| When did you first watch COMBAT?: From the very beginning. I was 9 years old then. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Combat is one of the best drama shows ever made, and after the first season developed into one of the most eloquent anti-war statements ever, ranking near (though not quite on the level of) 1930's "All Quiet on the Western Front." I find it endlessly amusing that something that turned out to be such a vehement anti-war show always came with the credit that "Technical Assistance from the Department of the Army is greatly appreciated." By the time the fifth year came along, I wonder how many honchos at the army were resenting having cut this deal? I've noticed very few, if any, war shows since then that the armed services have helped out with! lol What ever happened to good television drama? Can you imagine a single tv season where Combat, Alfred Hitchcock, Thriller, Naked City, The Outer Limits, The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive and Rawhide were all competing for your time? We've lost a lot since then. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I could mention some memorable episodes here that made a big impression on me (Hills Are for Heroes, to name one)... But to share something rather amusing, you could say that Combat introduced me to the limitations of network tv's budgetary limits (as if The Outer Limits didn't do that, as well, unfortunately) and the ingenuity they'd use to get around them. Years ago when I was first taping the show there was an episode where someone gets hit, collapses, and immediately gets up again, with his face covered in blood. "How the heck did they do that?" So I went back through the scene frame by frame and discovered that when he fell, someone beneath the frame had splashed his face with something at that instant, the blood! (I've no clue which episode that was, by the way.) |

| Comments about the web site or other comments: Nice site, and I'm glad to see you've been working on it again. Just a few suggestions: Since you aren't at "combat.com" (were you ever?), it would probably be advisable to change your top-left corner logo. You should find a better way to navigate through the site, especially to the episodes. Right now, if I comment on an episode, to get back (assuming I don't want to use the back arrow on the browser) I have to go back to "show" and then "episodes" and so on... Since I'm pretty sure most people come here to look at the individual episode reviews you should make it easier to at least bring up the lists of the episodes by year, put a way to the season lists in the sidebar on every page, or something. Speaking of which, I see you've been nice enough to put up a sidebar for the season 1 episodes, allowing people to jump around in them. Great idea...except that you've mistakenly labelled it Season 4! A bit disorienting... And (just another quibble about the navigation) I know you have a page with the lyrics to the theme, but (at least in the old days; haven't tried looking for it today yet) it's impossible to find! Nice page, but no other page on the site leads to it! The only reason I ever found it was by googling Combat theme, or something. (In fact, that's probably how I found this site!) And if that page is practically lost, then one can assume there may be more. (By the way, where did those lyrics come from? They were never used in the show.) And...are you ever going to reprint the book? I'd love to buy a copy, but I'm not thrilled about paying the going scalper fee of $75 or more for one on Amazon, which also isn't putting a dime in your pockets! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: 1962, if my parents let me stay up for the broadcast. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Saunders seemed realistic for a squad leader, trying to pull together a bunch of different personalities for difficult missions, and to fight a just war. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Jack Hogan (Kirby) was an underrated actor in this series. I would qualify his performances as at least on a par with Vic Morrow, sometimes better. Jack was also quite good later in his career as a detective on Jack Webb's "Adam-12" series. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: Boston area viewers: WMFPtv just started picking up the MeTV-based Combat! series broadcast and is showing the show weekdays at 3 AM. I believe the first episode was broadcast on 1/24/2012 with the "Forgotten Front" episode. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I began watching Combat! in 1964 at age 7. It aired on Channel 6 in Philadelphia, PA. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I enjoy the human aspect in a trying war. The compassion of the soldiers is more evident than the violence that surrounded them. Vic Morrow was a terrific actor who made the show seem very realistic. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: One of my first memories is the episode where Sgt. Saunders and some of the men are sent to a prison under the command of Capt. Steiner. I was only a young boy at the time and I was praying that the prisoners would escape! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: My brother had just been drafted in the Army in October 1962. I was 12 years old and my parents and I watched every episode of this show. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: IN each episode the characters taught valuable life lessons that even today I share with my gym class students. Those lessons include team work, hard work, ups and downs of everyday life and always trying to help each other to fulfill a goal I was born after WWII ended but the location scenes depicted a very realistic view of Europe and the enormous strategic plans that were needed to fight a world war. Our high school had discontinued offering German language classes, so many of my friends and I took French class. We all loved "Cage" and his french talk. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I do have memories of playing combat in the back yard and in the house with my friends and relatives. We all wanted to be Sgt. Saunders, and we all had to practice how to get shot and fall down. When I was in my first semester of college, my demonstration speech was how to bandage an arm and make an arm sling, remembering all the times "Doc" had to make one. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: Last October 2011, our local channel started airing the Combat episodes. I bought the complete DVD set, and every time I watch the show, I can still smell my parents living room, and hear my Mom and Dad cheering on the soldiers. Watching "Combat! with my family during my teenage years was one of the best times of my life and I am very happy to be re-living those feelings now. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I first saw Combat when I was a teenager in the 60s. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I started watching Combat reruns on METV for nostalgic reasons, and because my dad instilled in me a fascination with the Second World War. But after watching the first episode after so many years I was totally hooked on the show. Terrific writing, acting, music, the sets and cinematography are amazing. I love how it depicts Saunders trying to maintain his humanity in inhumane conditions. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I don't know the name of the episode, but it was set in an abandoned mine. Saunders, a character played by Sal Mineo (I think), and a German officer were trapped when the mine caved in. Saunders and the Sal Mineo character were captives of the German, who was forcing them to dig their way out. There was a further cave in, and the German was pinned down when a huge beam fell, and he became the captive. They were running out of air, and the Sal Mineo character insisted that they kill the German to preserve oxygen. Saunders refused, saying he could kill, but would not commit murder. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I have noticed the German guns sound different than those of the Americans. Does anyone know if that is so that we could tell who was firing, or were the weapons authentic? So nice to know there are lots of other Combat fans out there. Thanks for setting up this site! |

| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I liked all the characters, but especially Saunders (the epitome of a tough NCO) and Kirby (that B.A.R. was so cool!). When I was a kid I had a "Combat!" jacket with PFC stripes on it; now I have the whole series on DVD and autographed photos of most of the actors. |

