Comments:Hello all, just started my search. I had myself & dad AncestryDNA tested and we got back results that now have me following the Minorcan trail. I already know that we are 8th generation Florida (so far) and I have a brick wall @ William B. Hill who list his father as also being born in Florida.
I may be following the wrong line but the DNA results must be followed. I hope to report back with MY Minorcan family heritage.

Comments:Hello to many Minorcan cousins. I'm of Masters, Pomar, monsonia, Usina et al descent. If you've not yet found it, there's a great family tree at www.minorcanfamily.com. It is searchable by last name, with many lines traced back to Menorca long before the ships embarked for New Smyrna. Also, note that many families, at some point prior to the Civil War, moved to Elkton, Palm Valley, Mayport and Jacksonville. Keep this in mind when searching census or grave records. Mine, for example, moved from St. Augustine to Elkton, or more specifically, a nearby place called Moccasin Branch. Many Pons, Pomars, Rogeros among others settled there. Went to St Ambrose church at Mocassin Branch recently. It was built with logs donated by Minorcan and other families in the area. Great feeling to sit in church pews no doubt previously occupied by my family from earlier times. Anyway hope some of this helps. Good luck!

My parents together compiled quite a bit of genealogy back in the 70's-80's going to every cemetery in Northeast Florida documenting dates from headstones. I am the keeper of the book and need to get this information input into my computer and updated. Big, big job. Anyway, I am also proud to be Minorcan, well, 1/2 Minorcan.

Hopefully, you will be able to share some of the pieces of the descendancy puzzle. I am the great, great granddaughter of Mary J. Andreu, daughter of Tomas Baldomero Andreu and Dionisia Mestre. I live in Arizona and am far from my Florida and Minorcan roots, I have a couple of questions:
1. To expand my research where is the best depository of Minorcan history available in Florida and Menorca?
2. Is the Minorcan get together in St. Augustine an annual event and, if so, can I get on a mailing list for future events.

Comments:Greetings,

I'm looking for some information about traditional Menorcan boats called llaüts. My husband and I aren't Menorcan (he's Spanish and I'm American) but we live here in Menorca and he's a member of Els Amics de la Mar, a sailing club interested in traditional boats and other nautical things. The club has asked me to look into the history of the Menorcans that went to Florida in order to find out if they ever built any llaüts in Florida. To get an idea of the style of boat, here's the website of a company here that makes these boats.

http://www.menorquin.com/en/boat-range/menorquin-llauts

Many llaüts are also fitted with lateen sails, as in this photo (http://www.immateria.org/wp-content/gallery/la-balear/serra4.jpg).

Anyway, if anyone has information about this style of boat being built in Florida or could point me in the direction of a person, association, or whatever that could provide more info, I would greatly appreciate it. And if I can help anyone looking into Menorca, don't hesitate to let me know.

Thanks!

Comments:My Minorcan heritage comes from my grandfather Aloysius Gonzales Capallia (originally Capella) My great grandparents were Liberino Capella and Maria Noda.

Grandpa Capallia had two sons by his first marriage, Joe and Marion (there may have been another.) I don't know who his first wife was, but his second wife was Jane Dees. He had four daughters by his second wife, including my mother, Annabelle (Belle)

Grandpa Capallia worked for the city of St Augustine and retired there. He was street sweeper with the Sanitation Dept, and could be seen for many years pushing his cart around the streets and sweeping up trash and horse droppings.

I would love to see other Minorcan family names that were related to the Capellas (Capallias) and Nodas. I haven't yet had much time to do any deep genealogical research.

Leonardi, Llambias, Mestre-masters, and all the way down through the alphabet to XIMENEZ. According to what I am finding, our lineage stems from the Canova family of St. Augustine.
I am not very good at this but I LOVE history and finding that my heritage is so deeply rooted in Florida has made me so proud of my heritage.

I saw some of you talking about a Canova reunion. Can you please, please, please send me information?

Thank you so much,

glad to be one of you.

Comments:I am just starting the journey to locate my ancestors. Over the generations, almost all information was lost for whatever reason. Sadly, I have very little to start with but am excited to see where this takes me.

My great-grandparents were: Anthony Andrew Pacetti of Saint Augustine (born in 1882) and Mary V. Pacetti (maiden name was Capallia) she was born 3/24/1888 and died 5/1/1971

The name Hattie Capallia is listed in some information I found of my great-grandmothers. I am unsure if she was family or not.

