| Comments: | Hi I have a page here on this Site relative to Minorcan ancestry. I want to share this with everyone who might be interested in Florida's history...
Juan Ponce de Leon His New and Revised Genealogy the Book Posted on Aug 31st, 2009 by ayesart The reason for my abscence from these pages has not arisen from creating a plastic work of art or seeking out to discover beautiful nature subjects for my photography but from a different kind of artistic realization. I have been very busy working upon an important new project. A book! Juan Ponce de Leon His New and Revised Genealogy. On 08 28 2009 I uploaded a copy to the Library of Congress Copy Right Office to officially get the book registered. The work is the result of over six years of research within the Ministry of Culture Spain's Archives to seek out documents and reference documents that tell of his ancestry and who were his real descendants. The book, Juan Ponce de Leon His New and Revised Genealogy is an important work that contains history, pure genealogy and it also will serve as an important tool for those people who would like to begin pursuing their own genealogy as well as an important tool for those genealogists and historians who are experienced. The book contains digital copies of original documents that are relative to the ancestors and descendnats of Juan Ponce de Leon as well as his direct family members that the Spanish Ministry of Culture has graciously allowed me to publish as well as important reference documentation that will lead the researcher to other importrant historical documents. The work also has been created to correct the many errors that have been made by other researchers regarding the genealogy of Juan Ponce de Leon. It strips away the mythos so that the total man and his history are revealed within a clearer and more refined light. The descendants of Juan Ponce de Leon immigrated from Spain to Mexico, Honduras, Peru, Cuba, Isla Espanola, Equador, La Florida and Columbia et al... It was Juan Ponce de Leon who discovered America not Columbus. Columbus was looking for a trade route to Asia when he accidentally found the islands of the Caribbean. He was off course by over sixty miles away from La Florida. Juan Ponce claimed la Florida on behalf of Spain, not Columbus. The King of Spain, Ferdinand didn't want Diego Columbo to extend his power beyond the Caribbean Islands, he sent Juan Ponce de Leon on that eventful voyage of discovery instead. La Florida was called Bimini which was derived from an ancient Taino word meaning Mother of the Waters. La Florida was named Pascua Florida by Juan Ponce so people would remember his discovery that fell on a very important religous holiday....Easter. El Dia de Pascua. The work is also illustrated with some very old and anceint images of documents that in some cases are over 400 years old. They have been transcribed into modern day Spanish and English. The book will be availiable at the price of 80.00 USD and will be published on CD and PDF format. Please direct inquiries to this Web Site. You won't find the book in stores, since I am it's sole distributer. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: John J. | Comments: | I was at the Florida Folk Festival May 23-26 and ran into Mr. Pacitte. He was sitting under a tree knitting another cast net and sharing stories about Minorcans, Florida before Disney and life in general.
I was telling him a story that I had heard, that if a Minorcan crooked his thumb at a gopher it would come to him. He had never heard that story which got me to thinking about some of the other old wife's tales I had heard,i.e. Minorcan's have a knot on the back of there head and have a tendency to be bowlegged. I wonder how many of these stories are true and if there are any more floating around out there. |

The Leonardy family has been traced back to 1490 when Bartholew (sic) Leoanrdiof Modena, Italy was sent by his government to the court of Federick III with a petition for confirmation of Lionel D'Este's succession to the Modena court. Federick conferred Knighthood upon Leonardi. The history of Leonardi contains a brilliant list of achievements by the men and women of this illustrious line. |

| Comments: | Hello. I just wanted to say that this is a great site. I haven't been researching very long but have found a couple of differences in middle names. My Grandfather on my father's side was Herbert Andrew. I have found his middle name on some sites as "Roman", but I have his S.S. card and on there it is Joseph. All the dates match up so I believe they are one and the same person (birth, death, marriage). Also, he and my Grandmother, Lottie, only had 4 children(all deceased), not 5. Somehow between my Grandpa and my Dad the last name went from Andrew to Andreu. If anyone has any explainations or has any more info please contact me at the above email with Andreu in the subject line. Thanks. |