I'm working on a project that I need some info...I need to know what awards Sgt Saunders and Lt Hanley earned...obviously they rated the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, campaign medals and mutiple Purple Hearts, but I need to know if episodes either show or mention them receiving medals. I'm currently watching the episodes again, but if anyone can direct me to specific awards, I'd appreciate it, thanks. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I was a real "war chick".......loved any show that was WWII related. My Grandad was in the 8th AAF in WWII. And my Dad was a career USAF man. I also loved 12 O'Clock High. Of course Sgt Saunders was "the man".....he was "the show". Always liked Vic Morrow. Great acting, great drama, great music. This was when TV was worth watching. I used to watch re-runs of Combat in the 70's. And now I am so glad I can relive the glory days of Combat on Me TV! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: First watched the Combat! series as a young teen. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Even in those earlier years, recognized the quality of the production and the acting. Father and uncles all served in WW II, thus had an interest in that era. Recently began to watch them again in the cable re-runs and now realize that they are even better than remembered i.e. the total quality is superb......nothing like it on the tube today. Being something of a military historian and weapons specialist, I see the occasional rare German weapon in the Combat! episodes that are not even found in high budget war movies!!!! Now that is GREAT! |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: In 1967 I was preparing to leave for service in the USMC. Around that time a pilot TV series ran for what I recall was one episode. Believe it was produced by the same company as Combat! as the overall quality was the same, also same network and so forth. The pilot USMC episode was titled -Assault!- and was about the USMC island campaigns and amphibious landings in the Pacific. The Imperial Japanese forces versus the USMC/USN. This was one extremely bloody, point-blank and well made TV pilot in blazing color, thus was no doubt made by the same Combat! production company. Much later after returning from Southeast Asia for stateside garrison duty, found that the Assault! series had apparently not been picked up for regular production. Assumed the war in Southeast Asia terminated that project in the same way it influenced the continuation of the great Combat! series. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: Have been trying to locate information regarding the Assault! pilot episode for many years now. It would be wonderful if the cable station now carrying Combat! could run the Assault! episode in some sort of special double presentation if such things are possible. Certainly appreciate this wonderful tribute site to rhe Combat! series. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: As a kid (born 1954)from 1962 to 1967. I tried never to miss it though it pushed my bedtime. My patriotic Mom was good about letting me stay up as her brother was a US Army European theater infantry vet. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: It is all about the people: Saunders, Handley, Caje, Kirby, Doc, Little John, and the others. Real people in challenging situations that held your attention. Loyalty, dedication, dealing with fears & stress, and the bond of friendship. Powerful music tied into the drama. It had such a positive impact on guys I respected. We were raised by the WWII generation and did not want to let them down. The Vietnam vets, and even today's Iraq & Afghanistan vets still talk about growiing up with Combat. "Check Mate King Two this is White Rook" was even a saying we laughed about in my two Iraq combat tours. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Like most of us who later went into the military, we looked up to the infantry squad in combat. Saunders & Handley were our role models. No matter what your occupation specialty, you understand that without the infantry "Grunts", everyone else is unemployed. I'll never forget Officer Candidate School & The Basic School in the USMC when instructors would remind us "Just because you are a Lieutenant, doesn't mean you get a jeep like Lt. Handley." Good one. Yes, we all served with a Kirby, Caje, Little John & Doc. And we learned to appreciate and listen to them. You knew that when they quit talking, moral was down. Leadership is all about learning & listening too. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: Need some help on IDing an episode! Our unit (I MEF, Camp Pendleton) received several CARE package copies of the first Combat DVDs in Iraq 2003-2005. What a great way to unwind when we had some time to relax. The young Marines also loved them. I never could find the episode I remembered as a boy when in closing, Sgt Saunders finally kills a determined German Sgt in their intense dual between a Thompson & MP-40, and I believe Kirby says to the remainder of the squad: "We had the better sergeant." Break to that classic closing, heartfelt music. THANK YOU COMBAT ... what an important part of America you are! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: In the sixties as a young kid |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: It was my all time favorite show. I've recently seen most episodes on an oldies station and continue to DVR them. It truly is a great show that holds up over time. Although I wonder why the Germans always had them outgunned! Saunders and the boys never had a bazooka, mounted machine gun, etc. I read that the machine gun Saunders carried around was made of wood because the real thing weighed too much, something like 16 lbs. Also, he hated guns in real life while Hanly was an avid hunter and gun enthusiast. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Because of the influence of the show, we all played army in our neighborhood and we had lots of real army surplus gear. A neighbor even had a real German helmet but his dad wouldn't let him play with it. I commanded my little sister, Private Pamela Paxton 1st grade. The worst soldier ever. She refused to fall down when shot. Only years later when I had my own daughters did I realize that she didn't want to get her matching outfit, complete with saddle shoes, dirty. She'd obey a few commands and go on patrol for awhile and then just go home and play Barbies. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I read a comment that someone was surprised at how many women remember and liked the show. The answer to that, at least partially, is that we all had just one TV in the mid sixties and you watched whatever Dad or big brother wanted to watch. At least in our house. I was the remote control as far as my big brother was concerned as he'd kick me off the couch to change the channels, all 5 of them. His biggest influence in the sixties was probably Moe of the Three Stooges. Great memories. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: The theme of war and combat is always relevant. There are always going to be brave guys (and girls!) out there, so its the kind of thing that could never grow old. The cast (and their acting) is, in my opinion, unparalleled, and there was so much talent behind the writing, directing, producing etc. It was aired again in Japan last year and tremendously well recived, so I hope now that its on DVD, more and more people will be able to have acess to seeing one of the greatest TV series of all time. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Simple.....it was endearing. I mean who didn't love Vic Morrow's camouflage helmet cover. Or the manner in which he slung his thompson over his shoulder. His mannerisms, simple traits such as the manner in which he walked and spoke his lines. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Vic Morrow was the he man's HE MAN. From his leadership to never really losing his cool, he was the best. I wish I could have met him. He did not deserve to die the way that he did. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: The one where Stockwell thought he was destined to die. The one where he fought alone against the tank traveling down the road. The one where Roddy McDowell played the German and the one where James Colburn tried to outsmart him as a German. I also liked the one where he received word at the start of the episode that his brother had disappeared in the jungles in the pacific and at the end of the episode he received word that his brother had just stumbled out of the jungle and was alive. That was a good one. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: Vic Morrow was an excellent actor and did justice to the show and to the veterans of WWII. Well done to them all. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Then, because as a kid if we wern't playing "cowboys and indians" we were playing "war". And given that the original broadcasts were only 20 years after the war, the show was like a documentary of the stories I heard from my parent's generation. Now, after seeing things like "Band of Brothers" and "Saving Private Ryan" I realize that whatever messages those movies were trying to say was already said by Combat ... 40 years ago. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Best memory is time spent with my Dad watching the show. "Billy the Kid" where a young officer (who everyone derisivly calls Billy the Kid) applies some orignal thinking and achieves the objectives of a tough mission. The episode ends with Saunders saying he will still be called Billy the Kid but now for different reasons. "Anatomy of a Patrol" which ends with Saunders asking the question "If I'm so smart, how come (he list several names)are dead. "The Short Day of Pvt Putnam" where another young kid uses an unusual skill (botany)to help the mission succeed. "A Walk with an Eagle" where the squad rescues a pilot and in the course of the story the squad and the pilot learn that each other are equally important in the conduct of the war. |

