He currently resides there. He fathered 4 sons and 1 daughter. I married son #3, James Richard Fernald. He fathered my 1 son and 1 daughter, Evan Keith Fernald and Lisa Marie Fernald Dabney.
It's most interesting to me that information on this site states the Fernalds hailed from Kittery, Maine. That is where I was born. But I had to come all the way to California to meet a Fernald. |

John and Alice {FERNALD} Ellis had 5 children. He was quite involved in tracking our lineage due to my great aunt giving him a considerable amount of stocks and bonds to a variety of companies. He hired a lawyer to try and find value of them but all I remember is he said he couldn't prove lineage to someone. Dr. Charles Augustus Fernald wrote a book, UNIVERSAL INTERNATIONAL GENEALOGY AND OF THE ANCIENT FERNALD FAMILIES,copyright 1910. My local library has this book. I have used this book for certain information in combination with other books. One of which is the, ANDERSON'S ROYAL GENEALOGY, copyright 1732. Much of Dr. Fernald's information is backed up by this book. I have not used any of the Fernald family information, so I am not sure on accurate Dr. Fernald is in that area. One email goes into a name, Franciscus Junius and Francis Fernald. Franciscus and Francis are the same name in different languages, one appears to be Latin/Italian and the other English. In my 30 years of research, I decided to look at some of Dr. Fernald's sources, so far they check out. Dr. Fernald lists his sources in front of the book. All genealogists know that you can not rely on one source but one must get more sources for each piece of information. As for the Fernald family information, only the person researching the surname can make judgement of Dr. Fernald's book. I am looking at one point of information in the book that has me wondering he made an error in looking at the record he used. My advice, look at the book, check the source, make your judgement. I was born 1947 in Bryn Mawr, PA and am married to Rev. Joseph Tracey Rivers III of West Chester, PA. My mother was Frances Fernald DRAPER (wife of William Adam Draper of Philadelphia) b. 1912 in Chicago, d. 1996 in Bryn Mawr, PA), daughter of Luther Dana Fernald and Harriet Furniss Fernald. L. Dana was son of James Champlain Fernald. My brother, William Adam Draper, Jr. (b. 1943 in Bryn Mawr, PA) resides in Wichita, Kansas. He is married to Brenda Quintanilla y Ramirez (Costa Rica) and has one son: William Francisco Draper (b. Wichita, 2000.) My mother's brother was Dana Fernald (b. 1925 in Upper Montclair, NJ, d. 199? ), and sister Harriet Fernald Tuck (1914-1997. ) Uncle Dana lived most of his life in the Philadelphia area, and Aunt Harriet in Upper Montclair, NJ and Larchmont, NY. Uncle Dana (m. Elizabeth Calder) had three children: Elizabeth (Lisa) Fernald Williams, now of Yarmouth, ME (b. 1946), Lynn Dana Fernald (b. 1948, now deceased), and Robert Fernald (b. 1951, now desceased.) Harriet Tuck (m. Theodrore Erskin Tuck) had four sons, all still living: Theodore E. Tuck, Jr. of Bowie, MD ; Henry Dana Tuck of Dover, DE; John Fernald Tuck (now residing also in Dover, DE), and Alan Wingate Tuck. Part of the family descent from Kittery Fernalds was already outlined late last year on this list by Olaf Hoff Fernald, my mother's cousin. His father Charles Fernald and my grandfather Luther Dana Fernald were brothers. If more info. on this branch of the family would be helpful, please contact me. I have a fair amount of Fernald geneology. I would appreciate it very much if anyone has any information on our Fernald ancestors who may have served in the Civil War as I'm trying to put that part of the story together.
