I had to put them to sleep (one at 15 years and the other 16 years.) I have wanted to have dogs again and it has been three years since Poogie left. As soon as they are six months old I will have them both spayed. Your website was very very informative. it's a sharp and well-balanced great work.
I believe that No expert will deny your interpretations, as you've made good writtings with prudence.

Most of all, I'm glad to know the fact there are some Jindos got CGC !!

I was quite apprehensive about adopting her initially because of the stories I had heard about Jindo's aggressiveness due to poor breeding in the U.S. However, when we first met her, she was in such a terrible shape that we simply could not say no. She was completely emaciated, fearful of people, her teeth were ground down to nubs (we still don't know how this happened??), and tips of her ears had been clipped and missing fur. I could not stop crying at the thought of all the pain and suffering she must have endured. Since then, Annie has recovered fully and is now a happy, intelligent, affectionate and mischievious dog. She makes us smile everyday with her antics and her intensity with everything she does continues to amaze us. Comments:My husband and I have owned dogs our entire lives, but a several years back my father found a stray jindo in Hawaii, Lucy. We had no history on Lucy, but she was immediately housebroken and so smart and loving. I went into a deep depression after leaving her (I stayed in Hawaii for an entire month that year) and my husband was desperate to pull me out of it. We had 3 cats and were worried about the prey driven breed. We decided to test the situation. I went to the LA shelter and adopted Marvin. He was 10 minutes from being killed. The staff there said that jindos tend to understand only Korean (at least in LA where they are mostly owned by Koreans). I separated the kitties and Marvin, but my orange tabbie Maggie snuck out and I found her sleeping with Marvie. He was so scared. All the other dogs were at the gates yelping. Marvin just stayed in the middle of his kennel curled like a doughnut, just as I had seen him on petfinder. It took 2 years to rehabilitate him from what I know was an abusive home, but boy this breed is smart- almost too smart. He knows how to open the latches and I swear understands about the same amount of English as a 3-4 year old. Walker is not prey driven, but the ultimate protector of me. Both go to the golf course at night a run around.

I will say that a jindo owner should know the following: 1) it's a breed that should live indoors and feel part of the pack, 2) they need exercise, 3) they need to be socialized. Marvin went to the dog park and doggie daycare every year until he was okay with other dogs. Many jindos are not dog friendly if not properly socialized, 4) if tested, I think this breed would top the dog intelligence charts, 5) they are loyal and loving beyond words, 6) while Marvin has been socialized to live with the kitties, recently when a third dog, visiting, attacked the cats, Marvin jumped in, although he had lived with them without incident for 6 years. Walker does not have the same drive. He's like a big labrador with the kitties, but extremely protective of me. Marvin took down a German shepherd once who was off leash and rushing towards my husband. They are not the biggest dogs, but they are fast and will fight to the death to protect you.

Comments:Dear Ann,
A beautiful Jindo puppy was given to my grandaughter in APril of 2005.She is white with a pinkish stripe down her back and on her tail. She looks like all the pictures I have seen of Jindos and the Korean family that gave her up said that her mother was a Champion. They could not keep her so I took her. She was only 8 weeks old and a handful!! Now that she is almost two she is the best dog I have ever had. I socialize her every day (at the dog park) and she is loved by all..dogs as well as people. She gets along well with other dogs, however, she does take the dominate position. One day there was a large grey dog who was terrorizing several of the other dogs..he tried with her. She jumped on top of him, rolled him over, held him at the throat, barked in his face. When she let him get up he wimpered off. All the people watching this said it was the most awesome thing they had ever seen.
Thanks for letting me tell my tale about my wonderful Jindo.

Ann,

It's great to see you continue on with all of your wonderful work of educating people about Jindos. Your rescue website helped me place a Jindo puppy in a loving home and I still correspond with the owners. I kept the other Jindo and 6 yrs. later he still amazes me on a regular basis! Thank you for providing such an informative resource for people who are interested in this truly special breed.

Comments:My 10 year old fixed female, is the hardest, most wonderful dog I have ever been owned by. And I do mean OWNED by. It took 3 years to train her, and still now she decided to do tricks or not. She is the loyalest, smartest dog. She amazes me everyday. My husband is the Alpha dog (elected by her) and I am the one she protects and defends. I am the trainer and my husband is her owner. This she decided. I thougth I was the owner, she informed me that this was not the case. She is always thinking and never does anything she does want to do. She is loving and kind to all, after she accepts you. She accepts other animals and will befriend timid dogs and will protect them. But a trip to the Vets is very upsetting because she hates being touched by strangers. Although at home she never bits, 3 vets were bit because of the touching. a Japanese woman visiting Colorado told me that she was a very special breed of Dog that is treasured in Japan, and that how I found out that I was owned by a very special dog called a Jindo. In the ten years we have lived in our house we have had about 20 mail persons and she has liked to extreme 3 of the mailmen and women, for some reason known only to her. Because of this, she will go out of her way to greet them. Those 3 people have been scared on more than one occasion by India running them down to say Hi. Thank God none of the mail carriers have sprayed her with mace. If she really likes you, she thinks that you should really like her, and she relizes that some people are scared of dogs, so she will keep her distance except if she has taken a fancy to them and then she will try over and over again to make friends. I so love this dog.