We have seen every episode at least twice and some as many as five or six times. His favorites are, The Gun, Headcount, The Long Way Home and The Leader. Last month I took him to LA and we found what's left of the Franklin Canyon locations. Still very recognizable in the parking lot area of the upper end. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I remember watching some of the episodes when I was little. My older brothers never missed an episode. I found them recently on late night TV (Me-TV) and just loved them. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I love the character, Kirby because he always says what others are really thinking. He had most of the best lines. My favorite episodes are the "Leader" and "Hills are for Heroes". I believe that Jack Hogan and Rick Jason did their best work in "Hills are for Heroes" due to the wonderful direction of Vic Morrow. |

| Comments about the web site or other comments: Due to Combat he has shared some of his experiences with me. He told me there were some things that he just would not share with me because they were too horrible. My Dad was in the Army Air Corp. But he did tell me a story about the time he was in Holland. He said that he was on a patrol with 4 other soldiers. They ended up hiding from the German's in boxcars. He said that the wonderful people of Holland fed them and kept them safe until they were able to get back to their own lines. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I must have watched Combat for the first time in 1969 at Tripoli Libya where my father was working for Wheelus Air Base and I was four years old. Then I was watching Combat in Greece at the beginning of the seventies. It was the most popular series at that time. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Combat was very popular out of States too. For all of us around 40s and 50s is a memory of our childhood. It was the first and ever since the best war televisions series that was aired on TV. In fact it is an anti-war war series and that is one of the reasons that made it that successful. The casting could not have been better all actors look and behave according to their roles. I also enjoy the Combat music theme. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: My best toy ever as a kid was a plastic Thomson machine gun and I was pretending to be Saunders. I was watching Combat as kid together with my father and now that my father has passed away I am watching Combat with my two sons. Sometimes late at night when everybody else is at sleep I watch an episode of Combat before going to bed. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I would like to thank all the people who were involved in the production of the Combat TV series and I pray for the souls of the ones who are not any longer with us. It feels that all characters like Saunders, Hanley, Caje, Little John, Kirby, Doc and the others are part of our childhood. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Sgt. Saunder's was my hero and one of my childhood idols (Mickey Mantle was the other). The show brought out the pride to be an American. I would play COMBAT in the field across from my house. I was Sgt. Saunder's. My Aunt Lou bought me a COMBAT set for Christmas when I was about 6-7. It consisted of a Thompson Machine Gun (which Saunders carried), cartridge belt, canteen and hand granades. COMBAT series brings me back to growing up in the 60's. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I loved this show so much growing up, that my son bought me the complete 5 year series on DVD for Christmas, this past year. I recall every episode I use to watch between 1962-1967, when I was 5-10 yrs old!! I loved that the show had alot of German & French language, with no sub titles. If you were watching closely you would know what was happening. Of course, often times Caje would interpet what was being said, or a guest GI who understood German would also sometime interpet. The filming was great for a TV series. It was like watching a movie each week. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I will continue to be a life-long fan of the show. On cold rainy wintery days, I will go to my room and begin a COMBAT marathon, and watch 4 episodes in a sitting. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: My father was in WW2. He was a corpsman with the 4th Marine Division on Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. He received the Bronze Star for repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire to evacuate and treat the wounded. So naturally all the stories he told me turned me into a WW2 buff. So this was our Father and son TV night. We'd always watch it together. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: i'm a self confessed world war II buff and combat has that griity realism about the war so far during the late seventies. also, since the philippes and the U.S. had a lot of shared history(esp. during WWII) i enjoyed watching a show where the yanks always win in the end. |

| Comments about the web site or other comments: I would love to see a re make of combat in TV today or at least some people in hollywood would get together and make a movie out of this TV series. the quality of the actors in the original series is top notch esp. vic morrow and ric jason. but what i like most about the show is that it always has some sort of a moral lesson so you just dont sit back for an hour watching guys bang away at each other. surprisingly, the different issues dealt with by the squad are still relevant today. three cheers for combat! |

I was lucky to be sent to Germany instead of Korea to patrol the Russian border where they expected the Russians to come across. | Comments about the web site or other comments: I have been trying to remember the name of an actor who played in a lot of college movies in the late 30's and early 40's. I forgot his name but I recall he joined the Navy during WW 2 and became a fighter pilot off one of our Carriers in the Pacific. He was credited with shooting down 5 or 6 Jap planes. After the war he returned to acting. His old squadron had a reunion on a carrier in Florida, I understand he had a heart attack and died at the reunion. He was in his 40's. He was blond 6' 200 and always played kind of silly characters. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I first watched Combat! when it came on the air in the 60's. I was in high school. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: If you had asked me that 45 years ago, when I was 15 or 16 years old and first watched the show, I would have told you I have no idea. Something drew me to it. The stories were so good I always wanted to see the next one. Today I know there are many reasons, but the main one is that it is a human drama. The war is the backdrop. The stories are about people and what they think and feel. The relationships that are established and those that must end are elements to which we can all relate. Few of my friends in their teens watched the show. But my best friend and I saw things they did not see. We saw friendship, loyalty, dedication, commitment, sacrifice, and people who genuinely cared about others. The show made me a more committed person. If people could be dedicated to something enough to be willing to die for it, then I wanted that kind of dedication. I found it - in a different venue - but I became committed to what I did because of Combat! |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: In the 1970's a friend and I went to a celebrity skeet shoot here in California. I had just introduced her to Combat! reruns and she had become hooked on the show. We had heard Rick Jason would be there. He was. We were able to talk to him and take pictures. He was extremely kind, generous and willing to talk to talk to us. This was before any dvds, of course, and we were taping the shows on VHS. We told him we had all of them and he said, "yeah, so do I." Mostly I remember his smile. I look at the picture of that smile and I regret that he is no longer with us. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: When I was a child, in 1966, I guess so. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I appreciate the fighting skills of the American forces in WWII, being potrayed in the TV series, as my father, a U.S. WWII veteran, a retired U.S. Army, always told me of the sacrifices of the American soldiers during the battle in the Philippines of WWII era. Although, my father was a natural born citizen of the Philippines, but naturalized after the war, he told me similar stories of how Filipinos and Americans fought side by side against the Japanese during the war in Asia vis-a-vis, the Nazi in Europe. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: When the TV series was revived in the local channel here in the Philippines, in the 80's, 90's and year 2000, it was just watching the TV episodes in the beginning, and a never ending story, which brought memories of a child who loved and a fan of COMBAT in the 60's. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: During the 70's when I was a teenager |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: First, I liked to play with toysoldiers when I was a child. Second, I became a very serious fan of war movies when a I was a teenager and during that time COMBAT was in a venezuelan TV channel. Third, I'm a collector of war movies from all over the world and in my collection are all the chapters of COMBAT in DVD. Fourth, my family was involved in WW2. My grandfather was sunk 3 times as a captain in oil tankers. My father was in artillery protecting Curacao shores. One uncle who scaped from Holland did his service in the British Intelligence because he speaked several laguages as dutch, german, french, english and spanish. He was a translator in Nuremberg Trials. Other uncle was in the british Navy. Fifth, the quality of COMBAT is amazing! |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I really like the chapters directed by Robert Altman because he putted a special touch to treat the stories and a special sense of humor in war situations. I liked the quality of main actors and the good selection of special guest actors. When I heared the song of COMBAT in the distance I runned like hell to watch it. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: It could be nice to do a remake of COMBAT in present times, with chapters maybe directed by Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford, Scott brothers, etc. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: The very first episode! |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: In 1962, when Combat! first aired, the youngest WW2 vet would have been about 35. Seventeen years before we had defeated the worst blight on mankind (Hitler) the world had known and now were living in a euphoric and very patriotic time. Two years later I entered college and signed up for R.O.T.C. as did every other able bodied young American of the time. Combat! gave us the opportunity every week to relive how they took the fate of Europe out of the hands of madmen. On a more personal level, it allowed many of us to see what our fathers and uncles endured. |

| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I watched during the first run in the 60's. Loved Sgt. Saunders. Watched religiously right after 9/11 (I'm a flight attendant) and more recently when I was struggling with a personal problem. Perhaps the draw is in the monumental struggle, WWII was perhaps the greatest challenge to society in the 20th century, and I somehow attain a sort of peace knowing good triumphed over evil and hopefully in my lifetime, in my world, good will always triumph over evil. I've never met anyone who came close to Sgt. Saunders~ |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: When it first came on. I was ten years old and could not be pried away from the TV on Tuesday nights. I was a lifelong devoted fan from the first episode. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I am sure that I got a heavy amount of my moral development from my parents, but everything I learned about being a man came from watching Combat. Even at the age of ten, I was acutely aware that I was receiving very valuable training in how men relate to one another, how to show compassion, how not to gripe when things get tough, how to look out for each other in a group and a hundred other moral lessons. Years later as a police sergeant, I could almost hear Sergeant Saunders voice coming through me as I was speaking to my men in various situations. I became a successful man and police officer due to the lessons learned by watching Combat! Every boy should watch Combat as serious moral instruction in its entirety. No other drama has ever had this kind of morally valuable content, except for a few Jimmy Stewart movies. The music still resonates in my mind during quiet times and the show in DVD form is getting me through my tour as a police officer attached to the US Army in Iraq. I dearly regret having not ever had the chance to actually meet Vic Morrow and I feel so cheated that Rick Jason committed suicide before I could meet him. I hope one day to meet Pierre Jalbert, Tom Lowell and Conlan Carter and just be in the presence of such greatness for an hour. Randy Haus FOB Sykes, Iraq |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Nothing specific - I felt that the show was as realistic as you could get without being gory. Violence was not gratuitous or wanton. The memory I will always have is of men who were scared and really didn't want to get hurt but who saw the importance of what they were doing. Even Kirby with his constant bitching always came through when the chips were down. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: To the cast and crew of Combat! You should all get medals for your profound effect on an entire generation of boys who were badly in need of heros and moral guidance in the age of hippies and flower children. | When did you first watch COMBAT?: Last year (2009). I discovered this show by accident when I was hoping to find a show JUST like THIS! |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I love Sergeant Saunders. He is sexy and MANLY. This is exactly how the WWII soldiers looked when they fought the big one. I love Combat because it takes me back to a simpler time when men were men and not the pussies they are today. Times were simpler and America wasn't the ghetto slum it is today. People were honorable and respectful. You could go out at night and sit on your porch without being gunned down by gang-bangers. We KNEW who the enemy was back then - the fucking KRAUTS. Today we are fighting in Iraq and such and we really do not know who is who or what we are fighting for. I am a veteran of the Marine Corps so I know what I am talking about. Semper Fi! I wish I could go back in time and shoot krauts with my sniper rifle. I like to daydream that I am in the resistance, like my grandmother was (she is French) and use piano wire on those German fucks. The USA and the world came VERY close to becoming NAZI fucks. We'd be subjected to a bunch of leather queen, raping, butt fucking KRAUTS. I know the Germans, they are a sick demented people. They apparently have a sick fetish about shoving hairbrushes and cell phones up their asses for fun! SICK. THAT is what we really faced had the KRAUTS won the war. What you and the rest of the public don't know about the war is that the krauts used to shove their MP40s up our American soldiers asses and shoot them. They of course, died, probably more of shame than anything else. They do not show this on tv or in books but the krauts are sexually deviant MONSTERS. I love Combat because the KRAUTS NEVER upstage our brave fighting men. I salute and worship every man and woman who is a WWII veteran. We need to be taking better care of these people. They saved our lives. THANK YOU to EVERY one of you. You are NOT forgotten. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: As the krauts also put my father in Auschwitz, a concentration camp in Poland, I am drawn to anything about WWII. This show gives me a great feeling because I KNOW without a doubt at the end of each show, the Nazis WILL lose. I love it when Sergeant Saunders shoots his M1 Thompson sub-machine gun. That is a COOL weapon. He looks like a knight in shining armor when he is walking with that gun. When I play "Medal of Honor: Frontline" on my X-Box, I pretend I am Sgt Saunders and I grease the Krauts. FUN! I don't usually go for "actors" but Vic Morrow is a REAL veteran, as is Rick James, and I love this. I love Vic Morrow. It was sad when he died making "Twilight Zone: The Movie." He was outstanding in that. In fact, that movie is the first time I ever saw this actor. He left an imprint on my mind. RIP Vic. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I am a huge World War 2 buff and I have a deep respect for our servicemen.Due to medical reasons(mild heart murmur)the military wasnt an option for me and this is a regret that is beyond my control.Combat got pretty close to the bone in its portrayal of war and the battle scenes are so much better than the cardboard crap Ive seen in so many other shows about war.The charachters are deep and rich and after viewing only a few episodes they feel like old friends. When I watch this show or the movie Saving Private Ryan and I see a charachter die an onscreen death I think well that coulda been me.These guys were ordinary people from every walk of life and culture who saved the world from a dark evil menace and I shudder to think what the world would have been like had the nazis won the war. With that said Combat also presents the German army with a certain sense of respect and is void of stereotypes.I also like the fact that the entire Combat cast were veterans rather than the kind of actors who have to be sent to an actors boot camp(even though they were for publicity)just to learn how to tie their shoes.Im glad that Combat ran as long as it did and made so many episodes that can be enjoyed repeatedly.I'm only sorry that I never got to meet any of these actors who were real heroes in the truest sense. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Vic Morrow was one of my favorite actors and had the same kind of brooding quality that James Dean,Marlon Brando and Montgomery Clift possessed.Rick Jason was probably the most underated actor in the world.I only wish more people could view some of his other work. The rest of the cast,Hogan,Peabody and Jalbert and Conlan Carter give you the feeling that you the viewer are really part of the squad. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I was 8 years old watching it on a little B/W TV.... |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Unlike a previous poster who thought watching shows like COMBAT glorified violence, I learned from watching so many well-written COMBAT episodes that war was NOT a glorious thing and that people died in it. I remember one episode where a new recruit joined the squad. A good-looking kid and I wanted him to become a regular. Little John took him under his wing, Doc was friendly to him, Kirby didn't seem to like him much but I knew he'd eventually come around, and I really connected with this new kid. He was killed at the end of that episode and I cried like a baby! Right then, as maybe a 10-year-old I realized that war took people and things from you and you never got them back. For me, COMBAT was instrumental in teaching me that wars didn't always end up with the good guys winning every time. War was an ugly thing.... |

