| Comments: | Just checking in, as I do periodically......and sad to read about the passing of Roy Redpath. Roy was in my class when we were in Primary School in Drogheda.......and later married a girl I was in boarding school with. In February this year I was at the launch of a book about the history of the school and several of the photos in it include Roy, Jonathan and myself......and another of Jon's friends Edwin Dukes, who now lives in Canada. |

| Comments: | Hi
It looks like I've got the rare copy of the 'Portuguese' version of Jonathan Kelly's 'Twice Around the Houses'. Unfortunately it's a bit scratched (not down to me, though think they're mainly surface scratches. Just wondered what the value is? Not sure I'd want to sell though as it's kind of got a lot of sentimental value, but maybe it's possible to 'repair'? Just been successful in ordering a DVD from Amazon after several attempts at searching for a replacement. Great to find a website dedicated to Jonathan Kelly. I loved the album at the time and so pleased to have found the DVD, though it won't have the same 'feel' to it, or sentimental value. |

Haven't posted for a while. Hope you are both keeping well. From The Liberty Hall Nights in Dublin, in the late 60's (what a trance I used to be in listening to Jon) - I remember a friend of his called Roy Redpath...i'm sure he came from Drogheda too. If I can recall he was a photographer. I know Gerald you were looking for old footage. Maybe Jon if you remember Roy he may have taken some photos....hear's hoping. But tracking Roy down may be difficult. All best wishes to you Jon, Lexie and family, and to you Gerald, Rosy and family too. Betty xxx |

| Comments: | Hi Jonathan... I only ever saw you live once... I was 16 years old... "Watchfield Free Festival", Oxfordshire, in 1975... My recollection was that there were barely 20 or 30 people in front of the small stage you were on (though my memory is probably skewed with time)... I remember shouting for "Godas" (which of course you played...)... Have only recently re-discovered "Wait Till They Change The Backdrop" (and "Twice Around The Houses") after not having heard them for at least 30 years or so... Had forgotten how good a songwriter you were... Loved hearing "Down On Me" again (such a beautiful song) and "Godas", etc... Just wanted to say hello... and to pass on my thanks for some beautiful songs... Best wishes to you... |

| Comments: | I spent my teenage years listening and loving Johnathans music and lyrics. My great friend Dai Andrews introduced me to the music, I will always be grateful for that kindness. At 54 I can still sing many of the songs and still love listening to the albums - I wonder how many hundreds of times I've heard them?
My great sadness was that I had never seen the man live...and didn't think I ever would, but several years ago he started doing his tour for the fans and appeared in a festival in Porthcawl, South Wales. Mywife Ann who also adores Johnathans music and my old butty Dai Andrews and his wife Kath went to see him. It was night I will never forget .. Dai and I interrupted Johnathan as he was just finishing his fish and chips, we were welcomed and sat down for a chat - THIS IS LIKE AN ELVIS FAN MEETING ELVIS....! I was wowed by his courtesy and his humility, he said quite a few times that he was amazed that anyone remembered him... incredible for a fan to hear. His audience was very small, but were all dedicated to JK. His performance was a bit rusty - asked for help with some of the lyrics - NO ONE CARED A BIT, THE MAN WAS THERE - TALKING TO US ....and then it happened .... he wanted two menbers of the audience to come up and be the bandits in "Godas" after trampling 30 or 40 women and children I made it...I MADE IT....I WAS ON STAGE WITH JOHNATHEN KELLY...WHAT A MOMENT. JK was kind and generous and we had a ball - I've sung with my musical hero ... how many Elvis fans can say that WOW...! Just to cap the night off I had asked JK to dedicate "Rock you to sleep" to my wife - it's our song --- no , no it's ours - not yours....! He did it !!!! We chatted a little afterwards and finally left the man in peace - an unrepeatable night, which I guess JK won't even remember - BUT WE'LL NEVER FORGET. Johnathan, your music has been a part of our lives for a very long time, I am so gratful to have met you and watched your wonderful performance - if EVER I win the lottery I'll pay you a large sum of money to do another concert. Our VERY best wishes to you and yours your amazing. Andrew, Ann, Dai & Kath xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