Comments:I was first introduced to Jindo's by one of my neighbors. For years, I had this neighbor with a red dog that would poke its upper body over the wall of the yard. I was always worried it would jump over it and come attack my dog when I was taking her for a walk, but it never did. My other neighbor down the street from this house, whom I used to babysit for, made friends with the guy with the dog that was on the wall all the time. She told me that the dog's name was Bear, and that he was a Jindo. I first made friends with Bear when I went to this woman's house. Bear came up to the screendoor and began to bark at me. I certainly wasn't expecting that since the woman I babysat for owned a border collie named Trudy. Trudy came up and barked at Bear, and they seemed to have an understanding. Bear backed away and let me in since Trudy knew I was ok. Bear often jumped over the wall to his house to come and check on my friend's house to make sure that she and the kids were ok. His personality intrigued me, and so I started learning about Jindo's. Meantime, when Bear hopped the wall and saw me on the street he was nice to me since I befriended him at my friend's house. I haven't seen him for a while, and so I'm not sure if Bear lives there anymore, but he left a very good impression on me of these wonderful dogs. I would like to own one someday, but I currently live in a city, and it's probably not a good place to own a dog that has a reputation of hopping walls. I am pleased to have found your website, and to see that more information is becoming available on the internet. I also applaud your article concerning the rumour that Koreans eat dogs. You handled it very tactfully, and I appreciate learning more about other cultures. Thank you!

Far and away, the most amazing, exquisitely intelligent, loyal, funny (he definitely has a sense of humor) and expressive animal I have encountered is my present Jindo dog, Reggie. A few have scratched his back (which hes loves) so now he makes buddy buddy with any that give him the slightest attention. I have had many dogs in my life but he is by far the best. In the last year, I have rescued 2 very young kittens.......found them on a fluke........and 2 very young pups......one from a neighbor and one beautiful baby girl pit.....just driving to work. Found them all wonderful, loving homes. Nika, however, was a bit different......there was a connection, she was already in the family, (My cousin's dog).
But, My darling angel girl Bella is 13 and has a few ailments that render her a bit crabby and protective. Also have a Pure white male kitty man, Buju, who isn't thrilled at the idea of an energetic dog running about.
Well, I gave in.
I love her dearly and whatever it takes, I will make it work!

Comments:Our store had an adoption event this weekend with animals from the ACC (pound) and we literally pulled this 1 year old nuetered male Jindo from the euthanasia list seconds before his time. He is a beautiful, well mannered dog and we are fostering him in our home until we can find him a forever home. We would love to keep him, but we have 5 cats and although he only wants to play, his prey drive is too high for us and I we are not the right owners for a dominant breed. He is great with people and other dogs.

It took her an hour to warm up to me but since then, she's identified herself as my protector. I gave her a few miles of run everyday and see her getting stronger already. She does not speak English. However, despite of our language difference, she closely integrated into the family in no time. An independent spirit, this is one fine dog.

(and yes i tried neutering them and they're still aggressive towards each other) please email me back and let me know what you think...

My Husband actually stole him away from an abusive situation in Tennessee when he was just a pup, but from the very start he was always MY dog. He followed me every minute of the day and no one could even give me a dirty look without him putting them in their place. I Loved him and miss him terribly. We never knew what kind of dog he was. The vets were also not sure what he was. It was assumed that he was some sort of Chow/Huskie mix. I just found out what that he was a Jindo this morning and I can't wait to tell my Husband when he gets home from work. I always knew that he was VERY special and now I'm hopeful that I will own another someday.

Comments:Well, I adopted Cody at P.A.W.S. on February 6th, 2006. He was registered as a German Shepherd. My husband found the markings of the Jindo and what we've read and see seems pretty certain that he is a 5 month Jindo male. He is precious! He beautiful and would be called a grey? His coloring is red and black with white paws...he looks like a fox when he puts his head down. His eyes are gorgeous. His weight and height are perfect for a young Jindo. I found someone today on this link who lives in the Seattle area. I need to compare Cody...I don't even think the vet knew what a Jindo is, or he wasn't interested. However, he did recognize my sincere desire to train Çody to like people and other dogs. I hope that is possible. Cody seems to be submissive to the little female Westie down the street but I'm nervous (after having a chow/mix for 13 years). We also have a male Weimey nearby, who would love to play...should I take a chance or wait a bit? Puppy biting is the only problem right now at five months. Ouch! Even a basket of his own variety of stuff gets old and my arm seems to look good for a chew...