Hanley, Caje (handsome as ever also) and the others, even Kirby, share the same integrity and decency as Saunders. thats why the squad was so successful in their missions. "okay lets saddle up, Caje take the point" |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I began watching as a child in the early 60s. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I enjoy Combat for its gripping action and terrific acting. It also showed some of the horror and heroism you find in wartime. At 54 I wish now I'd spend less time watching war shows as a child. It took many years for me to unlearn some of the harm it did to me. I became desensitized to violence and pain. As an adult when I had to deal with real deaths of loved ones, TV platitudes didn't help much. I would not let my kids watch TV like this today. Instead I would try to get them to read, play sports, music, do almost anything else but watch people kill each other. In the early 60s Westerns and war shows were common fare on television. I enjoyed playing war games as a kid, toy guns etc. I realize now however it delayed healthy and normal development in many areas of my life. I've never overcome that, and it's made my life harder than necessary. TV violence is harmful to your emotional and psychological development as a child. I can't watch reruns of the show today since it skips over the grief and anguish you'll feel once you lose someone. I can't imagine how soldiers did it. Of course once back at home they often PTSD. Vic Morrow and all the cast did a great job, and for entertainment it was very good, but it's not for kids. It made killing people look like fun and without any regard for the moral consequences. I almost joined the military in the late 70s, but a health problem kept me out. I was lucky, and many vets I've known still are damaged from military service. 2 of my brothers served, and they came home very different. Thanks for listening. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I played with toy soldiers as a kid (remember the Marx playsets?), and watched a lot of WWII stuff. I recently bought a boxed DVD set of the whole series and have gradually been watching them in order. A blast from the past. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: Generally, I have not been particularly impressed, seeing these shows after all these years. Of course, turning out 36 hour-long episodes in one year did not make producing this show easy. Still, it suffers from the usual conventions of the time. The Americans of course shoot much better than the Germans, and nobody ever runs out of ammo. The amount of fire laid down on both sides for the few people who ever get hit is rather amazing also, especially when the opponents are usually in full view of each other. Death is usually clean and quick, wounds are rarely (if ever) crippling or disfiguring. Germans all wear early-war uniforms, with 1960s styling. Saunders in ten minutes will go through ten clips of ammo, but he never seems to be carrying much. The spends 150 episodes covering, oh, July to December 1944. Several characters are wounded multiple times (always in a leg or arm). The tanks are all 1960s models. Hanley and Saunders seem such old professional soldiers, it is difficult to imagine either of them ever to have been a civilian. Hanley, with his deep voice and steely eye seems too Hollywood. The entirety of WWII, it would seem, was fought by little groups of four or six wandering in the woods and occasionally into a ruined town hunting for one another. Etc. Still, Kirby and Caje are both great characters, and Saunders is the quintessential tough though weary sergeant. Some of the plots are original, and the stories compelling. "A Cry in the Ruins" is one I was particular taken by. This evening I watched "Hills Are for Heroes" and I found it to be, beyond any doubt, the best of all. If anyone were to create a "best of" DVD for Combat! this episode would be the only one I would call an Absolute Must. If you only watch one Combat! this would be it. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: 1962, shortly after the series first aired. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: In addition to the fine acting, and even though the series was a sanitized version of actual combat, it nevertheless depicted a wide range of human sentiments while under fire, e.g., courage, fear, love, discipline, integrity, respect, compassion, honor, remorse—just to name a few. The series showed WWII in a microcosm from the squad level and paid the ultimate respect to the frontline infantryman. The different episodes and scenarios in the series brought together a diverse group of extraordinary individuals into a team whose duty it was to go out and accomplish extraordinary things, even in the most extreme circumstances. Combat! instilled in all (or most) of us watching a sense of moral duty and honor and showed us the difference between right and wrong. When it came right down to it, Combat! was not only about people serving their ideals—it was also about people serving each other, even up to the point of and including making the ultimate sacrifice. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: As for the show, I can remember only bits and pieces of episodes. Combat! came on every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:30 (Central Time) on ABC. That timeframe was my “sacred time” for watching Combat! As a note: For the longest time, I was misunderstanding the proper callsign and thought they were saying, “White Roof” instead of “White Rook”. Finally got that figured out. One of the most famous episodes I remember was “Hills Are For Heroes”, which showed the futility and eventual tragedy of following a superior’s order that wasn’t properly analyzed and planned out in the beginning. I also remember the episode “The Little Carousel” about a French girl wanting to be a nurse to the wounded American Soldiers. In the end, it showed her picking flowers, oblivious to a nearby land mine. My Mother was watching the show with us and I distinctly remember hearing her utter a loud gasp! Of course, the land mine detonated and the French girl was killed. Another poignant episode that I remember was when SGT Saunders was caught behind enemy lines in a bombing run (or artillery barrage) and got his hands severely burned (from what I remember, Saunders' hands were just blackened--nothing more graphic). The remainder of the episode showed him wandering all alone in a daze through the woods and countryside, trying to get back to the American lines, even once stopping briefly by a pool of water to soothe his burned hands. Finally, “The Furlough” was an extremely heartrending episode with the beautiful Carol Lawrence as SGT Saunders’ brief love interest. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: SGT Saunders was my hero when I was very young (6 or 7 years old). I thought that he was tough and indestructible. LT Hanley was my second “runner-up” hero. After I got home from school and on Saturday mornings, my best friend and I would play Combat! with our plastic toy (Mattel) rifles, submachine guns, plastic grenades, and makeshift Army uniforms in the vacant lot (that my grandfather owned) next door to my house, shooting at and maneuvering towards imaginary legions of advancing German soldiers. I had previously gotten a helmet liner, pistol belt, canteen, and two dummy .50 caliber bullets for my birthday from an Army surplus store downtown. I almost wore out the helmet, belt, and canteen from wearing them so much. Later on, I got an old jacket and my Mother sewed some chevrons (“sergeant stripes”) on it for me. I remember trying to dig a foxhole next to the vacant lot, but quickly gave up when I hit solid rock about 6 inches down. I only managed to widen the foxhole, vice digging it any deeper. Another friend dug his foxhole next to mine. The other neighborhood kids frequently joined in with us in our war games. When the weather was bad, I would stay indoors with a friend and we would play with our plastic Army men. We would spend the better part of an hour setting them all up. I also remember coming across an old Army-issue “butt pack” that still had my Father’s name and rank stenciled on it. I tried to make it into a rucksack (backpack) but was unsuccessful. I still have it today, after over 45 years. SGT Saunders, LT Hanley, Cage, Kirby, Littlejohn, Doc, and Billy will always be a special part of my childhood memories. Finally, and needless to say, Combat! was one of the main reasons for my entering into military service ;-) |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: From the beginning. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Two views: as a child growing up: very 'cool', kids play on TV, adventure, smoke, guns, and the U.S.A. ALWAYS won in the end! as an adult revisiting the series: high, high, high production value, great cinema on the small screen, great stories, class characters, well thought out, high degree of realism. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Combat peaked third season, but many of the fourth season shows were even better, but they were getting fewer viewers. I actually never watched a 'color' Combat live, only recently since buying the dvd's. I like the fact those were not speeded up, and that many of the shows still were shot on the old locations, so CBS could not harm the value much. Did not like the shows of that season much first time through, but they are very well written and do grow on you. I now beleive some of those were as good as any. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: As much as I'd hate it, I would like it if the terrible 'Garrison's Guerillas' was made available. It after all effectively replaced Combat. Any chance of that happening? Also, it is a good thing Hogan's Heroes was on another network, or, as certain as my name is not Horatio Cane the 'Squad' would have appeared in Stalag 13 needing Col. Hogan's men to help get them home! |

| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Toy cap guns were very much played with in the early 1960's. Mattel made an interesting one soon after Combat began and I received one as a gift. It was a .45 Thompson and many times I was Chip Saunders charging a pillbox! You put the caps in where the clip is, pull the bolt all the way back, and shoot. It would only fire semi-automatic. Each shot, the bolt gets one notch closer to the front. If you were lucky and the caps didn't jam, there were a lot of "rounds" before pulling the bolt back again. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I remember sitting in the living room when my Dad brought home our very first television set. One of the programs we were allowed to stay up for was Combat. I was old enough to catch the first season and remember liking it because my dad, who was in WWII, would help us through the episodes with what he remembered from that time. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: The series "Combat" as a child was a show I could stay up and watch with my dad, who was my hero. He would tell us stories to help us understand what we were watching and hearing. A few years ago, my sister gave me the complete series and I found a way to reconnect with my dad who had recently passed away. It also proved that this series had some things that few television shows or movies have today-actors that have strength and depth, on and off-screen, quality in script and character development, and a sense of integrity and moral dilema/resolution that television in general has lost. I haven't watched TV in years, but I put in Combat and enjoy the full package that cast and crew provided over the years. It is no wonder it has lasted and has been recognized as the best war series ever made. I also say it's one of the best productions to ever come out of Hollywood...period! My favorite character is Kirby..after teaching for almost thirty years I have to say my favorite students were always the ones that were not perfect, a little quirky or sassy or ready to test the waters a bit, but always seemed to have what it took or were able to give what was needed to make the group stronger. Thanks to all who are still living from the cast and crew for having the talent and ability and character to make "Combat" what it is..truly great and one-of-a-kind. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Recently, my two older brothers and I got together and watched all the first season episodes. We made a marathon out of it and talked about when we were kids and how we had to watch "Combat" on the floor so we wouldn't destroy Mom's good furniture as we got into the action parts. One brother is a Marine and he gives us all the details on the gun types and the historical accuracy and battles, etc. He's a lot Dad in that respect. Mom watches it with me now at night sometimes. One of her favorite episodes, as well as mine, is "The Town That Went Away". I love Kirby's lines and the humor...you can't beat it. Before Dad passed away, he gave me a canteen a German prisoner gave him on board ship heading back from North Africa. It has a desert scene beautifully etched on it of a desert town with a soldier or arab "bedoin" riding on a camel with his rifle slung over his shoulder. Sometimes I think of what Dad would tell us about the war and what he did, what happened where he was. I recently remembered the canteen after watching the 4th Season episode "The Leader" where Kirby uses their canteens as a warning system. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Mainely because Vic Morrow is irreplacable, and Rick jason and the rset of the cast too. I just love all 5 seasons of it. I am a Veteran too , so that is another reason. Vic Morrow was underated in his career, so was Pierre Jalbert, and the rest of the cast. Would have loved to have met them all. | When did you first watch COMBAT?: When I was a little child in the lates 70s,this great serie was in the program of chanel 5 in Lima Peru. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Why? there are many reasons, I love the action in the serie, and the characters of every one, specially of Vic, as a child.. maybe I did not recognize all the values that the serie gave us, but when I was 14 the serie came again in TV and then I could enjoyed it better, I turned in a Fan of Vic, until nowadays, he is my Hero, I admired his performances not only in Combat Serie but also in other movies he participated. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I remember in the 80s, I used to come quickly to home after school to wath the serie, I can remember one episode when Vic and his squad met with other german squad, which had a German Sargent as smart as Vic, it was like a little war between two persons!! It was great!! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: Many years ago, when it was aired on TV here. I remember having to ask/beg my parents for permission to watch it. I'm now enjoying it once again thanks to Pay TV. Episodes of Combat are aired every weekend, on the foxtel classics channel and its so fantastic being able to watch the gorgeous Vic Morrow once again. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Why, Vic Morrow of course! xx He's like the energizer bunny LOL He just keeps going on and on and on You can shoot him, stab him, knock him unconcious, throw grenades at him, blind him with flying debris, deafen him, or inflict whatever else you can think up and like a good little soldier, he just pours some sulfa pdr on his wounds, dusts himself off, picks up his trusty Thompson and upwards and onwards he marches. What a guy? LOL |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Over all these years, the episode I most fondly recalled, was "the little carousel". It had quite an impact on me. I remember feeling absolute hatred towards the Germans because of the despicable act of planting a mine so near to where children play. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I was completely mortified when I heard of Vic Morrows tragic death back in 82, when they were filming The Twilight Zone. I just could not, nor did not want to believe what I was reading. What poor Vic and those two little girls had to endure was just too horrible to comprehend May they all rest in everlasting peace and lets hope and pray that such an horrific event never ever happens again. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: WWII always intrigued me and Combat was the only serious WWII show on TV. I was really drawn to this series by 3 things, first the characters. I loved Saunders, Kirby and Caje. Second, the stories and guest stars were great. And last, the WWII backdrop was so inviting, the German soilders, weapons, France and the fighting scenes. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: My father was in WW11 and told many stories while I was growing up. I love history. I love Combat!! |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: We did not own a TV when I was a child, but my dad would rent one on the nights that Bonanza and Combat! were on. I know almost every show by heart. I especially like the one that went back to the very beginning, on Omaha beach, showing how it all began. I also like Saunders and Hanley's soft sides. The only one that I can't remember that is really bothering me is one that I think was when they rescued a baby and I remember that they made a baby bottle and had to get milk from a cow. Maybe that was just a dream I had? Can anyone else remember such an episode? |