Saludos, Rafael Aedo Pons |

I discovered my cousin Latrell Mickler (Pappy) in Florida by accident. Her grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. There is a monument that commemorates the Papy's in St. Augustine, Florida. They were one of the largest group of immigrants to arrive in New Smyrna, Florida, and to the new world. St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States. | Comments: | How interesting to read all your comments! I wish my path to my ancestors was as clear as the ones many of you have. We have all of our Scottish lines back hundreds of years but have drawn a blank on this one. My beloved grandfather was named Grover Leroy (Roy) McClellan and was born in Daytona Beach on June 19, 1886 to Susan (Susie) Henrietta Bunch McClellan and Howard Tison McClellan. They later moved to Jacksonville where Susie was struck and killed by lightening at age 18. My grandfather, obviously, was a a baby so had no memory of his mother, whom he was said to favor greatly. All his life he searched for her family, one side was said to be Minorcan. His father believed in moving on and not looking back so, unfortunately, all Grandpa had heard of his mother's side was that one line, probably on his mother's mother's side, were Minorcan. His mother was said to have been very beautiful with dark eyes and hair. The rest of the family is Scottish, fair and blue eyed. Grandpa was dark and handsome like his mother's side. At one point, Grandpa found a Minorcan woman who was said to have known his mother's family. She did not speak English so Grandpa found someone who spoke Spanish to go with him to visit her. But she didn't speak Spanish either. My bet is that she spoke Catalan. Grandpa went to his grave still trying to find his mother's lineage. Is anyone familiar with Bunch as a possible line to Minorcan families? It is English but if anyone has seen a link between the Bunch name and the Minorcan lineage, I would ceratainly appreciate some help! I would love to know that we indeed are partly Minorcan! It is a fascinating history and I would love to visit Minorca one day. It would be all the more exciting if I could claim Minorcan ancestry as my Grandfather so wanted to do! |

| Comments: | I am new to this site. My story is a bit different. I am a firts generation Menorcan. My entire family still lives in the towns of Ferreries and Ciutadella and I go there every year on vacation. Not only is a great place to visit and enjoy it's beautiful white sand-blue water beaches, the local fiestas (24th of June:Sant Joan)it's among the top fiestas in the Nation. But the local people is what makes this island one of a kind. The traditions, culture and history is exciting and colorful. The food, fifestyle, and easy going temperament of island living is the best.
My own ancestry goes back to the mid 1500's. I know the Truyol's, Pons, Molls, Sintes, Caules, Alles, and many other last names I read on this web site are familiar to me even now. So, if ever any of you want to go to Menorca, do so in late Spring, Summer or early fall. The best time is of course summer. If you go during Sant Joan fiestas (23-24th June)you may see me there;but better make arangments early as is a very popular fiesta and hotel rooms get boocked one year ahed. |

| Comments: | Like a number of people here I'm a decendant of Don Francisco Pellicer. I also have ties to Dupont and Blackwelder sir names.
I was able to trace my ancestory back to Serafin Pellicer who was born about 1551 in Alayor, Baleares, Spain. Serafin married Margarita Pons Y Vivia. They had a son named Serafan Pellicer who was born in 1582 in Alayor, Minorca, Spain. Serafan married Abrines Juana Alberti on 31 Jan 1605/1606 in Alayor, Isle of Minorca, Spain. Serafan's son, Juan Pellicer, was born in 1611 in Alayor, Isle of Minorca. Juan married Juana Bagurysintes on 27 Apr 1641. Their son's name was Antonio Pellicer. Antonio was born in 1653 in Ferrerias. He married Margarita Huget Pons on 16 Feb 1674/1675 in Alayor. They also had a son named Antonio Pellicer, who was was born in 1686 in Alayor, Isle of Minorca. Antonio married Juana Sintes Y Camps on 10 Jul 1746 in Alayor, Minorca, Baleares, Spain. Their son, Don Francisco Pellicer was was born in 1747 in Leon, Minorca. He died in 1826 in New Smyrna, FL. He married Margarita Femanias about 1773 in New Smyrna. My Great Grandmother was Georgia Pellicer who married/Divorced Jessie Oliver Blackwelder. Georgia Pellicer's father was Pedro Francisco Josef Pellicer. Pedro's father was Juan Antonio Eugenio Pellicer, who was the son of Don Francisco. | Comments: | My sister is Cynthia Louise Cubbedge Trent. Her paternal grandmother was Louise Cubbedge whom she was named after. She was the only daughter (only child) born to Hermann Billy Cubbedge and Lora Jean Mathisen. They divorced and Lora married Emory Trent and had two more children, Cody and Donna.
Billy married Shirley and had five sons, Billy, Barry, Brad, Bart and Britt. When Britt was just a toddler (1968) his father was lost at sea. Billy Barry Brad Bart and Britt and Cindi (my sister) lost their dad that day. So Shirley raised five boys on her own and Cindi was adopted by my father Emory Trent. I remember the day she got the news of her father. I was ten years old. I remember going to Lake Jackson, TX where they lived but the only boy I remember was Britt. He was just a baby, barely walking with lots of dark curly hair, so beautiful. I fell in love with him and my heart was broken for him that he would never know his father. I have always shared a kindred spirit with that family and my sister and I live near each other in South Texas and talk often. She has recently talked to Shirley, her stepmom, about attending a family reunion in St. Augustine, FL where she lives with Barry, Britt and Britt, Jr. I hope she gets to go. It's been a very long time since she has seen any of her family from that side. As for the Minorcan affiliation, I only know this from reading Brad's obituary. He died in 2001 in a tragic circumstance. I believe he suffered greatly from the loss of his father and grandfather (Webby). I believe all the boys and my sister suffered his loss greatly.I know that my sister adored him. Herman Billy Cubbedge's name is engraved in the Seaman's Memorial Tower at Con Brown Harbor in Aransas Pass, TX. It is a tribute to men ( I don't think there are any women on it) who were lost at sea. I recently went down and took some pictures of it. The only thing is they spelled Cubbedge wrong. They spelled it Cubbage. My sister works for the Chamber of Commerce in Aransas Pass, TX. If anyone out there has a connection to her, you should give her a call. Just dial information and ask for AransasPass, TX Chamber of Commerce. She is now Cindi Weable. Sincerely, Donna |