| Comments: | I would like to echo Frank Weston's comments below. Our world is a poorer place in the absence of Jonathan's live appearances. He has touched many with his music and performances and it a great shame that he has arrived at his current position. Those of us fortunate enough to have seen some of his more recent gigs will also have been enchanted by his new material. All that we can hope is that this will, one day, become more widely available. In the meantime we still have the legacy of his earlier releases which sounds as fresh today as they did some 35 years ago.
I appreciate the purpose of this forum but would implore readers to check out a new artist that has come to my attention following an appearance on Janice Long's Radio 2 show earlier this week. Each time I listen to Jake Morley I am reminded of Jonathan. There is a sensitivity and soul to his music that is so often missing these days. Just have a listen to "Inside my Mind" - I promise you will not be disappointed. http://music.jakemorley.com/track/inside-my-mind Kind regards to all fellow JK fans - one man may not be right - but can all of us be wrong? I was born in 1974, and believe I have you to thank for my name! My parents first heard you sing around this time, and became fans. They loved 'Julia' and I remember hearing this (along with many other JK tracks)when I was small. I know my parents have seen you sing again in recent years, and have told you the story of how they named their first born after one of your songs! Sadly, I can no longer find this song to listen to...if you or anyone can suggest where I might be able to hear this song again, I would be very grateful. Had my parents opted for a night in all those years ago, I believe I would have been called 'Tamara' With warmest regards, Julia |

| Comments: | I often wonder as I read the messages that come in to this site if Jonathon is the only person who doesn't read it! I went to primary school with Jon in the fifties ( yes, it WAS a long time ago I admit!) and was honoured when I discovered recently that he had written a song about me some years ago called 'Hours'.
Sadly as he has chosen not to perform anymore....despite the many requests from people who would love to see him back on stage where he belongs.....'my' song and so many others may be consigned to oblivion. What a talent, what a shame that those of us who would like to see him perform live and perhaps didn't appreciate his talent for what it was at the time, may not have that privilege. At least we can listen to him still, courtesy of Amazon! Thank you Gerald for taking the time and trouble to put together the JK website and if you ever persuade him to take to the stage again, I want to be the first to know! |

In the middle of the set the strap on JK's guitar broke and the guitar smashed on the floor. He just said quietly "anyone got a spare guitar". It turned out he had borrowed it from a friend and did not know if it was insured. Jonathan - if you read this - was it covered ? |

Just found your site and thoroughly enjoying it. Your music made a deep impression on me all those years ago, and you've always been there in the recesses of my mind. Never forgotten, just tucked away in a corner. I saw you for the first time in Watford with The Kinks as support band around 1972. Ok, I went to see the Kinks, but I came away having seen and heard an amazing and incredible talent. I bought your album TATH the following day. Sadly that has vanished over time, but upon listening to radio caroline I heard a Kinks number and there you were, waiting in my mind to reappear. I went straight onto the internet and bought TATH and WTTBDF. Superb. Thankyou for your music, your thoughts, your prescence. If by any chance you feel like performing, please give me notice and I would gladly fly over from Ireland to join you. Thank you again for your music. My best wishes to you and yours. Steve. |

| Comments: | Hi Jon, Lexie, (and Gerald, Rosy and Frazzle)
On one of my regular visits to the site - hoping against hope that Jon might reconsider his position on live performances in some form or other - I realised I'd never posted a note here... So, this is to say a few "Thank You" messages. First, to Gerald for all his diligence and dogged hard work. Loyalty, persistence and your other fine qualities make knowing you a pleasure and a model for friendship. Importantly, to Jon, for the music, your friendship and the fun we had trolling around the folk clubs in the 70's. Well, thanks to my day job, you did most of the trolling! Then to God, for giving you a special blessing to touch people's lives and often change the way they think. See Deut. 8 : 18. He clearly gave the ability, Jon. Are you familiar with Graham Kendrick's work? And finally back to Gerald, for organising release of some 'live' recordings. Sure, the albums are great, but the sterility of the studio steals the immediacy, the adrenaline swap with an audience, the interpretation and the 'life' in many of the songs. If you don't yet own any of the early 'live' stuff, then be sure to order the bootleg! All in all, thanks for the memories, guys. Mainly because of its location, I was lucky to get many special visitors at my folk club from 1970-76 (The Shakespeare's Head, Carnaby Street, near Oxford Circus). We had Al stewart, Ralph McTell, Rod Stewart, Gerry Rafferty, Billy Connolly, Sandy Denny, Steve Goodman, Jasper Carrott and many others. Special nights indeed. But the most memorable, the nights we had to close the doors, the nights when if people passed out they were passed out over people's shoulders, the nights when even the landlord would allow lengthy over-runs, all belonged to Jonathan Kelly. Thank you, Jon! Dave Stringer |

