Nick was like a bright light in a room full of darkness, a breath of fresh spring air in a room of smog. His smile and laughter were infectious... To Brian we love you too!!!and to my neice Jodie you are a joy in my life, love you very much. I will be posting pics and totals from the golf outing soon. I am very excitied about it this year for my new friends The Doyles. We were brought together by a club we did not want to belong to but good thing have come from our loss. | Comments: | My father told me about your charity fundraiser after reading about it in the newspaper today (Easter Sunday). It struck home because early this morning we lost my sister, Tara Dirst, after she battled severe brain injury trauma caused by a car accident on March 2nd, 2007. She left behind a 11 month old daughter, Kiera, and a husband Kevin. We too, like you, learned more in the last month about traumatic brain injury than we ever, truthfully, wanted to know. Myself and my oldest son (11) will be signing up to run in your 5k charity run on the 29th. We will also do fundraising as well. I too hope that the money your organization is raising can help someone else in the future. |

| Comments: | In 2005 and 2006 the Nick Kot Charity donated grants to support my research in severe TBI. The funds supported three projects. One is a study examining the effectiveness of neural stimulation during coma recovery using transcranial magnetic stimulation. A second project examines the effectiveness of familiar sensory stimuation versus non-familiar sensory stimulation (familiar versus non-familiar voices for examples) during coma recovery. The third project is developing the capacity to measure brain functioning durin coma recovery at the behavioral and physiological levels.
In 2007 I plan to use Nick Kot grants to continue defraying expenses from these three projects, but I really hope to start collecting pilot data on a fourth project examining the safety and efficacy of an antibody that we think will remove physiological barriers to neural recovery after Severe TBI. To all who have been supportived of the Nick Kot charity: You do make an impact! I could not do this research without your support.