| Comments: | I read in the Daytona News Journal that there will be an exabition of traditional Menorcan hat and mat weaving in Palm Coast next Saturday, at the Florida Agriculture Musaum,1850 Princess Place Road. I had not realized that the Menorcans wove mats or hats for that matter. I had read somewhere that the biggest export was straw sandles but I thought it might be interesting to go up there.
I would like to know if any of you remeber either your parents or grandparents using rignum, I think this is how it is spelled but I'm not sure. My grandmother Francis Arnau Drew used it in gopher stew and other foods. It's English name is horsemint, which is not nearly as interesting as rignum, and smells like sage. Granny always had some drying in the kitchen. It grows wild and is a green plant with a white to light purple bud. |

| Comments: | I LOVE my Minorcan ancestry! I knew I was born in St. Augustine and my grandfather's family were long time Floridians, but I wasn't very excited until I learned his mother was Mabel Masters. Mabel was the daughter of William Masters & Helena E. Pacetti, William was the son of Bonaventura Masters & Eliza Dryden and Bonaventura was the son of Pedro Antonio Masters & Francesca Ortegas. I just went to see Father Camps statue in St. Augustine a few days ago and it was FABULOUS! Unfortunetly it was a Sunday, so some of the tours were closed and I didn't have time to go to the New Smyrna museum, but that is on my to do list for my next trip to FL. I am VERY interested in pictures of my ancestors and would love to talk to other "Masters" especially those realated to Mabel. I would also love suggestions on places to visit in FL to get more info on the Minorcans. Thanks so much! |

| Comments: | I grew up in St. Augustine very entrenched in the Menorcan culture which my family treasured. My grandmother lived on King street withte Solano house on one side and the Andreu house on the other. Ancestors of those other two families came over from Menorca with my ggggg grandfather, Francisco Pellicer, who was from Alayor, Menorca. He left there at 18, was a skilled carpenter and later one of the leaders of the Menorcan colony. He played a major role with two others in the revolt that brought the colonists from New Smyrna to St. Augustine. We keep the traditions and cook the ethnic foods that have been passed down. It's Easter now so time for the making of the traditional Menorcan Fromajadis, a food I have had every Easter of my life using the recipe brought and preserved by generations of Pellicers and the other Menorcans. I have been to Menorca and have met many people there with the original family names of the "La Floridas" as they called thoed who left on the boats for the new world. Alayor is a beautiful city of white squarish buildings snuggled together on a low hill, crowned with a towering village church. Walking through the graveyards one is confronted with all the familar names we know so well from St Augustine. My father was Andrew Joseph Pellicer IV and there are now two more in the line. His mother was Josephine Lopez Pellicer. We are cousins of the Rogeros, Solanos, Manucys, Ponces, and so many others whose ancestors also came from Menorca. |