I am now slowly introducing friends to the music of both Music that has lasted and is as fresh now as it was when first performed The legacy is in the enduring nature of the music, brightened up the 3 day week and its brightening up this period of gloom as well. It is time for action! If you like me adore the music of Jonathan Kelly and wait with anxious anticipation on a new release then it is about time all of us made it happen! Now if B.G.O. records can release four of his recordings then what's to say they will not release some more? What they need most of all I think is to hear from his fans, demanding more of his music! We have all seen him live of late and we all know just how good his new songs are so I urge you all to get writing to Beat Goes On records asking when his new songs are going to be released? The more of us that do it the greater the chance that the record company will sit up and listen. It stands to reason. They want sales and the more of us that show an interest the quicker they will react! If you really do love the music of J.K. you will respond to this and get the ball rolling. let's face it would you not be tempted to buy a new album with songs like this on it! * The Orange & The Green ( Eileen.) * Hummingbird * I've been Down That Road You're On * Mona & Me * Madeleine Re-visited * Peals Of Thunder * Young & Free * No words * A Friend Is A friend * Thank You And many, many, more. GET WRITING NOW! |

Firt picked up an album in about '76 and it was alway a mystery to me. Such great music. Always on my turntable and I never found any info at all about who Jonathan Kelly's Outside were. Now, thanks to your work, I have some idea. I long ago left England and live in the US. I hope I get the chance to see Jonathan live either here or in the UK. |

| Comments: | Just wanted to add that I throughly enjoyed Jonathan's performance at Middlewich. It was such a treat to hear him play the grand piano too, and I am sure his voice is no different now than thirty years ago. I feel very previledged too that Jonathan came back to the Middlewich festival.. the church was a very interesting location, and I was doubtful how it would work.... but I soon made the judgement that it was a superb venue, as like Frank ( my brother) has said he got everyone's full attention, and it added a whole new dimension. I love the fact that Jonathan will sing whatever anyone requests, and I love the way he always has a few new ones which he treats us with. I do hope there will be another concert in the pipeline somewhere soon? What a brilliant night. I have limited access to the internet unfortunately , so this is the reason my comments are late, but I am still buzzing from the great evening ... he leaves such a great impression after each concert a delightfully talented guy.

| Comments: | I have had the pleasure of seeing Jonathan perform at least four times in the last few years and yet every concert is a new experience. This gig was no exception and in a formal setting that because of the warmth of the man soon became very informal this was a hugely memorable nights entertainment. He seemed so at peace with the World and the acoustics and the intimacy of the surroundings made for a delightful musical cocktail.
It is a pity there were not so many people there but it some ways this is why it was so personal. In a church with no beer, people were fully focused and this aided Jon in his attempts to convey the quality of his writing and we all felt humbled and very honoured to have born witness to this exceptional event. Jonathan was at his most relaxed and free from the absence of a few drunken yobs perhaps a church is a fitting venue afterall? All I know is that I have never had so much fun in one for as long as I can remember! |

Well Jonathan played Middlewich and it was certainly a memorable night, a memorable day for me in fact, due to various problems. It was a special night in wonderful surroundings which we really enjoyed and it was great to see Frank & Rung Weston again and our old friends Steve & Kath Brown whoose children preformed a duet with Jonathan, I'll be updating the site soon with photos and news from the gig, but I wondered if anyone who was there would like to write a review for the site? If I write it I'll be accused of being biased. All the best Gerald & Rosy |

Does this stand the test of time or what? Like many others have I wondered what became of Jonathan and as you do these days looked on Google and quickly discovered this fantastic web site. Well done Gerald! I hope I can get to see Jonathan soon. Have you considered the Picturedrome in Holmfirth? Great venue.