Comments:I adopted Asta from my vet, who generously took care of him after an employee rescued from the street. Our best guess was that Asta was then a few months short of a year old. I brought him home in the hopes that he would provide company for my older dog, a male black lab who was, at the time, seven years old. There was an adjustment period. Once or twice Asta -- for no reason that was apparent to me -- would attack the lab. He was, at the outset, also quite agressive toward other dogs he would see on the street -- barking furiously and pulling on his leash to lunge at them. But these behaviors, which were never pervasive, have subsided and Asta is, without question, the most spectacular dog imaginable. He is everything you describe: extremely smart (I could go on for hours about that); extremely loyal (I couldn't ask for more); and extremely adorable (white with the tiniest bit of red on his years; people literally stop their cars on the street, roll down their windows, and coo over him). For my money, except for a lab, there's no better dog than a jindo!

Comments:This is the most loyal friend. She will out last and out hunt any of the dog in the field. I used to get grief about her size and breed but that has all stopped now. Shima is just a show off and never lets me down. She goes every where with me. She has become a close family friend in my house I would not own any other dog agian.

Thanks,

Comments:Hi-

I'd like to know more information about the Sapsarees posted on your website. We have one of the adoptees (Moongchi, the dad for all of the puppies born in the US). We got him from the Oregon Humane Society, and although he was there for several months after his donation and required a fair amount of behavior consult, he's a terrific dog.

Any more info on the other dogs? Also, any update on Kori? How sad.

Comments:I discovered I had gotten a "korean jindo" by accident. I got her at a shelter, I was told she was an austrialian cattledog...upon looking at a chart at the vets, I found she was not this breed , but looked like a shibu inu...so I looked this breed up and chatted with an owner , who told me by my description, I had a jindo , not an inu....so I looked this up and low and behold, there was my dog! She is yellow and white. So beautiful and gentle.. a true hunter in the back yard !! Birds, squirrels, she has the almond eyes with the brown eyeliner..she barks with a "woo woo woo"..but..she is a little finicky on eating..she must eat outside!!!!! I also have an older german shepherd,..they love each other..but the jindo wants to be "alpha" most of the time..so on occasion..the jindo barks very angerily in her face...what a growl!!!!! first time I heard it I was taken aback..couldn't believe it came out of her...but she is so loveable.. she is also quite stubborn and stands with a "hard" stance and look sometimes..I read that you should watch the eyes and I do.had I known what I had when she was 5 mos. old , I wouldn't have had her fixed. She is 5 yrs. old now. Couldn't part with her for nothing.
Thought I'd share my story with you.

Comments:Great website!
We have an adopted Jindo (Lulu) who's the love of our life...
Our problem is that we might be moving to Australia (from Northern Cal), and she faces a 1 month quaranteen in Sydney. She doesn't deal with strangers at all - so I wanted to know if anyone has ever been able to train/socialize a mature Jindo to tolerate being handled by new people without the usual fuss (vet visits are NOT fun).
We would NEVER give Lulu up, so her aversion to stangers might mean we stay where we are.
Cheers
Simon.

Comments:Rescued our white Jindo last Christmas from the Jindo rescue in Citrus/Covina area. She is wonderful!!! Prior to Indy Anna, we had a male Shiba-Inu named Misha. He too was a rescue dog from Minnesota. Misha lived until he was 15 and he passed away just before Christmas 2004. I went four days without a dog and then found Indy's picture on Petfinder. I love the Shiba breed but the Jindo seems more loving and playful. Maybe it was just that Misha was an old dog with glaucoma for a long time. They both are treasures-Indy to enjoy now and Misha to enjoy in memory.

Comments:hi! my name is Christina. I'm 12 years old and I LOVE your site! a friend of mine told me there was a site about Jindo's, so i went to you're site and like I said...I LOVE it! I'n not an expert about dogs, but i LOVE dogs...i have tons of books about dogs, cats, and all kinds of animals. i've been looking for sites that talk about Jindo's but i guess not a lot of people are familiar with Jindo's. well, i'm glad you put this up. I was born here, but my parents are from Korea. so, as you can guess my parents love jindo's too. well, i have a Jindo and her name is Choco. ohh, there's something i want to ask you...i don't think Choco is a 100% jindo dog. well, the people that gave her to us said that she was, but i don't think so. here, i'll explain what she looks like. Her snout is black, her body is tan, she has white feet, she also has white on some places on her body, and nails are black. her tail isn't all the way curved around either. it's curved a little but unlike most Jindo's, her tail doesn't touch her back part. please e-mail me or tell me your opinion of how you think about her bieng a pure Jindo or not.THANKS!

Comments:After a little research, we quickly rescued her from a pound. She's about 7 months old now and the best dog I've ever owned! My wife and I are quite taken with the playful happiness she's brought into our home and how she tries so hard to please us. A curious phisical aspect, I've never known a dog to have "working" toe and thumb claws? When wrestleing on her back, she'll grab my arm in a cat's paw-like fashion.