| Comments: | What a cool place to meet family. My family is directly descended from Bartomole Llofriu and Antonio Mestre. Both of whom were born in Menorca. The Llofriu family originated in a town call Llofriu on the Costa Brava in Cataluna Spain. I am not sure yet why they migrated to Alayor but that is apparently where Bartolome was born to Constantino Llufriu and Ursula Alberti.
Bartolome has several children (8) with Antonia Mestre. Their names were Constantine E (b. 1780), Bartolome F or E (b. 1783), Ursula VA (probably the A is for Antonia or Agueda*) (b. 1784), Constantino A J (b. 1787), Juan Pedro Andonio (b. 1790), Bartolome Antonio Joseph (b. 1794) and Antonia Agueda Margarita (b. 1797). Many of the girls were given the Agueda, which translate to Agatha because she was a patron saint of the Minorcans. Some of you may find that if you substitute Mestre for Llufriu, you have one of your anscesters. The Llofrius (which eventually became "Lufriu" in some places and stayed true in others, live in MD, FL, TX and some in Cuba (I think). There is a very good book called "Mullet on the Beach" which gives a rich (if somewhat statistical) history of how and why the Minorcans came to Florida and what they faced once they got here. Also scan the Florida Archives for Spanish land grants. The original land grants to the Mestre families (Bartolome and Pedro) are in there. Some of it is in Spanish but it contains information about their lives too. For example, Bartolo left one family to start another and was in some trouble for providing no means for his first family. His request for his land grant states that he was trying to secure means (through farming) to provide for his children (all of them). Feel free to email me, I am working on this research now and have found some interesting stuff. |

Their first child was born in St. Augustine, then they bought land in Fernandina. My direct ancestor was born there: Thomas 1822. | Comments: | Forgive the second post but I thought that I should give you some background on my family. I am just starting my research based on some copies of letters and records that I received from my father ( Francis M. Arnau, III). I have found wonderful sources through the Minorcan sites. My research indicates that my g-g-g-g-grandfather was Francisco Arnau who married Martina Villalonga. Francisco Arnau was the son of Francisco Arnau and Clara Pretos. Some other names that I have traced to my line are Hernandez and Planells. I am interested to talk to anyone of the same line and swap info and stories. |

| Comments: | Hello again,
Forgive another post, but I just can't tell you how wonderful it feels to find this site. I feel like I'm surrounded by family I didn't know I had. Names of my ancestors include Mestre, Andreu, Rogero, Alles, Pons, Caules, Quintana, Cardona and many others -- including back to Martin de Mestre born in Minorca about 1559, Jaime Andreu Sr born in Minorca about 1540, Gaspar Caules born on the island about 1580 and Pedro Rotger (now Rogero) born in Minorca about 1605. I've just recently discovered this side of my family's genealogy, and feel excited about sharing my connection to the Rogero and other Minorcan Families. Thanks again for all the incredible information on this site. |

| Comments: | Hello,
I'm also a direct descendant of the Minorcans who came to Florida. Catalina Francisca Gregoria Mestre (later Maestre and Masters, b. 1792) is my g-g-g-g-g-grandmother. I've noted that your genealogy of her ends without this interesting infomation. She also married William Louis Bernard Hart (b. 1792) on 14 August 1810 in St. Augustine, Florida and had 4 children including my g-g-g-g-grandfather William Bartola Hart born 1811. Other children are Betty born 1813, Daniel Christian born 1815 and Eli born 1817. Catalina's brother-in-law (William's Louis Bernard Hart's brother) was Isaiah David Hart (b. 1845). He was a founding father of Jacksonville, FL and there is a major bridge spanning the St. Johns River named after him -- the "Isaiah D. Hart Bridge". Several streets in downtown Jacksonville are named for relatives of Isaiah. Isaiah D. Hart married Nancy Nelson and had 6 children including Ossian Bingley Hart who was the 10th Governor of Florida in 1873. I hope you enjoy this added piece of genealogy. Jan Cone |

| Comments: | I am the great-great granddaughter of Mayor Paul Arnau. I
have been working off and on on the Arnau genealogy for years. This is a great website. I have pictures of the Mayor and his wife Romalda and Mary Carmen Josephine Arnau and of the house they lived in on St George St. I am going to try to add them to this website photo album. Marguerite M. Mathews had put her genealogy of the Arnau-Arnow family on RootsWeb. It is downloadable and printable (103) pages. The website is www.camdencounty.org-ebooks-arnau-arnow.pdf. Also there is a book written by Eugenia Price "Maria" about St. Augustine and Maria who lived in the Oldest House that is the musuem in St. Aug. Debi Daniel Birmingham, Alabama |