Thanks for your efforts in creating this site. I looked on the net a few years ago and it was as if Jonathan hadn't existed. Just wanted to say a big thankyou to Jonathan for the pleasure his music has given me. I saw Jonathan supporting the Strawbs at the Wyvern Theatre Swindon & I was totally entranced by him - voice & guitar perfection & I immeadiately went out & bought TATH - which still gets a vinyl airing from time to time. I also play guitar & Cursed Anna has been a party piece of mine ever since (a pale imitation though). I look forward to the possibilty of seeing/ hearing Jonathan again & must buy a copy of the 70's bootleg. Thankyou & Best Wishes - Derek |

Thanks first of all for the wonderful website. I have searched for years for news of Jonathan. I remember watching OGWT and Jonathan was the first of my musical heroes that my father approved of. Saw Jonathan at Darlington Civic with two friends whom I'd converted. I've been through the mill a bit in recent years and found that friends, family and music can get you up the highest mountains. You are a good man Jonathan and you have the power to brighten the darkest days. Peace and Love. |

| Comments: | Hi
Just discovered your brilliant website - as you can gather I'm a long time fan of Jonathan Kelly. Must admit it happened by accident. As a poor student in Liverpool in the early 70s, me and some colleagues discovered that the beer at the 2 +1 Folk Club held at what was then the Centre Hotel sold exceedingly cheap beer! It was £1 to get in and the beer was about the same price. We saw Jonathan several times there - the biggest shock was when he did a Dylan and went electric for 'Outside' He also started doing Mercy Mercy Me, an old Marvin Gaye song. We also saw Harvey Andrews & Graham Cooper, The Oldham Tinkers, Decameron and....Jasper Carrott with his guitar at the same venue . We all said to each other we didn't like the music but imagine the smiles when we discovered that all 4 of us had all gone out to buy Twice Around the Houses - Still got my original vinyl! Sligo Fayre, Madeleine and Cursed Anna are still my favorites and my teenage daughter is also a huge fan, every time we have one of her friends in the car they have to hear Anna. We cant make the gig on 14th May as she will be in the midst of her GCSE's but if you are doing another gig in June we will travel up from North London to be there, so please keep the site up to date so that I can book tickets. Can someone please let me know if JK is playing in or around Doncaster in the near or distant future? Like so many on here I saw him 30 odd years ago in Hull, on 2 seperate occasions and still listen to him on my old vinyls. Embarrassingly, I'm liable to recite the 'poem' of Ballad of cursed Anna, Richard Burton style, when egged on and sozzled but cannot sing for toffee, unlike JK who is brilliant. |

Just a quick message to wish you all the best with the search for original video material, surely someone must have recorded and kept the OGWT session? (Although if the BBC didn't even keep it....well, who knows)! I bought 'Twice Around the Houses' the next day! I was stunned to see Jonathan played at Leicester College in November of '72, that was my first few months there and have absolutely no recollection of him being there. Is it definite that he actually played that gig? I didn't manage to get ant further with trying to fix up a gig in Dubai (remember)? I'm now back in Melbourne, but would love to time my visit to England next year when Jonathan is playing. The 'Rock' was also a pub I frequented for a while whilst I was going out with one of the students from the PE college and was teaching at Kimberworth. All the best, Ian Clarke |

The old songs sounded timeless, and the quality of his new writing beggars belief at the thirty year gap from the main stage. JK has to be one of the greatest singer-sonwriters of his genre, and such a nice guy, warm, funny, and with a healthy dose of zaniness! Hope it's not too long before JK's back on the stage, and there is definitely at least one more album in him yet. Thanks again to Gerald and Rosy for their dedication and hard work. |

| Comments: | Hello everyone,
It occurred to me that Jonathan sold hundreds of thousands of albums and yet I only have around 250 people on the mailing list so I am sure there must be many more fans out there who are not yet aware of the website or that Jonathan is performing again, so I have had an idea. I have designed a new A4 poster based upon the artwork for the new Bootleg Series CD release and thought I would make it available to anyone who wanted a copy and I wondered if you might be willing to help publicise the site? What I would like you to do is to request a copy from me then print it off on decent quality ink jet paper and request places such as their favourite pub etc put the poster up on the wall, of course it would also make an attractive item for you to frame up and put on your own wall, so if you would like to help or if you would just like a copy for yourself then I would be grateful if you could drop me a line and I will email the poster to you as a PDF file. This way the best quality reproduction possible will be maintained. I can also send it as a Jpeg file if you prefer but please be aware that it will be a large file so you will need a broadband connection. If you would like to help then please send me an email stating whether you wish the file as a PDF or Jpeg (PDF is the best quality) I would be grateful for all the help you can give me to help raise Jonathan's profile. All the best Love & Peace Gerald www.jonathankelly.co.uk |