My grandparents were/are: William Bartola Pacetti (born 10/9/1911 on Osceola Street in Saint Augustine) he married Evelyn Curtis Pacetti (from Maine)in the Basilica Rectory on 11/3/1939

My great aunt was: Irene Pacetti Zimmerman (born 11/19/1910 in Saint Augustine)

My family and I have recently moved to St. Augustine and it feels like coming home to me. It is my hope to locate our family information in order to pass it onto my child and my neices/nephews. Any information you may have to help me would be greatly appreciated.

It has been a while since I posted an entry in here, so figured I would update it. My grandfather was Willis Luke Capo, from the direct Capo lineage of Juan Capo, settling here from Ciudadela, Menorca. Through my grandmother's research, with Eleanor Barnes, we have found many different Menorcan lineages connected, like Pons (Ponce), Segui, Masters (Mestre), Sintas, Falani, and lots more. The story of the Menorcan settlers still captivates me to this day, and would make an excellent movie showing strength, courage, and the ability to beat the odds.

I am 8th generation Menorcan and direct descendant of Juan Domingo Costa (Acosta) and Maria Delores Parta y Ambrose. Juan Domingo and Maria were living in Corsica when recruited by Dr Turnbull. They married in Smyrna (Greece/Turkey) where Maria was born. Very interested in learning about the Menorcan people as a group, their culture and traditions and maybe finding a distant cousin or 3. I just recently discovered this family history which is unbelievable considering I was born and lived in Jacksonville, FL until I was 35 years old and that there is a bridge there with my name on it. None of these stories were ever told in our family and in fact, when I told my father what I had found he was surprised. It seems Arcadio Acosta was born in St Augustine and later moved to Nassau County which is where the next 4 generations of Acostas were born until my father and I were born in Jacksonville. Anyone with any info on the family can contact me at cmas05@yahoo.com. Thanks!

land. Goldie managed to wade ashore. He walked through the night and stumbled into the village of Mayport Mills, half-dead from a week of no food or water. He was immediately helped by Andrew B. Floyd, in whose house he recuperated. I am trying to gather details about this final drama in the shipwreck story. I am looking for a photograph of A B Floyd, and some biographical information on him. He was prominent in public life in and around Mayport in the l860s and l870s. Can you ask your membership if anyone has information on him, and most hopefully, a photograph?

Of the the two young women.....their bodies were found a day or two later. Annie was buried in the high dunes at about where Ponte Vedra Beach is located. Rosa's body was severely mauled by sharks. Her remains were brought to the Catholic cemetery at Mayport and buried in a section of the cemetery which the Union military forces had taken over when they occupied the Mayport peninsula in l862. Her grave is unmarked, and lies under 3 or 4 feet of fill and paving.

I look forward to any information you can provide

Regards

My great Aunt was Eleanor Philips Barnes who documented a good portion of Minorcan history in 1949 and presented it to the St Augustine historical Society. Comments:hi all ive always known i was related to most everyone here but my question is are the brazeales related to the brazeales in south carolina from the long canes creek area? i lost the line both ways so i have never found a relationship there but i have the feeling that we are related to them i just need the link if anyone knows. the brazeales in south carolina original name was o brazeale as in being irish but coming from france to america, i was just curious because thia is such a history rich family and there was so much in the 1600-1800 era that they were involved in , i just found them very interesting they were in the area at the time of the cherokee idian massacre at long canes creek, the indians massacred all of the settlers there, it is a very horrible story, but they continued on and settle permanently there owning quite alot of land and indentured servants. if anyone knows abotu a link to this group of brazeales please contact me .

This short ride reminds me of just how blessed we are, knowing each hundreds even thousands will come to this City that we hold in Trust for the rest of the World to come and enjoy--that we must protect it for our future generations.

Comments:Hi, it’s nice to see so many Minorcans! I’m a Minorcan, born in an elevator between the first and second floor of the East Coast Hospital (so they say) in St. Augustine. My family descends from the Mastre strand, later to be Masters. My mothers name is Lillian (Deanie) Ardene Masters Bowen, Daughter of Leonard Stanislaw Masters and Lillie Ethel Lee Masters. Leonard Stanislaw Masters was also known as Andrew Leonard Masters, as this name was given to him at his baptism. (One of his sponsors name is Edward J. Andrew, hence the first name change to Andrew) From information found on Ansestory.com, Leonard Stanislaw Masters parent’s names are Gasper Celestine Masters and Mary H. Deuschle Masters. Gasper Celestine Masters parent’s names are Gasper Antonio Masters and Angelina Maria Capella Masters. And the list goes back to the 1500’s where the Mastre’s lived in Minorca, Baleares Province, Spain. Most of my family still lives in St. Augustine, where we were all born. I love my family heritage and thanks for this site.