Our family's first native born Minorcan ancestor was Josefa Femanias, b. 1777 at Turnbull Colony. She married my gggg grandfather Cristobal Bravo on 30 Nov 1801 in St. Augustine. He was an officer in the spanish army at the Castillo de San Marcos. If you are interested in sharing infomation about these families, please contact me. I have quite a bit of information I have collected over the years. |

| Comments: | Hi:
My name is John J. Browne Ayes. I am a descendant of Juan Luis Alles, who was possibly born in Menorca, Baleares, Canary, Islands. My family story is a strange one....since the name Alles shows up in Puerto Rico in its scattered Barrios. I have been researching the Ayes surname since I was 15 years of age. Back then it was harder to get genealogical information than it is now. I have two bloodlines in my family tree that hail from the Canary Islands, the De Jesus, Silva and the Alles. The first Alles to immigrate to Puerto Rico was my G, G, G, Grand father, Juan Luis Alles. He settled in Salinas, Puerto Rico, which is south west. Family verbal history says he was a merchant mariner. Family says he was tall, long white hair and beard. He raised hell with the Puerto Ricans since they were shorter than he. It was also said that he could break a palm wood table at the cantinas with his bare fist. Somewhere along Juan Luis Alles life the spelling of his surname changed from Alles to Ayes with an accent over the "e". It was a nightmare sorting it all out and I even thought that the Ayes were part of the Ayestarran clan. But they weren't. They were of the Alles bloodline. My cousin, Carlos Ayes Suarez, an archeologist in Puerto Rico alerted me to the change in spelling of our surname. There was another Alles that immigrated to Puerto Rico, Pedro Alles. It seems that someone changed the spelling to Ales in the records. It stuck because he founded the Ales clan who bear that surname in Puerto Rico to this day. I didn't know I was of the Menorcan heritage till quite recently.... My grandfather, Feliciano Ayes Ortiz and all the Ayes Ortiz de Jesus never looked Puerto Rican at all....They looked very different from what a Puerto Rican looks like. They were all of average height, light skinned and very good looking folk. So, here I am, seeking out my roots after finding out I am of the Menorcan bloodlines. I am attaching my family tree herein so you can have a look and discover that there are Menorcans living in Puerto Rico who don't even know it yet. I live in Kissimmee, Florida with my beautiful Wife, Carmen. Drop me an E mail or drop me a line or two via snail mails... John Browne Ayes 5323 Jade Street Kissimmee, FL 34746 321 946-7101 Cell 407 397-2251 We'll be up in Daytona Beach in Early June vacationing....by the sea.. I am proud to be a part of such a rich culture! I was born in St. Augustine Floria in 1956, and graduated from St. Augustine High School in 1974. I had been told of our Minorcan heritage as a child and enjoyed the many delicious foods from that tradition. My continuing interest in the Minorcan (Pacetti) ancestry was re-ignited by two of my children who have spent many hours reseraching Minorcan descendents for historical accuracies of our families. One child wrote his college thesis on the Minorcan influnece in St. Augustine, Florida which was just published. My youngest son is an avid North Florida lover, has researched the Minorcan geneaology, specifically focusing on the Pacetti family and their involvement in the civil war. He is learning the craft of making cast nets from a cousin, Stuart Pacetti; cooking all of the Minorcan dishes, especially datil pepper sauce and pileau (perlow), taught to us by my mother. He grows datil pepper plants from seeds, passed down from his grandmother which we enjoy in many of the family recipes. Our documented geneaology is as follows: My mother, Leona Pacetti Humphries McQuaig My grsndfather, Harry George Pacetti, Sr.(married to Dorothy Smith )son of, John Stephen Pacetti, (married Hester Taylor) son of Domingo Pedro (Simon) Pacetti,(married to Antonia Escolastica Hernandez), son of Andres Pacetti,II(married Barbara Triay), son of Andres Pacetti, (married to Maria Castell), son of Tomas Pacetti and Clara Maria de Changarote, who arrived in New Smnyrna as indentured servants. Along with many other families, he left New Smyrna for St. Augustine arriving in 1777. I beleive it is imperative that families keep traditions of their ancestry to pass along to future genertions. There is such richness found nowhere else! Thank you for the opportunity to share. Debra Duran |

