Comments:Litter movement can lead to unbelievable strokes of luck. I have been traveling in Australia's east coast with my boyfriend for three months now. A week ago we were walking on the beach in Magnetic Island when something happened. We were just trying to figure out how to get back to Cairns where we live at the moment. As we walked, my boyfriend saw a dirty piece of paper following us with the wind and going upside down on the ground. He picked it up and had a look at the paper before putting it to the trash bin. The paper said "crew wanted (2 people) for a sailing boat". The boat was on the way to Cairns so we called the man who was looking for crew. Yesterday we arrived in Cairns. We sailed almost for a week and also visited Fitzroy Island and a really beautiful remote island. Because of Litter movement, we got this great and unforgettable experience that lasts for a lifetime! :-)

Comments:My family and I have been members of Litter Movement for several years now, and have picked up a lot of litter in Godalming, our home town. We also pick up litter when we are on holiday. It's nice to part of a worldwide movement of people who are doing this, and making a difference to our communities wherever we are.

Or as my Finnish wife says, "Finns aren't as clean as they think they are if the streets weren't cleaned for them all the time." We can do it as a community. I've my garbage "claw" that I got from the city of Helsinki, and I'm teaching my kids to make the world around them a cleaner and better place.

Comments:I found Litter Movement while stumbling with StumbleUpon.

From September 21, 2007 to March 10, 2008 I had a feature on my blog called The UnNaturalist. Every day I would have a photograph of something unnatural found in a natural setting - in other words, litter. My challenge to my readers was to participate in my project and go out and photograph litter, pick it up and dispose of it properly. Unfortunately I didn't get much participation. However, I found that I did raise consciousness. People told me they began to look at litter differently (they went from ignoring it to seeing it) due to my photographs. My thought was to create a website of litter photographs, but life's distractions have paused those plans as well as further UnNaturalist photographs. My photos are licensed Creative Commons BY-SA-NC and can be seen at coquinadaily.com (click the link to the Index and see September 21, 2007 to March 10, 2008). I would be pleased to have them put to use by a like-purposed organization.

This was to be the introduction to my website:

Interesting photos are everywhere, waiting to be discovered. Occasionally I find them. SeeLitter is a collection of photos of unnatural objects found in a natural setting - in other words, litter, trash and all manner of debris. It is easy to ignore litter. But when litter becomes a source of creativity, you search for it. Once found, and the photo has been made, litter is given a proper disposal. Thus with every picture, the landscape gets a bit cleaner. Everyone is invited to participate and submit their photographs.

You can get portable ashtrays of disposed film boxes. You can also easily decorate boxes with stickers.

Comments:Its admirable to see people taking action in terms of what I see as an one of the unwanted reprocussions of mass consumer society: trash all over the place and the irresponsibility that accompanies it.

Marketers' should understand that we have perhaps passed the point of 'diminishing returns (to speak language they might recognise)when it comes to desirability of overt product packaging. There is little taste in waste!