I searched for what seemed like a life-time to re-discover the most gifted singer-songwriter in the history of popular music, only to find that he may not play again. Firstly I'm pleased that Jim has found the site and I hope he enjoys it. Secondly in reply to David Rankin, The JK archive is mainly safe as I had backed up most of it, though some items are lost. The hard drive is still broken, I am very grateful for all the offers of help I have had, but sadly without the cash to pay for it to be opened and repaired in a clean room it will have to remain on the shelf, I hope to get it repaired when I have sufficient funds. As for the New JK BOOTLEG releases, this has been held up because the PRS have dragged their feet, I will be phoning them on Tuesday to try to get clearance, hopefully it should be available for purchase within the next week. | Comments: | Hello,
Firstly I'm pleased that Jim has found the site and I hope he enjoys it. There are quite a few things happing and I hope to update everyone via the site shortly. On behalf of Jonathan and myself I wish to express our gratitude for your continued support. | Comments: | I first saw Jonathan at Hull City Hall supporting the Strawbs and then several times on Sunday nights at the (then) Hull Arts Centre. The concerts were full of warmth, intimacy and humour. It's great his albums have been re-released on CD as my old vinyl copies are completely worn-through! No matter where I have travelled in the world since I always seem to have come across someone who remembers Jonathan. Great website, I am kicking myself for not finding it sooner, not least as I would definitely have travelled from my home in France to the Doncaster gig had I known it was on! There was something very special and unique about a JK performance. Best wishes, it was always a pleasure I feel privileged to have shared. |

Can't believe i came across you after all these years..You look great, and have listened to "Eileen",and what memories that voice brought back..Remember being one of the first in the shop to buy "Without an E". Back to late 1960's Libery Hall, Dublin - what a Friday night you used to give us all. And we loved you so. And i remember there was Fitzwilliam Sq. flat and Belmont Avenue.. you did move around ha ha Delighted to have seen this site and very thankful for Gerald to have found you...Last time i saw you was with Adele King (Twink) - we were seeing you off at Dublin Airport on your big adventure to London... The one song i will always remember is "Julia" - absolutely beautiful.. I'm in shock here having googled your name, (and a grandad now)...well good for you. Would love to see a gig of yours if ever one comes up. Please someone let me know. From memories of Liberty Hall gigs...and love forever |

| Comments: | I saw Jonathan supporting the Strawbs at Newcastle City Hall back in 72/73. It was the time of the 3 day week and power cuts during the day. The concert was delayed because of a power cut and Jonathan and Dave Cousins played some songs accompanied by their guitars on the steps of the City Hall to entertain the waiting fans. Magical.
Just come across your site, well done for keeping Jonathan's name alive. |

| Comments: | Skimming through some of these earlier posts I have noticed that one of my favourite JK songs is not listed by anyone in their favourite lists. Its a track called What can I do now, from Two Days in Winter and its a wonderful heartbreaking song about the desolation experienced when a relationship breaks up. It really hits the spot and as usual with JK it is sung with such soul and angst. If you haven't heard it, this track alone is worth the price of the CD |

This is especially so in the case of Gerald, Rosy and Frazzle and of course the great man himself but my seasons greetings go out to anyone who has had the pleasure of seeing or hearing the most talented artist on this planet and shame on you if you are visiting this website for the first time! I really do think we should be actually paying for the privilege of coming here and I would be interested to know the opinions of others on this particular topic? |

| Comments: | Really chuffed to find this site. Like many others I first became entranced by JKs music after seeing him at Bickershaw and on TOGWT. I have still the Vinyl copies of TATH and WTTCTB and play them regularly. For the last 30 odd years songs like Sligo Fair,Madeline have continued to play in my head Thanks for that.
As a strummer (of limited ability)I have often searched the Guitar Tab sites for any Chord/Tab of these classics but to no avail. Can anyone advise if there is some out there. Whatever the answer to this - thanks JK for the Music. |