It was a pleasure meeting some of you. We loved the Menorcan clam chowder, the pilau and all the food and festivities that you had to celebrate your heritage. I was blessed to have met you all. I specially would like to thank Carol Lopez-Bradshaw for her lovely card. I appreciate that very much. When I go back to Menorca as I usually do (my whole family is there) I will speak highly of all of you and of how proud you are of your heritage. Looking forward to come over again next year. Thanks again. Sincerely, Esperanza Tobar née Sans Capó |

| Comments: | I am of South American descent. I am currently trying to get my family's geneology. My Father deceased in 1980 in California was Born in Buenos Aires in 1927 his name Oscar Bernardo Pomar and his Father's Name was Bernardo Pomar. My grandmother's name was Adalaida Parterriux. The only information I currently have is that my grandfather was born in Mallorca. Although most Pomars are Christians it is belived that they were at one point Jews. My father'sfamily came from a long line of Jewelry artisans typical of Jews. I have tried the Mormon geneology with no success. I also visited St. Augustine and had the pleasure of meeting a former Mayor of the city whose aunt was a Pomar. If anyone can give me additional information on how to do the lineage trace better I would love to hear from you.

| Comments: | looking for sancho (or Olives) family from ciutadella, menorca. my first ancestor was Miguel olives. eventually, his great grandson, Miguel Olives assumed the name of his grandmother, Margarita Sancho (presumably for business purposes) and operated a transportation company. It was discovered that in the middle 1700s he was sued for some losses and at the civil trial he was referfred to as Sancho, Sanxo and Olives (for the 1st time). I found all of his descendants and am trying to locate the original Sancho (Olives). I have two 4th and 5th cousins that live on Menorca and 1 lives in Palma, Mallorac. But I am since looking.
It was suggested that I contact this website and see what was available. I find nothing on Olives or Sancho. Any suggestions? Thanks! Joe Villarreal Jr |

| Comments: | Cool Site. I am descended from Gabriel Ponseti and Johana Gomila, who immigrated to New Orleans c1855. Johana is attributed to Mahon, Menorca; I have no info on Gabriel's place of origin, thought the name continues to also show up in Menorca, as well as other areas of Catalunya. There are very, very few Ponsetis in the US, outside NOLA. Only a few of the Ponsetis outside NOLA cannot be connected to my family, based on what lineage I've seen.
Here and elsewhere, I've seen numerous references to Pons and Ponce, as well as Pacetti. There may be a connection between these and Ponseti. Also, I've seen a number of New Orleans connections, generally referring to Pons. There were always a few Pons in the phone book, right before Ponseti, and I remember wondering whether there was a connection. Can anybody here shed some light on this? Thanks Jaime |

| Comments: | H.M. Loyalist Provincial Minorcan Militia, St. Augustine, Florida, in the Rebellion (Revolution): My late grandfather, Edward Yonge Wootten of Wilmington, N.C., descended Loyalist Capt. Philip Yonge, H.M. Surveyor-General of Georgia, who's Loyalist estates were sequested and Philip and his parents, the Loyalist Hon. Henry and Elizabeth Bellinger Yonge, Sr., were banished to St. Augustine, Florida. Henry Sr. called his first wife, Mrs. Christiana Bulloch Yonge a "rebel", she being the sister of Georgia Patriot Gov. Archie Bulloch. Christiana got Henry's Loyalist sequested estates. Henry Sr's other son, Loyalist Maj. Henry Yonge, Jr., was H.M. Attorney-General of British East Florida, and as such; freed the enslaved New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Minorcans; and at St. Augustine, Florida, commanded a company of H.M. Loyalist provincial Minorcan troops in the Rebellion. The "company" seems more like a squad to me? Did their uniforms look "Minorcan" -- I doubt it? Were they issued British provincial troop uniforms? Henry Jr's plantation is now Ormond, Florida; it's Public Library on Yonge Street. Jim Miller, Southport, North Carolina. |

| Comments: | After reading your geneological account of the Leonardi line of Italy, it would seem that we are distantly related. My dear Aunt Kate began researching our family "tree" at the age of 13, and finally ended it in her 80's. As she writes, "From records in the Archives of the Geneological Institutes of Rome and Florence, Italy, we learn that the Leonardi family goes back to 1450, while that of the Bonellis' goes even further back...Now that we have dated our ancestry authentically to Bartholomew Leonardi of Modena, Italy, and Joseph Bonelli of the houses of Bonelli of Rome and Florence, let us come to more modern times...
She goes on to recount our family line's (the Neeld family) start in America in the Turnbull Colony. |
