Although born in London,I grew up in Cork and played for Douglas Hall about 1976 before doing the Inter Cert that year, (? under 14/15s). I played 12 games and got 5 goals. It was a mudbath most weeks espescially at home. Did they have cows on the pitch during the week, between games! It was great fun and I wished I had been able to play much more. There was a bloke called Wilkins in the team and a chap called O'Halloran. A Copper at Douglas Garda station helped train us. Great bloke, very droll. People were lovely and very friendly at the club. Where does the team play its home games now. I`d love to see a game when I go back to Ireland to visit. I live near London and have been a Chelsea Season Ticket holder for years but I pay the odd visit back to Cork. Good Luck to the club, Cheers Patrick Purcell |