Anyway, words cannot truly express my gratitude for everything that JK and Gerald have done over the last two years to make my life a contented one. My one last burning desire is to see JK get the world-wide regonition his music so richly deserves. |

Thankyou for a wonderful evening in Biddulph, your last was definately your best and you seemed to thoroughly enjoy it, as did your audience. Thankyou for your dedication to Mike and I, the song was beautiful, as usual it was a pleasure for Mike to play with you and for me to see that. That concert will remain special to me for many different reasons..... Since coming to see you it has been a pleasure to meet you and others along the way. Take care, good luck, good health Love and hugs Carole x |

| Comments: | I concur what a super night at Biddulph.
It even persuaded me to e mail the only show I know which caters for those of us with such an eclectic taste and with some reward. Radio Scotlands Iain Anderson played a JK track on his show on Tuesday 14/11 and it is available on the Listen again feature for the next week yes please it would be nice to persuade Mr Kelly to not hang up his boots there are a lot of people who would love to hear a concert from him (old! and young.) |

| Comments: | Well it's been a long time from the Birmingham Rep in 1974 to the Biddulph Arms 2006 but it was just so wonderful to Hear JK again. As others have indicated it was a fabulous concert, his voice as good as ever and those songs just blew me away all over again. A plea to Gerald to maintain the website and perhaps in the not to distant future try and coax another concert out of Jonathon and use the website to let us all know about it. If there is a next time a bigger venue would be a good idea, at Biddulph with virtually no promotion except this website there must have been 150 fans packed into a room designed for far less people. Sign perhaps the word is getting round and his audiences are growing! |

| Comments: | Very, very, disappointed to have missed last nights gig. Words cannot truly express just how sad i am about this - especially as my brother-in-law broke his leg which meant that my sister Joan and a good friend who has never seen him live also missed out on it too.
The only real consolation is to know that Jon performed wonderfully well by all accounts and that the efforts that Gerald Stables has made to persuade him back to where he belongs and that is on stage has not been entirely in vain. I only hope JK has a change of heart otherwise I will be suicidal for the rest of my life I think. |

| Comments: | An honour to have been at Biddulph last night. I brought some friends who's only experience of JK's music was listening to me and Mike Hope do 'our' version of Down on Me at a rock night recently...they liked the song so much they wanted to see THE MAN do it properly !!.. they were blown away by JK..his style, the man and the music.
They were saddened that after 'finding' him that they could have actually witnessed his last performance ?!! This could be the case, and for all the reasons previously mentioned by Gerald we have to respect the decision. Once again , last night my friend's and I were just so happy to be there..to be part of the night and the occasion. Jonathan.. THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC !! Lots of love. Dave, Mick,( Kathryn, Curly and Geordie.. three new fans!) . |

| Comments: | An amazing gig at Biddulph. Jonathan was straight into it from the first number and sent us home after several encores, well after midnight.
If, as Gerald says, this is his last live performance for a while - what a way to sign off. Jonathan, you have a very special gift. Thanks, too for taking time to talk to us in the bar beforehand - actually remembering we were at the Rockingham gig. Be happy. |

| Comments: | Hello Everyone,
Well what a night it was last night, we were so pleased to see a packed house with not even standing room left, a big thank you to Eric who organised the concert and to John the sound engineer for providing some of the best sound I have heard at a gig, I should also like to thank, Mike Miller, Mike Hope and Mick for providing some great backing for Jonathan. It was so nice to meet up again with so many friends and admirers of Jonathan It would be unfair of me to name any particular persons but you know who you are. It was a mixed occasion for me, 18 months on from the charity concert I was at what was to be Jonathan's final concert and if it does in fact turn out to be his last time on stage then what a send off he was given and he would like me to thank you all for your support. Jonathan's decision to retire from performing is not just because he feels he wishes to concentrate on other things in his life, but also because he feels he no longer has the energy for performing, it is no secret to his friends that he has been unwell for some time and I know you all share with me when I say that we all hope and pray that his health is rapidly restored and if it does I feel sure we shall be able to temp him into the occasional gig. Once again thank you for all your support over the past 18 months not only of Jonathan but also of myself and Rosy, we feel Jonathan still has a great deal to contribute to the world of music and you know we'll do our best to help that come about. Keep in touch! Love & Peace to one and all. Gerald |