Today, I've seen the show again here in Brazil, by cable TV TCM. And I loved more than when a little boy in the sixties! Some episodes makes me cry! Thanks, TCM! Thanks, Jo! I always read your site, makes for fans like me. Forgive me, because I don't write in english very well. But, I loved what I understand! And I loved to see the photos and remember the best TV series of my life. Sergeant Saunders was the hero of my childhood. And I never forget him and their platoon, Hanley, Cage, Kirby, Doc, Little John... Thank you! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I think it was back in 1965 (when I was 5), on a very old Sylvania B/W TV set my dad bought almost it just arrived from the U.S. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I think it was a very nice TV show. By watching it, I became a WWII 'addict': had a lot of military toys, and when a teenager started to read lots of books and watching movies about WWII. The stories were dramatic and funny at the same time. I loved the idea of the scripts including the GI characters dealing with some French people, sometimes helping them to solve their own problems. The full cast of characters (Lt. Hanley, Sgt. Saunders, Kirby, Little John, Caje and Doc) became almost a 'imaginary family' to me. I really loved the performances of the actors, specially Saunders played by Vic Morrow. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: My elementary school friends (at the time 1966-1967) and I, had sometimes funny arguments to decide who would play each of the roles of the series characters. Obviously, we had problems to get someone to play the Krauts...!!!! |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I'm very happy to see that TCM-LA (Latin America) is airing again the series (Sat./Sun. at noon). However, as here in Peru it was always broadcasted already dubbed to Spanish, it's pretty sad to find that actually, in some chapters the original dubbing (I suppose made by Mexican actors for Latin America) has been re-dubbed to a 'modern' version. This reduces that special 'souvenir feeling' that anyone had when watching the episodes with the original dubbing. Anyway, I don't have lunch 'til I see in full every episode again! Thanks Vic Morrow, Rick Jason and all at COMBAT! cast, for making a great TV show!!!! I still like it very much!!!! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: It was back in 1967 when the series started screening in one of the two TV channels we had in Greece at the time-both of them state owned. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I think apart from the fact that the series was well made it focused on the human factor and on the different reactions of human characters under pressure. This, together with some excellent writing and directing, made the series an overnight success in Greece-as I suppose happened in most countries it was aired. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Being then at the age of 10 I remember how me and my friends looked forward to Monday evenings for the new episode and to Tuesdays when we all get back together again and talk about it!The memories of the actual show are so many that it wouldn't be fair to pick any of them."Combat" simply became a part of those years in our lives when the grass was greener and the trees were taller.. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I think it's only fair to mention a few other things that were really spot on with the show.First of all the name of the sertes itself:"Combat!"!Just one word, not many letters, very precise in its meaning, very promising to the viewer.Brilliant! Then it was the title sequence:Another hit!And the bayonet instead of the exclamation mark...Great stuff! And last but not least the music score! One of the most recognisable themes from the golden days of television, stays with you forever! It's sad that quite a few of the people we grew to admire in our early years-and later on to respect-left us earlier than they should making it impossible for us to live another "Combat" reunion. So I think it's only appropriate to end this with a glass of wine. Here's to friends present...and to friends passed... |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: My first memory of "Combat" was likely in 1963-64. I was just about 3-years old at the time. Watching with my father, like playing baseball, gave us a special experience to share. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: COMBAT, though it tells the story of war with all its gruesome and cruel reality, reminds me of the innocence of childhood growing up in a suburb of St. Louis in the 1960's at 70's. For many years, our local ABC affiliate aired reruns of COMBAT from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. When I watch now, it is with a critical eye for detail and a more mature realization of just how sanitized war was made to appear on the small screen. Still, COMBAT is symbolic of a time when children were able to watch television and learn lessons of pride, honor and redemption. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: My memories of this program change and grow all the time as I watch episodes on the "American Life" network or from my DVD collection. Watching now, I see flaws and a less-than-realistic view of war. It is strange to know I am now older than the actors were at the time this show was filmed. Without doubt, the names Saunders, Caje, Kirby, Little John, Doc and Lt. Hanley will always be a special part of my memories of childhood. Just as Tommy Guns, berets, B.A.R. and "White Rook" will remain a part of childhood games of fantasy. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: In 1963 when the show first appeared. The family was stationed in Camp Zama Army Base in Japan. It was funny listening to the characters speaking in Japanese as it was broadcast on a Japanese network. It was really popular with Japanese viewers than and even more so now. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: It gave a semblance of authenticity to the portrayal of American soldiers going through the the constant rigors of combat and trying to sustain their fears, frustrations, anger, anxieties and anything else to keep them from losing their sanity. The important aspect of the show was that it did not glorify war. In fact it taught valuable lessons in personal relationships and camaraderie between individual soldiers. It made me feel as if I were part of the squad and not someone just standing by the sidelines watching. Combat has and always will be my favorite tv show of all time. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I enjoyed most of the episodes but the two that stand out for me are "Hills Are For Heroes" and "The Little Carousel." It was Vic Morrow's best directing of an episode with outstanding acting performances from Rick Jason, Jack Hogan and Pierre Jalbert along with other supporting actors. If a movie is ever made of Combat this should be the episode considered. "The Little Carousel" was heart-warming and heart-breaking as the young French girl learning to be a nurse tries to break through the tough soldier veneer of Saunders and succeeding. It was one of Vic Morrow's best acting performances. I taped almost every episode except for the ones in color when it was being shown on the Goodlife Network. I ordered the episode guide when it first came out and I gave it to close friend as a gift afterwards. I just recently purchased the revised edition and I'm just as thrilled with it as I was with the first. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: My late father enjoyed the series. He served three wars in the U.S. Army. World War II in the Leyte Campaign. The Korean Conflict and three tours in Vietnam. He was wounded severely in WWII and two more times in the others. It definitely changed him. No one is ever the same in that kind of situation. I followed suit in the early seventies by serving in the Army with the 1st Infantry Division. I was stationed in southern Germany with a couple of combat units training out the field quite a bit. It was a unique experience to say the least. I want to thank Jo Davidsmeyer for this wonderful website in keeping the memories alive and well of that truly one-of-a-kind and unique tv series that we've all come to love and know as "COMBAT!" Lastly I want to say a heartfelt "thank you" to all those who served and sacrificed to maintain the freedoms we enjoy today and to all those courageous men and women currently serving everywhere around the world. I salute all of you. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Because it is still the best television series about the Second World War in Western Europe from the infantryman's point of view. Since I know the German language, having learned it and taught it at the Goethe-Institut Manila, I can vouch for its authenticity in this outstanding series. The variety of authentic infantry weapons, particularly for the German side, is unbeatable. The only German infantry weapon that I have not seen in any of the episodes is the StG 44, which is extremely rare and was used only near the end of the war. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I remember when the only WWII infantry weapon toy replica one could get in the Philippines was the Thompson M1928 sub-machine gun. I always longed for the availability of WWII German infantry weapons, but was only able to find toy replicas of the MP40, Luger P08, Walther P38, and Mauser C/12. Thanks, however, to AGM, there are now Airsoft MP40's, Mauser KAR 98K's, and even StG-44's! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: I have been watching since the very beginning. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: The stories are real, not like so many Hollywood series. My favorite characters are Caje, Little John and Sanders. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I just saw "No Trumpets" this past Friday. It was the best one. My new favorite. I see Caje in a very different light now. This story really touched my heart. Thank you Pierre for your excellant proformace. I know this will stay with me for a very long time. |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I am heart broken to learn that "Little John" passed away. I hope he knew how much the fans loved him. Also. for all who are interested, "Combat" airs twice on weekdays on " American Life Netwoork" channel 129 on Charter cable, and 4 times on Tuesday evenings. I hope Pierre will know how he has touched my heart. Thank you so much. |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: The 1st time I saw "Combat" was on Okinawa when it was first released for viewing to AFRTS there (1960-1964). It was without a doubt, the most-watched TV show in our Squadron - right along with "The Untouchables." |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I guess, like all of my fellow GI's, we enjoyed the action of military men doing their thing. We saw their anguish when "higher up's" gave real dumb orders and how far wrong the "Military Intellilgence" guys were in most cases; and how they ignored them to a point to get the job done. I was currently involved within the Vietnam "conflict" as they liked to call it so many of us experienced those same frustrations - same stuff, just in a different theatre of operations. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: You couldn't get a seat in our dayroom (where the TV was) unless you got there early and you had better keep quiet during the show or you may wind up on your butt outside - raining or not! It was almost always on a Thursday night at 2100 hours and all week, we all had a secret desire to be able to catch the "Sarge" reload his Thompson. The night of each show, you could always hear someone remark: "with the Sarge reload his weapon tonight?" Not once in all those years did any of us every notice him reloading which, to many of us, is what we had always wished for in a combat situation - a weapon that you never had to load or reload! |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: It was a great, great show and the series is still probably my favorite of all time - period! It had something, what I could never really put into words, that every GI - no matter what branch of service or war-zone assigned - could related too. It was thoroughly entertaining and we would anxiously await the next week. It was so popular that many of the men on the island (Okinawa) would wait until it was over that night before heading for the Ville'; and our late "Happy Hour" of VO & coke! |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: This was one of my Father's favorite shows and I know we watched it from the first show, but my memories start with season two. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: It was well written, well produced, well acted and well directed. Even forty years after it was cancelled by ABC, it still stands up. (it's better than just about anything the networks pass off as "entertainment" now a-days) And it was and is real. Not alot of cornball, cliche babble like most shows or movies about WW2. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Even my anti war, peace activist mother liked this show. In the late 60's when Combat! went into syndication, the local station in Wash. D.C. that showed the reruns, well, I wouldn't watch if Hanley was in the show and Saunders wasn't. What a waste. Especially concidering in the mid 70's I joined the Navy and spent the next 20+ plus years overseas or aboard ships and no Combat! to watch. At least now I get to see it almost every day on the American Life network. |

| Comments about the web site or other comments: 1965 or 1966, my father asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I said a rifle. He asked what kind, a Daisey Red Ryder? I said no, a Browning Automatic Rifle, like the one Kirby has on Combat! My Dad said it might be alittle too big for me. I didn't get the Red Ryder either. Mom got her two cents in and I swear she said "absolutely not, you'll put your eye out". Sorry Jack Hogan, I tried my best. |

| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: I remember one episode from a long time ago. It was when a german and American soldier were stuck somwhere either in a cave or somewhere else I don't remember where and the whole show was about them, and I think they left and did not kill each other. I haven't seen that show yet since I've been watching the reruns. |

| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: Its so funny cuz KIrby always gets hurt and Caje looks funny and Sgt. Saunders is the only one who knows anything about combat. Also Sgt. Saunders platoon always wins and none of the main characters ever die - wow! and Lt. Hanley is always sympathetic to people. Also some of the geust stars are really random and stupid and rude. But its a great show. I love it. I like the ones thaat are in color. |

| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: 1. When the bossy Lt was there cuz Lt hanley was injured and LittleJohn threw a gum wwrapper on the ground and he said to the Lt "sorry, i didnt think." and kirby twisted his ankle - of course - and they said "you shouldve asked the lt permission first". 2. In hear no evil Sgt. Saunders found the dog to guid him. 3. In "MOuntain Man" when there was a 5 min scene with caje skiing down a mountain and a german chasig after him and there was no point (and they passed some of the same places twice!) 4.The one where Sgt Saunders was disguised as a German and got injured and they gave him drugs and he was hallucinating about other times in war and then he got tangled in a net and they had to untangle him. And other funny stuff. 5.In one day in june all of the soliders were young and all looked funny. Also the grumpy guy fellover the boat. And so on.... |
| Comments about the web site or other comments: I LOVE COMBAT! Go Sgt Saunders! Kirby stop fallin! Caje is French! Braddock you better go on a diet! Lt. Hanley you're a hero! LittleJohn is not little! (and has a big mouth) Doc - you save peoples lives |

| When did you first watch COMBAT?: Combat was on Australian Television when i was a small child and I loved it when I saw it.Id cry if i missed it.My parents bought their first television in 1961. |
| Why do you enjoy COMBAT?: I loved Combat as a child because i could dress up and pretend i was the Sarge. My memories of childhood always include my tommy gun that i would usually break in my play and my parents had to glue togeather ready for the next day.My mum made all the charactors costumes for me including doc's medical kit tin helmet with the cross on it and even a german uniform. She even made a real wind up telephone kit that i could call back to base and order a tank attack.I lived breathed and slept combat!I watch it again on cable tv and it really is excellent television. |
| Share any COMBAT memories you might have.: Ad I said i lived the charactors of the show. If we had visitors i would dress up and knock at the door and crawl in wounded to the delight of all who saw my performance.I was prob a spoiled brat but my interest in world war 2 and history in general was sparked by combat. I look back all those years ago with wonder and delight and when i hear the themesong and see the bayonets I am taken back to my childhood on our farm in Australia. We used to look at the gumtrees on the set just like the ones we had on our farm. |

| Comments about the web site or other comments: I didnt have the internet or videos or cable television so to watch an episode was a big thing for us in the late 1960's most of the people around us didnt even have television. My 8 year old son watches combat with me and loves it just as much as me. Good luck to all and thank god for the internet. |
